I was offered a trade for a 32gb Nexus 5 for my Note 3. I was wondering if anyone is also considering this. I am stuck between the two. The only thing thats keeping me from doing the trade is that the battery is awful on the Nexus 5. Just wanted some opinions on this. Thanks
Nope. U getting some extra cash (I mean 399 vs 650) cause straight trade doesn't make sense, might as well sell the note and buy a new nexus

Definitely not worth the trade... If you wanted to you can just buy one used in a month for probably less than 300 and have both phones
agree with everyone here. just read all the reviews on both everywhere if you're still unsure. note 3 is still the best phone on the market. i was in your shoes too deliberating between the two and picked the note 3; very glad i did.
I'm sold on the Nexus 5 after I persuaded my coworker to get one, but I wouldn't even consider trading my note 3 for it.
The truth is I'm having some awful luck with my note. I'm on my 2cd device and I can't seem to stay connected to a wifi network. Plus the home button on both went from perfectly pushable to a sunk in button I have to mash with my fingernail. Sammy definitely didn't hit a home run as far as build quality imho.

The Nexus 5 looks like a fine phone for the price. But my Note 3 has worked flawlessly, and I'm happy to pay more for the bigger, higher-res phone.

This thread is all kinds of wrong. First the Note 3 is worth a considerable amount more than a Nexus 5. Second, this phone beats it in some important categories including screen, battery life and features.
And last but not least, stock Android blows. Especially the latest version with those big and ugly icons. Stock Android is super boring to me and too light on features.
Just my opinion but don't do it.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using xda premium
Even with the bloat I think the Note 3 is far superior to any of Nexus devices. I even think the S4 is as well.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk
Battery life on the Nexus 5 compared to the Note 3, is night and day. The N5 can't even last a day, not even close.
And I still love the deep Plasma blacks, and vibrant colors of AMOLED screens, I've seen the N5 in store, and it looks washed out in comparison.
Plus more RAM on the Note 3.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda app-developers app
Making a phone with that small of a battery is like putting a 3 gallon gas tank on a car...almost not usable. 3,500-4,000 mah should be the standard on phones these days. You would be very disappointed with the trade.
Note 3 -- Tapatalk version [HORRIBLE.1x]
Erica Griffin from YouTube did a mini review of the Nexus 5 and she was only about 3:30 uptime, 2:20 screen time and she was at 26% battery. It's a joke and even she was saying the same pretty much.
If you are a moderate to heavy user in any way, why would you even consider the Nexus 5?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using xda premium
I just returned my nexus 5 today. It's hard to use anything with a non amoled screen after you have used a phone with an amoled screen.
The nexus 5 camera was also horrible.
Sad part is, I bought the nexus 5 and gave my wife my note 3 and now she won't give it back, so it's back to the sgs4 for me

Hi guys. I have a Nexus S and I already posted this in the NS and N4 forums.
Now... I've been wanting a Nexus 7 ever since it was announced, but only now that I can afford one.
But now I see I've got a chance to buy a 16gb Nexus 4.
I was planning on continuing to use my Nexus S as it totally rocks running CM10.1 and using the Nexus 7 for browsing the web around the house and playing games.
If I would buy the Nexus 4 I would obviously not afford the Nexus 7 for a while. But the Nexus 4 is such a sexy piece of hardware and it has a much better camera than the Nexus S and I've got a baby on the way and I would love to be able to take good pictures and HD videos of my little ones.
Help me decide!
Nexus 7 + Nexus S
Or
Nexus 4 only
I´ll tell you one thing that might sway your opinion a bit...
I am in Iceland... A 16gb Nexus 4 is 99.900 ISK = 775 USD. A 32gb Nexus 7 is 59.900 ISK = 465 USD.
:crying:

Well, speaking as a newer parent (22 month old daughter) in the long run you'll value your pictures far more than whatever hardware you get today. So if the phone will be your primary camera, get one with a good camera...and fast. My Evo 3D was so slow from button press to photo actually taken, I kept missing great shots...but I digress.
Those prices really suck though...makes me think there could be money being a technology mule. LOL

Nexus 7 + Nexus S.
Then wait for the next nexus phone or the 'rumoured' X-Phone by Motorola.

Nexus 4. Quality pictures of your baby will be more valuable. Later on you can get the new nexus 7 inch device.

