Guys Post your DSP settings for nexus 5 in this thread, so people using nexus 5 will be comfortable in changing the settings.
Posting Rule :
1. Name the head phone Using
2. Specify full details
Hope this thread is Useful
Thank You.
Headphones:
-Sony XB-500 (home)
-Klipsch Image S4 (outside)
DSP settings:
- I personally don't any DSP settings. I've noticed it distorts the sound like crazy. If I try to turn up the levels of lows or mids I notice that the overall volume decreases. The bass boost is useless and I used to use the surround effect but it also distorted sound. Any of you have different experiences?
As a side note, I always stream music in the highest quality from spotify

Eh?
Not Equalizing the music is like eating raw meat...
I usually listen to heavy metal and dubstep (videogame remixes ) and I usually decrease a bit (-5db) at 500hz (mids) and raise (+5db) at 87hz (lows) and 8khz (highs).
Artificial bass boosters are a crap, complete Equalizers are better but i dont know any android player that has a complete equalizer (from 30hz to 16khz)

Played around a bit with the default Play Music EQ using both the speaker and a pair of Shure SE115 in-ears. I had the speaker volume at about 75% and the earphones closer to 60%. Both are lacking in the bass department so increasing the first 60hz slider will help with the low range.
Using the speaker EQ adjustments were mostly amounting to a "louder" sound. This makes sense as you're just increasing DB at various ranges and increasing all of them at the same level should increase overall loudness while not adjusting the sound too much.
With tiny speakers in my ears the adjustments were much more profound. Having tried the EQ Off I then switched back and forth between FX Booster and Normal. This was bringing out a lot more in the way of vocals and guitar solos in the Pearl Jam tracks I was listening to without introducing much noise so I settled on something in between those 2 presets as my User having already adjusted the 60hz for Bass on it's own to find the right placement and then bringing the last 14Khz slider down almost in line with that about +7DB.
Stay away from the Surround slider and check to see if it turned itself on randomly like it has for me twice now. On the speaker it didn't seem to make much difference but with in ears it was destroying the sound in an attempt to make it more "live" sounding. This could also potentially lead to distortion at max volumes.
Bass boost is also better left off or at the very minimum allowed setting otherwise bass on my Shures sounded muddied and took away from the rest of the song. Better to increase the DB for the lowest EQ slider instead.
DSP setting. Need to download CM. Will change with results tonight.

Neutron is your best bet for SQ on Android.
I've paid for PlayerPro, Power Amp, and Neutron (and tried out many others). Never found anything that compares to Neutron.

hey guys, i noticed a REALLY annoying thing when i was going through the EQ presets in stock music player. If i choose Bass Boost, then my headphones start to behave strangely, like they cant handle the sound, on every thump there is a crackle in the headphones. you could say that its my headphones fault, but wait, heres the best part, ALL of my 3 headphones do the same + my computer speakers.
only happens on Bass Boost preset. guys try to play some track with a heavy bass beat, test if you have the same.
maybe there is an issue with the sound chip, idk. not a real argument to return the phone lol..
i wouldnt mind this, but bass boost is the best sounding preset (virtual surround is cool too, but its a bit too flat for me)
thx. lol, this came out to be quite a post
The sound output from the speakers while playing any MP3
songs etc is pretty low. I could hardly hear the music, though
the sound quality thru the head phones is awesome.
(I use a Media player application called PowerAmp.)
Initially I thought that this low volume and quality is due
to hardware limitations..internal amp and the speakers
located at the bottom of the phone.
The other day I tried out a Game called "Jetcar Stunts" .
( This game has good built in sound effects )
Surprisingly, the sound level and quality was superb !
I couldn't imagine that the Phone could have this output level.
So its all linked to the SW now..which means there is hope
we can soon find a good media player for this Phone to
display its real power.
It is really a good phone.
PowerAMP amplify the speaker or u can use volume+
I tried that apk..but not much improvement.
I believe the Hardware is there to produce good quality
sound from the LG P990 speakers.
Bust somehow the SW is unable to make use of it.
But , that game 'JetCar Stunts' seems to have got over
this shortcoming.
Already disscussed before. Hope voodoo plus will add speaker add on soon. My ringtone are so high and of good quality. I don't understand why music is so low

