Hello, I live in Germany and have a 2 year contract with BASE. I bought it in March.. When I bought it I paid the same price back then for the Z as the Z1 costs now and I was wondering if anybody knows whether it's possible to switch phones to the Z1 or any other phone for free or by paying a little extra rather than buying a new one. Is this possible with BASE? Has anybody got experience with this? Also, do you recommend the Z1? Or should I take different phone?

Hello everyone
After being very satisfied with my Xperia arc, I bought the Z. And again I am very satisfied!
A friend of mine also wants to buy a new smartphone. But his budget is around 350 euro's. So he is not getting the Z. But he asked me what to do, either wait for the new Xperia line that's coming or buy the Xperia ion. I don't know what to tell him because I read everywhere that Sony aims to the high end market now. He is really getting on his nerves with his crappy LG phone which isn't even a smartphone.
Is it worth to wait? Or should he get the ion?
Thank you for your point's of view!

In my opinion the XZ is worth to wait, can't your friend like work a month or so to get more money
For now the price of the XZ won't drop.
Tell him to wait or buy LG Nexus 4, Galaxy S3 or HTC One X(X+) for this money.
I'm looking at getting an Xperia Z (there just happens to be someone nearby selling it) and then trading it 1 to 1 for an HTC One (or maybe an S4) when it's out and about, would that work? They're about the same cost, I'm just wondering if they're about the same value. Basically don't want to be stuck to it.
Sv: Xperia Z Value
Well I suppose it's only a question you can answer. It's all about preference. IMO the Xperia z is an excellent high end phone. You can always keep it if you fall in love.

True that, but I meant from a economic standpoint, is it fair to trade a Z for a One?

According to clove.co.uk, HTC One is £510 inc. VAT and XZ is £498 inc. VAT. So it's almost the same

Thanks, ran out of thanks today, I'll see if I can thank you tomorrow
I would never assume I can change a phone for another 1 for 1 after buying one as the newer phone will always be the most sought after. I would say once the S4 and HTC One are released the Z will be worth £350 at best. I bought mine for £450 brand new.
I wouldn't trade an S4 for Xperia Z 1:1. S4 will be priced higher due to its commercial status.
Side note: I traded my 6 month old S3 for a 3 week old XZ no expenses paid

Wow, how'd you manage that? The guy who lives near me selling this thing is asking $600, down from $700. I offered an S3 but he wanted it + $250.
I put it on Gumtree (UK version of Craigslist) and got an XZ offer from a fool

My gosh, if you want to give me his contact info...
So I know the honami is coming out. Yes it looks sick, but my nexus is slowly dying (it was recovered from a friend in a sink accident). I'm gonna need a new phone soon. I would like to wait for the honami however, I don't have 580$ to plop down on a phone upfront. So the t-mobile purchase plan makes a lot of sense and works well in my situation (plus it ends up being the same price as the unlocked phone at the end, unlike some of their other offerings). So I guess I'm asking for your opinion, buy the Z now, or wait till the honami is released, and hope it comes to t-mobile? Thanks guys and gals!

as u know xperia z was for Q1-13 so the features and capabilities are for that time
like S.S4pro and 1.5 Quad But i couldn't see any slow or bad responsibility from X Z anyhow It has Quad core and 2GB RAM and gr8 software support from sony (xperia developers) and other developers & AOSP (something that Honami won't get it)
But Honami is Quadcore 2.2GHz on S.800 and it means it s SO fast
if u don't wanna spend lot of money so xperia z is one of the best choice (and in xperia product best choice )
:good:
Well I still really want it, but according to t-mobile I can't get it with the free speakers and free shipping because that's not applicable for upgrades, only new lines. Maybe I'll wait and see now instead.

I've been a mobile customer for three yrs with five lines I just got me and my son xz yesterday delivered and I got free overnight and speakers with both upgrades don't know why they told you that,I'm on that jump now so maybe the honami.will come to tmobile
Sent from my C6606 using Tapatalk 2
Did you have to call for that? Or were you able to order it online? When I went to order online, I clicked "upgrade my phone" and at the end there was no option for a free speaker or free shipping.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 4 Beta
You are correct but it will ship with the speaker. I called CC and they said they would refund the shipping as I bought the phone. I love the phone, purple is very cool.

I know how t-mobile works, however if you're on their website and click "manage my account" they have an option called "upgrade my phone" which you click to buy a new phone from them. What I described is exactly what an upgrade is, a new phone. How it's paid for doesn't make it something else.

I didn't get free shipping ($7.00 for ground) and it's supposed to be here tomorrow. I'm hoping i get the speaker. I ordered the phone online as soon as it went live. I called CS and they credited me the shipping fee, but it looks like I'm not the only one who had the issue.
The Z is a stop-gap for me. I signed up for Jump and hope the honami comes to T-Mobile.

First off like already stated it still comes as a upgrade online even though your on the value plan, also I didn't select the speaker there was no option it just came, and I also had to call to have shipping credited, also joined jump in hopes of the honami coming but if it's like the xz I won't hold my breath

If the honami comes out at the same price as the Z, I'll probably end up buying it unlocked instead of waiting on T-Mobile. However, this is all up in the air till I see the new nexus.

Hi guys and gals
I am looking to buy an xperia z (I live in the UK) and quite a few companies are importing phones from Hong Kong. Whether or not I can trust them aside, would I encounter any problems using this import in the UK? I.e will I only be able to update firmware when released in Hong Kong? Will it be full of non relevant apps? Etc
Any advice would be appreciated.
Cheers
Why would you want to do that? If the price is too good to be true, it is. E Cell/EC, Mobifun and the like have very "strange" sources and you actually have no idea what you're getting and from where.
Use Amazon or similar for a legit and worry-free time.
Or repent.

The simple answer is cost. It's available for around £50 cheaper from Hong Kong.
But I think I'll either pay the extra or wait for it to drop in price a bit.

While it might be £50 cheaper, you might end up paying loads to her majesty customs and revenue if they intercept your package...

I was just going to post this myself. While electronics are duty free, VAT at 20% is payable when importing items over a certain value from outside of the European union.
So, for instance, a £400 phone would incur charges of £80.
Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk 2
@Pumphandle, I am also from UK and I got my Xperia Z reletively cheap. I paid £300 for it on Gumtree but it was a brand new and sealed phone. I'd recommend doing it from Gumtree and have the seller write you a receipt. Also the phone is from UK so you wont have to worry about foreign firmwares and pre installed applications
Anyone know a UK based place to buy the ZL. Don't want to get hit with customs and there charges by buying outside.
A few sellers on Amazon have the ZL in stock. Expansys don't seem to have it.
