Sprint Is Onto Us (Only Logical Explanation) - Sprint HTC One (M7)

Ok guys, I'm an avid tether user. I've been tethering my ass off since I'm blanketed in LTE, but as of late I've run into a problem. I noticed on Ecliptic Sense 5.5 that while tethering, the data connection would drop constantly. I was on OMJ Sense 5.5 before and it didn't used to happen. I thought it was just an Ecliptic Rom error so I clean flashed OMJ Sense 5.5 only to notice tbd issue is now there! Someone then said that ports are known to do this so I decided to flash Tranquil 4.3 only to notice... THE ISSUE IS THERE ALSO! I think Sprint is doing this as a preventive measure to prevent tethering. They already blocked WiFi tether somehow and have now sniffed out our script for native tether. Can someone smarter than me (@FrozenRiff) hopefully elaborate on this?
I need to kill some people in GTA V really bad right now!

My tethering works just fine, but I don't abuse it like so many people do.If your using it to tether a console, then get a wired connection. Who would want to tether a console or rely on it for primary internet?

Why not? We've taken Sprint bull**** service for years! I'm blanketed in LTE so it's my choice.

If the terms of your contract say otherwise, then it's not technically your choice...just sayin'.
Also, are you sure they're not just doing tower maintenance or something? Not saying that's the reason, but just tossing that out there.

No because data doesn't drop UNLESS I'm using tether. Take a look at this logcat here. I don't know how to read them, but I uploaded this one for the smarter people

I haven't come across this with sprint, but with VZW (i'm still on unlimited data) once I would get over 30GB no matter which tether method I tried, it would always disable data, then enable over and over. Once I turned off tether it would work fine. Sounds similar, I never found a fix and it wouldn't work properly until the next billing cycle when my data counter reset to 0.

That's what mine does. Do you think that's what's going on? It never drops when not using tether
Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk 4

I have a different phone on vzw so it's not device specific apparently. This sucks, I'm moving to a Sprint LTE area next month and planned on making up for all this 3g nonsense lol
Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk

Yeah exactly what I was thinking as well, native tethering would connect my laptop on the road but no internet connection, but I could browse on my phone. Used wifi tether and worked perfectly...think they're figuring it out, on OMJ sense 5 ROM.

So you are stealing from a service that legit people pay for and when it stops for you you complain?
Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk

Sprint is the one stealing. Remember the premier benefits? Every year they seem to take more from long term customers and reward new ones instead. Their false LTE coverage map is a joke as well. The ones knowledgeable enough to enjoy the benefit of something that should be offered anyway are perhaps just trying to get their money's Worth out of their service.
Though you probably already have this number saved in your phone since you support them so much, here is sprint's number. You can call them and complain about us there since you won't change any of our minds here.

I'm up to 3GB of force roam data so far too. Screw ETFs.

LMFAO when did people start having a gun pointed to their heads to get a smartphone on Sprint? Anyone who is unhappy should have left in June or July when Sprint changed the contracts and ETF's were temporarily waived

Bunch of frickin cry babies around here. Leave Sprint get rid of the One. Go buy a iPhone or something. Geez
Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk

Not everyone knew they could get out ETF free during that time or sprint would have lost many thousands more customers. The ones that did had to fight for a while to get out. Force roam is pretty easy though.

Eh, getting rid of Sprint without ETF is as easy enough with a PRL change. Roam on VZW long enough and they boot ya.
As far as tethering/data goes, try an AOSP rom, CM10.2 or whatever floats your boat. I have a ONE on both Sprint and VZW (One's business, one's personal) and my crybaby boss set a 2gb cap on my VZW line. Needless to say, the cap doesn't ever kick in on AOSP, but on any stock-based rom (Sense) the data cuts out. Tethering on AOSP is pretty solid also.

Sprint is awful with their false 4g map.... worst 3g speeds i've ever seen in my life. It's atrocious even in MAJOR metropolitan areas.