just get cm7 with inbuilt dspmanager... that with the eq you can adjust the output
I mainly listen to rap/r&b and found this to be the best balance of bass, treble and vocals for my device. It is tuned a little high on the treble but its a good compromise for Youtube dialogue, music, and maximum volume clarity. I can turn it to the maximum volume regardless of what is playing with little to no distortion. Considering the hardwrae limitation of the speaker I am surprised at how loud the Nook can go and still sound halfway decent.
Nook Tweaks > Audio Settings >
DAC boost: The slider stops under the letters A & I below the word gain.
Warning: increasing DAC gain can lead to distortion or speaker damage
External Speaker Analog Gain:
Maximum
DSP Manager App (included w/ CM7):
Custom Preset (from left to right):
Far left is pulled all the way to the bottom.
-6.4
-5.3
+1
+1.9
+0.9
No bass boost
In case someone has not noticed, the Nook's volume / sound quality can be greatly enhanced by cupping your hand behind the speaker while holding it.
I wish there were more of these threads. I can't find a happy medium between headphone and internal speaker quality, and it seems like they are controlled by the same EQ in DSP Manager.
Your settings sound like crap in my headphones. Anything that sounds good on my headphones distorts the internal speaker.
Wow, thanks for bumping this. I was becoming concerned over the low volume of my NC speaker.
Thanks stir fry a lot, these settings are great!
Wow sounds good!
It is a bit higher treble, but its ok.
Is the 6th (far right) slider 0?

Get the Nook Color Tweaks app by Dalingrin. It allows you to set the analog gain of the headphones and external speaker independently of each other. It sounds like you just need to crank down the gain on your headphones.

I've tweaked mine a little since posting this but the far right one was at +.09. I'm not really sure what the far left was set at now lol. It may have been pulled all the way to the bottom. Glad this thread helped some people. No one really seemed to pay attention to it when it was initially posted.

Thank you so much! I've been trying to find a way to boost the external volume.

thank you very much for this. I now have a media player that is usefull. Without this app, the nook would not have been usable as my media source for my primary listening stereo
Hi I have a problem I have extremely good hearing and when I listen to my music on my note with the volume on minimum my ears hurt like hell when listening because it is too loud I measured it with a decibel meter and it is 52 decibels is there a way to make it less loud
How can it be too loud when on minimum ? It will be like a whispering mouse.
Have a fiddle with the equalizer settings, you may be able to reduce it a bit, As for mods and apps, they only exist to INCREASE the volume.
Or better still, place some cotton wool in your ears before putting your headphones in.

It is quiet with ear buds but when my big as headphones are connected they are way louder possibly because of the 50 millimeter drivers
aaaaah, that makes sense I assumed you were talking about the stock in-ear headphones.
I have some beats studios and they are very loud too, But i like it loud so its no problem for me.....
Do you have DSP Manager installed ? you could try to lower the bars to reduce the volume, Or try the app, Fine volume https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=opotech.finevolumev2

OK I will try that I have some beats pro which I unfortunately could not use because of the loudness so I used them on my mp4 player from sony
I think the best solution for you is a hardware solution, means: Buy an adapter which includes a resistor (with +/- to increase/decrease the Ohm).
All other solutions will impact the sound too much.
Those adapters are cheap and should be available at all eletronic shops.

Get an app with pre amp so you can turn the signal down b4 it's amplified.

Hi really annoyed I joined id mobile got free handset Huwaei P smart but phone headphones cheap reasonable chinese headphone flat ribbon perfect but the other / Phillips/ and good iphone angular subwoofer tube ended style say 30 quid versions are too low like faint or in other apps bar huwaei music app are tinny and distant, but I cannot find now the chinese pair that work louder than whisper level volume level, even with huwaei music app equalizer on maximum volume and hz levels, maxed and bass maxed and/or 3d audio maxed seems to go faint whisper volume and tinny distant sound, it's on latest stock update 8.. something android and 3gb ram I belive, it's really way too quiet speaker output is fine if not bordering good reasonable loudness but headphones are almost inaudible, any ideas of a no root, way to fix this sound issue to use any headphones without problems? The huwaei headset is louder but no substance no bass or realism to the sound playing either, it's lacking something? Any advice would be helpfull especially a way without voiding warranty to get every heaphone set working, thanks in advance guys.
