Note: I would have posted this in the developement forum as I've tried following both threads. (These: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2271909 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2128848). Everything works okay as far as CMD entries etc, and it boots up in fastboot, at which point KF First Aide says <waiting for device>, and the Kindle is just sitting on the fastboot logo. No errors or anything, it just sits there.
Holding power on the Kindle shuts it down, and it will boot up normally. But it doesn't look like flashing back to 7.2.3 is working, because it stills shows up as 7.4.6. (It is already rooted as well.)
Not really sure how to proceed from here, I'm trying to install CM10.2 on it ultimately.
Edit: Also, I did already make backups.
Sounds like the fastboot drivers aren't installing, once you see the fastboot logo, check the device manager for a device with a yellow triangle, if there is one its probably called tate-pvt or something like jem or otter2 then use the drivers in my signature by right clicking the device, hitting update drivers, and pointing it to where you extracted my drivers and once the the device is I stalled it should continue.

Looks like that was it, it's working now. Now to install PAC Man ROM.
Thanks!
Okay new problem.
"6. Wiped /sdcard, can't reboot from recovery: You thought you had the ROM file on the sdcard, but you didn't, and wiped everything, so without a ROM image, you can't boot into system.
Solution: Put the ROM file where your ADB binary is (usually inside platform-tools folder in Android SDK directory) and rename it rom.zip. On the device, boot into TWRP, select Advanced, then ADB Sideload. Connect device to PC. From here, run "adb" and hit Enter to check for your binary version, if it's anything lower than 1.0.3.0, you need to update the binaries by re-installing the latest Android SDK. Once the device is in sideloading mode and is connected to the PC, type "adb sideload rom.zip" and hit Enter. Now you'll find the ROM on the sdcard, flash, and you're done."
I'm at this issue, and when I run adb it opens a cmd window which does something(lots of text scrolls), and then goes away(cmd then closes.). So I can't type the command in. Any ideas?
Well adb is a command line tool, so if you want to use it you need to run it from a command prompt...

You need to actually type command in your run box to open a dos prompt. THEN you can do the adb commands. Don't just try an adb command from your windows run box. It will run adb without modifiers, give you the help screen and then quit because windows thinks the program ran and completed.

I got the chance to check out your DOS screenies.
There is no such command called sideload in some ADB versions. Here are the basic ADB commands.
3. Basic ADB commands
ADB push (sends files to your phone) -- adb push c:\example.apk /sdcard/example.apk
ADB pull (Receives files from your phone) -- adb pull /system/app/example.apk c:\example.apk
ADB install (installs application) -- adb install c:\example.apk
adb shell (Begins shell connection with phone)
adb reboot (reboots phone)
adb reboot recovery (reboots phone into recovery)
adb reboot bootloader (reboots the phone into bootloader/the white screen)
adb remount (remounts the system)
4. Commands to run while in ADB Shell
cd (changes directories) -- cd /system/app
ls (lists all files in the directory) -- cd /system/app
rm (removes files) -- rm /system/app/example.apk
cp (copies files) similar to cat -- cp /system/app/example.apk /sdcard/example.apk
cat (copies files) -- cat /system/app/example.apk > /sdcard/example.apk
exit (exits shell) -- exit

You have to make sure the ADB you have knows what the sideload command is.
Yep thank you guys! I got it working with that like LE gave me. Much appreciated!

You shouldn't nessasrily need fastboot to fix this, I'm assuming the drivers you don't have installed for twrp is the adb device, so try updating Ur drivers with this version of the drivers: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...php?p=44446906
Once the adb driver work you should be able to go I to twrp, hit advanced, then hit side load, and swipe to start side load, and with it plugged I to your PC put either a cm ROM or the stock rooted amazon ROM from android development into the same folder as your adb command, and run a line with this syntax in a command prompt: adb sideload myrom.zip
If that doesn't work you might be able to use adb push when not in side load mode but I haven't tinkered to much with twrp. If you must resort to using fastboot you shouldn't even need a factory cable in this case, as u can just go into twrp and hit reboot and tap bootloader, that should put you in fastboot. Hope this helps.

There I don't understand the part with sideloading a rooted stock or custom rom.
I hope that you can help me and thet you understand my question
EDIT: I have a factory cable mybe it's good to know for you.
Basically you put the file you want to flash in the same folder as adb unless your have adb in your system paths, and type "adb sideload filetoflash.zip". You still have to go into twrp before this and hit advanced, then hit sideload, then swipe the thing. Sorry if this seems repetitive, I'm not sure how to make it much simpler. If you can't figure out the side load just do what I would do, boot your kindle into twrp, and plug into your PC. Now with the file you want to flash to the kindle in the same folder as adb run "adb push filename.zip /sdcard/filename.zip". That should put the file onto the kindles sdcard, from there you can use the install button in twrp and choose the file.

