Bt of a conundrum?? - Moto X Q&A

So weeks back I entered a contest at my local PC Richards to win a 32Gb White Nexus 5 this before I ordered it etc. Now lo and behold I won the contest! so my conundrum is this. I returned my Nexus 5 because I only liked it and not loved it like my Moto X but now that the Nexus 5 is free and I can still return my Moto X for a full refund I'm thinking maybe i should bite the proverbial bullet and keep the 5 and save almost 700 dollars. what do you guys think?

$700 is a lot of money and it would be kinda scummy to sell the nexus that you won and got for free. If I was in you position I would probably give it to my wife so I can the perks both have to offer without feeling too bad about it.

Yea the wife doesn't want to let go of her iPhone tried that lol. It looks like I might have to eat it and return my moto X
MOTO X GSM DEV

I mean if it wasnt for the almost 700 swing I wouldn't even consider it.
MOTO X GSM DEV

If I were you, if return the Dev and then trade the n5 for a Moto... It's not like you are selling it for profit, you are just getting an n5 in the hands of someone who really wants one and you are getting what you really want... Everyone wins!
Sent from my XT1058 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

Well I sent the moto X back and have the N5 this unit is built really well surprisingly. No rattle or screen bleed. The speaker isn't as good as the moto but it is better than my previous N5

Yikes... you caused a lot of ruckus over on the N5 forum. I suggest you gracefully try to enter that arena again.
As for the decision... meh, $700 is a lot of cash to save.

There OK I have posted a few threads already and no gripes

I wasn't giving you a hard time... Just a friendly suggestion. Congrats on the N5 BTW. Wish I never switched to Verizon... Only way work would pay for my bill though.

That sucks almost forced into it

Wow ... what a strange turn of events. Obviously the Nexus 5 is a very good phone, and Google is to be congratulated for stepping up to the plate. With that said, and from all your posts ... it appears that the Moto X is your first love. My advice, sell the N5 and on Monday, head over to the Moto Maker. Long after you have forgotten about the additional couple of hundred dollars ... you will still be using the phone. Get the X, count your lucky stars, and enjoy!

Back to the good old 3210

Just sold my Galaxy Nexus for a very reasonable price
Nokia 3210 is out of the drawer until my N4 comes.
Would you mind sharing what a "reasonable price" is? What was its condition?
I could have sold mine for $410 if Google pushed back their damn announcement! ='(
the night before someone wanted to buy it with 3 housing, 2 SGP cases, extended battery, limited edition back. Ended up selling it for freaking $260! what a loss. =(

Sold it to a family member for £200. New nexus will only cost me £80 so i didnt think that was too bad.
Might just stick to my 3210 lol this phone is immense.
Nothing better than a bit of snake to kill the time
i guess i was lucky a bit. using LG lollipop flip phone until n4 arrive too.
I'm getting $330 for my nexus but I'm not sure whether I wanna sell it or not :\

Yep. Just saw this. 199 and 249 for 8 and 16 GB. Brilliant price for the phone!

I don't think LTE works on AT&T right? Only t-mobile. If it does damn I have to figure that out since I have an LTE sim card already inside it.

Getting ready for the next nexus phone!!!
I'm one device away from making my Nexus complete. Hope I can do it this time.
Hoping it is for the new Nexus. Kinda killed my resale value though.
Omg i can't believe it. One of the most competitive smartphones on the market for $200...

I'm really tempted by this deal. I mean, it's the same price I got the original 32GB Nexus 7 for, and the phone is great overall. But, I kind of want to wait for the Nexus 5 just because it may offer better specs. It's just so hard to pass this deal up because it's being sold at such an amazing price.
Am I the only one in this predicament?

