[Q] How to root stock .257 firmware if bootloader is locked? - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, sadly I have rooted the Z1 within .534 without unlocking the bootloader and didn't realize that update via PC Companion overwrite the root access. I updated to .257 with PC Companion and then I have a Z1 updated, unrooted and without being able to be downgraded to .534 as I have read in other threads.
Can anyone help me to root the device in this condition? Suggestions?
Thanks

Download a .534 firmware FTF here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2469191
Flash it with Flashtool : http://www.flashtool.net/index.php
Root with Kingo Root
Update to .257 with OTA

You follow the either one of the 3 or 4 guides that are in the general section.
PS, you can always downgrade no matter of whether you are rooted or not.

You can use the procedure described in this thread. You will need to downgrade to .310 to root your phone for the TA backup before unlocking the bootloader.
Or you can may be follow this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2590174
so you don't need to unlock the bootloader...
I upgrade my 5503 following this thread and everything is fine.:good:

[Q] Downgrade from 4.3 (C6903) Xperia Z1 14.2.A.0.290 Generic NCB (Unbranded/Nordic)

Hi everybody!
This is my first post as I usual solve my problems just by reading others people posts.
I recently flashed my z1 (C6903) to 14.2.A.0.290 Generic NCB (Unbranded/Nordic) (4.3 android) as I didn 't like the DE(german version) with the bloatware. I rooted it before with kingo but lost my root after flashing the NCB version I'm now looking for a way to downgrade to a older ncb version root it with kingo and then do a ota upgrade to keep the root. Does anybody have the FTF therfore and what boxes should I pick I want to keep my data or should I let it do a full wipe do a backup with sony companion or the sony app on the phone and than play it in after finishing the downgrade root and OTA? Pls help me I' m completly lost and I'm really missing the root.
Thanks in advance to everyone!!!!!

My experience is that if older FTFs aren't in the mega thead (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2469191), then you won't find them anywhere. Mega thread only has a 290 FTF for NCB, so you may be SOL if you want to strictly downgrade to 534 NCB and then OTA to 290. However, as long as you flash a generic FTF, you won't get carrier bloatware.
If root is what you'd want, I'd go with [NUT]'s pre-rooted 290: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2572988. It's the easiest way to get full root.
..or you follow the instruction step by step here on page 2, post #16 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588331&page=2

Here's a link to the correct FTF (note that it is .257, so follow the guides regarding rooting .257, or if you're savvy, install a .534 kernel, root with Kingo, install a .257 kernel again, then OTA)
https://mega.co.nz/#!WkolCYjB!IIXR5SgAn-J05MXmG26GYyi2P2sYcF34Avn73z5Y9n0
It is incorrectly named Generic SE, but it is the right customisation ID for Generic NCB (1276-9897).

Sony PC Companion can make a backup for you, I don't know how much will be saved as in order to flash a 4.2.2 ROM you'll need to wipe your data partition.

257 can't be rooted manually, only 534 can be rooted by vRoot/Kingo/etc.
Since you are downgrading, you must wipe data and will lose everything you don't copy off the phone.

No, it's not possible to upgrade 257/290 and keep root. You asked about downgrading, not rooting 290. If you have an unlocked BL, go read the dev thread on how to root 290. With a locked BL, you'll need to get rooted 534/257 and then flash a custom pre-rooted ROM from the dev forum.

290 pre-root options: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z1/development

Actually with OTA you keep semi-root, but in essence you're right. Actually I think the easiest solution is to flash a stock .534 ROM, root it with Kingo, grab TA partition backup, flash .290, unlock bootloader, flash a recovery, do a proper root, reflash stock boot partition, flash TA backup.

Yeah, true, I've just stopped telling people about partial root since full root is possible. Those who don't know to ask don't know what it means anyway, and it's just simpler for everyone involved to leave it out.

<SOLVED>[Q] TA backup with firmware 14.3.A.0.683 (Sony Xperia Z1 C6903)

Hi,
I'm trying to backup the TA on my Xperia Z1 (C6903) running the stock KitKat firmware (14.3.A.0.681). From what I understand though, you need root to backup the partition, but to get root, you need an unlocked boot loader. I've seen a few tools that roots without unlocking the boot loader, but I need to downgrade the firmware to at least Android 4.2.2. Downgrading requires an unlocked boot loader.
Are developers working on a root-and-unlock tool for 14.3.A.0.681? Is there already a tool out there?
Thanks in advanced. Sorry for my arrogance.

You do not need an unlocked bootloader to get root and or to downgrade. Although yes, you would have to downgrade to 4.2 to get root. Just use flashtool to downgrade and pick a software to root

Just a couple more questions. Any suggested 4.2.2 and 4.4.2 firmwares to flash (if you can, link them here)? To root 4.2.2, do I simply click on the unlock icon shown in link?

I've used vroot 1.7.3 english and everything installed fine. However, when I installed the Root Checker app from Google play it reads "Sorry, this device isn't properly rooted."
Here's what I did / planning, in order:
1) Downloaded C6903 14.3.A.0.681 Global 1277-2880_R5C
2) Downloaded 14.1.G.1.534 downgrade FTF [NUT]
3)Pasted the 2 FTFs in the Firmware Folder under Flashtool
4)Flashed 14.1.G.1.534 downgrade FTF [NUT] using Flashtool from Androxyde (latest version)
5)Installed vroot English (1.7.3)
6)Clicked on the Root button. Phones reboots twice
7)After phone first start I was greeted with an error message from "Kingsapp".
8)Installed Root Checker from Google Play
9a)"Not properly rooted" <-- I'm right here
9b)If "root successful", proceed to flash C6903 14.3.A.0.681 Global 1277-2880_R5C
I did some research and people are pointing everywhere, vroot, bin4ry's rooting method, 360 (can't install).
Did I lose my TA partition? My X-Reality goodies?
What am I doing wrong?

Okay so now you are still on .534 firmware right? Do you have usb debugging on?
And also try rooting with bin4ry if vroot doesn't work for you.
Don't worry, you won't lose x-reality unless you've unlocked your bootloader

[Q] Most recent root method.

Hi,
I was on .234 rooted and decided to build my own FTF using the .270 update I downloaded from PC Companion with the PRFCreator tool. I added the .zips for Recovery and SuperSU and flashed the resulting FTF with Flashtool but my phone does not have root and SuperSU wasn't installed. I tried to run the root command in Flashtool but it failed.
Can anyone tell me what the best, most recent method for rooting is as the chinese tools in the sticky seem a bit outdated. What are the main barriers to root and how can I do it without having to loose all my data?

How are you able to download the FTF file directly from the Sony PC Companion app without it being flashed straight to your phone?
The best method still for Z1 is too downgrade to 4.4 and root it then pre-root upgrade, there is the Chinese root but not sure if that works properly on Z1 yet.
Just root using KingRoot app it's just one click and you're rooted I tried it on my C6903 (.242)