Now it' said that the md5 file is missing... but I can't put them into one zip file, idk, do you now what I do wrong?
What do you need an md5 file for?

Hello all.
Was tinkering around with my KF- And accidentally wiped everything from my internal storage and system. When it boots up I get the blue KF logo and it stays stuck there- Can't boot into recovery.
ADB doesnt recognize it.
Have a fastboot cable.
How do I atleast push files to it /boot into recovery??
Many thanks.
To boot into recovery, after you power on the kindle, immediately let go of power and instead hold volume down usually only until you see the blue kindle logo. You can hold it longer if it makes ya feel better, it should then show the twrp logo and from there you can use adb to push the ROM of your choosing onto the device, here's a tutorial for that assuming you get into recovery. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2459498
I think I know how to get it into recovery from fastboot as well but if that doesn't work you'd just have to reflash Amazon's os with kindle fire first aid.

I tried all of this- Yes, I got it into recovery, It was recognized once by ADB and when I attempted to push the files from a flash drive it stopped working. Did the flash drive effect it or? It's also not showing up in device manager at all anymore after updating the drivers to ADB.

You cannot use a flash drive with the Kindle Fire HD as it's unsupported. You have to push it via command prompts on your computer. Follow the tutorial posted. try adb sidelad rather than adb push as the command.

Ah gotcha, I was thinking you were trying to use OTG with a flashdrive. So, I wonder if the problem was that you were trying to flash from a flashdrive or maybe you are missing the adb.exe file. The folder you put the ADB drivers in should have a file marked adb.exe as well. This is what will execute the pushing of the files. Make sure you point the drivers after it is in the folder you will CD from. If you don't have this then download the sdk package and in one of the tool folders you will have adb.exe. Just throw your drivers and ROM in that folder and that will be the folder you CD from.
So try this:
a. Make sure the ROM, ADB drivers and adb.exe are in the same folder.
b. Now go into device driver and manually (choose from your files) update the adb drivers and install them.
c. Once the adb is again recognised go into the folder with all the files and find a white area and hold shift and right click on the mouse and choose open a command window here.
d. Now enter the commands adb sideload name-of-rom-or-file-here-make-sure-to-add (.zip) - at - the-end /sdcard/
e. Give a minute for the process to show in the command window. You should start seeing some percentages as the file is pushed.

I attempted your method shown here and I get stuck at ADB drivers. There is no Kindle Fire device in my device manager and no bubble shows up when my kindle is attached to my pc. Could the cord be the issue? (I'm also running Windows XP, if that makes a difference.)
Also, I have drivers installed, but I'm unsure they're the correct ones. Where can I find them?

You won't have a pop up when your tablet is plug in at this point. In your device manage do you see a yellow triangle? There should be some android device in your device manager of some sort the pops up when plugged in. To test abd being recognized type adb devices in the command window and you should see your device show in the command window within 30 seconds.

Yes, my Kindle is still recognized.
i dont os on my kindle fire hd 7
I am having a mare with my kindle fire hd 7
It all starrted when anything google related kept crashing.
I tried to find solutions to the problem but no joy.
I then tried to install a different update to cyanogenmod nightly software but i then had a major problem with not being able to turn on my wifi.
I went into Twrp and tried to restore to my previous software but when my kindle re-booted i got stuck with a flashing teamwin logo
After trawling for days i managed to get out of that but im now in a situation where i dont have any OS on my kindle.
I have followed instructions on how to push files onto my kindle but despiote finding some files on my sdcard i am unable to reboot past the blue and white Kindlefire logo.
I have tried using the kindle un-brick java option but no joy either
I would really appreciate some help solving this proble as it is really driving me crazy.
I can still access twrp and i can access bootloader to get the orange and white fastboot logo.
If someone can help guide me through how i can get my kindle working again id really appreciate it
cheers

Hello all,
My Kindle Fire has been dead for a long time- by dead meaning un-used, no OS problem- As I'm trying to fix said issue, ADB will not take the Push/Sideload command. When attempted to execute the command, it simply gives me a string of what I can do with ADB. Any ideas?
are you trying to issue the command in recovery or when booted up?
when you type
Code:
adb devices
what does it say?

