Why does the *228 (or any similar activation code) not work on rooted devices, even if you use the regular dialer? I have a Droid 1, but don't want to root it because I'm probably switching from Verizon to PagePlus when my contract is up. Any ideas?

Should work. Depends on the ROM I guess. I have my D1 on PP and just did their *22889 code or whatever it is.

PP works. My complaint is just it's only EVDO, but I mean that's just because we have 4g now. I am running Steel Droid.

What is EVDO? I had Steel Droid, so that's good to hear. Thanks!

I've been doing a lot of research on this but I'm still coming up short on a few answers.
I'm considering purchasing a Droid 3 but here's my particulars:
My personal service is V-dub. Business service is AT&T. Assuming I unlock the Droid3 can I use the V-dub service while I'm stateside and leave the AT&T SIM on-board the device? If so, is it possible to switch between AT&T/VZW service via software?
When I'm traveling international would I be able to switch to the AT&T SIM service without racking up mad billz on the VZW side of the house?
ANyone with some experience on this would be appreciated. If I can't do all this with one device then I'm leaning to buy a Nexus S.
I wanna say you can because your phone allows you to switch between GSM/Global/CDMA.
I believe this can work with the XT860 model from canada, the US XT862 however, cannot move between US carriers, but can be used anywhere outside the US
At least, that's what I've gathered from lurking here for a while.

From what I have read the US GSM carriers are blocked out from being used in the phone.

According to a guy at this link Team Black Hat sells a *full* unlock code for the 3's which will allow it. This is unconfirmed but I'm Googling...
if i recall correctly, TBH offered a version of the D2G baseband firmware which they'd modified to run on any network, this cost you $100 and you had to mail it to them
i believe Cellzealot has stated that this method wont work on the D3

TBH released the band unlock to the public couple of months ago.It is now free. It only works on the oldest D2G radio firmware. Newer firmwares cannot be unlocked since Motorola moved the protection inside baseband which due to locked boot loader cannot be modified. This method will not work on D3 for the same reason.

So I picked up a droid 3 from verizon. XT862
I bought an unlock code, and am waiting for it to come in. I want to use it with t-mobile, people were saying to flash the Chinese radio. How do I go about doing this.
Also, if the XT860 works, why can't I flash that firmware?
Secondly, is there a "root" for the droid 3 yet?
And Lastly, is the droid 3 Chinese rom going to be the only rom i can run if I am on t-mobile?
Thanks in advance.

You probably should have researched this before you bought it. Yes we have root... a quick look at the forums shows several roms and recoveries. As for your other questions, no idea.
You do understand that you're only going to be getting edge on T-Mobile, yeah?
And, because the droid3 has CDMA hardware, its possible that the XT860 firmware may do strange things with your device.
Nexus S, running CM9a11

Ah I see, no problem on edge with t-mobile, I don't have a data plan.
Can you flash the TMobile software onto an unlocked AT&T Moto X without having any issues?
Why? 4.4.3 is a minor update. Why risk anything by flashing other carriers firmware?
Be patient my friend.
Wasn't necessarily for that. Was more just curiosity if any one had done it successfully.

I did just that. Works fine. The OTA yesterday flashed fine too.
Plus, no hack needed for wifi tethering.

Nice - might give it a go sometime in the future to get rid of some the AT&T junk on the phone

Thanks for the confirmation.
I'm very curious -- the XT058 supports 2 LTE bands that the XT1053 does not. Any idea if you are still able to use LTE bands 5 & 7? Or are they disabled since you are using XT1053 ROM?
Shouldn't be a big deal since LTE bands 5 & 7 aren't used the the U.S. as of yet, but it would be good to know...
If you are in the U.S. there is probably no way for you to tell...thought I'd ask anyways.
Thanks!

Before the update to 4.4.3, i was running the AT&T 4.4.2 radio files with the Tmobile 4.4.2 software. When I upgraded to 4.4.3, I flashed the TMO radio before upgrading. However, I have no idea if 5&7 can be used.
So I am running the 2013 X, unlocked bootloader with xposed and can tether via a the xposed module. Is there a way to tether on the new 2014 Moto X on Verizon? NOT the Pure Edition, im talking the 'regular' Moto X (Verizon.) I am going to order the new on on Monday but this is really the only reason its holding me back. I don't want to root or anything like that, but I rooted my 2013 just to get tether. I know Lollipop will make it difficult, but I know the community does not like to be told NO!
Anyone have anything working with Lollipop on non pure edition? Would love to hear, thanks.
Bump
Yeah, pay for it. I have no trouble tethering on my VZW variant.

I was always able to tether on my carrier devices (without any additional fees) with Telus. Same goes with my Moto X 2014.

Me too! Nothing disabled on the Telus version. As a bonus it shows the connected protocol, not stupid 3G or 4G.

Telus isn't Verizon - that's where the problem lies. Only Verizon is the NON- Pure edition Moto X - they lock it down like fort knox

AT&T has a variant that is not Pure Edition, and so does US Cellular. USCC's has unlockable bootloader. Finally some benefits for sticking with US Cellular! (even though XDA continues to refuse to acknowledge our existence).
Drop Verizon.

Grandfathered into an Unlimited plan from nearly 10 years ago - the National Guard would need to take this plan with a big goddamn army if I am going to dump this.
Anyone else experience issues with motorola Id not connecting? I tried to clear the data on some of the moto apps and no luck, it immediately goes to this "unable to connect" as if it didn't even try to.
Same issue here. Are you using it on T-Mobile by any chance or are you on Verizon. Either way its very annoying

I don't imagine it would be either but on T-Mobile and having the same issue
What happens if it dosn't connect? I was thinking of removing it altogether, I'm pretty sure it in no way exists for my benefit.
Krab, the issue is that I want to use connect, it's the only way to use the stock watch faces on my moto 360 and be able to customize the stock ones. Connect also allows you to reply to text messages from your computer on chrome through the extension.
Ok, so it does have a use then, thanks. I think I'm going to freeze it and see what happens if anything, I don't use chrome nor have any wear devices.
Ya its annoying to say the least but I'm going to activate it on Verizon prepaid when the kit gets here for it and do a factory reset to see if that's the issue. I'll go back to T-Mobile after I get a fix for it
I have the og sim from vzw, which you gave me an idea. I wonder if it'll work if I use that and wifi to activate connect then put the tmobile sim back in
Update : no luck, I'm beginning to think it's not the network as why would an app that is universal be network dependent? It uses the same motorola id, which logs in fine on my moto g and connect logs in fine on my moto g too.
That's a bummer. Ya it works fine on my moto x and my wife's moto x and my aunts moto g. Shame it won't connect...
The other thing I don't understand is, connect is used for the moto 360 as well, so it'll work on the G, but the G doesn't support the chrome extension. Which at the least it should work for the turbo...
I troubleshooted with moto care today and they had me register my device on the site and then wait a bit before attempting to reconnect it. I'll report back if it works
