Dear Experts
My SGS3 (GT-I9305) was working flawlessly, only it wasn't rooted
Android version 4.1.2
I rooted it using : farmroot as below :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2130276
After rooting I uninstalled some applications from the phone that are safe to be removed based on the link below :
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/lv?key=0AqTvctlW89DtdC1qVUlLeVFTV3ZOdUtDclpBdVRQOUE&pli=1
I ended up with two error messages initially :
Unfortunately touch wiz home has stopped
Click to collapse
Secondly with
Unfortunately, messaging has stopped
Click to collapse
My troubleshooting
1- Clear data for touch wiz no joy
2- Clear data for messaging no joy
3- I did backup using Titanium then I did a factory reset twice (via tow different ways)but still problem not fixed
Although I didn't restore anything yet via Titanium
Any other suggestions ? Did rooting create the problem ? Or removing apps ? Why reset didn't fix the issue ?
Thanks
Did you install a custom recovery and backup after root?

I don't recall that I had done that
You need to restore your Nandroid backup .
Whatever you debloated you have removed some key components hence the messages .

Are saying I need to restore what I backuped via Titanium ? or something else ?

If you don't have that you can flash it with your firmware.
EDIT: I would have invested in mobile odin in that case. Makes life easier.

He meant you should restore with your custom recovery, but if you don't have one and didn't do any backup that's not so easy..

Anytime! And i would also clear data/cache and dalvik cache. It will erase your phone so it will be like new.
And install custom recovery and do a backup when you get all things running so you can restore your phone if something happens again..
Good luck!

First of all,hi all, newbies here.. Bought my O2X for about a month n flashed a few custom roms..question is,i read somewhere that 'restoring data' after flashing roms can cause battery drain issue,is that mean restoring thru recovery or titanium backup? I always use titanium backup n restore app only, afraid of the batt drain issue, but it gets annoying coz i need to set up everything again.(account login, settings).

Only restore "user apps", not system data when coming from another rom.
Sometimes restoring user apps WITH data can cause problems, like batterydrain. For example when going from froyo to gingerbread.

not really, when staying on froyo rom (MCR Kitchen for example), just flash over new rom, you will keep your data ...
when flashing new baseband -> also just restore backup in CWM
when changing to CM, i would recommend using titanium or mybackup pro to restore your apps (exclude system apps in backup, cause they are different !)
but when you´re staying on CM , just flash new rom, you will keep your data !

i came from fr14 to fr18b2 without wiping anything !
i would only wipe once when you plan to move to cm, but when you stay on MCR based roms, just reflash rom and enjoy !

Fear, BlazingDragon, they are all based on MCR, so it shouldn´t be a problem ...
just try out, in worst case, when facing a bootloop or some other problems, you can wipe anyway afterwards ...
so it´s good to have a "titanium" or "mybackuppro" backup for worst case
Ok thanks dude!

Hello,
I have had some issues with a ROM (Extreme ICS) and had to reinstall it.
I backep up everything as Nandroid Backup, because there were several bootloops, everytime stuck etc. and when I restored it, again bootloops.
I restored only "data".
Now, I flashed CM9 and tried to restore only the "data" at "advanced restore", but again, it stucks at the CM9 boot screen and is loading .. now since 10 minutes ..
Tried it with DevilKernel and Semaphore and stock CM9 Kernel of course.
Nothing.
Can I do everything ? Any ideas ? I want to have my apps like colorNote again
Thank you,
YEA64
Restore data one app at a time, and no system data, then you can find the data that is causing problems

It boots until the boot screen of the ROM .. it passes the Kernel logo and so on .. but it "loads" to a long time, so in your opinion it is non sense to wait ?

I would go for a clean instal, I go back to gb every month or so, just to keep it clean and slick, only takes an hour to clean flash and restore back to where I am on slim, then as soon as I'm back and clean I do fresh nandroid and I know I'm safe and protected, might sound over the top but I give a lot of advise on slim thread and I need to know what works, what are bugs, and what is caused by user mess ups!