Atrix HD & Straight Talk

I've had it with Sprint. Slow Internet, incompetent phone staff. I currently have the Motorola Photon on Sprint and am very happy with signal strength, call quality, battery life and reliability, which are the most important to me.
I did some research and and decided to go with an AT&T phone with Straight Talk AT&T Sim card.
I was going to wait for the iPhone 5 announcement, but I already know I won't pay $800+ for it out of contract and I dislike the move away from Google services.
I got my Atrix HD yesterday and my Straight Talk SIM today...(Otterbox Commuter too).
I set it up with all the Straight Talk APN settings and was happy with voice, but data was a bit clunky and the Speed Test & YouTube apps were not working.
I modified the APN settings:
From: PROXY: proxy.mvno.tracfone.com
To: PROXY: 66.209.11.33
Result:
{

Coming from Sprint where I was getting 3-8mbps on "4G" and 200-600kbps on 3G I am EXTREMELY pleased.
It seems the ATRIX HD has a less noise cancelling than my Photon as even moving my hand around on the phone can by heard by the caller.
I tried, really tried to use the stock apps (Homescreen, Dialer, Messaging)...I lasted 2 hours. I went to Nova, Dialer One & Handcent.
I hope activity picks up on the forum and I'm sure I'll be posting regularly...for awhile at least.
Just an update...
I was having trouble sending MMS and I called Straight Talk. They took their time 'checking' my account and had me read through the APN settings. I mis-typed a word and MMS was fixed after correcting it.
After I finished the phone call with Straight Talk, I noticed soon after my data speeds took a DUMP! I can't get the SpeedTest app to work, I cant send pictures in gmail & Facebook barely works. Google Navigation quit on me too!
The apps, like navigation will start loading data, then simply stall.
Web browsing however, works fine while the apps are not, sometimes its really slow.
I called Straight Talk again and asked if they changed anything and they said no. I asked if they block applications and they said no. They did say I was only guaranteed 'web browsing' and suggested the mobile websites instead of the app...it seriously seems as if something is being blocked.
I can't deal with apps not working. I barely 'browse' the web. I use gmail, Facebook, and occasional navigation. These MUST work 100% and they are not.
Unless I get a definitive answer and quick, I'm hopping onto a Share Everything Verizon Plan. It'll be $65 for 4GB...its $20 more, but I'm sure all the apps will work.
Im on straight talk too and no problems. Over at howard forums there is a theory that if your ip address starts 10.1 you are being throttled and if it starts 10.2 you are not, so power down your phone and remove sim for 30 seconds and keep trying until you get a different ip address that isnt throttled. I can confirm that mine currently starts with 10.2 and no throttle, the rest is all speculation.

I didn't have to unlock the phone at all. They support unlocked A&TT and T-mobile phones. They will send you a sim card that will work in unlocked mode. I just inserted it, adjusted APN settings and everything started working. I even receive a message: "welcome to [email protected]"

as far as the data goes with StraigntTalk, it's unreliable. IMHO any carrier who leases the lines from any major carrier cannot offer "unlimited" data. so obviously you are given leftovers of the bandwidth and throttled heavily.
I am using this service for two weeks and its ok. it works for now. lets see how it works in a month or so.
Ahh ok gotcha. Also I was planning on unlocking this for use on T-Mobile but with an actual T-Mobile micro sim. I forgot that straight talk would automatically work without having to sim unlock.
I need some help here also. I thought it was better to jump on his thread than starting my own. I have net10 with an atrix hd. I have tried every apn setting I can find on the net. I have even tried combinations of settings. Here are my problems.
#1 No mms
#2 I have data issues. My browser, apps, etc. will act like I do not have a data connection. Once I reload it will work. For example, my browser may work fine, or I may have to hit refresh 5 times on every link or site I go to. My speeds are fine once it starts transferring data, and it will continue transferiing once it starts, I just have to keep retrying the app or browser to make it start the transfer.
I have read something about at&t mvno data issues, I assume that is what I am running into. I am using the wap.tracfone apn. The at&t settings will not work at all with or without proxy. My next step is unlocking the phone and jumping over to net10 on the t-mobile side. My other option is to just buy a T-mobile phone and pop the other net10 sim in. Any input on this would be appreciated. I just want this to work, it is much cheaper! What course of action should I take? I want to cancel my sprint phone, I obviously can't until this is resolved.
Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give me. I have been using xda to solve all my problems for years, I have never had to ask a question before. I hope this isn't answered somewhere before that I missed in a search.....

