On stock. - Sprint HTC One (M7)

I am on stock now. The stock firmware which came.with the phone.4.2 I guess..I have unlocked the gsm services.and s off..I have twrp recovery. How do I ota.upgrade to.the latest and also will I lose the gsm unlock?

I can't comment on loosing your sim unlock. I find it interesting that you have 4.2, considering HTC bumped the Sprint version of the device straight from 4.1 to 4.3, calling 4.2 a "minor update".
Anyways, my previous experience with HTC says do not update OTA, otherwise you can loose S-Off and root, and make it much more difficult to root (having vietnam flashbacks of the horrors of the EVO 2.3 gingerbread update, took them months to crack)
Flash the newest version of the stock ROM via recovery manually. There should be a wiki page here on XDA that has all the stock roms, as I'm betting a dev has posted them with the only mods being root access added.

Yeah exactly what that guy said. Specifcally look for the 4.3 update that is decrypted. It has no hboot radios or recovery so it wont overwrite anything that isnt necessary.

[Q] Firmware on carrier models??

So, with 4.2.2 rolling out , I have a question regarding firmware/radios.
I have a T-Mobile One with the bootloader unlocked from HTC Dev and a custom recovery. I still haven't gone S-Off, but I did flash the 4.2.2 leak from a couple weeks ago. My question is, since there seems to be a firmware update - should I install it on my T-Mobile HTC one, and if so, how would I go about doing that (I assume I'd have to S-off/SuperCID since the Tmobo version of 4.2.2 is still a long way off).
Thanks in advance for any answers - I'm mostly concerned since while the S-OFF process looks fairly painless, I'm always a lot more cautious with radios and such than I am with ROMS since the radios have the potential to brick your phone in nasty ways...
Should you update? Why yes. How? Flashing a stock version through recovery. You won't have wifi calling if you rely on it. I'm on 4.2.2, however I am s off. I've yet to understand how people brick their phones by flashing the wrong files. I go to a tread with the file name. The download file gas the name, and before flashing, you have to read the file name. I still font get it. But anyways, happy updating. Enjoy the phone

There's a good guide here for flashing firmware etc. It also has a link to the firmware package from the 2.24.401.1 base.
Hi,
I have follow up question to this.....Since there is no RUU for T-Mobile USA, how would we revert our firmware back to stock T-mobile firmware? Currently all we have for T-mobile are some stock nandroid backups, but I don't believe firmware packages are contained in those.

First time custom ROM install. How stable is it?

Hi,
I am running JB4.4.2.2 on international HTC One and want to first time install custom ROM. How stable is it? From reading even latest replies people still experiencing some minor problems though.
My main issue with JB at the moment is battery life and I also am a fan of customization.
I already have videos on how to root device http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PoTdssGCJs and
how to Install ROM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PoTdssGCJs
Sometime in the future I will sell my device so I wonder if there is easy way to get back to stock?
Thanks !

No problems with ant custom ROM, issues typically from HTC bugs on leaked builds.
Use a RUU to go back to stock easy.

Custom ROMs are incredibly stable for the most part. I have run Android Revolution HD (and later ARHD Google Play Edition) pretty much since I bought my One (less than a week after launch) and I could count on one hand the number of times I've had my phone crash.
The more mods you flash with the rom, the higher the chance of bugs. Stock like roms are extremely stable. You may see a few bugs, since most roms just upgraded to a new base (HTC released official 4.3 update).
If there is a RUU (HTC's official tool for returning to stock) newer than your current firmware, that matches your cid and mid (carrier ID and model ID) then returning to stock is very simple. If not you need to restore a nandroid backup (made from clockworkmod or TWRP as soon as you flash them) then flash a stock recovery. Be aware that since you're on 4.2.2 and hboot 1.54 there is no S-off (Security off) exploit for your phone, which means the device will display a "***TAMPERED***" flag inside the bootloader. You will also get a red text warning at boot up; "This build is for development purposes only, distribution outside of HTC is not legal yada yada yada". It doesn't really mean anything other than it may turn away potential buyers, and it will most likely void your warranty.
Remember: backup, backup, backup.
And as always, with flashing any custom software, there are inherent risks, however minimal, and flashing is always your choice, so the devs, and the community, take no responsibility for your device or anything that may happen to it.
But enough scaring you
The One is extremely easy to root and flash on compared to other devices, and with S-on (security on) it's pretty hard to mess it up in any permanent way.

Hi Cory,
I am still with 4.2.2 so I would use ROM for this version of JB.
Why does it matter what version is RUU? I would've though if I make it to the original state of my phone then I am able just use official OTA update.
I found some RUU here but I am not sure if this is newer.

4.3 is official now, why would you not use that?
And an RUU flashes your phone completely back to stock, but if there is no RUU for your CID you can't flash it.

