Hi guys,
I may be being completely dense but on the TF700 you could switch between power saver, balanced and performance modes.
Can this be done on the TF701? I'm on 4.3 and can't find it anywhere!
Owen.
Pull down the menu from the top and choose intelligent saving. Or open the app called energy-saving and choose there what you want to choose.

That is not what he is asking. He knows that already.
He means to switch between different CPU frequencies as on the TF700 is possible.
I don't know if this is also done with the energy savings settings.
Maybe after Sbdags started to build a custom Rom he can find out if it can be done.

I can see already by playing around with the ROM files that Asus haven't set it up the same way - in fact I'm yet to see any indication of how they do it, if they even do.
I could be wrong but I read somewhere, that when your do low level tasks, like watching video, it goes to single core.

Well that is nothing new. The TF700 with Tegra 3 did that already and Tegra 4 does the same.
I guess maybe they don't lower the clock frequency just limit Wifi, brightness etc. on the TF701.

Yeah that was my wondering, a bit more 'intelligent'. Certainly can't find anything obvious in any menus or pull downs.
Checked with SystemTuner the max CPU freq when energy saving off and on.
Off: 1.91 Ghz
On: 1.7 Ghz.
So they still use it, but only 2 frequencies.

So for normal use you can let energy saving enabled unless you want to play 3d games.
When browsing I don't see any difference in speed, also not with other applications.
But for sure running an Antutu test is will score lower.

i m on v10D, i just rooted and intalled setcpu, 1500 max 1400 min gov: performance, now just after i restart/turn on my device, the frequency is right..but then after a couple of minutes it drops to 1000 mhz..i have 2 questions:1.is there a way to fix this,2.does any other version( other than v10D )offer better gaming experience...and if so, which is the best?
Thanks for your time :good:
Well i have mine when I game set to 1500 low and high plus performance. It never drops and other then that. One issue I did encounter is that as long u have profiles set up and checked it will still use them regardless if u set it in the front page to a certain speed. So u need to uncheck all profiles and also uncheck the use profiles. Basically uncheck it all then even if u uncheck use profile it still will use the profile if u select one. Here a picture from what I mean. See how I unchecked everything. U need to do this to or it still will the profiles even if not checked the use profile box.

Edit: i just removed the atp tweak..and it still automatically returns to 1000mhz
btw, are you facing any lags, framedrops, etc on v10F?
and is there any way to force the 4 cores to work simultaneously?
I have the same problem. When i set frequencies to 1500 min and max in game it's still change to lower.

CPU not run full speed
Hy !
Merry Christmas !
My problem is same as you. I don't rooted my phone.
I have stock v10h firmware hungarian,
When I play games, all games very laggy.
I checked the CPU speeds, the max frequency is 1300Mhz and below.
What is this ? Tegra 3 stupidity ?
Best Regards
Gabor
Just write 3845#*880# and on the bottom you can see cpu usage, turn it on and play some game.

that 's 3 people with the same problem...and no one is helping -.-, ^^^and he 's on v10H so its not fixed by update .-.
anyone??
It didn't change anything for me to put the CPU @ 1,5GHz constantly. I did a test with the game Horn and its lagging exactly as with the default CPU governor enabled.
If you think about it for a moment, it makes sense, as the GPU is doing the majority of work.
Tegra 3 CPU Clocks
Based on what I understand about Tegra 3 from this thread- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1664391, the CPU has 3 different "modes". 1.5Ghz single core, 1.4Ghz dual and triple core, and 1.2Ghz quad core (At a certain temperature, remains on 1.4Ghz or 1.3Ghz until that temperature is reached... quickly). The reason why the frequencies go down is because when the phone is utilising more cores, the frequency drops too. The move from 1.5Ghz to 1.4Ghz causes lag in games at times, which is why the maximum should be set to 1.4Ghz to prevent this from occuring. Also they said that the performance governor causes 2 of the 4 cores to no longer be in use, which is NOT good for Tegra games such as ShadowGun as all 4 cores cannot be used, so they advised people only to use it for Non-Tegra games as they do not use all the cores. Hoped I helped in any way, even though I'm a new guy. I'm not sure if this applies for ALL Tegra 3 devices or just the HTC One X, but it still looks like useful information.

Thanks for your reply..but for me, the frequency doesnt drop to any of the values above, it automatically drops to1000 and mostly its on 1 core
Which brings me to another problem...i need a way to force the activation of the 4 cores simultaneously...in most games the cpu is stuck at 100% single or dual core

Most games are not optimised to use 4 cores, so I guess using only 1 or 2 cores should be normal. What governor are you using for games, because this might have an effect on the performance.