Are you happy with your current phone? If so, wait for the Nexus 4 (2013).
(Side note: Why does everyone insist on calling the next Nexus phone the Nexus 5? The number refers to the screen size, not the iteration; observe "Nexus 7 (2013)" instead of "Nexus 8", and with Google having stuck to the same phone screen size for 2 generations straight and then reaffirmed their affinity for this screen size with the Moto X, I'm pretty sure that the next Nexus won't be 5", and it won't be called the Nexus 5.)
Even if you decide at that point that you'd still want a N4 instead of a N4-2013, the market at that point will be flooded by people selling their N4s as they upgrade to N4-2013s.

Looking at you Moto X.
I'm actually really sad about this. I was in the works for trading my phone for a note 2 to try the screen size. The other party just gave me the finger I hope this means a new nexus will debut soon I've had this phone the longest of all my phones 9 month and now I'm starting to get that new smartphone itch.

HTC One or Nexus 5?

So, I have a best buy junk out coming up for my One. This should be happening in the next week or so.
I was told I can get any phone in store that is of equal or lesser value, then get the difference in store credit if lower. So, do I get the Nexus 5 32 gig and take the $250.00ish store credit?? I'm kind of leaning that way, but I have been an HTC fanboi for so damn long that I'm a-scurred! lol
Any thoughts would be appreciated!!
Peace.

Well that would suck... I'll check bb tomorrow and see what they got. 16 gig would be kind of a deal breaker... my 32 gigs gets all full of por... derp... family videos already.
I would just like the fact that I can let my contract go with them and try a different carrier if they piss me off! There is some freedom in knowing you have em' by the balls. lol

what makes you think the camera quality will be worse. Aside from low-light, i don't think the one camera is all that good. Software is pretty good though.

Sprint said it will sell a tri-band 4G LTE version of the freshly announced Nexus 5 starting on November 8 for $149.99 with a new two-year contract. Customers interested in the brand new smartphone can pre-order the device today. Meanwhile, T-Mobile will also sell the device (we’re still waiting on pricing information) and Best Buy, Amazon and RadioShack will all sell it unlocked starting at $349.99 for the 16GB model or $399.99 for the 32GB version.

I'm just hoping I can get one off contract, then let mine expire in May. I will miss all the Devs that do great work on our HTC phone. (and you too.) LOL
Don't need to buy on contract
Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk
From what I read earlier, Sprint will be offering the Nexus 5 for $199 w/ $50 MIR with contract or you can buy it form them for MORE than what you'd pay if you bought directly from Google... Somewhere around $550. If you're taking the contract route it's cheaper, but you get screwed if you buy it from them. I just purchased my Nexus 5 32GB for $438 and may, or may not, be switching to T-Mobile cause I guess I roamed too much?
I'll stay with the ONE and wait for the M8.

My One is available for upgrade today lol
I use my one for everything and it has yet to let me down. Sometimes pictures could be better but the way I look at it, it's a smart phone, not a digital camera. If I want high quality digital photos then I should probably use one of those. What does impress me about the camera though is how good the low light photos turn out. Unmatched. The other thing I feel can't be beat is the front speaker sound quality. Front speakers do make a huge difference! Beats with viper4android makes this phone sound awesome! I've yet to hear a handheld device sound better. Until another phone manufacturer comes out with front facing stereo speakers that sound at least as good as these I'll be sticking with the one series.

Not sure how reliable this is, but in an online chat with Staples yesterday, I was told they would be selling it also. No word on pricing, but I will probably get one when they get in stock (company account at Staples = easier to justify and write off). For the time being, I plan on getting a TMOB prepaid SIM and using it as a second phone line. If I like it enough, it may replace my One.
sorry, double-post

