[Q] How to upgrade HBOOT from 1.44 to 1.54? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was originally on ViperROM and running HBOOT 1.54.
I need to take back my phone for speaker crackling. I thought that I would need to downgrade HBOOT to 1.44 but now realise that our region is already on 1.54.
I have installed stock recovery with Guru Reset and now running the right firmware and ROM for our region.
Bootloader is unlocked and tampered message shows. I have tried to S-OFF with revone but I get segmentation fault.. I have tried to flash a stock HBOOT 1.54 but it didn't work (I guess due to S-ON)
Please help.. Thanks for reading - and hopefully helping

I think you're pointed in the wrong direction. If you're trying to do a warranty claim and restore your phone to stock, you should be running the proper software. From what you posted, you're using the European software, but have a model number consistent with Austraila
Hong-Kong, and Singapore. If you can find the stock RUU for your phone, it will flash everything to stock. If there is an OTA update that updates the bootloader, cool. But I don't think the bootloader is as important as everything on the phone being consistent with using the software it shipped with, or having been upgraded via OTA updates.

Try using revone on version-main 1.29.401.13 or 1.29.401.16.
also don't upgrade your hboot before getting s-off again. You don't need s-on for warranty anyways.

The Guru Reset I used was for the Australian models.. I don't know why you say it's European

Help returning to stock for repair

Hi Guys i am following this guide to restore my phone to stock for HTC repair (camera issue)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2358738
do I need to make the phone s-on and lock the bootloader?
it mentions that can brick if has a modified HBOOT when re-locking the bootloader
so my main question is this "is the Stock HBOOT included in RUU?

no problem, please follow instruction 1, then 2 then 3, etc.
s-on is OPTIONAL, it's up to YOU to decide that
still having trouble, found my original stock backup of 4.2.2, but now have HBOOT 1.44, i really need a full Vodafone UK RUU the .exe version would probably be best but just cant find anywhere, cant even flash the OTA RUU probably because I have mismatched firmware, recovery and HBOOT now,
well UPS is picking it up tomorrow so i'll just have to hope they don't refuse repair due to software not being 100% stock especially as the issue is a hardware fault
wish me luck and thanks for you help

1- you might wanna edit your post and remove IMEI and s/n
2- from above getvar, you look like you followed the first part of my guide an now your phone, is an European unbranded phone.
3- so quick quick question, you wanna go back to "VODAP001" (do you really need to?) ? is there a nandroid backup out there?

don't forget you need "stock recovery" for OTA to update correctly, and do not go from s-off to s-on on 4.3 (hboot 1.55) it will most likely trigger a "tamper detected"!!
if you did get hboot 1.55 just keep s-off, otherwise you're gonna be back on square 1.
I have to sign off now, but you can PM me if anything comes up before tomorrow.
if my guide did help you in any way, i would appreciate it if you posted your details, in my thread (whenever you get a chance), it will be helpful to others.
and hit the thanks button in the guide
good luck :fingers-crossed:
Yeah I flashed my original stock backup, flashed stock recovery and locked bootloader , I had forgot to change my CID back, it wasn't till u advised that I post my " getvar all" that I noticed, I haven't checked if my HBOOT is still 1.44 or updated to 1.55 yet, I left s-off hope it still is, again many thanks mate

Yeah I'm on HBOOT 1.55 now but still s-off, I take it if I s-on again I won't be able to get it back, I used rumrunner s-off last time but I that was on HBOOT 1.54 iirc, not that it matter now anyway

Keep s-off, otherwise u may end up having to start at square 1, and if I read correctly, u have to send it off in the morning.
UK repair centers seem quite decent, and they can't really prove it wasnt s-off to begin with.

the variant error shows up when your OS in the bootloader and Software number inside the ROM doesnt match, you need to find a compatible ROM, the ROM you are using (3.63.707.3) is for India/Asia with cid HTC__038 and HTC__044 and MIDs PN0711000 and PN0714000 respectively, what's your Model ID? can you post the results of "fastboot getvar all" excluding your Serial No. and IMEI? if you can tell me your Model ID i can suggest the compatible stock ROM reset or RUU for your phone

can you gain s off using Rumrunner? because i cant find a stock Reset Guru Rom that matches your Model ID and CID, but there is an RUU for PN0711000 and HTC__J15 , it downgrades the OS so it requires s off , @nkk71 what do you think, man?

Found a compatible RUU from the thread you gave. But couldn't flash the RUU zip, always got different errors.
Got sick of this after 11 hours of research and stuff. I've just SOFF'd my M7 with Sunshine, revert back to 1.29 (Sense 5 and 4.1.2 ) now installing all the firmwares one by one.

did you relock bootloader and use the htc_fastboot.exe? then it should have worked just fine.
anyway, S-OFF is a much better thing to have imho, and since you're S-OFF you could consider changing the modelid to PN0710000; obviously it wont give you LTE (since the hardware is missing), but would allow you to get the "regular" .401. OTAs
but guess you wont need to worry about that for the time being, since PN0711000 is also on new version now.

Trying to go back to stock, need a little bit of help

Hi,
I am trying to go back to stock (S-on and probably bootloader unlocked since it's a dev edition) so I could send the phone for repairs. I successfully flashed:
RUU Zip M7_UL_JB43_SENSE50_MR_BrightstarUS_WWE_3.22.1540.1-decrypted
but my hboot did not change and is 1.55. A lot of posts say it should be stock before trying to S-On or locking the bootloader. Does "stock" mean the one which the phone came with (1.44) or the one flashed with the RUU (probably 1.55)?
Also, if I successfully S-on with hboot 1.55, after I get the phone back is there a chance I will not be able to S-off again?

