Verizon G2 Insides - Verizon LG G2

Not sure if anyone has posted pics of the inside of this yet so I thought I would snap a few photos while doing a screen replacement on one. If so, forgive me. This was a very easy job. Took about 30 minutes. I will be separating the glass from the LCD on the broken one and installing a new digitizer, if I can find one. If anyone wants pics of that process, just let me know.

replaced it with one without the verizon logo? Nice. I kinda wanna do it just to get rid of the verizon logo. lol

Thanks so much for this thread! Can you post a pic of what the inside of the back cover looks like. I am trying to see where and how the Verizon model wirelessly charges. Thanks

Yea, Verizon could have made it a little less tacky by not putting their logo there.

You are very welcome. I had to return the phone to the customer so I no longer have it. These were the only pictures I took. The four gold pins to the right of the power button is where the wireless charging connects to the board. It is nothing fancy.
Today I am taking the broken glass off the LCD so I will post those pictures a little later. I found a digitizer but I am waiting on confirmation of its compatibility with the LS980 LCD. Hopefully the LCD's are the same between the models. It looks to be that way.

Nice I was wondering if you could do a replacement to get rid of the verizon logo. So the parts are the same? Think it is possible to get rid of the logo once the glass screen is off then replace it?

I am pretty sure the LCDs are the same between carriers. It looks like the only difference is the carrier logo on the digitizer. If you are just looking to get rid of the logo, it would be a lot of work to remove just the glass. Not to mention getting all the materials to do the job right, like the LOCA glue and curing light. There is not a mold available so setting the glass down will be done free hand. I just removed the glass from the LCD and will post pictures in a minute. The glass removal is a very tedious and difficult job because you can break the LCD really easy. I have done hundreds of glass only repairs on several different models so it takes me about 5-10 minutes to remove the glass. If you are not a patient person, do not try this!

I still need to clean the LOCA glue off the LCD, but that is what it looks like.

How much was it and where did you get it?

nice dood! how hard is it to get the back cover off? could you add a remove-able back piece from say one of the asian markets as to add swap-able batts??

Back cover is super easy. SIM, trace around thin bezel break, counter clockwise from SIM (digitizer down). I have found it easier and safer to apply back on from bottom to SIM, with digitizer down, right to SIM, left around to SIM.

How much room is between case and battery? Is it possible to leave back off and cover with a case? I have several palm touchstone chargers and an inductive coil. I'd really like to use the touchstone instead of a qi charger. I loved it with my gnex. The touchstone is a fantastic base/dock/car mount /charger.

The back cover is thin so I am pretty sure that you would not have any trouble leaving it off. Just use a thin pry tool and it will come right off.

I don't see why that wouldnt work but it might be kind of a hassle. The battery has 2 screws in it and the adhesive holding it on is real strong. Nothing is impossible though.

No, it doesn't just pop off. You need something thin to pry the snaps off around the edges. I went to the auto parts store and bought a feeler gauge set and rounded the end a little more. It is my favorite tool for working on phones. No heat is needed.

Anyone modded original Atrix lapdock with the bionic?

At&t has the original atrix lapdock for $50 ! Can the connectors be modded to allow the bionic to work on this or will it not work with the webtop os on the lapdock?

I just ordered one. If there's no way to mod it I'm sure you can unload it on craigslist or ebay.
*edit*
Found this thread over in the Razr forums, someone got the Atrix lapdock working with their Razr so I'm hoping it does work with our Bionics.
I've ordered one too.
There are a few positive reports in the photon thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1223032&page=12

Ya I read on that Photon thread that one guy has successfully modded the ports for the bionic and it works. Sweet deal !
I got one too. Although i'm not sure about the spacing, the main difference seems to be that the ports will be upside down for the bionic. Pop open a couple of screws (start on post 6 of the photon thread) and hopefully all we need to do is flip them around. A little trimming of the plastic around the connectors may be needed

Does the cradle need to be modded? If so, is it just at the openings for the ports? I'd be willing to do that, but not much more.

did you just walk in and get it for $50? because it's $99 online now for pricematching...
Walk in ATT store Monday morning just to check, they have one in stock, price ring up $299 I told them it's $50 online, they pull up website, override price I walk away with lapdock. To make it work with BIONIC you have to flip terminals around, when you turning terminals you will have to trim opening (self explained) .Also you have to trim cradle on the right side for the phone to sit straight. Total time 10 min Max.

got mine modded. here are some quick pics. too lazy to do good ones
webdock.
back, flipped out.
extended battery/case piece removed
on the side there's a little black adhesive sticker covering a screw. remove that and the screw on both sides.
like so.
popped open.
there is a metal piece holding the connectors in place. remove it.
note the rubber piece in between connectors.
the connectors come right out. I used a knife and trimmed the outside plastic so I could flip it.
I found the extended battery cover doesn't play well. I had to sand down the part where it actually docks.
and here we go!
I sanded the right side of the dock down, as the connectors didn't seat deeply enough.
that's all!

