Hi everyone. My wife recently got a Z1 so I rooted it before she even used it so as to get her Titanium Backups installed.
So, I first had to downgrade to 534 then rooted using King-something, (you know what I mean). I then eventually did the 257 upgrade.
The problem is that she can't receive calls or texts, despite being able to make calls and send texts herself.
This problem existed before the upgrade to 257 and still exists now.
I have checked "Call Settings" and nothing looks out of place...
Any ideas?
Thanks

You probably flash wrong baseband files.
Just download ftf firmware for your region and flash it again
If it.worked before - it's probably that and it'll be O.K after flashing right baseband files.
You should probably uncheck "flash baseband files" before you have flashed 257 firmware.

Yeah, then it's not baseband
But as U said - flashing new firmware should fix that.

Update. I still can't get the phone to receive calls.
I've had a new SIM sent to me (in case it was my DIY cutting from a full sized to a Micro).
Tried PC Companion,
Installed a whole new baseband with Flashtool.
Messed around with the Settings.
But still no incoming calls!
Any other ideas at all?

You do realise that if for example your phone had TMobile ROM on it it will download the TMobile ROM in that tutorial. I have done it myself. I am with Telstra (in Australia) and I followed that tutorial and as soon as I flashed the ROM I downloaded I saw the Telstra splashscreen.

I am afraid I am a noob here on that. I had just followed the tutorial to the T and created a FTF that can be flashed with flashtool. Been using this for the past two weeks when ROMs can't be rooted/CWM can't be installed.

All I'm saying is that I followed the tutorial word for word and VipeR lx is right when he clarified things up that if your XZ is branded you would still get the downloaded ROM branded, just like what happened to me. Luckily there's a unbranded ROM for Australia which made it possible for me to de-brand my XZ. I do have the Telstra ROM saved so if ever I had to send it away for warranty repairs I can always flash the Telstra ROM back.
Me too. I used the update services software to download. After downloading the file and flashing with flash tool, there is no indication that this firmware is linked to any Telco.
Maybe if someone can flash and report?

Once the screen dims and try to go off, the demo video starts up. I don't know how to get rid of this even after I flash my original FTF's system :'(

Strange, bro.
Did you even manage to get into the setup? 5 steps to setting up your phone? I had that demo video. but after setting up the phone, all is well.
I had tried this firmware a few times after installing ROMs that are based on the 434, as somehow, I lose 3G with these ROMs. I couldn't even root the phone with the method described.
So I flashed back to the stock 350 firmware and root the phone and install the CWM recovery in the phone again.

I wanted to debrand as mine is attached to SingTel. I flashed this over my existing setup and didn't do a wipe. Now it has screwed up that I can't turn the screen off at all (finally I killed that some demo application and off now). Luckily didn't loose data except the home screen setup.
I will have to reinstall the whole thing tonight.

I think this is unbranded as the apps from M1 which I got this phone from is not present in the FTF after flashing with flash tool.

Who knows maybe the M1 apps in your phone was not integrated to the ROM and it was only installed on top. I can't really tell. I just know that when I did the tutorial I still got the Telstra ROM.
Also using the Flashtool you have a choice of wiping data if you don't untick the boxes before you flash.
EDIT:
There is the
(FTF) C6603 10.1.A.434 Cust ID 1270-1412_R6A Singapore available in that thread. The handset apparently is from M1 so I'm not sure if it's branded or not.

No don't remove the thread. If you didn't get M1 apps after following that tutorial then the M! apps must have been installed on top of the ROM that's probably why you never got any M! apps when you reflash.
Keep this thread it's always a contribution that you made and plenty of people will have use for it.

I flashed with flashtool and there is option not to wipe.
This firmware is confirmed not the generic as I have seen this SI/CDA number in the demo set. Retail sets (so far I've seen) begins with 1270, but if you notice this begins with 1272. Moreover, none of the retail sets will run the "demo" video when you start your phone and worst is that it won't let your phone to switch off the screen.
I don't know how you ended up with this firmware on your handset!

Hi All,
I have T-Mobile branded C6606 and have been considering rooting so that I can flash a c6603 stock ROM. I know the bootloader is locked on the device but here is my question:
If I flash a stock ROM and basically make the phone act as a 6603, will I get updates directly from Sony for example will I be able to upgrade to 4.3 or 4.4 via PC Companion or OTA ? I'm assuming this is with the bootloader remaining locked.
Also, assuming I decide to root and flash using a stock ROM are there any CONS...ie. Wifi or NFC issues ?
Thanks!

