So that's basically the question. Please clear this up.
I had gg connected to my gs4 (at&t) on 4.2.2 stock rooted. Everything worked except s voice and the weather. So I'm waiting for the ota update. Right now I have gg connected to my note 2 using leaked 4.3 and all is working fine

Like slick said, everything works but s voice and weather. You may have to download gear manager from these forums though. My phone wouldn't download it from the Samsung store which will change when we get the update.
Im also a Galaxy Gear owner and im also using it with a GS4, and again like they said above weather and Svoice, is not working... Do you guys get text notifications on the watch? Because i don't... ?

it works perfect on s4
I have the gear for month now on my S4... everyrhing works... first day i got it i downloaded leked jelybean 4.3 for s4... since than it works perfect... ...no root required...
So you didn't have to root your GS4 for to flash 4.3?

Just be careful not to flash an OTA update. I've read it could lock your bootloader. Your version is currently fully unlocked.

On my 4.2 GS4 it works, but I can't install any apps from the Samsung Store. Anyone else seeing this?
How in the world did you get this working on 4.2?
I have a tmobile S4 with Infamous V5 and 4.2, and whenever i open gear manager it says:
unable to connect to the gear. connecting to the gear is not supported by your device. how do I get around this?

I just got the Gear and saw a video online showing someone using it with their S4. I couldn't get the app. Its not available on the Samsung apps store or Google Play. Anyone else get it working?

I have it with my S4 and can find and download the Gear Manager in Samsung APPS. Search for Gear and find "Samsung GALAXY Gear Manager".
Not everything working but ok.

I'm using Gear with my Galasy S4 and already when i was on 4.2.2 i found Gear manager at Samsung Apps.but now with leaked firmware 4.3 all works like a charm.

It works but not everything. S VOICE, weather, txt and email alert doesn't work on me using a 4.2.2 rom.

Not that I notice anything monumental on saving juice. Maybe, there would be a significant change once my S4 is on 4.3 JB cuz I know I can check notifications, use S-voice as it's meant to be and what not so less time unlocking the phone and screen usage... although phone's BT is running all the time so Gear could remain tethered to it but i believe it's BT 4.0 LE*, right?
*LE, Low Energy... though am not sure it's got a real world impact or just a marketing scheme...

Alright, so I have been tinkering with my watch and have a few questions. I have rooted my watch and installed busy box, and all is going well so far. Additionally, I am using my watch with my S4, rather than my Note 3. I wanted this topic to be more of a few questions and general discussion/clarification.
I have installed the newest Gear Manager and when I go to Weather on the watch I get "Add city to weather widget on mobile device" but it never seems to sync. I have added a location to the weather widget. Is this by chance just a feature thats not quite working on the S4 yet, or am I missing something?
Pedometer - When I try to send my steps to SHealth it fails to sync. Also, known S4 issue, or missing something?
Gear Manager - Unable to install apps - When I navigate to My Apps > Featured > MyFitnessPal for Samsung Galaxy Gear (or any other app), I select Install, and I get "Product does not exist in this store(4002)". Im guessing this is because the Samsung store is reading my S4 build.prop and determining there are no compatible apps.
In re the last topic, could someone send me the APK from their watch for this app, Ill side load it.
I am at the office and want to install some apps via ADB, but don't have my cradle handy. Is there any way to get an APK to the watch that anyone can think of?
I am working on recompiling the stock camera app that does not have the shutter sound. Ill share when I get it done.
Update: Here is a thread with all of the APKs: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2468522
Thanks!
I got every thing working on my gs4, including svoice, text notification, and weather by using the 4.3 rom. I also downloaded the latest gear manager from a post in this forum and ot seems to work great, including allowing me to download apps from samsung.

yeah, could you elaborate ? I got a replacement phone (a xperia sp) which is up to date. So I think that it should be quite similar to your z1. I'm on 4.3 too. How did you get it work ? I only managed to have a full connection with v1.6.111801 of gear manager, and still notifications weren't working.
How did you do with latest gear manager ? I tried by installing only, or everything... and can't get it connecting to the gear. Just stays on first screen "connecting to gear..."
Any help ?
I'm interested to know as well.. I'm looking at getting the Z2 and would love it to work with my Gear

Launcher has nothing to do with gear manager, touchwiz framework is necessary although in this topic people are saying the new update is less dependant on touchwiz.. you can use any launcher you want it has nothing to do with the files needed to run gear manager..

You definitely don't need a Samsung phone to have the phone work with the Gear. I've had my Gear running with a Moto E and a Moto G - neither of them were rooted or modded in any way. I just installed the latest Gear Manager from a link on here after updating my Gear to Tizen. It's worth mentioning that I was running an old version of Gear Manager originally and my battery wouldn't even last half a day. Since I installed the latest version I'm getting days of use out of it -- having activated only Tweeting, Hangouts, WhatsApp and Gmail for notifications and turned off the auto activate backlight feature. It's four days since I charged and I'm still on 72%
None of the Samsung apps show up on the phone if it isn't Touchwiz based - so there's no S-Voice or Weather. I can use the Bluetooth Trusted Device feature on my Moto to have my phone turn PIN off when my Gear is connected to it.

Yes. I do it all the time. The only difference between doing it on a non Touchwiz phone compared with a Touchwiz phone is that the phone sees it as a handsfree device so will answer on the Gear by default, even if you hit the answer button on the phone. You just need to tap the little icon next to the 'End Call' button on the Gear though and it will route the call back to the handset. You can also tap the bluetooth icon on the dialer and switch the source to earpiece or speakerphone. Bit of an annoyance but not a particular problem.
Followed an XDA guide to pair the Galaxy Gear Fit with the LG G2 for a friend... Then wondered if it would work with my Flex (Ls995). Never finished getting the Gear fit working, but when I reattempted the task with the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo, both worked. Using the Neo for now, feel free to ask questions... So far I like this much more than my Sony SW2.

Working: phone calls, file transfer to/from watch, and of course all watch apps (pedometer, TV remote, all non-phone-dependent stuff) . Not working: all notifications. There's a setting under Security that allows an app like Galaxy Gear Manager access to all notifications, and this setting is only present after an update to Kit Kat. This is why my G2 works flawlessly while my Flex is limited. I'm unrooted waiting for OTA KK but I'm sure rooted devices could have full Gear compatibility.
Kind of disappointing, I was so excited to see it pair up correctly and make a call that I posted right away!

Calls are directed to the gear and for some reason I can't add my bluetooth headset as the audio only. i have tried diabling the phone audio option for the Gear but it still sends the calls to it. I'll keep messing around with the settings to see how it works. Last night I was able to install watchstyler on the phone by installing the apk and i can use those clocks now. Also, the watch is on non-stock Android rom from these forums.