My Nexus 7 + Plasti Dip

After seeing two threads about painting the back of the N7, I decided I wanted to try some Plasti-Dip on my N7.
The Plasti-Dip came today, and I already had a green spraypaint I wanted to use on top of it (MTN Alien Mescalito Green).
So I decided I would test it out on cardboard first:
{

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
From left to right:
1. Plasti-dip, waited for it to dry, then applied spray paint on top
2. Plasti-dip, only waited for about 2 minutes, then applied spray paint.
3. Plasti-dip alone (yea it has some over spray on it)
Method 1 was just to make sure the Plasti-Dip is still easily removable with spray paint on top of it.
Method 2 was to see if I could save time by not having to remask after the Plasti-Dip dried.
Method 3 was just to test Plasti-Dip alone.
Eh so far so good. I proceeded to remove the back cover. Removed the buttons and the speaker grille as well:
Turns out the speaker grill is held on by three bits of melted plastic on the ends, the two visible pieces of tape, and some double sided tape:
Masked off a test area on my N7:
It turned out pretty nasty...
Dont mind the edges on the Plasti-Dip on that last picture. Its because I rushed to remove the masking tape after I saw the over spray seeping through the paper and lifting the masking tape (it seeped through the tape and ate the adhesive possibly?)
So yea, I heard Plasti-Dip is pretty porous when dry, its meant to create a grippy surface after all. But damn, I was hoping the "pores" wouldn't be so visible. Or I was hoping at least the pores would look more uniform. And no, letting it dry more wont make it better, it looked best when first applied ):
Good news is it all came off easily, left no marks behind. Speaker grill reattached easily as well. I just stuck it back on with the existing tape.
What next?
I'm wondering if I want to go through with it anyway. Going to find a piece of plastic I can test on. The cardboard was a good test to see how easily removable the paint is even on such a porous original surface, but I dont think its a good representation of how good it will look in the end.
I may also just wait for spare parts to be available and grab a back cover to paint with spray paint only, no Plasti-Dip.
All in all, this experiment cost me around $18. Plasti-Dip was $13 after shipping (local stores only had black) and the Alien paint was $5.
Was looking forward to seeing more pictures on the thread. I've worked with plastidip a lot on cars and random items and its great stuff. I like how if you don't like it it can easily be pulled off. The trick however is using a lot of small coats that add up which will make it thicker and easier to peel off or just thicker to get it to the consistency you're looking for.
Yea sorry to dissapoint haha.
This being my first try on the N7, I wanted to make sure the Plasti-Dip doesnt damage the rubbery finish of our N7s.
May try again this coming week, larger area, more drying time and more layers. To see if the porous texture improves.
Also, the Plasti-Dip peeled off VERY easily from the N7's back. And this is with me prepping the surface by cleaning it.
I have done plastic dip on car parts but no way I will put it on the back of the Nexus 7. It will make the tablet look cheap up close and it gets dirty easily.

Thats the beauty of plasdip always can go back to the original post up some pics if you give it a second shot!
Is the whole reason for this so you can paint it that terrible green colour? I don't get the point here.... N7 already has a really nice grippy and nice feeling back on it.
Now if it were a slick-as-glass polished plastic, I'd understand wanting to make it more grippy..
Yea the point was so I could paint it any color I want and revert back to original without any damage
The green IS deeper than I expected it to be though. Was looking for more of a light mint green color.
Double post.

Its not that bad. The outer coating which is the "leather like" feel is stained in some areas and peeled off in others. I tried to clean the stains and pulled the soft plastic coating off. It isn't very noticeable but you can feel the difference.

Was thinking $50 for the black one and $60 for the white one, because while its messed up, its very rare.

It's basically a substance you can use to dip a material into that covers it in a sort of easily removable coating. Take a look at it on YouTube, it's pretty neat.
Do at least 3 coats I've plasti-dipped a few things.

