Hello everybody, I got some Question about Multirom for the LG Optimus 4X HD. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2405824
1. In the category "Known Bugs" there is a entry "Reboot into Recovery doesnt work"
How I am able to flash custom roms, when I cant reboot into the recovery mode?
2. Are there any alternatives? Which may have some less bugs?
3. Have anybody some experience which this?
Hope I am posting in the right forum, I am new on XDA.
Greetings, TheKampfkeks96

Ok, I have some more Questions about this:
1. In the moment I use JBS (JustBetterStockRom), when I now install Multirom, do I lose any data or options I turned on/off?
2. Actually I use CWM Recovery Touch, is there any Problem to flash to TWRP Recovery?
Thank you so much for your Support

dont know about JBS, havent seen it here on xda.
anyway, after you flash multirom, you wont lose anything. it's modifying the recovery when you first flash it, so it should leave your current rom intact.
and there shouldn't be a problem with you flashing TWRP over CWM. do it from fastboot or adb shell.

Hello XDA.
Being a tech illiterate noob, I rooted and tried to install the latest nightly build from cyanogenmod on my Optimus 2x. I gave clockworkmod superuser rights, booted in recovery mode and went on with the install.
Everything went fine (I think) until the phone rebooted. When it started, as usual, the LG logo is shown. Normally another LG logo comes up after the first one, only with an purple animation behind it.
When this comes up, it completely freezes at the very first frame of the animation. I tried waiting, I left my phone for over an hour, but nothing changed.
As previously stated, I am pretty tech illiterate, so of course I didn't make a copy of the original rom.
Now I can boot into something called Android system recovery <3e>, which says:
"Android system recovery <3e>
Android system recovery utility
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
__________________________
Formatting DATA:...
Formatting CACHE:...
Formatting MISC:...
"
And yes, of course I tried selecting that option, but neither of the keys work. The volume keys work as up and down keys, and the home button shows/hides the options.
I tried downloading the original rom from the giant thread of stock roms, but if you try clicking either of the links, you will see that they are broken.
HELP!
Have you tried the power button yet? Because the power button allows you to select things.
From there wipe everything (data, cache, dalvik) and make a fresh install of cm.

I installed ROM Manager yes. Do you mean that I should install CWM on my memory card? I'm not sure you understood me right, I can't get past the boot menu, meaning I can't install anything via the phone.

Some of the links there are broken, so I can't manage to complete the tutorial.
Also, I am very sorry, but I do not understand what you mean by that last part.
Let's see, you rooted, installed ROM Manager and Clockworkmod Recovery from within ROM Manager, rebooted and from Clockworkmod Recovery (Black Screen with Blue letters, lets you wipe and install zips from SD Card), you flashed the ROM, is that correct?
Can you boot into Recovery by holding the Power + Volume Down buttons? (hold for about 20 secs, until you get to the second LG screen)
If you can get to the recovery mode, try flashing another ROM.

You sir are correct!
I manage to start the phone as you describe, by holding down those two buttons I enter "Android System recovery <3e>", and can choose between the options as I described. HOWEVER, I can't select either of them, trying all the possible buttons (even combinations).
Update: I tried following this guide, but with no luck; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1327599
Good
If you are in Clockworkmod, then you can browse through the menus using volume up/down to move up/down and press the search button (the magnifying glass) to accept or select an option.
I have a Optimus 2X Stockrom, i can upload the rom when i come home (you have to wait about 6 hours sorry ) Then flash the rom in cwm
Sorry for my english :/
Edit: It's the Europe Rom i hope this will help you too

The Europe Open could be what I'm looking for, thanks a lot! It's really hard to come by apparently.
Flashing it in CWM wont be possible though. Perhaps through PC software?
I will upload the Europe Open when i'm back from school.
You can flash the rom ether with cwm or with smartflash.
If you don't know how to flash it with smartflash i can explain it to you

Edit: I'm uploading the Rom now, but it will take some time (about 1 1/2 hours), because i upload with 90 kb/s.
That's your only solution, Flash some Stock ROM with a Tool from LG then root and flash a Custom one if you want.

Clockwork mod recovery is a special android recovery that is made esp. for cyanogenmod and rom manager app. This recovery is able to handle flashing of roms, create backup and restore and do many other advance things, which are not possible to do via stock recovery.
If you don't have problem falshing cm7 then, why are thinking too much about installing CWM recovery? I suggest you give it a try and I guarantee that you'll love both clockwork mod recovery and cm7 custom rom. Good Luck! with the flashing.
P.S. DOn't use ROM MAnager with Galaxy Mini.
Thanx guys for the stupid newb questions!!
I successfully rooted my phone no problem at all, while I was on a role I decided to have a go at installing ClockworkMod, following These instructions I downloaded all files ran odin and booted my phone to download mode I connected it, and odin found the phone, so I pressed start and it didnt appear to do anything. The phone didnt reboot and I got no status messages. I followed them exactly.
I might try again tommorow on another PC.
anyone else experienced this?

