Just a stock recover to get you to point A again? You can use Kindle Fire FirstAide for one. Used it so many times. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2096888 You can also use the KFHD Restore Tool for KFHD 7 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1951254
The tutorials are pretty self explanitory but if you get hung up, just ask. You will also need a factory fastboot cable to use these backups.

For all kindal hd steps(only steps. Nt files) r same? I saw one tut for 8.9 so it same for 7 also?

If you use KFFA there are options for the KFHD7 and KFHD 8.9. The restore tool has a different one for 8.9.

Hopefully using the bin to return to 7.2.3 helps, quick question though, if when it says formatting memory and it says type unsupported, is that normal.....and also my kindle won't upgrade even if I click on upgrade button, it's faded out

(Q) cm10.1 kindle app with tts

Really excited about cm10.1 on the kfhd but my wife I fear has an understandable deal breaker, she lets the kindle read aloud to her using the tts ability in the kindle app but the play store kindle app does not have this ability...
Has anyone ported the app or does anyone know a work around other than stripping drm and using a second app?
Sent from my GT-P3110 using xda app-developers app
You can pull the .apk from the Kindle and install it on CM10.1, try to see if that will work. If you've got Hashcode's TWRP installed, make a backup of the ROM you're on, then use a file manager with root access to go into the /system folder, copy the .apk and move the copy to /sdcard, then transfer it to your computer. After you load CM10.1, move the .apk to the tablet again and install it. If it works, you're good to go. If it doesn't, and you're not happy, boot into recovery and restore the backup, and you'll be back to where you were before CM10.1.

don't use safe strap. unlock the bootloader, flash a real rom. change the boot logo to the stock one and noone will ever know you that you unlocked it.
Which would you suggest? I do have unlocked boot loader currently.

Well you don't use safe strap with am unlocked bootloader. Get cwm.

Just download the cwm file and place it in fast boot folder or platform tools if you have SDK.. Open command window there by presssing shift key and right clicking simultaneously... Type the command "fastboot flash recovery recovery_name.img". Replace the name of your recovery To recovery_name... Then "fastboot reboot"

Just did it and saw you posted. When I restored my phone last night I did it manually in cmd with fast boot so it was easy enough.

Can I use a 4.0.4 ROM or anything? I miss otg support. Otherwise what are some good 4.1.2 ROMs?
Also to your reply: by cmd I meant command prompt. I did it with adb and fastboot directly.

Yes you can get 4.0.4 back... But reg otg, it works in 4.1.2 as well ... Even it works with all 4.2.2 nightlies... What problem you face in otg?

What you want to do is split your C: by partitioning half (or more or less) to Windows and the rest to Ubuntu

I suggest you partition during the Ubuntu install to ensure the proper amount of allocation. So just boot up the DVD, say install to C:, and partition like I mentioned above.

You will want to boot into TWRP and flash your nandroid backup. If you don't have one then you will have to adb.sideload a ROM or factory image.
Edit: Make sure you always "swipe" for a factory reset before flashing. Wipe Dalvik and CACHE after.
It wont get to the twrp or blue kindle fire boot screen

You still need money for the breakout board, but $4ish is better than dropping $13 some.
