Small "chips" around bezel edges - Moto X Q&A

Anyone noticing small "chips" around the outside edges of the bezels? For example, the edge above the earpiece. I have a small chip/ding that just appeared randomly. This is my second MotoX (first one was all black, then I returned it and waited for MotoMaker) and it had the same thing going on. My MotoMaker version got here Thursday and I've babied the thing since then. The only thing to touch the display was my fingers and face. The chip is super apparent in the right light. Really bothers me.
Is it just me?
EDIT: Here is a picture. Sorry for the quality--the N7 isn't great at macro shots, lol.

No case and no issues at all anywhere here. Can't stand cases on this phone but it's solid so no worries without one

That's what's weird. I've absolutely babied this thing. I don't think my face caused a "chip" in glass.

It seems the chip you're seeing is on the plastic bezel, correct? Maybe scraped against something in your pocket or on a desk? We have gorilla glass but unfortunately no gorilla plastic yet.

The edges are plastic, you can see the seam between the plastic and glass if you look closely.

I thought the glass wrapped around the sides towards the backplate. I swear I remembered hearing that as a design choice.

It's plastic. You probably read one of the many rumors about the phone that came out to be completely wrong.

Actually, I think the rumor was that the plastic and glass were infused to create a seamless look. Which is true.
Well... Anyway I can reduce the appearance of this blemish?

Rumors were for "Magic Glass."
Not much you can do to lessen the blemish. Maybe fill it in with clear nail polish or laquer and polish it down. I recommend just ignoring it.

Just got the Ballistic SG case for Note 2

I looked around and I couldn't find any reviews. This is my third day with the case and so for I really like it. I was on the fence on weather to get the Otter box or the Ballistic. But, after reading reviews about the rubber getting loose around the corners on the Otter box defender and couldn't find any good pictures of the commuter I got the Ballistic.
I have had hardcases on phones in the past and found scuffs on my phones when I remove them from the cases. I like the the Ballistic has the soft rubber against the phone and the hard cover on the outside. It also has corner bumpers for extra protection. The case adds some bulk but, it can still go in the pocket of my 14 year old. (he is 5'8") I can post pictures when I get home if you guys want it.
That would great if you could post a few pics!
Here the pictures. I took shots to compare the size of the case to the phone to give better ideal of the size because you have something to compare it to. I always wish people would post pictures this way.
Here is the first shot with the Note 2 next to the case

Let me know if you have any questions
thanks for the pics, I have been endlessly googling for this type of pic until now... how about the weight? is it heavy?
thanks
I wanted a 2nd case for when don't have the need for an Otterbox. It was between the Ballistic and the Trident Aegis. I chose the Trident Aegis, not sure why cause the ballistic looks so sweet.

I am trying out to Ottebox commuter and not impressed with dificulty in pressing the buttons nor the lose corners at the top of the rubber case.
How are the buttons for you? I really have to press hard to get the volume rocker to work.

It just as easy to press as without the case. I think it's easier because no the buttons stick out more and are not as flush as without case.
I read the same things about the otterbox that is why I gave the ballistic case a try.

And
A duelpro case and a aluminum frame case. Cut, grinded and sanded to not only make them fit together, but to fit my phone. Being 1, a vzw phone so it's thicker and 2, has a tempered screen protector. Which, roughly looked like this
After hours of sanding and grinding and painting, then not liking the paint job and starting over lol I finally finished.
It's a two tone black and aluminum. Actually grinded of the black coating that came on the aluminum case to expose the raw aluminum. Then polished it and clear coated it.

Spray paint. I painted the case with the Rust Oleum plastic paint. and then an acrylic clear coat. I don't have the necessary tools or knowledge to do an actual bass and clear coat lol. I wouldn't even know how to mix it. I stripped all the clear coat of the aluminum parts though and use mothers aluminum polish on it. Looks like chrome now, pretty cool

yep, thats why i have to go with otterbox... hoping lifeproof will kicka$$,,ordered the otterbox symmetry and the alpha otterglass,75$ is better than my godd$%#n phone cracked
I guess i was overconfident after watching all those drop test videos, anyways i ordered the replacement screen that was posted and will replace it myself which seems easy.
Usually never rock cases on my phones but when I heard this phone was gonna have a glass back and after owning an iPhone that had a cracked glass back due to a drop I ordered a case for my S6 when I got home from T-Mobile lol.
Got a Spigen Ultra Hybrid case on the phone. Slim, clear, cheap and offers a fair bit more protection. Not bulky at all like some of those otterbox cases which are just too much for me.

A metal back ? Where do they sell those lol.
Try to avoid too much metal on the case if you want good reception, also a metal case would pretty much nix wireless charging for you if you use that.
I don't know if the S6 is that different in terms of the wireless radio signal's penetrating power, but my iPhone 4's glass back was broken and replaced with a metal back piece and worked fine.