The device is in recovery when I use ADB. Just stuck on the boot screen, it's not recognized. ADB devices shows something like "ABC123 Recovery"
If it didn't accept the push command and gave you a list of commands then your command syntax was probably incorrect. Put a copy of the ROM in the folder the adb command is in and run:
Code:
adb push romname.zip /sdcard/
That should be the correct syntax.

Well I'm scratching my head here, unless maybe the filename was invalid I don't see why the list of commands are listing outside of typos and such, try a newer adb command maybe? You could always just download the SDK, or try the one in a tutorial I made I posted in a zip file, it should be fairly recent, just look at topics I made and you should see one about what to do when you can only boot into twrp, that's where in boosted it, and don't worry I haven't made that many topics so it should be easy to find.

I spent about 6 hours yesterday trying to root my Kindle Fire HD 7" tablet using various methods. I've searched numerous posts and tried several ways with no success.
I believe my ADB drivers are working properly because I am able to reboot the tablet from adb successfully. And in the Windows Device Manager it shows the "Android Composite ADB Interface" as my driver. But the command "adb reboot bootloader" just reboots back into the standard Home screen. And any fastboot command just gives me the "waiting for device" response.
I am on Version 7.4.8 of the firmware so I am trying to find a way to downgrade. I purchased it in November 2012 so it is the 2012 tablet. But every method I try just fails for one reason or another. So my question is, do I need a factory cable in order to get anywhere with this? Is it even doable with this version firmware?
Thank you in advance.
It is doable without a factory cable, the known rooting utilities people typically use are kindle fire first aid or binary's root. If you still can't get it to root, you can technically use a fastboot cable and kffa to restore it to a earlier is that os pre-rooted.

First thing you need to do is download the SDK package and set the paths correctly. Here is a video guide https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaNM-lt_aHw
Once the paths are set then you go to where your tools folder is and hold shift and right click on your mouse and left click on "open command window here." Then type "adb devices" and enter. When you get a device number you will have proof your ADB is working correct. The fact you see it in your device manager is a pretty good sign though.
The command you are looking for is (must be rooted to use this command otherwise you do need a factory cord.)
adb shell su -c reboot bootloader
This is the command to check the whether fastboot is working
fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product
This is the command to get you out of fastboot.
fastboot -i 0x1949 reboot
No fastboot commands will work until you download the SDK package and set the environment up. You should be able to get into the bootloader though.

I appreciate your reply and information very much. However, I downloaded the SDK package and installed it over a year ago and have used Fastboot for three other devices numerous times. I used Fastboot with my Asus TF300T to flash recoveries, and return to Asus Stock on more occasions than I can count. I am currently running CROMBi-kk 20140323 on that same tablet. Just to be certain, I connected it just now as I am typing this and verified several Fastboot commands. I also have a Huawei U8800-51 and a Samsung S4 Mini Duo GT-I9192 and have used Fastboot commands with them as well.
So I don't think it is an issue with the driver not being installed correctly, or the SDK not being present unless it is a version specific issue. But the Samsung phone is much newer than the Kindle so I don't think it is that either.
So I guess that puts me at an impasse until I get a factory cable. Or I can just forget customizing the Kindle.

You said you were using simply adb reboot bootloader right? Did you try the command I suggested? "adb shell su -c reboot bootloader" because if everything is set up right then this should work. CD from the tools folder.

Okay, got it working. Not sure what the problem was but I reinstalled SDK-Tools and Platform-Tools using the latest version of SDK. I was then able to use KFFA to root the Kindle and do a full backup. Not sure why it didn't work before the reinstall since I used ADB and Fastboot with my TF300T as recently as a week and a half ago while testing CROMBi-kk. Also verified they still worked with that tablet yesterday. Whatever the problem, it was specific to the Kindle.
One more question. Is it necessary to downgrade from 7.4.8 before installing a second bootloader and custom ROM? Or is that just a precautionary step because some people have had issues.