Hi there,
I want to ask you all how do I root my stock ICS without installing other custom roms. I just need the stock to be rooted for me to install titanium back up and unroot it after the Jellybean official arrived.
I am having a lot of problem with game save files import and export. Cause most of the game save saved locally on phone.
Any help would be grateful!

Go through Dr.Ketan's guide..you will get to know everything about rooting.
I did the same thing when I first rooted my phone. Just rooted the stock ICS & was using it. So, under development section, you will find the kernel thread in which you will see Philz kernel. Select the one which is for your ICS version & flash it via PC Odin
just install the philz kernel using recovery and you will get root.
If I want to restore back to stock kernel, what should I do? flash stock kernel again?

Yes using mobile odin..

Use Exynos Abuse.
It will work on ICS firmware only. (Not GIngerbread)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2050297
Its the safest, easiest and quickest method to root.

I just updated thru Kies in Hong Kong, to 4.04 JB. I tried to use the camera and I had an alert blocking the camera screen and a message bar as follows "Tap and hold shortcuts to edit them. Also combined with it where the OK button was was a text box with the words scanning media in it.
Now, its working after I played with it, first I reboot, that didn't help. Then I accidentally put it into third party mode but hit the up volume to get out of it before it went into download mode. It started to reboot but I held the up-vol, home and on button until it went to the rest screen. I tried to just wipe the cache, but it didn't do anything, moving the selector up and down worked, I tried wiping cache again, no luck, so I just reboot. After rebooting I laid the phone down and started to look for a solution in here. So I go to try the camera again to get the alert message it had, and
Wha La, the darn camera started working right, the alert blocking the screen was gone, it came up as usual for a new triggering, but it accepted my selection when I told it ok and then it went away as usual, computers, micro-processors, no matter what kind, if you have problems, some times just a long shut down to clear the electronic memory will also clear the problems.
Hi all
Simple question. Can I do it directly by formating every partition and then install cm9 or I have to get into download mode.

first of all the roms from cyanogen mod is provided as installable zip
not a odin package
if you are on kitkat thats not a matter.
then you can use philz touch or twrp to make a full wipe
and install the cm9 downloaded package

Sorry for my misleading. By using oding I was just referring to the fact of going back to gingerbread original ROM and also doing a /512 partition.
I need to know of someone has done it successfuly. My home button is not working any more so it is not easy to get into download mod if I brick the i9000.

I've just fixed the motherboard of my old S1 and started using it again after using a HTC One mini for 8 months. The phone was a piece of crap and so are HTC! They have me a HTC One M7 for my troubles but was too little to late. Samsung forever!
In time I may upgrade to the S2 for the extra ram, but I'll be sticking with my trusty S1 till then.

Hi guys, I finally made the decision to root my z1,but first of all, I need to back it up. Problems are :
1. Sony pc companion backup is cr*p.
2. So I opted to using helium. Now, I got all settings up. Downloaded the pc counterpart of the app, downloaded the Android app from Google store, set up into debug mode. Helium requires my phone on PTP mode, which I do, but 1 second later, it comes back to MTP mode.
Did I miss anything? I tried downloading "drivers" from helium 's suggestions, but the one they have their is older than my SPCC.
Thanks in advance! I really look forward to rooting my device and getting it's benefits. Cheers!

I had the same problem, and I didn't find any solutions (I have Helium Premium). I ended up backing up my phone using Sonys software, just to be on the safe side. Rooting does not wipe your phone (at least not the method I used), but better safe than sorry. Unlocking on the other hand will wipe your phone!
After root, I installed Titanium and made all the backups I wanted. I also installed dual recovery (still without wiping the phone) and made a Nandroid bckup.
Titanium backup always work, use that in the future. It is worth the money, all others I have tried have been of no use

He's right. Move all files from internal memory to the PC and then use titanium backup. It's able to back up your entire phone including the application data. Duh. It can actually backup your entire device with system apps and it's data.