Maybe the title was misleading as Why Clockworkmod?
Maybe that's why he replied about stock and custom recovery.
But the content in the post was clear, as the OP said about why the CWM app needed for installing ROMs, but the Thread title should be clear enough though, as it should be more like Why Clockworkmod app?
yes thats exactly what I meant coolsandie, and noted I could have worded the thread better. its been a while since iv done the whole forum thing. but, thanx for the tips guys
This is a CWM recovery for the Xperia T - you need to have unlocked your bootloader at http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions.
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR BRICKING YOUR PHONE ETC. ETC. ETC. - I'm sure you've heard the rest before.
Steps for installation:
Download recovery from http://goo.im/devs/tilal6991/recoveries/mint/15102012.img
Download fastboot and get it into a place where you can run it - I'm not going to provide instructions how - guides are all over the place
Open a command window in the place where fastboot is
Copy the recovery.img to the fastboot folder
Type fastboot flash boot recovery.img
Type fastboot reboot
You will be in CWM!
Note:
The first time you install a ROM you will need to flash the boot.img of that ROM using fastboot - I'm hoping this restriction can be removed at a future date.
A CM port is also up - compiled by me.
Thanks to:
All the CM guys for having their code on Github - I didn't do anything but compile and figure out the instructions for flashing.
Hmm, so tempting but not sure since you've not tested it on the T. Someone else gonna go first?
EDIT: I am sorry, a bad assumption possibly. Have you tested this on a T?
I have. It's tested and working. I've flashed CyanogenMod and using it as a daily as well.
Will have my T today but I wonder how to access recovery in daily use? (undestood the 1st time access, but not the next accesses...)
backup and restore work?
Switch off phone.
Power on phone with volume down held.
And although I haven't tested there's nothing that indicates backup/restore won't work.
Sent from my Xperia T using Tapatalk 2
Hmm, the recovery just cycle boots into recovery mode. It never boots into system
As I said the first time you flash a ROM you will need to fast boot install the boot mage of the ROM.
Sent from my Xperia T using Tapatalk 2
So then you are forced to flash a rom after installing cwm?
Sent from my Xperia T
Yes. Since you are flashing the boot partition its a pseudo recovery so a ROM needs to be flashed.

I flashed this last night successfully. I couldn't get side-loading to work, but it's smooth otherwise. Have not tested backup / restore yet.
Additionally, FWIW, I then flashed the Paranoid Android ROM, and while I've got some issues with it, I didn't have to flash the boot.img from the ROM for the ROM to boot, so I am not sure if that is still required or not... or maybe that's what's causing my issues with the ROM?
Thanks for the recovery!

So this recovery has to be initially installed on the boot partition, but does it copy itself to the recovery partition on first boot or do you have to reflash it every time you want to switch from running a ROM to running the recovery?
Also, is a stock boot.img available anywhere (so that this recovery can be used for nandroid backups with the stock rom)?
Once I am finished with this recovery how do I turn the phone off?
SOLVED
Hold vol + and - and power button.

Hello,
i am new to the forum and i registered in it in order to have a solution on my problem! I downloaded recenlty cyanogenmod for my mobile for your site http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2085347
Before i had android 2.3.3 in my phone! The problem is when i flash the rom i get this error: E:Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip (Status 0)
I have searched the forum for previous similar threads and i followed many of them! However because i am not very expert in these kind of things i was confused in many points of them (for example one which explaned the root of the problem something has to do with the binary update and a script)..And i was not given detailed commands on solving the problem I formatted my sd card (after taking a backup on my pc) and only transfered after, the update for cyanogen mod 10.1 and the one for the google apps but the same problem occured. I desperately need your help because i cant practically use my mobile and i need it...
So please tell me what should i do.
Thank you in advance! Sorry for my bad english
(i also have rooted long time ago my phone)

i thins it is samsung recovery! the samsung logo in on the screen and up left:
RANDUMP Mode (ARM9mode)
If you want to flash custom ROMs, you must have custom recovery, like ClockWorkMod, RZ Recovery or TWRP.
You will need to flash it using Odin first, and then you can change recovery by just flashing packages. (You don't must change recovery after you flash from Odin.)

Welcome.
If it's too slow, then try flashing a previous version of TWRP by Tomoms.
and AFAIK you can't use both of them together.
I'm sorry I have another two questions please. I know that I ask a lot of question
How can I remove TWRP if I want and return to cyanogen recovery?
second question: I can't update superuser binary through recovery mode.

It's okay to ask questions, Lol.
To remove TWRP you need to flash stock fotakernel by TechnoSparks, of your specific device from here.
If removing TWRP doesn't bring back Cyanogen Recovery, you can get it back by flashing recovery.img file from here with Rashr.
btw quote me, or else I won't get notified about your reply.
