The amazing battery charge time of the Nexus 5 - Nexus 5 General

Anyone notice how fast this phone charges when plugged directly into the wall? In 45 minutes my phone charged from 55% battery to 95%!
My Galaxy S3 charged around 20% per hour.
Anyone know how Google was able to do this?

yeah, i've noticed this thing averages about 1% every minute, which is good. thats quicker than i thought the 1.2A charger was gonna do.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's due to the Quick Charge 2.0 feature Qualcomm put in the 800.

Yeah wall charger. 0% to 100% in about 2 hrs.

Does not see this fast to me. the s4 charges faster.

Hope it does well on my LG wcp 300 wireless. Still waiting on n5 arrival.
KitKat Nexus⁴ p)

Not sure exactly how fast from 0 to 100 percent, but I would say between 1 hour to 1 and a half.

I am seeing almost exactly 1% per minute using the included charger. Love it.

Yup I noticed this the first time I charged my phone. I like it

I charge my phone with the wireless charger for the Nexus 4 and I noticed that it charges quite quickly.

Yesteday I was at about 4% and at work. I put it on the charger (just a 1Amp charger) and an hour later it was close to 80%.....i thought it was glitch but love it...
Now I need a wireless pad.... just toss it on there and voila.

Initially, took forever to charge. Battery was draining while plugged in and using the phone. Then I plugged it into the gnex wall wort and it started charging real fast. And the gnex was charging just as fast on the n5 charger. Haven't checked on the supplied charger since. Time to give it another shot.

Just got a nexus 5 today. Traded my Unlocked HTC One for it zero out of pocket even. Trade. The charge on this thing is a beast! Great phone so far.

I'm pretty this is not the case. The wall adapter that comes with the N5 is not Quick Charge 2.0. certified.

Won't be nearly as fast via wireless charging.
Nexus devices have charged fast since the N4. Maybe it's an LG thing? My Note 3 doesn't charge as fast, but it's a 3200 mAh battery w/a 2amp charger. Still not as fast though, even with the same Snapdragon 800.
It's likely that Google worked with LG on the battery drivers for fast charging to offset the lackluster battery life (similar to Lenovo's X1 Carbon quick charge). They know you will have to charge at some point during the day, so they needed to make it fast to keep people from flipping out.

How's your battery life?

My battery life is decent, but the charging time is the slowest I've ever seen on any device I've ever owned. I'm not even kidding. Surely it's just a defect on mine right?
Negative. My charge time was ridiculously slow. To the point that while I was charging in my car, if I was doing things along side it, my battery would actually go down. Plugged into wall, it is slow but charges though. Maybe its just US or a small number?
Waiting to get mine still. Did anyone else notice that on Sprint's website it said the One has a 19 hour battery life?

It seemed a little better this afternoon, but I've basically had the device plugged in since this morning(10am)(got it at 55%, and albeit the majority of the time, it was plugged into the vehicle[which hasn't been very good anyways[[my GS3 also loses battery while on charge if doing anything concerning navigation or streaming]]]) and it literally hit 100% about 20 minutes ago. granted I've been using it like a pack mule. and I'm sure you have too.

i heard they packed a li-polymer battery which makes the battery hold its charge longer for the life of the battery when compared to a li-ion battery.. and i dont think htc enabled fast charge like most devices...maybe someone will mod that for us...we need fast charge!!!!!!! still waiting on my ONE

Actually I haven't used it at all. Got it at 2 PM, was at 60%. Dropped my mom off at the airport immediately after, came home and it was 50% at 3:20 PM (which is okay because LTE was on by default and it's super patchy here so I turned it off). Plugged it in and showered, 15 minute shower and I come out and it's 50% still (plugged directly into the wall). Went to work at 5, 55% when I got there. Plugged it in to the computer we have at the front desk and over the course of my 5 hour shift it eventually hit 95% before I had to leave at 10 PM. Un-****ing-acceptable.
yeah, I'd say mine is a little better than that. I left the screen off and didn't use it for like 2 hours and it went from 73% to 91.

Sent from my HTCONE
I don't have my One yet so I can't confirm this personally, but I've read in a few different places that the charging rate is a little slow compared to other phones. My guess is that HTC is trying to maximize the lifespan of the battery since it's non-removable. Quicker charging would generate more heat and might cause it to wear it out faster.
Yes this is the case. Check anandtechs review.
Brian speculates just as you do that it is for longevity.

If I'm not mistaken, the phone has a smart battery or a circuit inside the battery that prevents it from drawing too much current. It is pretty much a standard among smartphones these days. Therefore, even though you use the 2 amp charger, you may not charge faster at all.

Do not charge from a computers USB port, they are going to be slow as **** without fast charge.

How long does it take to fully charge your Z1

as the title says,
How long does it take to fully charge your Z1 from 0%?
mine takes 2.5 - 3 hours, I do think that this is quite a lot although it is faster than my old xperia S which took ~2 hours with almost half the battery size. But I was expecting more improvement from the promised 70% with quick charge 2.0. This is around ~40% improvement, or am I missing something?

I don't think Quick Charge 2.0 adapters are out till early 2014. Even if they are, the one that came with my Z1 doesn't support it. Only Quick Charge 1. You can tell because the output is listed on the adapter (mine is 1500 mA).
Quick Charge 1 works on .7 to 2.5 A. Quick Charge 2 is 4+ A. (Standard USB 2.0 port will provide 500 mA while USB 3.0 will provide 900 mA).
So my 1.5 Amp Z1 charger isn't even at the top end of Quick Charge 1. With that said, I haven't tested a full charge. But if plugged into a USB 2.0 port, it barely charges while phone is on (few percent an hour maybe).

what you said does really make sense because quick charge 1.0 promise ~40% faster charge which I reported in my first post (+1 for that). Now is there any way to check whether the Z1 support quick charge 2.0? I know the chip S800 does, but what about the battery software or other internals (I am not really expert in this area). if it does then when new adapters are released with output more than 1500mA we will get faster charge time. I have my nexus 7 charger which says 2000mA, would this make difference and would it hurt the Z1 battery if I used it?
One last thing, if the output is 3000mA does that mean half the charging time? or there are other things to take into account?

All Snapdragon 800 chips have the QC2.0 circuit so we're good. Just have to wait for chargers.
I'm not an electrical engineer (studied mechanical) so I can't comment on things like losses within the charging process and all that technical stuff. However you have the concept right and in general that should be true. 3A charging a phone should charge it twice as fast as 1.5A

I've just made one test from 6% to 100% it take more than 2 hours i don't know if it was with qcharge 2 i've used the dk31 with a old AC to usb.
Other charge are made from 30-40% to 100%.
Mine takes an average of 2/3 hours to charge from 5% to 100%, I do however only use 1 Amp charges which are old phone chargers. I think I shall get my Note 2 plug out which is a 2 Amp charger and see how that gets on, I totally forgot I had it and I kinda annoyed me with its hissing noise...Even though I found out later it's normal!

The iPhone 5 has a battery half the size of this... I personally take about 2 -3 hours to fully charge the phone using the Sony provided charger!
Started Charging at 1:06 am - Battery was fully discharged.
1:23am Put Phone on - Battery at 11%
2:31am Put screen on - Battery at 52%
3:06am : Put screen on - battery at 73%
4:19am Put screen on - battery at 99%
4:26am Put screen on - Battery fully Charged .
I think the problem with the provided charger where the output is only 1500mA. the SGS4 with sd600 (does not support quick charge 2.0) comes with charger with output 2000mA which I tried with my Z1 and slightly improved the charging time. what we discussed earlier about early 2014 release of the quick charge 2.0 compatible chargers is the solution, I found couple of sources that confirm this. so we hope that better chargers to be released soon with 3000mA + ouput which would reduce the charging to to less than half.
it took 1 hour 40 min to go from 20% to 100%, I'm using the charging dock that came with the phone.

Quick Charge 2.0 Notification

I just got a Quick Charge 2.0 certified charger made by Tronsmart, the WC1Q. I plugged it into my phone but there seems to be no notification for fast, quick or turbo charging. Is this how this phone works because I tried it on someone's Note 5 and it did display Turbo charging when the adapter was plugged in.
The charger itself seems of average build quality and it has 'made in china' written on it. But since it did show up as a turbo charger on the Note 5 I want to figure out a way to be sure the charger is fine and that the Moto X 2014 just doesn't show any specific quick charge notification.

I got it from Allmytech as well. So that eliminates the charger being a fake. Got it in a white box as well. (I do doubt if this is a recertified product or first copy or something). In amy case, it must be Marshmallow that supports the quick charge notification unless anyone else can confirm this. Thanks once again for your help.
(I'm still working my way to a low battery so that I can try charging the phone and see how quick it charges even without the notification)
So my phone finally discharged down to 16% and I started charging it using the Tronsmart 1 Port Quick Charge 2.0 Adapter.
The phone charged to 100% completely in a total of 1 hour and 30 minutes. I used it a bit during charging but most of the time it was left on just sitting there with 3G and wifi disabled. As fast charging works it did turbo charge the first 60% really fast. In half an hour it was up at 61% and in 15 minutes it came up to about ~32%. I will try this again tomorrow morning when my battery should be drained, it seems like ever since I got the charger the battery life has gotten better

Mine charges in roughly the same time, though I never payed much attention to the charging time. But it does gets heated, though not alarming hot, but I can feel the difference.
I bought my XT1097 here in Brazil July 2015 and it came with Motorola Turbo Charger and I got a 2nd charger, the same in the question: Tronsmart QC2.0 from Aliexpress and it works as well. I'm at MM 6.0.
To be sure, try to download some apps that show the actual charging current, like AMPERE (link here).
As you may already know, when your battery is low, the QuickCharge puts a lot of juice really fast and it slowly reduces the speed when battery is getting full. Under 40% of battery is normal the ampere app to show about 2300mAh. It qualifies that QC2.0 is working fine!
That's it! I hope you have understood me... sorry about my english!
So I've been using the charger when I need a quick charge in the morning before I head out to work and its working great. Does heat up when it feels like it but again not 'alarmingly hot'. I checked the current using the Ampere app and it's pumping the correct amount i.e. ~2000ma. The charger checks out, it's working great. 60% battery in 30 mins as it should. And there is no "Quick Charge" notification on Lollipop for the XT1097.
Nice then!
It should be a Lollipop "Issue" cause in Marshmallow the TurboPower notification pops up right after you plug the cord!

Charging speed

To power up, you consume Red Bull. But your phone just needs its adaptive fast charger. Rate this thread to express how quickly the LG V20 can charge. A higher rating indicates that it charges extremely fast.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I use Ampere to see the rate I am getting. First plug in might only be 90 mah. I unplug, replug, it jumps up to 350. A couple more times and I end up at 900-1200. Screen off and let it fast charge.
I recently tried out the HTC Bolt for a couple weeks and it seemed to charge much faster than my V20. Shouldn't it be the other way around since the Bolt uses quick charging 2.0 while the V20 uses Quick charging 3.0?
Slowest charging phone i ever owned but i still love it lol
My H910 charges relatively quickly. Just plugged it into a quickcharge 2.0, not 3.0 car charger and it went from 16% to 50% in ~25 minutes.
I regularly get rates of 1.8A or greater using a CHOETECH or Anker charger. One its above 80%, it drops down, but this is normal.
The Anker is QC3.0 and the CHOETECH are QC2.0

and btw, my LG G2 can do full charge in 1 hour and 20 mins (80 minutes), and it's not even QC 3.0
I read somewhere in gsmarena, QC 3.0 should charge to 80% in 30 mins

not sure about G2. I've never had one.
QC 3.0 might be able to do it technically, but I've never seen a phone that fast in charging yet. Not even the OP3T which every body is saying quickest in charging.

Hmm.. okay.
How about your G Flex2? how long it would take to charge to 100%?
G Flex2's battery 3000mAh, right? Same as G2

That grandpa tooks around 2+ hrs to get full charge
But to be fair with the phone, I've never used the original charger of G Flex 2 to charge. I either used my old chargers from previous phones or I plugged it into my laptop to charge it. Let me find the original charger and try it when i get back home
Great
Very fast charge
Delete please.
I have absolutely no complaints with the charging speed. Also, I rarely drop below 40%.
My battery takes forever to charge up!
I just bought a VS995 Verizon Unlocked off the net. Was classified as "almost new - open box", hope I did NOT get a unit with problems. Re-charged it now a total of 5 times and on average (plus or minus 3-5 minutes) it takes approx. 3 hours and 18 minutes. for a full charge 0% to 100% . A few thoughts and questions came to mind while reading all your excellent posts:
1.) I believe he must of lost his quick charger because the one he gave me seems like he bought it off the net. Standard USB charger. So probably not using the quick charge function feature of this phone correct?
2.) Can I goto an electronics store and just copy whatever voltage and amps I need to perform a quick charge? Can someone please POST what the voltages and amps needed for a quick charge 3.0 please.
3.) Anyone have a bad battery or have one go bad after using the wrong charging devices? I was thinking of ordering a new battery BUT they are a little pricey. Anyone know some good outlets to buy them at a fair price?
4.) Does rooting the device and putting one of the ROM's on their cell solve anyone's battery problem? If so which ROM do you recommend?
Overall that is my only gripe about the phone. I love the DAC and for all you music lovers out there try Sirius XM on the LG-V20 and make sure to use Hi-Fi made headphones. I bought myself Bowers and Wilkens P7's, sort of pricey but worth it to me. The other thing is Napster as well the songs you download sound awesome with this DAC. For both of these APPS make sure you go into settings and adjust the quality of the downloads and streaming. Otherwise you could be listening to it with poor quality settings from the get go.
Ok well I appreciate any help or advice on my battery situation!
Thanks in advance to anyone helping me out.

Any charger that says Quick Charge 3.0 would work. I think even QC 2.0 would charge at the same speed, but just less energy efficient.
The difference between qc 2 and 3 is 3 has a variable voltage allowing it to use energy more efficiently.
Excess energy is lost as heat on qc2, the power is reduced in qc3 when the battery starts to get full.
The charge time is the same.
Specs for QC 2 is 5V / 9V/ 12V, specs for QC 3 is
3.2v - 20v dynamic