No issues. It will perform as a 6603. Only thing you will loose is wifi calling... I'm typing this from a 6606 right now on rooted 4.3 ES firmware.
You need to flash a (.67) or (.74) rom first, root it, install recovery, and then you can install a (.569) pre-rooted rom. Make sure you set your apn correctly for mms functioning.
You can use this as your final update for now:

I'm curious though, why is it that I should install the older (.67 or 74) ROM first ? I was actually planning to root, install CWM then simply find a Generic unbranded ROM to flash.

Im on existenzv5 locked bl rooted c6606 tmobile running great
So I flashed a stock 6603 ES ROM (10.31.A.2.67), been testing it and no issues so far. Happy to get rid of some of the T-Mobile bloatware.
Since 4.3 is already out for the C6603 , I was expecting an OTA or PC Companion to prompt me to update to 4.3 (shows 6603). Am I missing something here ?
I haven't rooted or done anything else apart from the ROM Flash. To be honest I don't have much desire for Custom ROMs or need Root access, just a desire to get faster updates and less bloat. If I can get a stock 4.3 on the device I may leave it like that. The most important thing for me though is to just be able to get updates.
Wondering if I should start a new thread in the QA forum or if a MOD can simply move this one.

There may or may not be an update available depending on the customization number you flashed. Either way, if you flashed a stock ftf then you will receive updates as they become available for your customization number.

You can try rebooting and checking again. Did you ever perform a factory reset? If not, do it.
Also, the baseband really doesn't need to be excluded. I've seen no benefits in keeping any of the t-mobile garbage.

There will be some folder you may have to delete from PCC data because it is cached and PCC will still see your device with the old customization. It is explained in that 1st post.

I took your advice and reflashed with baseband and also did the factory reset. The baseband left me with weak LTE in areas where I normally have full bars. In the end the update still didn't show allowing me to move to 4.3. I ended up just flashing the 4.3 ES rom that you linked to and have been liking it so far.
I really would like to have a better understanding of how/why I wasn't getting the update prompts.

I actually looked into this, but at one point after flashing but didn't have any folder to delete. Also, after the last flash I connected to a brand new laptop that had never had PCC installed or seen the phone before and the result was the same. No update could be found.
I appreciate the suggestions so far, I'd love to know what else I can try though as I'd like to have the phone get regular updates independent of T-Mobile.

Here are the steps I am taking to root my tmobile c6606 on a c6603 4.3 rom. It has been unsuccesful. I would like help.
I have used flashtool-0.9.13.0-windows tool.
I use it to successfully install Xperia Z (C6603)_10.4.B.0.569_Generic ES tft.
It is fully fuctional and works with no problems.
However.
I have tried the Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v33 tool that roots the C6606 succesfully when I have the original factory rom installed.
BUT when I have this 4.3 Generic ES rom installed it will not root. It says I need to enable USB Debugging. I do that. The the phone shows it is in that mode, but the root program will not see it in that mode.
Therefore, rooting can not occur..
What do I do?
Id like to root so I can install my special apps and remove bloat.
Thanks

You cannot root any 4.3 rom directly without unlocking the bootloader. As you have a C6606, you cannot do that.
You will have to downgrade to a 4.2.2 rom, root, then flash a prerooted 4.3 rom.
This information is readily available all over this section, so a search probably would have got you the information you needed.

Well after i stupidly got my phone soft bricked, I downloaded and flashed stock 4.3 rom correct to my region. Everyhting worrked fine after that i was able to call and send messages etc. But today i tryed to root the phone, With multiple ways actually, CF-root, thru CWM. but there was some problems, Bit off topic but after i flashed the CF-root i was rooted, But SuperSU asked me to update binary and after that i wasnt rooted anymore :/
and the problem thru CWM that it didnt root at all, Dont know what the problem was...
*knox warranty gone, didnt even know about such a thing before i searched abit...*
Well anyway now i flashed stock rom again, The same that i flashed earlier and now my phone is buggin with the sim card, It will detect it but its not detecting the network or twhatever it it, So its only allowing Emergency calls...
i have tryed pulling the sim out of the phone etc but hasnt worked
I was wondering it it can be phones fault, For the trys of rooting etc.. Or can it just be the sim cards or the providers error?

Well i checked my IMEI behiind the battery, Its the same that is in the *#06#,
And the IMEI Shows on the setting/about device/status, I can see IMEI and IMEI SV, But stuff like IP address, Network are Unkown and Service state is Out of service. Im bit confused what the problem here is
I would try your SIM card on another phone just to make sure, you can usually get a duplicate for free or cheap if thats the issue.
If the SIM card issue is working fine, get hold of the PARAM and WIPE images for your model and run them through Odin, then flash a recent firmware.
At least that is what I would try, but I'm not sure if knox bootloader is going to make it easy for you or not.
Maybe someone else knows more?
Good luck!!!