Looks like they dont want you talking on the phone with this thing..
On a side note: how do these things actually work? Does it constantly keep your phone in charging mode (until the external battery is drained)? or does the phone use your main battery, THEN switch to the external battery (or vice versa)? (sorry I have never used one of these on any phone...only seen them for crapple phones)
Just ordered one will update when tested out.....

I don't think it is a good idea using a case like this since it does nothing to protect the front glass edges of the Note 2 since it is snapping on primarily through the back. If you drop your Note 2 with this on, there is a good chance it will be against the front edges of the glass display and the notable amount of added weight increases the chance of cracking. It is much better to have a standard case that provides a lip and get a cheap $10 spare battery.

I went and checked out the one that ATT has(also listed on web site). It's $99 retail and the battery is in the face cover. The cover is extremely thick and heavy. To my surprise when I went to fold the cover close it wouldn't close. the battery/cover hits the screen of the phone. If you press hard it will lie flat but there is no clasp to close it. The guy at the store couldn't figure it out either. It seemed like a totally terrible design.

I have had a similar one for a while now , in white color costs about 30$ here in singapore , its quite good and sturdy , the drawback mainly is that you cant remove the stylus when you have this case on . but otherwise the case and the battery is good hope we get a better design with the option to remove the spen or hook it up somewhere in the case should also be fine.. instead of in the phone..
Found this by accident while searching for a charger. $25 + $2 shipping. Available in black or white. Built in kickstand.

I just ordered the case that the OP posted. I will let you know as well how I like it. It isn't the perfect design but for the basic functionality of having an extra battery built into the case is good enough for me. The factory battery is already pretty good if you know how to maximize the life of it. I won't use the case everyday, but only during those times when I really need a extra long battery life and don't have access to a charger. And for just under $25 it looks like a good deal to me
Thanks for sharing OP

I did a 10 minute search and couldn't come up with anything either. etradesupply had a listing, but currently out of stock. Maybe you could write an inquiry, or at least set an alert.

I may just put it on CraIgslist for like 140 bucks. Someone might want it for that or maybe a bit cheaper. Then I'll just get a new one haha.
That's not a bad idea. Sounds like something I would do. I like my stuff looking new. Someone would definitely buy it for that much.
I put a nasty one on mine a few months ago-bought a skinomi screen protector from Amazon and when it dried can barely see it-worked great and was $12
This scratch doesnt look like it can be buffed out completely but it can certainly be minimized with a little automotive, paint scratch remover paste. I would certainly try polishing it out before selling it off. Make sure you tape off the surroundings area and be patient, it will take a couple of applications, but it should buff down to the point where you could likely not notice it.
I agree. I use the stuff for my stove. Works better than auto products for some reason.

With all the price drops I've seen lately (I'm assuming they are clearing stock for the gg2) would it be worth purchasing another and keeping yours for spares (only if you don't plan on upgrading anytime soon). Could possibly even find a used one for not much more than Samsung is going to charge for a fix. Also saw on here that refurbished ones on ebay are going for 189. 137 for screen, 52 for the rest of the watch...

Thanks for the product suggestion. I am definitely going to polish it up and apply a screen protector to hide it. I'm already kind of used to it. I bought it to wear and use, I'm just a little disappointed at how easily it scratches. For the price they charge, they should include a $0.15 screen protector in the package imho.
This might be overkill but check out this post:

I believe it's like any regular cellphone glass replacement. You heat up the "crystal" until it's 180 degrees fahrenheit. Try not to fry the watch or band. Then gently work a corner of the glass away from the watch. It will slooooowly separate. Clean any remaining glue residue with rubbing alcohol. Apply strips of adhesive around the perimeter of glass. Press in new crystal and heat to 120 degrees to set the new adhesive.

Yeah I had seen that post. That's way more work than I'm willing to do lol. After putting a screen protector on it, the scratch isn't as noticeable. I will probably polish it up and apply a good protector and be done with it. I'm pretty rough on wearables so it's just a matter of time until I really smash it anyway. I just love the convenience of not having to pull my N3 out all the time. Hopefully it lasts long enough until I decide if I want the Gear2 or not.
Just curious. I thought the screen is made of Sapphire glasses. How did you get a scratch like that?

It's only Gorilla and I think the bulkiness of the device makes it a bit more vulnerable to impacts than a normal watch. Then again, I'm not as careful with a watch as I am with my phone. My own fault for not immediately getting a screen protector on it.