Back to the RUU. I am aware there is no RUU i need from 3 UK. So I wonder if I keep my JB at 4.2.2 do unlock back my phone root and install ROM. (but still keep 4.2.2) Than later when 3 UK release RUU I can go back to stock?
Thanks

Well hypothetically, you're free to upgrade your rom to 4.3 because custom roms don't include bootloaders or firmware. Then if 3 UK ever releases an RUU (which is an if, not a when, some carriers don't), you could just flash 4.2.2 then RUU. (You might not even need to flash the rom, I'm not sure if an RUU checks rom version.) But if you ever update firmware, the RUU would need to contain a newer version than what you're currently running. Unless you obtain s-off sometime in the future.

[Q] Simplest way to update to 4.4.2

I looked around question wise, didn't see much.
Anyways, I have a Sprint HTC One - last Summer while on 4.1.2 stock, I unlocked, installed a custom recovery, and rooted it.
I have not really bothered updating, but I decided to take the jump to 4.4. What is the easiest way of doing this?
Can I just download the 4.4.2 Zip to my internal memory, and flash from recovery?
Info:
Sprint HTC One
Android 4.1.2
S-On with the Disable System Write Protection installed.
TWRP 2.5.0.0
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2635051
That should be what you need. So far I don't know if you can flash kit kat firmware but prior firmwares you can.

Make sure your custom recovery is up to date before doing any rom flashing. There were some people that had problems when they tried to flash the 4.3 update on an older version of both CWM and TWRP. They had a problem where the custom recovery touch versions stopped responding to touch.
I just flashed the Bad Boys KK rom without installing a new firmware and everything has been great. But you might want to install at least the maintenance firmware update that came out a couple weeks ago as it fixed some PRL update issues. To flash the firmware you need to do that from a PC connected via usb to the HTC.
Good luck

[Q] 1.54.651.8 Root

Glad to help. Keep in mind that the root method generally doesn't change, but the S-off method may. So far, looks like Firewater works for the original software version that came on the phone, as well as the OTA.

Why would they take it out of the box, much less run an update on it?
We'd be fighting.
Can I ask you fellas a question. I'm still running stock but I'm rooted and s-off. I keep getting the system update and I want to accept the update because it adds the extreme power saver to my Sprint M8. If I do exactly how do reroot. I know I'll stay S-off. Thanks in advance.

I think Captain Throwback has a stock rooted ROM based off the latest OTA. I would flash that, instead. Too much trouble if you choose the other route.

Flash the rom along with the firmware.
But if you wanted to flash the update from sprint it's not that hard. You would need Sprints stock recovery flashed on your device (it's in one of Captains threads) and your software would need to have all of the files the OTA wants to update since it fails if it doesn't find all the files it is changing. Other than that take the update, let it finish and boot up, and then flash twrp (or cwm), flash SU, and you're back to rooted.

Shouldn't matter if you took the update
HTC Dev will unlock your bootloader unless Sprint blocked it like what happened to Verizon...they blocked folks from using HTC Dev.

HTC One M8 Android 4.4.4 rooted update to android 5.0

I have a normal edition Sprint HTC One M8 that is rooted with android version 4.4.4. I am still on the stock ROM. Whenever I got the phone, about 2-3 weeks ago, I wasn't aware that 5.0 was being released to the M8. So I updated to 4.4.4 through the OTA update and rooted. After rooting the system update popped up prompting me to update to version 5.0.
Now my question, is there an official rooted stock 5.0 ROM yet? I can't find it anywhere.
If there isn't, how do I go about updating to 5.0 from rooted 4.4.4?
Thanks,
Shawn
More info: this isn't the first time I've rooted phones. I've had an HTC EVO 4G and a Samsung Galaxy S3. This is just the first time I've had stuff not go as planned.
I tried to get S-OFF, however since "firewater" no longer works, and the only other way is SunShine, I can live with S-ON.

In order to take the OTA you need a stock rom (no modifications to system) and stock recovery.
Or option 2 is you can run the latest RUU

You flash stock recovery the same way you flash twrp, root should be ok I've never done an OTA I've always been s-off.
The rom you are on should also be ok unless you removed a bunch of bloat.
The RUU will wipe your device...back up anything important to your PC.
Side note: Every time there is an update and you like custom roms most require the firmware to be updated in order for them to work properly.
Updating firmware with s-off only takes a couple minutes and a lot less hassle then if you are s-on... so I would recommend biting the bullet and using Sunshine if at all possible.

I plan on staying with the stock ROM, just rooted so I'm gonna skip S-OFF. Never had an issue with it being on on my EVO (I flashed dozens of ROMs and stuff on it).
I'm ok with RUU wiping everything. I purposely haven't put much personal data on the phone cause I knew I'd be wiping within the next few weeks.
I'm gonna go the RUU method as everything will be fresh and unmodified.
Thanks for your help!