Sounds like a tough pickle...if it wasn't for the pictures I would say go nexus s and nexus 7 that is about to be my combo when my nexus 7 comes in. I went with that option simply because I was tired of waiting to get a nexus 4 that and I am temporarily computerless.

Well if you get them shipped from america and paid american prices you could get both for the price you are paying for the N4.
There are companies you can use to buy them and ship them to you.

I recommend you the 7 & nS combo.
The 7 is a dream.

I would say you should get the Nexus 7 and keep the Nexus S. That is what I did, and I love it.
I would take the Nexus 7 cause i don't care about camera and the nexus s can do almost all things the nexus 4 can. It's just slower.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
I'm actually swaying toward the NS+N7 combo.
I'm seeing a lot of threads about issues with the N4. I'm not the type who has to have the newest gadgets so I think I might just wait until most of the issues with it have been resolved and then it might have reduced in price a bit here in Iceland.

You should definitely get the n4. Why downgrade to a 2 year phone? I bought the n7 first then a month later i got the n4. It's been great so far. My only wish is that my n4 would be more battery efficient like my n7. I love my n7 because of the size, gaming performance is amazing, and did i mention battery life is superb?

I have lived the nexus 7 since launch. if you need a phone as your main camera thenget a Samsung. I bought a nexus 4 sixteengig. sold out right away and bought notetwo. battery life wasn't that Good andno ability to swap batteries. the 3100 mah battery on this bad boy means you will never . miss a photo or video opportunity due to dead battery. internal plus a 64gig external means recording lots of hd video. I would hit eBay.

I was also considering a new phone, but got the 7 instead, and I'm so glad I did. Love it. Quite happy still using my galaxy s(1) for a while longer. The nexus 7 is something different than just another phone, when you already got a phone that you're still happy with.

Get the N7. The Nexus 4 to me, just isn't worth it. Too many things led me to not buying one, and I instead stuck with my Gnex. 90% of users don't even use that Snapdragon CPU. The camera isn't that great. Front and back both glass which is a big no no for me.
Trust me, the N7 is well worth it.
It seems to me that with that difference in price, you could buy the N7 and then get a decent little point and shoot (or maybe even a super zoom) camera. Keep your S for a while and save, then buy the N4 if it's still what you want.

As soon as I get my Experia Z, I will keep it for what it was bought to be, a development phone I can play with.
4. Think I'll keep this thing till there are actual octacores otherwise there aren't any reasons to upgrade. So 3-4 years I'll keep it.

I still go back and forth between my Galaxy Nexus and my Nexus 4. I use the Galaxy Nexus when I'm snowboarding and for bar nights when I know things might get a little weird.
While I do still love the Galaxy Nexus, every time I pop the SIM card back into the Nexus 4 and turn it on I am instantly reminded of how much more solid the build quality and performance are on the Nexus 4. It really is an extremely noticeable difference.
For that reason I'll definitely be holding onto this phone for at least a year. At which point I'll probably get whatever the next Nexus is and use the Nexus 4 as the backup phone.

The latest nexus is always a good choice because you get support from Google for a good while and they're easy to resell.
I've had mine for a few months now and when you compare the cost to hardware/software combo of the N4 to any other phone, the N4 wins hands down.
Sure if your budget was unlimited I'd probably go INA different direction (HTC One).
The good thing about the Nexus line is that they hold their value. If you chose to buy a used one now, you can probably sell it when the N5 comes out and not take a significant lose.
My only gripe with the N4 is the camera. My wife's S3 takes better pictures, otherwise its an awesome phone. What device will you be coming from?

I go through Android phones like you wouldn't believe, I've had over 10 in the past 3 years. The Nexus 4 is the best I've ever used and the phone I've stuck with longest. I got one at release and sold it a couple of months ago to try an Xperia Z, sold the XZ after a few weeks and went back to the N4, it's that good.
Ive also had way to many Android handset's over the past 2 years, and even an Iphone 5.
I also had an N4 on release day too and sold that for the iphone.
Sold the iphone to go back to the Nexus 4.:good:
Its by far the best and purest Android phone I have ever used.
I love it so much, I now have a Nexus S as my work phone and a Nexus 10 tablet.

Just wondering who here who has the Nexus 4 is planning to get the impending Nexus 5 when it comes out in a 'few' weeks?
NB lets just all assume that its based on the LG G2 with 4G LTE, Snapdragon 800, 2 GB RAM, 5.2 inch display etc etc and the N4 will get 4.4 on release.
I will most likely. The only thing I really hate (amongst other things) on my nexus 4 and nexus 7 is that the aspect ratio is no longer 16:9 like it was with the galaxy nexus. It really kills the video viewing experience.