I think the bigger problem is that your screen is painted over in white and also has a camera/heart rate monitor in the middle of it. The back of your phone is not the screen!:good:

+1 Besides all that a hard plastic shell protects much better than metal. Ill never under stand the want for "premium" builds, they just crack, dent and conduct electricity better. I have seen more cracked and dented premium built iphones than all android phones put together. Seriously everybody I know who has a iphone has had a damaged iphone at one time. Im getting a case on this phone the second I get it which pretty much makes that premium build nothing but a bragging right. That is a stupid thing to brag about if you ask me.

It is called "glass." Corning did not break his phone. We're his phone made of normal glass, the results would have been worse.
Luckily, T-mobile forces you to get jump for the first month. You're out $175, but at least you can get a new phone.
The glass is very strong.
The problem with glass is the stronger you make it by tempering the more likely it will fail, sometimes explosively, when that "pent up" tension is suddenly released! How does it happen? All it takes is a strike or stress to the edge. Strikes to the face with blunt objects won't do it. It can take an incredible amount of abuse. So how do you prevent this from happening? A case, even a thin one, will work wonders. When it's dropped even a thin TPU will absorb this sharp shock that the glass would receive when struck on its edge. Of course a face down drop onto gravel allowing a stone to strike the glass on the edge will still cause it to break when it hits right. And Mister Murphy will ensure this just as a cat always lands on its feet...
Even a bumper will offer protection from edge impacts. Unfortunately you have to cover things up for a more rounded real life solution.
Sorry boutcha bro.. Case it up. I ordered the Case Mate clear case that T-Mobile has in store at $34.99 for $18 on Amazon. Got it today and its like its not even on, super thin and clear with metal buttons. I HIGHLY recommend it. At least it's SUPER EASY to replace the back cover, like 5 minutes if that..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rXLJ2uJWnw
Sorry for your case. In fact you can replace the cracked glass on your own. There are many Samsung s6 back glass replacement video guide on YouTube. For good quality samsung s6 back glass replacement you can check this reliable supplier www.hcqs.com.cn.

but installing was much easier.
What gave me all that trouble was actually the protective port seal
Looks very protective alright, stylus hole is huge
Actual shot in hand
Definitely a very manly phone, small hands beware.
Weight
heavy
Button shots
Not a big fan of the buttons, you can barely feel their existance
Top shot
Kickstand
My favorite feature of the entire case
Conclusion:
Rugged case, feels safe to drop from hip high (not gonna go higher, sorry).
Look-wise can't complain.
Installing and removing the case is a pain, so I probably would not change case as often.
Can't fit into pockets but it is impossible to drop this phone with its grippiness.
I like the hole; I can hang phone around my neck and also hang it with my key.
Not water-proof but gives a decent dust-proof.
Kickstand is great for video but not for standing straight up (no big deal)
Well, that is all folks, hope this helped making up someone's mind.
I reviewed it too... my only gripe with it was the kickstand which is metal and I think the only cause - of making it not work with wireless charging.

I've got one of these coming in next week and was aggravated about not being able to use the wireless charger, even though I only use wireless at night. But in the end, a friend of mine has this case for his 6s plus, and I really like it, so if it means I go without wireless so be it.
That plastic screen protector though. Fingerprint heaven and grease! Why doesn't anyone make a case that is tight fitting with a 9h protector so that it doesn't do the grease under screen issue?! Ugh.

Cases with built-in camera protection?

I have had the phone for a week now. It's a nice phone but I'm paranoid about scratching the camera. I spent a couple of hours looking at camera protectors and am concerned about image distortion with flash. I see a lot of complaints about that, though I do see many posts saying that there is no problem. I was thinking that a case with built-in camera protection would be great. I saw this:
https://www.amazon.com/Nillkin-CamS...coding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=JV55AX2C6Y5TM9QFN4AP
It has a door that slides over the camera when not in use. It looks like a thin case though, and that it might have a problem with actually protecting the phone from drops. I also would have concerns that sliding the door over the camera might actually scratch it if there is any grit under the door.
Does a good case with camera protection even exist?
Just get a case with a good camera lip and pick up a cheap 3 dollar Dbrand skin for the camera to protect against scratches...
That's what I did....forget the glass protectors...
Sent from my SM-N986U1 using Tapatalk
Thanks. I also found this, but having anything resting on the camera glass that could shift around at all seems like a really bad idea.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B...RQTW5&linkId=4520f894a6e6f81d63a176dffe09616e
I tend to shy away from cases like this bc dirt, debris can sneak in there given enough time....and may end up scratching the glass.

Samsung has a lense protector built into the rear cover.
Simply find a good case that has raised edges around the cam module.
Try to keep your fingers off of it ie don't use it to grab the phone out of your pocket. Clean occasionally with a dry microfiber cloth.
I've been using the Bolt case for my 10+, easy to grip, great drop protection and doesn't attract dirt.
The phone's cam lense cover doesn't have even a slight scratch after over a year... and I live in the desert.

There's a layer of adhesive on the protector so the metal never actually touches the glass.
This is the case I'm using. It has total protection for cameras: https://www.shopmoment.com/products/galaxy-thin-case/note-20-ultra