The sim card cannot be dublicate, As when i bought the phone, Around 4-5 months ago, The normal sim card got changed to the micro-sim that fits into s3.
Im not totally sure what u mean with the "get PARAM and wipe images", and i have flashed the stock rom couple of times, Heck i even ran the Kies FW recovery thingy that does the same thing.. and yea, That ****ing Knox...
WIPE and PARAM are images similar to the firmware ones you used to flash your phone. Except that what they do is completely wipe and re-partition (Think of it like formatting your PC before you install Windows) and then configure the device for the first time. This way we can make sure that it isn't an issue with the way that the firmware was installed (issues can arise if you flash too many times or different roms / versions of android are installed without wiping in between) I don't own an S III so unfortunately I can't help you finding them, though I'm sure someone else will be able to link you to them...

Thanks for the quick replys.
SO installing stock rom thru odin, OR Kies both can fail? if i understood correctly.
Does the region matter on those?
You are most welcome I hope I've been of some help. And yes, there is always a possibility of something going wrong if you do not wipe first (Not so much if you're upgrading from the same rom and android version eg: TouchWiz stock 4.2 to 4.2 , but yes if for example 4.2 to 4.3 or from stock to custom, or vice versa etc..)
As for region, if the model is the same there really shouldnt be an issue, at most you'll have a wrong CSC which would involve having to configure APN settings manually.... But to get that far first we'd need the phone to register on the network.... Which yours isn't doing at the moment... I do not think this is the problem.

So, If id now do full wipe/factory reset, And then flash the stock rom again, Whould it be possible to get the settings back, Or are they now kinda saved thgere?
I think its worth a try..
A wipe will clear all settings, but if you use the right region most will be configured automatically for you (I'm assuming you're refering to the APNs)

Did not help, Im at the same point as before, And it should be the right region as Kies also detects the same region code.
Well, Yea, akward....
I dont know if this did it or was it just the derpyness of me trying something. But what ever
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1946915
I flashed this param.bin, But It did nothing, as i guessed tbh.
Then i went to the access points, And then i realised the network operators. I had to register into network there
Yea, Well it is fixed now,
Fix: The problem was probably it just removed me fromt he networks when i tryed to root. And then iu need to register into network again.
Thanks for alesa1988 for quick awnsers
You're welcome, I'm glad it is now resolved

NOOB!!!
Been trawling the forums and have got a long way but stuck at this point...
Lost IMEI and baseband, as mentioned in other threads, when in 4.4.2 (NH3)
Odin flashed down to 4.3 (ML2), flashed modem to mf1. Rooted, unlocked, now got imei/baseband back ( and using UK sim ) but bugs mean no sound, video rooted or unrooted (as reported by Devo7v in i537 guide). So i have to upgrade back to 4.4.2...
Is there a way to do this without losing IMEI/baseband fix ? Can I keep mf1 modem in 4.4.2? Tried to flash mf1 modem in 4.4.2 but would get odin fail (also reported in thread)
Would Restoring efs (just backed up in 4.3, not before) solve issues? What is best way to restore efs on i537? EFS pro won't recognize phone (in any mode).
Sorry if this has been answered but have looked EVERYWHERE!!!
PLEASE HELP!!!

I would just Odin back to NE3 after fixing baseband.
Select CSC then Phone then PDa and flash. hope this works.
With that order! If that fails flash 4.3 again and select CSC then Phone then PDA!
@TransformixS4 Thanks for prompt response will try tonight!!

Does it matter that I'm rooted? Understand I will probably lose root on upgrade, just wondering if that'll be an issue...

@slamdunkthepunk
To recover from lost IMEI when trusting YouTube video to unlock you need to access the *#9090# menu. The method described in YouTube video poison settings in phone that a reflash of stock ROM can't fix.
Here's a similar experience on same phone i537 and how to recover:

I have a c6606 but I flashed the stock c6603 software that's 4.4.4 because T-Mobile didn't update past 4.3 but since I've flashed the c6603 software when I'm on the phone it will randomly reboot. I didn't wipe data when I flashed and I checked to exclude baseband flashing could this be the problem? Also my T-Mobile mobile hotspot was removed and I can't get into mobile hotspot without downloading a third party app there is no seeing for it in my phone should I reflash or something can anybody give a little advice

It seems you're giving yourself the answer to the question. Try to install this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/development/stock-update-to-10-5-0-230-t2761629.
Disclaimer: I do not own the C6606 version so please read carefully the thread in the link before doing anything. I hope it works good for u.
Ohk I'm reading it but to perform this I need to root first because I'm completely stock all I did was flash c6603 firmware with flash tool this thread is saying flash the flashable zip in recovery first but I'm gonna keep reading and see if I can figure this out thanks for the info bruv