I'm on the fence. Just jumped on the Nexus bandwagon a week ago just using the N4 as a stop gap until I got the phone I wanted (I have issues) even if it would be a month. But my eyes have been opened to the fact that my life is improved by a smartphone and drastically improved by a very good one.
So I'm in love with my Nexus 4 and we're planning on having a summer wedding.
But seriously, I think I'll be upgrading when the price drops in time for the next Nexus, but just not so I can be on the bleeding edge.
My Nexus 4 is already fast, has great battery life, LTE, takes decent pics, etc etc. Unless they add some really useful feature like expandable storage/removable battery or something along those lines (and I doubt they will add those) I won't be upgrading for at least a little while. Time will tell.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
It's my plan...but I'm waiting for more compelling info/specs...the N4 is damn nice, so I'd need a few extra reasons to blow the wad.
I want to see the specs of the N5 because I bought my N4 4 months ago, but depending on my finances *crosses fingers for the sheriff it job*, than I will definitely upgrade and give my n4 to my daughter. I have the old N7 *2012* and love it as well as I love my n4.. I voted for keeping my n4 but I don't know just yet..
HTH,
Charlie
Why not? If I sell my N4 and the next Nexus 4/5 is going to debut around the same price as its predecessor, it'd only be around an extra $100 or so.
Cannot wait for the Nexus 5!! Will definitely be upgrading
I'm going to upgrade. Main reason is because I like to keep up with the PA devs and from what I hear they're all moving on and will be maintaining one singular device .
I think I'll keep the N4 for awhile. I got both the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus right away, so now I'm going to stick with the Nexus 4. Maybe I'll think about getting it if they release it in white at a later date.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4

I've taken literally hundreds of photos with my N4. I've tried a few camera apps from the Play Store, the CM10.1-10.2 cameras, as well as Focal. I honestly don't believe you can get decent picture indoors without HDR, adequate lighting, and an incredibly steady hand.
I was recently visiting my sister who has a S4 and we were both taking pictures of my niece. Same room, same lighting and her photos were coming out exponentially better than mine. If the Nexus 5 has a camera on par with the S4/One/iPhone 5 I'll be happy. If it can challenge the 5S, even better (but I doubt it).
I have a note 3 which is considered "the tablet phone", but to me it feels like a phone. I would love a tablet but don't know if it's worth the money since I already have a large phone.

Yep, a Note 2014. I use it at home and the phone on the road.
I had a 7" Acer Iconia tablet and Nokia Lumia 920. I got tired of carrying the tablet everywhere I thought I might need a tablet when the phone would not do. Lack of Android on phone of course. So I decided to get the Note 3 to replace both. Now I am happy and only have one daily carry item.. Not to mention the Note is only 1.3 inches smaller than my tablet and that I can live with. Still a huge screen compared to most phones and one of the highest resolutions out there for it's size.

It isn't certain that there will be a new 10" Nexus device in the near future. I use my Nexus 10 for video due to the size of the screen and front facing stereo speakers. Microsoft Surface Pro 2. Carried an iPad that I never used. Note 3 and Surface Pro seem to be a pretty good combo.

How does the surface work as a laptop? Does it get the job done

No Need!
I was in two minds, buying the Nexus 5 and a tablet or buying the Note 3. I bought the Note 3 and I am not regretting my choice. We you need a tablet just rotate the Note 3 and it's pretty much looks like 7 inch tablet.
i bought the note 3 so i didn't have the need to buy a tablet, and to me it's perfect, i won't buy any tablet at all!

Avid reader here, I have to have my 7" galaxy tab 2, note 3 can't replace it in my opinion.

I'm currently sporting a Note 3 and an iPad Mini with retina display. Maybe I should've bought the iPad Air instead. I find myself not picking up the mini that much (except for long reads like ebooks).
If I needed something bigger I'd go for my laptop or Smart TV. :good:

Great as a small laptop as long as you get the type cover. I spent about 2 hours typing up reports, and while it is not as nice as a mechanical keyboard, it works quite well. Touch and pen interface is very nice as is battery life. A bit heavy to hold for pure tablet use, but not obscenely so. If you're familiar with Windows 8 you won't have any surprises, if not it's a strange interface to get used to.
There are glitches and weirdness, but overall I find it a very productive tool.