Thanks a lot, this will downgrade my hboot?,
Could you explain why the RUU which I flashed is not a good one? and just for future reference:
Does "stock hboot" mean the one which the phone came with (1.44) or the one flashed with the RUU (probably 1.55)? Or just a not modified one?
Also, if I successfully S-on with hboot 1.55, after I get the phone back is there a chance I will not be able to S-off again?

2- "stock hboot" doesn't mean 1.44; 100% stock refers to the ROM + firmware (hboot is included in firmware) being HTC stock, i.e. nothing custom. It could be any version, so if you go buy a new M7 at the moment, high chances it already comes with hboot 1.57 (or at least 1.56)
3- there's nothing "wrong" with the ruu you suggested, but hboots above 1.54 (at least some), have shown to trigger "tamper detected - rebooting" and tampered being back in the bootloader screen, when going from S-Off to S-On
so to be safer, I suggested an older RUU
so if you intend on going S-ON, then I highly recommend you do it on hboot 1.44 or 1.54 (ROM/firmware version 1.xx.xxx.x or 2.xx.xxx.x respectively)

[SOLVED] HTC One Debranding

I just bought an HTC One which is unlocked but it shows the O2 bootscreen. I wish to debrand the phone but will that lock the phone? I am not sure how the phone was unlocked by the previous user. Thanks

No it will not lock the phone, unless you want it locked. Post a fastboot getvar all except remove the imei and serialno and we will be able to direct you how to rebrand your phone.

I dont know if you are talking about sim unlock or bootloader unlock but anyway, both sim and bootloader will stay unlocked even if you flash another rom or if you debrand the phone.
I see
@alray Yeah I mean sim unlock, Can you post a link of a guide to install stock htc rom to debrand. Will I be able to get OTA updates? What steps are needed Unlock bootloader, s-off, change cid custom recovery and install rom? Can you link me to a stock rom with ota for europe or international version. I had a look at the first link in your sig but its kinda confusing.
@nkk71 can you help?

If you want a full conversion, you can s-off the phone, change cid to HTC__001 and flash a x.xx.401.x RUU. Your best option to s-off on hboot 1.57 is probably sunshine s-off but its a paid exploit (25 USD) or you can try firewater, its free but it will require more steps and you have like 50% chance it will not work.
or the easier way, if you only want a debranded rom, you could only unlock the bootloader, flash twrp 2.6.3.3 and then flash a rom (like arhd 71.1)

@alray Hey I did everything and am now trying to get the right RUU for europe or international. I flashed this : RUU_M7_UL_JB_50_HTC_Europe_1.28.401.7_Radio_4A.13.3231.27_10.31.1131.05_release_310878_signed.exe and it seems to be fine except I am still s-off and an for some reason an option while doing the initial wizard called Tell HTC tells me this is a test device so this option will remain on. What is causing this? My device is a test device?! Wrong RUU?
Edit: I am updating the phone but it wont find the latest after every boot it finds the next. Now installing 4.3, it was 4.1.2 to begin with..

Tell HTC/test device is normal. You'll always get this message at the initial setup with s-off phones, don't worry with this.
The ruu will not turn back s-on and thats a good thing. Keep your phone s-off.

Yeah I thought it was the s-off causing this. Thanks for you reply, gonna install update after update and see if it comes up with the latest. Bit strange it doesn't install the absolute latest, but I guess the final update size would be huge to have all the fixes in previous versions in one.

updates must be installed incrementally, don't worry you'll eventually be on the latest version.

HTC One M7 GPE won't update from Jellybean

I have an HTC One M7 Google Play Edition running Jellybean (4.2.2). This lags well behind the current version of android for this version of the phone. Unfortunately, I am unable to receive an OTA update (everytime I check, I get a message stating that my phone is up to date). Is there anything I can do to force an OTA update short of rooting the device and manually installing the updates? I am currently on a BYOD plan with T-Mobile if that matters at all.

Everything looks good. Is your bootloader locked/unlock/relocked?
You could use a RUU to update your phone, flashing a ruu will wipe everything from the phone, like if it was brand new. Backup your important files before.
If you ever considered S-OFF for your phone, better to do it before updating using rumrunner exploit for free. If you update to the latest version, you will need to use Sunshine s-off which cost 25$.

My bootloader is locked. (I pulled the phone out of the unopened box just yesterday).
I tried to get S-OFF using rumrunner so I could update using the HBOOT recovery feature, but there was an issue with my phone not being rooted or something along those lines. Maybe the failure was due to a locked bootloader? (I'm new to all of this.)
If I set my phone to S-OFF, would it be better to just manually apply the updates or use an RUU?

Achieving s-off requires root. Root requires a custom recovery, Custom recovery requires an unlocked bootloader.
Unlocking the bootloader will void your warranty if you have one.
S-OFF is not something everyone needs but its very useful when you have to flash files in case the phone is somehow bricked. If you are not planning to flash custom roms or any other custom files I would recommend staying S-ON. In the worst case, you'll have to pay 25$ for s-off if you really need it later.
better to use the RUU to update the phone imo, much faster than applying all ota updates from your current version. The only downside of using a ruu is that it will wipe your phone data (which shouldn't be a big issue since your phone is 1 day old). Much convenient to update using ota update after so you'll not have to deal with the wipe each time.

I am having trouble finding an RUU for the google play edition. I've been googling and searching the forums for a while now, but most of the RUU's and ROMs I find are for the Sense version. Would the RUU here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2358781 work?

Thanks for the all the help! I used the RUU to update to 5.0.1. That, unfortunately, did not allow an OTA update directly, but I did manage to sideload the 5.1 update via abd.