Yes they are. Give it a try it should work.
I tried the other apn settings without any luck. Those entirely stopped data. I did buy sqlite and erased the at&t apn settings. That made mms work. I still had the internet issue. I paid for an unlock, for whatever reason they responded that they couldn't get my unlock code and refunded my money. I bought a galaxy note today, and have the same data issue. It must be something with the towers in my area. I paid a local company for an unlock code ($20) which I will receive tomorrow morning. I will put this phone on T-Mobile towers and be done with it. (I know I have to flash a new radio for 4g). Thanks for the responses guys, I appreciate your time.

Mms is working without any of the headache. It appears that my data issues were based on at&t in my area. I assume they aren't giving mvno's priority....

Outside of their LTE network, At&t doesn't prioritize their own customers.
Who knows.... I went from a very "refreshing" experiance on the at&t side at 3mbps download to a perfect experiance at 12mbps download on the T-Mobile side. I would post a link talking about it, but I haven't posted enough on xda to be allowed to publish links.

Seriously? I can run my AT&T Atrix HD on Straight Talk without having to pay for a Subsidy code?
Also I keep seeing people say they have Straight Talk SIMS from different carriers. I though they was only one source? Which one works the best for the Atrix HD and how do I go about getting it? I was planning on buying a SIM this Friday.

Better then Phoenix. They say its 9% complete and estimated completion is Q1 of 2014. GOOD thing is that they have applied for permits like crazy in the valley here and a couple sprint reps at different locations said they got "memos" saying it should be done around June, or atleast lit up then. Keep in mind Phoenix never got WiMax, they just dont like us here
I get like 2-15kB/s down and 10-25kB/s up with a 2500+ms ping all day till like 10pm when it starts getting faster and the ping drops. Pretty much makes the phone unusable during the day.

not without saying to much on your phoenix topic, but... There are NV towers done everywhere in phoenix as we speak, more then 9% believe it or not. theirs not a single lte signal at any of these locations because the backhaul isn't complete and hasn't been dated yet.. Soon as the backhaul is done the lte will come up fairly quickly.
Good example of deployment by area is portland, or/vancouver, wa market. Most of our locations will have LTE enabled due to having comcasts/century links fiber and internet runs to most of the locations in the areas, however in most of the rural areas this doesn't exist yet so they only have NV upgraded at this point (meaning its got LTE/800/CDMA upgraded just no backhaul to support its new system).
it is what it is, but the speeds are wonderful and worth it, trust me.. My tower by my work just went live 2 weeks ago, 1.2-1.5mbps on 3g, 10-35mbps on LTE.. Its beautiful.

I've been contemplating this as well. Considering the "28%" that's completed, and wherever it's available, it's spotty. It's gone just as soon as it connects. AT&T is pulling like 50mpbs down at my office, indoors. If I can get a steady LTE signal from Sprint, I might get 8-9mbps. I just can't see myself leaving my SERO plan right now. Especially with no other company offering unlimited data.

Well, the thing about WiMax is that it's intentions were to beat the rest of the providers to broadband-like internet on mobile devices. They did, but it was never really a long-term solution, and Sprint knew that. With LTE, they're still late to the game, but they're progressing. They should be progressing much faster, but they aren't.
first i work for a contractor who is responsible for this area ( one of the many ), we build mostly sprint sites, i mostly work out of new york, although i have had some news from my boss that jersey is the next spot with lots of jobs dont know if that bit of information helps but they are actually working on it...well having us work on it
All I know is, 4G LTE has been working in the bay area for a few months now, although it's still not officially available here according to Sprint. When I was down in Cupertino a few months ago, strong signal and I did a speed test and got great speeds. Now in my home (San Mateo) or in my office (SF), I'll see a weak 4G signal, but the speeds are god-awful. Even when I'm outside in the city and show full 4G, I'm lucky to see 2mbps download speeds via speed test. I hope it's all because they're still sorting out bugs here, because it's a huge disappointment right now.