I tried all governors..performance isnt the best, idk why..userspace seems to work fine, but still when i set min and max freq above 1000mhz, it automatically drops to 1000mhz ._. and that isnt quite good for gaming, and since i bought this device over s3 for gaming, i feel f*cked
so would an update to v10F or a hard reset fix anything??
EDIT: and there 's 4 other people with the same problem and one of them has v10F so hardware problem??if so, im hanging myself
Quick one here, I've only just stumbled onto the fact that power saver is configurable, and just wondering what the CPU option does? I turned it on and it didnt really seem that different.
Does it throttle CPU frequency? Change governers? disable cores? Just interested, as it could provide some battery savings without losing too much performance if just doing minor tasks. And more than that, I'd just like to know...
Thanks

Na its the same, but oddly the battery drains the same too so not sure what the point in the option is ha
so workinh on 1.2GHz dont save any battery it must do
It does just not noticeable unless you push the device to it's limits. Try doing non stop video playback with and without the power saver(cpu).
Hey fellow XDA users
I would like to know how you set up your device for a benchmark like AnTuTu, e.g. governor, min/max frequencies, disables (network disable, screen brightness etc.).
I get scores around 14300 in AnTuTu with gaming governor and nothing changed in any setting.
I'm on WerewolfJB Rom and Kernel
Thanks for your tips and experiences!

Ignore benchmarks. They mean less than nothing. The only thing worth worrying about is how the device appears to function to YOU.

in general, exactly.
but when you are deving, benchmarks can give you feedback on how it has changed, better or worse. but in the end, it's my feeling, that decides if it was better or worse before

it mostly depends on what apps you have installed.
or more precisely, what kind of apps. widgets and other stuff (syncing, ...) use background power. to avoid that, you can temporarily set the max background processes to 4 during the benchmark. that way you have a more-less comparable value

So, i'm getting a really low 3D Mark score for a "gaming" device like this, i think that Nvidia do something wrong with the Tegra 3 GPU, i got it running at 650Mhz and i get like 3000 points... other devices on the same range get a lot better scores... what to do to get better 3D on our 4X?
Well this is my score...I'm not sure our much other devices get, but from the results our O4X is in the same range as the Note 2...so I guess that those results aren't that bad...
Btw I used the official CM10.1.0 rom with stock cm kernel...

Are you running anything else? I ran at stock speeds (no overclock anything) and got 4100-4200 on five straight runs. I have no idea what a normal score for the Tegra 3 is supposed to be.
I get same result. My kernel nothing touched from defaults.
I think it is ok all tegra 3 devices get similar scores one x+ gets about 3800.

for benchmarking, stock rom > aosp rom > cm based roms > other roms, from my experience. even when you bring custom kernels to the table, it's the same.
edit:
f.e., on quadrant, stock with custom kernels could go around 6100, aosp rom we have went to 5500, cm based went up to 4800, while others went up to 4500.

and i can post my image of benchmark with 3200 score, overclocked . since my score is as valid as yours, we might as well take the average that's on the website - and the average number says that nexus7 performs better than o4x.
on the other hand, i dont game much these days, and the games i do run, run well enough. so, it's just a benchmark, a number; however i have expected tegra3 in this phone to have higher number than tablet with practically identical chip in it

While it is indeed just a number, it does actually measure something. Unless my configuration is somehow exploiting it specifically to achieve those scores, you might wish to see why you underscore so much and fix it. The phones are identical after all, and no one is talking about fancy coolers or the like as exists in PCs.

I did some testing, and may have the answer for you. The vanilla iodak sets the CPU to 1.7GHz and the 3D and 2D GPU to 520MHz, all of which are maximum values, hence the very good 3DMark scores. If you use an app such as TegraOverclock and set those values you should get the same scores or at least very close to them. I did notice that any attempt to apply an overclock to the GPU was instantly rejected. If I tried to set it to 600MHz it was immediately set at... 300MHz, so as far as I can tell, 520 is the highest possible.

it puts to 300mhz because is the minimun, in 520mhz the minimun is 200...
Edit: flashed back V20C, getting 3570 stock, i will flash Iodak again.. and test... without donwloading tegra overclock...
Edit again, this is with iodak v6 stock settings it seems that thegra overclock app reduces the performance of our devices...
Stock kernel has its gpu running at 200mhz base, scaling up to 416. Custom kernels can increase that, which leads to higher scores. I got 4k by increasing gpu to 520mhz. I don't see how just having tegra oc installed could break anything

There are none currently.
Not sure the device really needs it either. It's very fast as it and would only generate more heat and worse battery on an already hot device.
Tweaking the kernel and rom are much better options (CROMi-X )

I essentially wanted to use SetCPU in order to dramatically underclock the processor during sleep and slightly underclock it while its screen is on (because who needs all this processing power really?). This could possibly stretch out my battery life by another day. Do you think that will be possible to do when I install a different ROM on the tablet? (like yours for example)
Ah ok - download trickster mod and set the min and max freq there. SetCPU is years old and won't work with our device

Nope - it just sets the min and max.
I wonder why it gets hot though. I thought these are SoC's and aren't supposed to get hot. The tf101 didnt get hot at all. But if you overclocked it to 1.6 it started to get warm.
Does anyone know if this happens as regularly on cm11 or another aosp ROM? Also, what's a good max level to clock it at so I don't constantly worry about the heat issue?

What exactly are you worried about? You can't clock it past 1.9GHz anyway which while it might get toasty it won't fry an egg or anything.