Its kinda just a precautionary measure, to put it plainly, your kindle will bootloop into recovery if you do the process on 7.4.8, so unless you know how to use "Adb push" its suggested to put the rom and gapps onto the kindle ahead of time so it will be there when you start to bootloop into recovery. On another note, you do need to downgrade the bootloader though, if you use hashcodes method, please check the md5sum on the bootloader file before flashing it to avoid a hardbrick. If you used the fireflash method i wouldnt worry about it, just make sure you check off the downgrade bootloader button above or beside the red warning text.
I had these same issues. The device wouldn't boot into fastboot while it was <waiting for device>.
I did this.
1. Used Many Root Tool to gain root. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
2. Placed the Rom and Gapps file on my sd card to be safe.
3. Used Anonymous.123's Tool up until the fastboot <waiting for device> malfunction. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2685414
4. Opened the Batch File for the Flasher Tool and copied and pasted the fastboot commands into a terminal with the Kindle in Fastboot. The only way I could get it in fastboot was "adb shell su -c reboot bootloader"
This will install the 4.2 bootloader so you don't have to flash back.
5. Profit 2nd Bootloader and TWRP
Good luck. You'll get it.
Sorry I Keep using the quote reply wrong. Havn't been on XDA in a while.
Okay, following Hashcode's procedure, I have successfully completed all steps up to flashing CM 10.2. TWRP works great and I made a backup from it. Not really necessary since I had backed up my Kindle three different ways and also copied all of my data to my PC as well.
But when I went to copy the TWRP backup to my PC for safekeeping I discovered that now I no longer have access to my Kindle from my PC's file explorer when I am booted into my Kindle. Prior to doing any of the steps here I could swap files back and forth without any problem. So how do I get that feature back??
I am running WIndows 8.1. This worked before I followed the procedures here. Also, when I pull files in adb where do they get stored??? Can't seem to find them.
Check the storage settings in CM you have to turn MTP storage in.

Hey there.
Was playing around with recovery and managed to wipe EVERYTHING (yeah...I know... )
I now have no OS and, obviously, when I reboot I get stuck in a bootloop.
My question is how do I flash a rom onto it, as there is no sdcard slot?
Thanks in advance!
adb sideload

you use adb from your adb / fastboot folder
TWRP / Advanced / Sideload
From PC adb /fastboot folder
you use
adb sideload name_of_rom.zip
or
just have TWRP loaded on the first screen and
adb push name_of_rom.zip /sdcard/
both ways the name_of_rom.zip needs to be in the same folder as adb / fastboot
1) Go back into recovery (power on while holding vol-, then select recovery). Plug in to PC and use "adb push <rom>.zip \sdcard\(rom).zip. Flash.
2) ADB Sideload (don't know how to use personally).
3) Go back into recovery and plug in a USB flash stick (either an OTG flash that will plug right in, or a microUSB-to-FemaleUSB cable and any USB flash stick or hdd).
I don't understand why people are so in love with microSD, when hardly anyone spends the cash on a 64gb card so the built in 32gb is just fine. If you need removable media, you have it in a $1.99 otg cable and any flash stick (or even a 3tb usb-hdd).

thank you all!!!
ok, tried using and OTG cable...but it just broke when unplugged a driver from it...oh well.
Then tried booting into recovery, plugged in the the to my pc, started cmd as admin. now I can't find the phone.
adb devices returns an empty list.
Also tried starting adb sideload, but it just gets stuck at Starting ADB sideload feature. left it for up to 30 mins and nothing...
EDIT: also tried updating TWRP recovery. now I have 2.7.0.0 and I still have the same problems...

Yeah adb will not list any devices as USB Debugging needs to be enabled and as you dont have a OS installed you won't be able to enable it. Luckily you have the latest version if twrp install so you can use adb sideload from twrp, I think it's in the advanced tab. Start up adb sideload and make sure your Rom.zip file is in the adb folder on your PC and then type, adb sideload <name of Rom>.zip, and the sideload will copy zip file over abd install for you.

a bit misleading it is, it wont come up with a msg started or something (in other words your waiting for nothing, its already running after the starting msg). Plug your phone in and start the adb sideload in cmd. Of course your system must recognize your phone else your will error out with no device found.

aaah, so I don't have to wait for it to "start". OK then, I'll try this.
When I plug in the phone, Windows makes the "New device" sound, so I guess it does recognise it.
so it's adb sideload ....zip ?

After you have started the sideloader server in twrp, just type adb sideload <name of rom>.zip and it will start sending the file. Dont bother trying to search for the device (adb device) as sideloader only understand the above command

doing just that:
start in recovery> start adb sideload (saying "starting adb sideload feature...") > plugged in (windows new device sound) > cmd with admin > navigate to sdk/platform-tools/ > and now I do the following command:
Code:
adb sideload filename.zip
and I get:
error: device not found

Whooo this worked!! Finally!!!
So I uninstalled all HTC stuff I had installed (drivers, sync manager, everything), then installed the stuff in the link.
Plugged in the HTC One in sideload mode and did
Code:
adb sideload filename.zip
and it worked!! Thanks again mate!
