[Q] Upgrades blocks my GT N7000 - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Recently I've updated my phone from ICS 4.0.4 to Jelly Bean through samsung kies. It was ok for about
a week or so before it suddenly lost all network connection. My phone could not connect to any network,
only can make emergency calls. Samsung could not do anything about it and suggest i change the motherboard.
I managed to revert back to stock rom gingerbread using PC Odin and tried upgrading again to stock rom
ICS. The funny things is when I upgrade the phone to ICS, again the update blocks my phone as I thought
only JB would do that. And because I've been on ICS for quite sometime I didn't think it would behave that
way.
I have tried all method, factory reset, hard reset, wipe cache before upgrading to ICS yet it doesn't help. Can
anyone help me? Btw, my phone is not rooted.. Thanks in advance.

hows your IMEI? what does it start with?

It starts with 3595XXXX all the 15 digits are there

Is it network locked?
try using one of these
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.sgs2simunlockcode&hl=en
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.helroz.galaxysunlock&hl=en

Network locked and the phone simply could not detect my sim. The above method
would require me to root the phone, right?

Say if I'm going to root my phone, which one should I do first?
a) Upgrade ICS (official) then root and unblock sim
b) root the current gingerbread with CWM and then flash ICS rom
Sorry, noobie here... juz needed to make sure so I dont end up with brick device

If you root GB and flash ICS, root will be lost again. Be on ICS ... Make sure you don't do a factory reset on ICS unless you install a safe kernel. Install Philz kernel for ICS and it will root your phone. The you can try those apps.

Ok. I will try that. Thanks.

My kernel version is N7000DXLP9 (Baseband N7000DXLP5) (Build Number IML74K.DXLP9) so the file I should be using is
PhilZ-cwm6-DXLP9-OLB-v2.7
http://www.mediafire.com/file/yr1mua...2.7-signed.zip
http://www.mediafire.com/file/7q0qdg...LB-2.7.tar.md5
And the one with .zip is root only and tar.md5 file is root + CWM... is this correct?

I've rooted the phone and tried both Sim unlock apps as suggested by you but unsuccessful. So where do I go from here?
(Galaxy S Unlock) When dialing *#7465625# it says
Network Lock [OFF]
Network Subset Lock [OFF]
SP Lock [OFF]
CP Lock [OFF]
My phone status currently says
Network : Unknown
Signal Strength : -95dBm 9asu
Mobile Type : HSDPA:9
Service State : Out of Service
Mobile Network State : Disconnected
Emei : 3959xxxxxxxxxxx

I've download this file CWM version: SpeedMod K3-15 for CWM from touristinparadise blog and
CriskeloRom ICS Note V11.2 LRK
LINK
CriskeloRomNOTE.vICS-V11.2-MD5-7FEDC9597F42C0E9CA2AE4673E84798B.zip

phone issues?

Not sure why this is happening in your case.. the file you have downloaded are kernel and a rom.. try if you want to..

If I want to flash back to stock gingerbread rom does this wipe my root completely?

Yes and you will also need to wipe data.

Ok. Thanks

Sorry to disturb u again.. i've trying to find a working link to download this rom but to no avail.
http://criskelo.geeker-tue.org/NOTE...E.v7-MD5-5F1906B96CA2380265104AC12D7EEF5C.zip
I've also been trying to get Kingdroid's gingerbread rom but notice that many of these gingerbread versions are dead
links. Can u pls help redirect me? I've found out that under ICS/JB my phone's CSC is locked that is y i am facing these network problem.
I thought if i can go back to GB base rom the phone will function again as it was on stock rom.

[Q] Root lost after update from 2.3.5 to 2.3.6

Hi all. I rooted my 2.3.5 note and all was fine until I updated to 2.3.6 via kies. In "about phone" in settings it still mentions root however Superuser doesn't work, nor will Titanium Backup. I used Dr Ketan's guide to root ( thanks Dr ) have tried to unroot and reroot but nothing appears to work. Otherwise phone is functioning fine. Can some kind soul help me sort my issue out please?