But I read the review it says a supphire. http://www.phonearena.com/reviews/Samsung-Galaxy-Gear-Review_id3441
Also specs from gsm stated it's supphire.
If it's not, I'm gonna get a screen film too......

To be honest I had read those same reviews which is why I never bothered to get a protector. After like 10 days I noticed some very faint scratching so I ordered a couple protectors. Next thing I know is BAM a huge ass scratch before they arrive in the mail. So whether it is sapphire or not I highly recommend a protector of some sort if you wear it a lot.

I don't think the M8 supports Qi charging. Too much metal in the case.
or did he mean a Qi case with a built-in plug that goes into the phone's micro usb port? like they have for iDevices...
I've been rocking one of these style receivers on my original One for months.

Fits between the phone and im currently using the slim bear motion case. It's awesome.
Plan on doing the same with the M8 once everything arrives.

Ask and ye shall receive.. Sorry for the grainy pics, they were taken with an iPad Air. It's just so convenient to drop n charge. Haven't had to plug in for months.
A little further info.. I've got a bestskinsever matte body skin on the back of the phone, so i don't scratch it up.
Then I've got the qi receiver, and a slim steel plate that came with a magnetic car mount, all between the phone and the case. Somehow it all fits. Just the skin, and the qi would be no problem at all.
On top of all that, the new qi receiver I've got isn't black plastic. It's actually aluminum as well. So it should blend in better. Just never felt like swapping it around on the M7, so I'll save it for my M8.

I've used a few.. Here's my thoughts on them.
The Choe off amazon. Works ok. Has a blue light that flashes when charging. Which may be annoying to some, especially next to a bed.
http://www.amazon.com/UPGRADED-Wire...id=1396035442&sr=8-1&keywords=choe+qi+charger
I've also got the Nokia Fatboy.. the pillow case style, that just uses the standard nokia qi charger.
I DO NOT recommend this at all. It worked ok for a few weeks, then started just going on off, on off, on off repeatedly. No rhyme or reason. My Nexus 7 still charges fine it seems, but nothing else. It also uses a proprietary charger and cable, which is stupid.
http://www.amazon.com/Nokia-DT-901-...8&qid=1396035546&sr=8-2&keywords=nokia+fatboy
And then my favorite... The PowerBot
It's by far the smallest, the rubber ring works to keep the device in one place. It has a green led all the time, and blue while charging. but it's not bright and wouldn't be a distraction at all. It seems to charge the fastest, and it also has an audible beep, so you know you've placed the device in the correct spot, without even looking. Going forward, I'll be ordering even more of these. I currently have one at work on my desk, and I've put one in the fatboy pillow I had next to my bed. Many colors available, and for the price, seriously can't be beat.
http://www.amazon.com/Compatible-In...=UTF8&qid=1396035781&sr=8-2&keywords=powerbot
Then as a bonus.. I also have one of the powerbot battery backup qi chargers in gray. It's also very cool and was cheap as hell at 30 bucks. You can keep it plugged in, then take it with you for true wireless charging. Only a 7000 mah battery inside, but it does pretty well 1.5 to 2 full charges give or take. Has a battery gauge, and makes the same beep that the other powerbot chargers do. Also includes another usb port to charge regular devices.

Don't see why not.. And that one inparticular would probably have the rubber flap so you wouldn't even see the receiver at all. The distance through the case I would think would be fine. I've got an otterbox defender at home, I can try it later.

However this seems very intriguing. Any inconsistencies in charge rate? Is there a large "sweet spot"? I've noticed that many cheap qi chargers/tags have a tiny charging spot.

I don't have that receiver l linked, it's disappeared. I just linked the most prominent one currently on amazon, as long as it's a type B.
Had issues with the Nokia charger but the powerbot has been flawless.
Wow, this looks like the answer to all my prayers! I'm coming from the G2 and always loved the wireless charging. I have tylt Wireless charger on my desk at work and it is the best thing ever. I've been looking for a handy desktop dock but they're all crappy little ones that I doubt will support the weight. Is this thing a sticker or can it be put on and removed? I like the look of the phone clean and usually stick with clear cases.

On the m7 the NFC was the plastic ring around the camera. And this sits in the center of the phone so it's never been an issue. NFC works just fine.
For joe above this, the ones I've used don't have any adhesive on them. So they could be swapped around no problem.

Pretty cool. Personally I can't own a phone like the One / M8 and put an ugly case on it and stick something to the back of that beautiful metal, but I get it :good:
