So even if we get the ability to flash a custom rom. Would the pen work in an AOSP based ROM? Or are the pen featured tied into touchwiz?
If so, wouldn't focusing on modifying stock with tools like wanam be more beneficial?
Just a thought...

AOKP had S-pen support on note 2. Not sure how great it was but I know it was there.

Spen works perfectly on other ROMs. You don't get Samsung-specific app stuff like air hover or what not, and SPen specific apps won't work, ie: those using the Samsung SPen SDK. There are plenty of drawing apps etc that provide a similar toolbox but have no dependencies on a Samsung ROM.

Does anyone have a pack that has S Pen applications like S Note and S Memo on custom ROMs?
EDIT: I use Paranoid Android 3.10 on JellyBean 4.2.2
They only work on TW roms.

Is there another application that I can use to instantly edit the captured pictures?
NO.
By the way, Papyrus is a fine replacement for SNote.
There is apps on the market than can do all these. Search what feature you want and download.
Search Spen or "S pen"

Papyrus is great and all, but the lines aren't as smooth as S Memo. I know this is a necro post, but someone may be interested. Papyrus IS a great and free app, but it leaves something to be desired in fluidity. Still better than TW, IMO.
I had the same issue. But I converted the notes files into text format and upload to Google Keep app, which is available in play store.
Copy all snotes files to PC and rename the extension to .zip or rar format. Then open the archive files to find thumbnail jpeg and type the contents in notepad and copy to Google keep

There is handwrite, papyrus and others...
I found to be the best "freenote" and color note
somehow have better accuracy
Is there a way to get my S Notes from my Samsung account somewhere? From the PC? I'm using an AOSP ROM, and I want to get my S Notes back. Is there a way, or would I have to flash a TouchWiz ROM to resynchronize them?
If u have not wiped internal memory then u can find snotes files there. Once found then follow the above said procedure

...there is , try Adobe PhotoShop Touch. I've heard a lot of hype about Papyrus...Give "Write" a try - has more of the awesome S Note options, like the ignore hand/palm thing, so you can write like most ppl normally do, w/o you're whole hand in the air.
Papyrus is good... some features like the true eraser and export to dropbox are premium features that don't cost that much.
I prefer write as it offers a lot of functionality.
You can also use Evernote
Just seen this on the wire and thought how awesome it looks.
Rockchip is a chinese chip manufacture that powers devices like the popular MK808 and other handheld devices. Looks like they've been busy as today they announced they have a Split screen solution similar to Samsung that runs on Stock Android, except it can run any app.
Oh man does this look yummy.
How likely is it that we will get this on the Nexus 7?

Anyone correct me if I'm wrong, But Samsung implementation seems to only be custom apps that work in window form, but this seems to be a framework implementation?
Meaning this should work well with all Play Store apps as long as they followed the Android development guidelines and have a tablet UI. (fragments, panels etc)
Why is this thread has a PORT prefix in the title?

You are correct about how Samsung multi window works.
I don't know what the guidelines are for this multi window feature.

I wrote an article on this yesterday.
I can't wait to see how it properly functions on some of the well known devices.
@StrangerWeather its very likely the N7 will get it as its probably the most popular 7" tab on the market.

Because it would require a port from Rock chip devices to our N7.
This seems really cool because the Samsung required specific apps where here, he used anything, such as the stock settings app. So it should work with any app.
Plus I like how they all control and flip back and forth. Really nice.

Saw this on Android police and the implementation of gestures, Window resizing, management etc was nice and it's better than Samsung's Multi Window feature.
Wish this gets ported to custom ROMS soon.

Hopefully in the final release it uses the phablet layouts when in split screen. Ideally it would recalculate screen metrics based on the window size.

So if I wanted someone to make a guide on how to root would I make a thread called "[GIUDE][HOW-TO] How to root Nexus 7"?

The rumor has it that Paranoid Android team is developing something like this. In fact CM team had tried to publish their version of multi window(project Cornersrone) but Google wouldn't let them. Multi window is totally possible to make for N7 and whatever modern android device. In near future!

Quite frankly, in the era of 1080p displays, there should be multi-window baked in to the OS. It's a feature that I think would really propel Android forward.

Useful on a tablet but pointless on a phone. May be Google will bring this in KLP?

I sure as hell hope so. Who said Sammy devices can have fun with this all alone?
Yo! So, I know this phone is kinda old, but I'm still rocking it. My question is based on the fact that I've tried pretty much every custom ROM and I'm currently using CM10 4.2 and I'm really not digging the contacts and messaging app that comes with it and most of the custom roms for jellybean.
So, I am wondering if it possible to replace the apk with an alternative from the play store?
Any help would rule. Thank you so much to the developers for making this phone so customizable and easy to change!

Try aoip it up to date all other roms are discontinued
There are several dialing and message apps in the play store. I think the contacts app I use is Rocket Contacts, or something like that. As for messaging apps, I will have to look at which I am using, but there are several, most of which are good, I would imagine.

With nothing developed for this version at this time, what does rooting bring to the Note 3
Rooting allows you to make the phone tolerable to look at. You can install Xpsosed framework and Wannam to clean up the notification shade. App settings can change the DPI of different apps. There are plenty of reasons to root if you're on the fence about it.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Also allows you to fully delete any 'bloatware' apps you do not want or use versus just disabling them and the files are still left on the phone.

Hi,
Is it possible to use the galaxy note during courses To take notes? Like noting equations, drawing graphs etc. in one document? I am not quite sure wether the screen is to small for that purpose. Additionally i think there is no official Firmware after 4.1.2 JB? So when i flash a custom Rom (4.4.4) is it still possible To use the s pen? And which app is recommendend then? I dont Know if asus supernote is working on this phone. I hope you can help me with that.

Spen is working but e.x. in CM 4.4.4 Rom apps like s planner / s memo are not working...