2.3.5 and 2.3.6 is not sufficient to describe ROM
what rom you were using first which was rooted, N wat ROM you have got updated
Describe Baseband version
Kernel version
from setting - about phone
And it is naturally when you update via kies, you will lose Root
You have to ReRoot, n that depends on which ROM you are having Now
Update
It seems that SU binary files have gone missing! Reinstalling Superuser has had no effect - Doh. Still need help!

Ya many time i have seen this strange things happens in KL3, it reacts just like KL7/8/LA1, which are non rootable.
Once hard reset device and try to Root, if not success then Reflash to Old ROM
You will get Root easily on that.
Get Mobile Odin Pro from market, then Flash KL3 with Mobile Odin, n keep option 'Ever Root'Enabled.
Thanks for the quick response. I only wanted root to enable me to use Titanium Backup so I could freeze all the bloatware etc. I didn't want to use mobile Odin so if I had to send back my phone I could unroot it without affecting the flash counter or whatever it is, and have no probs with samsung service. As it stands phone works ok and bloatware still frozen but unable to unroot if I do have to return it. Also if I hard reset do I lose all my data? I was using Titanium to backup but that is obviously no longer working. Is there any way to restore SU binary files?
Kind Regards

Read second link of my signature, Stock ROM for N7000
You just get old ROM from there and flash it with PC Odin.
These are Stock ROM, it wont give you yellow triangle or raised counter

Any time you can back to stock(for warranty purpose) by flashing stock ROM with PC odin
As it is often mentioned that the KL7 is not directly rootable, I was wondering if in the near future it will be? I'd hate to flash my Note as I've already set up things the way I like (for now!). Just want to add some stuff, like titanium and ubuntu, that needs root.
@toadski how was your flashing of the old FW?

[Q] Problems Rooting the SGN

I have the GT-N7000 Vodafone GR with XXLA6 Kernel.
I 've tried all methods I could find in XDA and/or on the Internet (zergRush, reverting in older stock ROM, reverting rooting and updating to latest ROM, ODIN, CRW etc)
All attempts that succeeded have resulted to one unstable Note; instability meaning that it reboots, repeatedly and uncontrollably, at any time it wishes, especially after a normal restart (power off or simple reboot). Or, in some cases, losing the 3G data connection and having to reboot to regain it.
I need root access for ad blocking and quick rebooting. I'm not really into overclocking or tweaking the device but I'd do it if possible without losing stability.
Any ideas how this can be achieved?
Thanks in Advance

I think, the only option to only get root is to downgrade your note to a rootable rom and then root it with zergRush.
Please let me know if you need further help.
Alternative and easier way for you to root your Note would be to flash using PC Odin one of the pre-rooted stock Roms.
After that download the corresponding CF-Root kernel (i.e. if you flashed LC1 Rom, download LC1 CF-Root kernel) and flash it through Mobile Odin to inject CWMR.
That's all.

I've tried ODIN with older Stock Unfortunately as soon as I upgrade to latest ROM it becomes unstable
The thing with the pre-rooted is that none is Greek Vodafone and I need the latest Vodafone GR

The usual remedy for system instability is just to do a factory reset once.
Everything usually behaves nicely after that.
Won't it be unrooted by the factory reset as I'll be "upgraded" to the latest stock ROM?

No, never. Reset just erases your personal apps and data, and doesn't touch the system.
OK! Thanks a zillion Starting the process....
Looks all right I'll monitor and update in case of problems. FYI for better or for worse I wiped/FSed BEFORE and AFTER downgrading the ROM and rooting
Just now More than 36 hours of operating smoothly and greatly, it started again rebooting at will with no GSM signal etc.
Any ideas?