Moto X 2014 Price Cit Or Discontinue

Being that the new moto x style and the other varients (moto play and moto G and E) are going to be releasing in september do you think the moto x will go down in price or do you think it will get discontinued... Im so close to buying the moto x 2014 64gb ( obviously wasnt happy with the style's size..) so i was wondering if i should buy it now or wait till style is officially on their website... Idk anyone got any history with motorola phones and how they handle phones..like nexus 5 was discontinued after nexus 6 was released.. So thats why im wondering
Thanks in advance!!
Sent from my LG-H811 using Tapatalk
I'm not sure what they "usually" do, but I waited to get a Moto X 2013 until after the 2014 was announced, and they no longer sold them.
Turns out, I'm glad I got the 2014 X, but I would have gotten the 2013 if it had been available to me.
Given that most of these are custom assembled via Moto Maker, I would guess that once the 15 goes up for sale the 14 will stop being available. Whatever stock the hand on hand might end up on discount sites in a few months.
Thanks... Im not sure what to do.... Do i risk and wait...?

What back do you have with the G4? I was thinking of getting leather with the Moto X Style but the slipperly factor is making me edge towards the Silicon back which is meant to be really grippy.
Never felt or held a leather phone so I have no idea how they feel.
I have the ceramic back (non-leather) but with a case i mean slip as in its too heavy for my hand... And wide... Id be more inclined and happy towards my g4 if it had cyanogenmod or aosp...

With the Moto X 2013 what they did last year in the US was slap black or white backs on them and sold them to resellers who then sold them on Amazon and Ebay. Now last year was different in that they closed the Texas assembly plant. This year they are assembled in China so we will see what happens.

Nexus 6 - still worth it?

Android - I'm coming home! Now to find a phone.
Been looking at the Nexus 6 pretty hard. I don't want LG, and I refuse to pay premium prices for a Haiwei crash-o-matic piece of junk.
Spent some time at Best Buy today fondling a Nexus 6 - love the screen, love the feel, love the speed.
So, nearly a year after it's release, is it still worth it? Thinking about doing another 2 year with AT&T, which would make it $149, or $349 outright through Best Buy.
THoughts?
Plain and simple: Yes

Its as cool to have as an Indialantic beach!
People are still happy with their Nexus 4's for that matter, so I'd say yes, it's still worth it for the next 2 years. Although personally I despise 2 year contracts.
Most definitely. I have a Galaxy S6 and this thing blows it out of the water, except the camera. Way faster, much more support, better battery life.. Although I figured I'd get more than what I do. I'm keeping my eye out on the upcoming Nexus(es) but I have a feeling I'll stick with this and the S6 for awhile.
BTW I just purchased this about a month ago from Swappa. Couldn't stand being locked down with the S6 anymore.

Get the unlocked version! That way you have options. IMO, over the next 2-5 years, we are going to see major changes in the way cellular, and probably all technology, services are handled. It would suck to be locked in for the next 2 years.
Im on Straight Talk for $50 a month and using AT&T towers in my area w/ 4g LTE. Unlimited everthing Full speed up to 5g and throttled after that. Unless you are grandfathered in on some amazing deal, being locked in always favors the carrier.
BTW, Best Buy has 6 month interest free financing.

I want the unlocked one, but funding is tight... plus so is the wife's purse LOL
She controls the money in the house so I play by her rules - happy wife, happy life!
Regarding the financing, I tried already - because I had a bankruptcy in the past 3 years Best Buy won't give me any credit (even though every other bank in the free world seems to be throwing it at me!)
My wife about cut me when I ordered our Nexus 6's because of the price haha! But now that she has one I doubt she'll let me get her out of the Nexus lineup from here on out. The Nexus community doesn't seem to die out like our devices often do. The hardware really isn't that dated. I admit the camera is a bit lacking on this device. Finding a case can be a challenge if you're a destroyer of phones like myself. But the speed, screen and speakers on this phone are amazing!
Case wise I had to get a unicorn beetle. It has saved my phone twice now.
I contacted AT&T via Facebook - all they could tell me is that it wasn't available right now - which doesn't necessarily mean that they will not have it again, just that it's not available NOW. Go figure...

New Nexus is coming out later on this month or next month. It's made by Huawei. Guess AT&T have just unloaded all their old stock. Amazon and ebay sellers are doing the same.
