I saw the drama with Kingo and the Root de la vega thread is closed.. does this mean we should hold off on rooting for the time being?
I think many still have de la vega and many still have Kingo. Read through some of the post and decide. I had Kingo root and my phone worked perfect. Custom lock was gone after installing wanum knox was still 0 as was warranty. I think it just comes down to a choice. I chose to unroot until this issue is worked out. I still have both files on my computer just waiting s few days to see what comes of this topic

I just flashed root de la Vega again and it was fine. I'm even on MI1 firmware. No issues whatsoever. Knox still at 0x0

Been using De La Vega since DG released MI9 root. No problems ever since and still happy. I probably will go back to stock when there is a new important OTA but till then, I'll be enjoying my root

This is a root I recently came across online by a dev. I'm new to android so wanted to make sure this is safe to perform on my AT&T Note 3? Any suggestions. Go to this link to see the root provided: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2474422
check this thread your question has been answered there, i linked to the particular post
Designgears is a great dev. If he says it's safe then it's safe.

As long as you understand what you are doing at each step of instructions, it's safe. DG never goes wrong.

Agreed. I don't understand what to do hence why I have not rooted yet. Once I read and re-read all these subjects then I may give it a shot.
Does anyone know if this root method will prevent future OTA updates? I had my Note 2 rooted and had to go through hell and high water to search and install rooted/deodexed updates each time they were pushed out, as a result of rooting the device.

Rooting won't stop the updates but it will allow you to install titanium backup and freeze the services that the updates rely on.
You just have to remove the ota app. It's only an app on pretty much all android phones that actually controls ota updates.

Thanks for the responses. To clarify... I *want* OTA updates. I don't mind the stock ROMs (as long as I have root to freeze bloatware) pushed from AT&T. Note 2 rooted changed the device to "modified" and when OTA updates were available, they could not be downloaded or installed. Hence, I had to search for stock ROMs that had been rooted and deodexed.

actually.... Root de la Vega should stop ota updates already because it has a build number that samsung should never release a ota for.
anyone try to use de la vega (current MI9) with the new att update?
Super SU survival mode will keep root according to all the other post like this.

people who lost root though... once you go to mj5, u cant reflash MI9, tht the problem, i was stupid to lash mi9 then do a update right off the bat so its my fault. guess i will have to wait for sammobile to have the firmware so i use the universal de la vega.same problem cant run the root scrip bv i dont wanna risk boot looping and without the ability to go back to mi9 tonight unitl firmware mj5 comes back
Update:
Kingo root does work with the new update. KNOX is NOT triggered.
Where do you find this at. I only see De LA Vega

They have a website
http://www.kingoapp.com
Just follow the instructions they have on the installer and you should be fine. I was rooted with RDLV and the OTA update broke my root (forgot to check survival mode in SuperSU), and now back to root using Kingo

Yes you just have to find a link that had the files. How I did mine. But hearing v2 of the kingo?? Works well and doesn't have those issues like v1

Yeah you can use de la vega, that's what I just did a few days ago right after getting my note 3. I'm still on mi9 right now. Must remember to use app like titanium to freeze ATT software update ASAP, just in case an auto update ruins everything.

I work with a guy that bought the note 3 over Thanksgiving and wants me yo help root his phone. I used Root de la Vega when I had mine(i had to get rid of it). Why is his thread locked?

Too late. Stupid update installed when I wasn't looking. I guess I can try Kingo.
Long time lurker, first time poster...
So I'm a new N3 owner and currently at N900AUCUBNB4 on the handset, and I'm trying to root my phone.
From what I'm reading, Kingo is broken unless you've previously rooted, which I have not. Does anyone have any working alternatives that don't trigger knox until an updated Kingo build releases? My ultimate goal is to root and then flash a kitkat rom to the handset.
Whatever you read is wrong...
Look in the general section.

Kingo worked on my NB4. I used version 1.1.8. I had to reflash my note 3 since I used the AT&T bloat remover and followed the link below. Kingo rooted my note 3 faster then the first time I did it. I think a virgin pit and image made a huge difference.

I can confirm that what he said is correct. I just rooted using 1.1.5 this morning, and it took the first time.

So here's what I ultimately did, which worked flawlessly:
1) Went through the MJ5 restore (and root step) detailed here.
2) Updated to OTA NB4.
3) Downloaded Kingo 1.1.8 from here, installed, and rooted NB4 successfully.
4) Confirmed rooted on NB4 and no knox trip!
Thanks for the input, everyone. :good:
Glad you were able re root.

Nb4 root
I can also confirm a first time root immediately after the nb4 OTA update. Brand new handset. Kingo 1.2 failed but 1.15 worked first time. FWIW I had to use the USB 3 cable.
1.1.8 did not work
NB4 and 1.1.8 did not work for me. Tried twice with it failing both times. USB debugging and Unknown sources both enabled. Can't seem to find 1.1.5 does anyone have the link?
Also what's all this about Kingo being a sketchy root application?

Kingo is not a sketchy root application.
I have seen people say that the newest version of Kingo will be able to root NB4
I need to return my phone to out of the box fresh. I've been reading and searching and I'm finding info about Odin and MJ5, but I'm not sure which I need to do. The only thing I've done to my phone is root it (then unroot it) with Kingo. I unrooted it, so I could apply the stock 4.4.2 upgrade, but it fails. So now I want to return it to its original state so I can try the upgrade again. I want to keep it close to stock, because I need to use phone encryption so I can use it for work as well. I really need someone to point me in the right direction.

Thanks!! It's really involved, but I completed and it and now my phone is running 4.4. If anyone else tries it, makes sure you follow every step.
This my sound like a dumb question, but I am going to as any way. I bought a used note 3 and the previous owner had rooted it and installed saftystrap and installed a rom to the stock slot but made no back up. I searched but could not find stock 4.2.2 firmware. Any one know where I could find it. My phone is working great but would still like the option of having the stock files just incase. thanks in advance for the help.