Why do you need 'Greek Vodafone', as you put it.
There is nothing specific about the Vodafone rom except perhaps some bloatware.
Don't all of these ROMs support the Greek language? Under language/keyboard, my ROM displays Greek, I believe it is the euro version

OK 72+ hours after a new factory reset NO problems appear. I stronly believe that the issues were brought by too may apps installed. All previous times I had >190 apps Now I kept it <150 and it seems to work fine. (Could this mean that I have a hardware problem on my phone's memory chips?)
Any how the road was:
A) Downgrade to a rootable ROM
B) Root
C) Factory reset
D) Upgrade to the latest ROM with CWM
E) Factory reset
F) Full reinstallation from GP(Just to be on the safe side
That is all> If I have any news/probs I'll update

Anyone got a easy step by step guide to go from ICS Stunner to the GERMAN STOCK OFFICIAL that is floating around in the forums???

Just use good old mobile odin and flash the rom, make sure you use the wipe settings to
i was also on ics stunner 1.4.26.1 i just downloaded the stock rom copied the tar.md5 file and flashed it through mobile odin pro, these steps worked for me, but however there is a problem with my samsung keyboard whatever keys i type it only shows null null ... changed it to swype keyboard there is no problem with swype but however there is a problem with samsung keyboard in this build
so basically install mobile ODIN, Put the tar.md5 file on sd card, point mobile odin to the md5 file and use wipe settings and thats it?
sounds easy downloading the file now hope it works if i am wrong in this procedure or if anyone can add extra things i should do before i flash let me know thank you!!!
Do not use mobile odin to flash from a rom that uses the leaked kernel repack;
Use PC odin.
You risk permanently bricking your note.

You can use Mobile Odin but it's not recommended if you're on a leaked ROM/kernel. Use PC Odin and flash it from there.
Just follow the short "guide" here.

Flash the ICS ROM that is already prerooted form this thread, it's stock ICS with only root.. Flash it with PC Odin and you're good to go..
Ok guys here goes.
I downloaded one of the stock ICS roms. For Premium Suite make sure its bigger than 600MB. There is various sources.
I flashed using PC Odin (V1.85) then did a full wipe after flashing. Its all running buttery smooth now. Enjoy!
(First boot will take a while. Just wait it out. Any longer then 15 mins, get worried!)

WRONG
I am talking about kernels, not bootloaders.
If you use mobile odin, it will use the bugged kernel to flash the mobile odin kernel, therefore risking bricking your phone.
The risk is a lot smaller then using CWM recovery to flash a rom, but it is still there.
I do not know which extra steps to take if you have a different bootloader.

Do not confuse people with incorrect information.
Only those who somehow managed to flash Chainfire's original LP5 repack have said
bootloaders.
Since that flashing procedure is so complicated, I doubt there's more than 1-2
users who managed to do that.
And don't use red fonts to post panicky and false warnings.

Error while flashing Rom with CWM

hi.
i have an Australian N7000B Note, and it is currently rooted on the latest available android in the country for the phone (2.3.6)
i have superuser and CWM installed.
i can boot into CWM and navigate with no worries, but whenever i try to install any custom rom, regardless what rom it is, i get the same error.
i really want to get off this crappy rom that Telstra provides with the phone, so any help is greatly appreciated.
many thanks
pic attatched of error.
Use ODIN to flash a stock ICS or GB ROM and then re-root and add cwm and try again
the issue you face is because your version is the GT-N7000B and the build.prop is for the GT-N7000 so its failing because it believes the ROM is for a different device.
if the product codes do not match up in the build.prop it will fail - this applies to all devices and all ROMs.
you could also open the .zip and find the build.prop and change all of them, But its a pain in the ass !

Awesome! I am downloading the Gingerbread Australian Rom as we speak for the N7000. if i flash it with odin, root it, and then install CWM would it work with installing custom roms such as paranoid android etc?
Yes because the Stock firmware will remove the 'B' and you will have no more install errors
Be sure to follow the instructions to the letter !! and make a nandroid before commencing.

you can wipe before or after it makes no difference so long as your on GB.
Dont ever wipe on ICS unless your on a safe kernel.
But do do a wipe as it will start you off on a fresh clean install
