Cant install busybox - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I recently have rooted the device and it gives me error trying to install busybox
Could you help me?

Try installing the newest busybox zip via TWRP or CWM recovery instead. This worked for me when I had the same issue. Good luck

I've been having the same issue as well. All the busybox files I find are .tar.bz2
I tried to install through CWM and it won't find the file. I tried renaming the file and it will not allow me to drag it to the phone. I tried unzipping the file on my PC then rezip the file. The phone was able to see the file but the install kept failing.

Is the version you're downloading built for Android? Just grab a version from the play store. I have the Stericson version.

I actually found a solution on a different post that worked for me. Go to Google Play and download HTC ONE RW. What it does is it allows files to be written to the system. Then download BusyBox Installer from the play store. Pick the version of Busy Box you want and install. :good:

Help installing an App?

I am trying to install something that will read WORD documents. The old Google Apps (from Cyanogen) used to have something, but the latest round doesn't appear to.
I get the error message "install_parse_failed_no_certificates"
I'm using the command:
adb install C:/PassionQuickOffice.apk
Tried a different version of the file and I also tried to install using ESTRONG - no luck
Any idea what I am doing wrong?
Not sure if this will work or not but I don't think you can/need to install it.
Just push it to system/app

[Q] Adding gapps to Droid 1 with CM6

I finally made the jump and rooted my Droid 1 today and installed CM6. I had issues with Rom Manger giving me an error when trying to download CM6 with Google Apps, so I downloaded the ROM from the web and installed it manually. Works like a charm.
I tried to go back to ROM Manager and just install Google Apps, but it keeps giving me an error during downloading.
I still need the Google Apps installed... I have downloaded the zip and moved it to my SD card, but can't figure out how to flash it. (been searching the past hour for an answer) I have gone to recovery mode but it looks like that is only to update ROMs (update.zip) am I missing something easy here?
Thanks

It depends on what Recovery image you are using. For some reason ROM Manager gets a bad CRC or other error when downloading the GApps addon update zip. Don't know why. However if you get the latest file directly from the CyanogenMod site (hardware appropriate of course) you can install it from the recovery screen.
I'm using ClockworkMod Recovery 2.5.0.1 and it allows you to specify a .zip of any name and directory on the SD-card (you have to mount it first). I'm not sure if normal SPRecovery allows for that. Make no mistake, installing the GApps is basically a ROM update, as it installs them to the System apps folder (which is essentially read only).
One thing to note once you get it installed. Sometimes you get issues with updating the ROM's apps (including GApps). This was notoriously noticed with the new Car Home and the new YouTube apps. In order to fix it, you have to use RootExplorer, TitaniumBackup or another SuperUser enabled browser or app manager to forcefully remove the system app, then get the updated app from the Market.
I hope that helps.
I'm using ClockworkMod Recovery 2.5.0.1 but didn't see a menu item for installing zip files. I ended up renaming the Gapps file to Update.zip and flashed it in recovery mode. Worked like a charm.
Thanks
Do any of you have this error itself?
I'd like to see if I could make sense of it. Back when I installed Cyanogenmod 6.0.0 on my new phone, about 2 weeks ago, I was able to install it with GApps with no problem.

[Q] How to update BusyBox?

Heya!
So I wanted to update my BusyBox to the latest version (for 4cylturbo).
At first I thought using BusyBox.
The app said I don't have busybox on my system which is weird because I used Shaaan's root when I moved to JB, and I also checked in the /system/bin and /system/xbin, both locations have busybox in them
So my question is what would be the proper way to update BusyBox? And why do I have BusyBox in both locations?
EDIT:
So I managed to find why I have Busybox in both locations. I am using right now ikaster17's Pure Vanilla ROM and in his ROM both locations have the BusyBox binray.

For me, I usually check where the busybox installed first whether xbin/bin using this app. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.busybox.installer&feature=search_result
Then I use the busybox app by stericson same as your link to install the latest version. Install the latest version in the same place as the old ones, then use the app given in the link above again to verify your new busybox version. Hope this helps.
You have two busybox because the app installed your latest version not in the same place as the old original location. You have to check and choose it yourself before installing a new busybox version.
I tried the app you suggested, it said that I have it installed in the xbin folder, but it couldn't identify the version number I am using.
The Rom is what installed it in both locations, should I manually delete the one in bin and then install the new version in xbin?

I think when you installed new version, the old ones is deleted. You can try that or just flash back the rom. I ended up the same as you before. I wiped all and flash back the rom then update busybox.
So I finally got some time to do a nandroid backup and install.
At first I installed in the bin location, did a reboot, tested it out and it worked flawlessly.
I then used my file explorer again to check the files in both locations: in the bin directory I saw the newer version, but in the xbin directory I still saw the previous version, so I installed again this time in the xbin directory, did another reboot and this time both locations had the new versions.
By the way, the app still doesn't see my current installed version, so I am guessing there's a problem with that feature...
The other app you suggested isn't helpful, only used the busybox app.
Thanks for your advice!
Seems to be working with no problem

Yeah, that app doesn't show current version. That's why I used the other one to check the version. See ss below.
For me also the other app didn't show current version

LOL maybe because there's 2 locations with busybox.

[Q] Can't install secure settings helper

I'm trying to install helper (busy box already installed) however, every time I try to install it, it reboots my phone. Pushing the apk into system\app also reboots the phone. I can push other apk's and remove apk's from system\app just not the helper apk. When I try to flash the securesettingshelper.zip in CWM it says "installation aborted"
I've tried a number of things to get this working including flashing the bulletproof-1.8 kernel. I've also tried doing the fix here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2230341
Does anyone have the helper installed on their device? If so, could you link or guide me through the process?
Thanks
EDIT: solved! not sure what the issue was still, but I just did a full wipe and reinstalled Android Revolution HD 8.0. Perhaps it's because I tried using Rom Cleaner 3.5 for the HTC One X

I got it to work. I just used the normal install from the app itself. nothing special, no apk or cwm zip file. Make sure your root is ok?

yea installing from the app is the first thing I tried. I know my root is good since su is installed and all other apps work fine.
i got the same "installation aborted" when flashing via cmw, but did manual copy paste and change name
(Manually copy to /system/app/SecureSettingsHelper.apk ) and then restart my n7105. now helper is working. will try if pattern unlock is working.
what other people do after installing helper?

Well, I have previously installed YouTube vanced so I can help you with this :good::good:
1> Download the last zip file >>ytva-universal-installer-v5.1.zip<< move it to download folder and download YouTube vanced module in Magisk Manager.
2> Now boot to your recovery and flash the file installed from GDrive via TWRP and then reboot to system.
3> HOPE THIS WORKS AND IF NOT TELL ME.
4> OOPSIE forget to tell about the notifications first of all disable YouTube before doing anything and disable auto-updates in Google Play Store after you will do steps 1 and 2 then there will be no notifications of updating your YouTube
