You should give us link to try.
I found something on YouTube and if you meant on something like this YOUTUBE LINK then YES it can and it's very smooth.
If you have link for short movie to download, send me PM and I will try for you.

Stock Player can't
What he is asking for is if the Z1 can play Hi10p encoding. This is the latest encoding using 10bits instead of the normal 8bits (you can google for the rest of the features). You can go to doki.co or bakabt.me (BBT usually has larger files since it's full series, but if you're afraid of getting called the P word, everything in BBT is unlicensed in the states) and get one of the episodes there. The episode name will have 10bit or Hi10P or H10P in the name.
I don't watch movies on my device, but I have a few downloaded and waiting to be transferred off. I tried and the stock player and ES media player can't play these videos. I'm not sure if there are any 10bit player in the play store either.

I'm sure Z1 can handle that video but the question is do we have software and codex for that.
I really don't know that - so sorry - can't help here.

Also watch a crapton of anime, Z1 plays 720p Hi10p videos fine using MX Player.
Struggles with 1080p Hi10p, but the file I tested had a very high bitrate and it was streamed from my PC.
Only works with software mode though, so battery takes a bit of a hit.

[Q] Movies

Hello
Soon i am going on vacation and want to get some movies to have them while travelling etc... Where do you guys get movies for your mobile from, or should i rip them (prefer to download the right resolution ofc )
Is there some site with torrents or anything alike around?
I know mobilism has a movie gallery but most of them are uploaded on uploading sites which are far worse than torrent files...
Hope this post is not against the rules
tnx for the help
rip them off your own DVD collection
The only resolutions I have tried are 720p and 1080p. Both have worked fine.
Also the only container type I have attempted is mp4 with AAC audio and H.264 video. It worked fine.
y but cba to rip all the movies its easyer if some collection is online already
it seems ill just need to rip them, tnx anyways

best hd/ video player?

I tried rock player lite, but it doesn't play hd vids very smoothly; I transcoded Star Trek 2009 to mp4, and its very jerky and doesn't play smooth..
Any other video players that you guys might recommend?
thanks so much; lovin' this damn thing!!!

The best I have used so far is MoboPlayer (http://moboplayer.com/moboplayer_en.html) You have to use the medium version since the Xoom doesn't support Neon. This is the only player I could get to play 720p video smoothly. Hope that helps and if you find something better let me know!

I tried this and it works the best out of all i have tried. Make sure you get the medium version and not the Neon version.
unfortunately, mobo player does not recognize .m4v files, which is how I have saved my ripped Blu rays..

tried renaming them as mp4? usually does the trick for me if i recall. the two formats are almost identical.
I have had no trouble using the stock video player to play 720p videos encoded into a mp4 file. I would go that route and use the hardware decoding

thanks; doing that, and encoding 720p instead of 1080p seemed to fix it!
Any news on the android version of VLC??

The Xoom can easily handle 720p videos. I haven't tested 1080. It all depends on how you encode the video.
From what I've seen on the threads and in personal experience, there are really only two viable players: the Android native video player, and RockPlayer. Between these two, you should be able to enjoy all your video, provided you have encoded them correctly.
I hate converting videos, thats why i use mobo. Its played all my videos great. Much better than Rock played, vplayer advance same spot.
found one!
Vital player will play everything for me, including 1080p videos that I have encoded with Handbrake..
Loving this thing!!
rockplayer and the stock video player handles blu rays i convert with handbrake very well
I tried different players and playback quality is mostly the same. Perhaps minor, but I like the interface in mVideoPlayer - posters, IMDB links etc.
I have said it before and Ill say it again. Your best bet for video is to get PLEX. As of this writing it is still not Honeycomb ready. As a beta tester working with the devs, I can tell you that its playing video like a champ on my Xoom and a release to public should be coming very soon.
what good is telling us that here if WE can't download it yet?
you should wait until its released before you keep posting that here..

Two reasons really.
Lets face facts that the majority of us here own a Xoom because we are Android nerds and already own a Android phone. So purchasing Plex on your phone will give you access to it on your Xoom when its available. In truth you can install it on your Xoom already, the video just does not work in the current release.
Two there is no quicker way to know about its updated release for Honeycomb compatibility then to have it already installed and letting the market inform you.
Lastly this is a community page and a community OS, so keeping others informed is kind of the way things work. If you have a problem with someone telling you that there will soon be an app released that will do X, but you cant have it yet, mumble quietly to yourself, but keep it to yourself.

Does it play local files yet or all still streamed from server? Also, any clue of an ETA?

Do you mean using stock player in hardware decoding mode?
How do you do this? I can't find the options for the stock player.
Thanks
QQPlayer is free and doesnt want any special permissions
Hi,
I use QQPlayer. It plays everything I have thrown at it and it does not need any special permissions to install.

I'm still using Mobo. I just played a 1080p Meet the Fockers avi I got from a torrent site over HDMI on my big TV and everything was perfect.

[Q] Can Xperia Z handle 10-bit video ?

I have galaxy S3 and it can only handle 10-bit video @ 480p
However, 720p 10-bit videos runs slow and laggy.
I wonder if Xperia Z can handle it without any slowdowns. Can some here test it ?

I should be able to answer your question in one hour. Stay tuned!
EDIT:
Unfortunately, when I tried to playback 720p 10bit video standard video player refused to play it and mxplayer opened it in software mode, refusing to use the H/W and H/W+ modes. In software mode I'd say it is watchable but is not perfectly smooth.
played a 10bit mkv through standard player, no lagg, smooth, while this was lagging using stock rom.. im now on tuddzrom , not sure if that fixed it lol but smooth nonetheless
Ok thanks guys
Galaxy S4 is supposed to have faster CPU than Xperia Z , so hope it will play it 10-bit 720p video smoothly.
5.1 channel mkv?
Guys,
On my Note II i can play 1080p mkv no problem, but the DDS (dolby digital 5.1) audio will not play.
I am switching to Z on Monday and am wondering if the 5.1 audio plays on mkv formats as well. Could u check that?
THanks!
1080p FLAC works flawless depending on the bitrate
720p no problems at all
Problem comes with 10bit. I think we all know that we want to watch our anime along the way. Most episodes are Hi10p.
I am not sure but how different is the Nexus 7 CPU against the Xperia Z? I can use the HW and HW+ decoder for 10bit episodes and they run smooth. But somehow the XZ refuses to use the HW/HW+ decoder. Might be, cause it's still new? No real HW support from MXPlayer yet?
I have no idea tbh.
Use MX Player's latest Test Build from here : https://sites.google.com/site/mxvpen/translation/test-build
It's a huge improvement.
Now my XZ (on 4.2.2 official ROM) can play 720p 10 bit anime very well

I just tested some Blu-Ray/Hi10p/FLAC files, only 720p were playing fine. 1080p is still no go, but I guess that's fine

I guess 10 bit 1080p is asking too much
If we talk about Xperia Z hardware capabilities to decode 10-bit encoded video, the answer is no, it will never allow it. Currently there isn't any smartphone being able to decode 10-bit enconding.
On the other side, software decoding is based on how well the algorithm is developed rather than the device itself. It's pure CPU processing power + how optimized in the algorithm so that might change with time. And from what I've seen reading this post MX video player is working on it.

I don't care if it's only software decoding. Even on PC, 10 bit video can't be played with hardware acceleration, right? (CMIIW) ^_^

[Q] Can HTC One handle 10-bit video ?

I have galaxy S3 and it can handle 10-bit 480p, but 10-bit 720p video runs slow
Is HTC one powerful enough to handle 10-bit 720p video smoothly ? Can someone test it ?
Note: The default media player probably won't play 10-bit videos. So, download MX Player from google play, and make sure you use S/W (software mode) for playing 10-bit video.
Also, you can easily find countless of 720p 10-bit animes if you use google. So, please someone test it for me.
Anyone ?
I doubt many of us are familiar with 10 bit video. Try asking the int'l One forum, they already have the phone available.

[Q] Can it play high bitrate 1080p videos?

I am thinking of getting this phone. I would like to know if it can play high bitrate MKV/MP4/TP/TS video files (like music videos of 1GB size). Anyone tried this yet?
I would also like to know if it can handle 10bit videos as well though I think this will be based on the app/player....
Thanks!
4sashi got loads of HQ music videos which you can try
Video quality in this phone is satisfactory. I'm playing some 1080 HD videos/movies with MX player and Movies app with no problems so far... Out of topic..can you give me a site which has HD quality pictures?
Sorry i dont have a site for that. Would you mind if you download something from the bluray mvs from 4sashi and try it out in sp?
cmon guys
need your help on this
The 1080p videos recorded by the SP are of 20mbps bitrate (much higher than most movies/tv episodes) and they play back just fine
I watched some game of thrones 1080p episodes, 2.2gb in size each and they played fine

but 1080p 60fps videos are freezing and bouncing on stock player
i am really interested to know if it can handle music videos (1 gigabytes in file size)....
I have a couple of TS and TP files with file sizes of 1-2 gigabytes and based on media info, they have an average of 36000kbps bit rate. (note they are only music videos of around 3-5 minutes in length)
i am just too lazy to convert my video files thats why i am asking this.
even my e8400 is suffering from frame skips when trying to play them :cyclops:
anyways im off to check this phone for myself hehe

2-Support 720p at 60fps without lagging both on MX player or Stock player (Bravia might not working,Work only on first 10 second)