Grip of death is worst than my old iPhone 4

I'll let the pics do the talking, both pictures where taken from the same spot inside my house. First pic was phone laying down on my bed, second pic is when I was grabbing the phone from the bottom

Mine drops calls when held in a lot less than the death grip. Sprint signal has always been marginal in my area but with this phone I need to be extra aware of how I hold it. I thought it was supposed to switch to the upper antenna during a call but I'm not sure...

Have you had any reception issues, or are you just looking at some bars?
The phone switches antennas to the top one when the bottom one has poor reception. Yeah, I can make this happen too, but I haven't had a single dropped or difficult call, so I'm not sure what the complaint is.

Try switching to EVRC-B as mentioned in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292530
Your dropped calls may go away.
I had this problem in a big way, especially with losing Wi-Fi if I rested my index finger on the top-right corner. Seems to have gone away by putting the phone in a $5 clear TPU cover of eBay. Protects the phone, prevents death grip, doesn't hide the beautiful design....win/win
What is the death grip? Is that when you grab your phone like a retard? Okay I'll make sure not to grab my phone like a retard.

Go back to iPhone 4 then, of wait that POS is now banned in the US lol

Knowing where the antennae are would do a great deal to avoid this problem. The top right corner is where the wifi radio is. Don't hold the phone there for better wifi reception.
There are two mobile network antennae on the phone. One runs along the bottom of the phone, while the other is from the top middle to top left. Both run all frequencies, and are on-the-fly interchangeable. Try not to cover both locations at the same time, and the phone will adjust to the proper antenna automatically.

Sure... Use Google. Apple can appeal the ruling and the white house has quite a bit of time to intervene, which I no doubt Obama will just as he has in the past. And what the hell does me posting something have to do with this? Lol... I was unaware that I shouldn't do that as I see people posting threads like that all the time... Either way it has nothing to do with the validity of what I said.

Quit arguing over irrelevant things.
Under what circumstances does one hold a phone in a "death grip?" I pretty much rest the phone on my pinky and lightly curve my fingers around the back. It's not safe, but it's what I'm used to. Maybe because my hands are smaller.
Wow, people are certainly defensive here, and don't want to admit their new phone has an issue. This is identical to the iPhone 4 death grip, which didn't always cause you to lose the signal completely, but drop it severely. It's not just the signal bars either, you can see the actual dBm reading is far worse while holding it.
Can you still make calls? Probably, but the majority of us use data these days. Comparing a 4 bar to 1 bar of Sprint 3G service makes a huge difference.
I have a Note 2, and I can tell you that no matter what way you hold it the signal strength doesn't vary by more than a couple dBm.
What are these bars of 3G you speak of? Bars and 3G dont belong in the same sentence unless you are using an iPhone.

So, the Dual-SIM HTC One is getting 4.2 right now...

It's not HTC. There are many parties involved when an update is released on a Carrier phone as opposed to a unbranded phone.

I appears that this update being pushed to the phones if China Telecom or some other Operators. The rough order is Google releases an update. OEMs get it working on theier hardware and add there stuff to it. Then the OEMs send it to unbranded phones and/or the Operators for them to put their stuff in it and test per thier networks. Then the Carriers push an update.
My guess here is that the Chinese Operators did not care to do much testing or what they did was fine, where as I read HTC was not happy with some of the firmware in the 4.2.2 update and have slightly delayed pushing thier's out. That seems awfully scary if an Operator is rushing something out.

You just dissed every American carrier that carries the One.
Even the sprint and Verizon GS4s received GE edition ROM ports, which has me going crazy. I'm seriously considering ditching my ONE for the GS4. Not to mention the signal for LTE on this phone is seriously getting to me in places I had perfect LTE with my GS3

No demanding. Just frustrated with HTC at this point. 4.2.2 was supposed to be out mid June. It is now July. I had confidence in the ONE but I'm losing it quickly and so are some other people. No projected date, statement, acknowledgment to customers. This is why I left the EVO LTE. I had a soft spot in my heart because of the original OG Evo but it is starting to leave.

[Conspiracy Theory] - VZN "so called leak"

I'm a firm believer that VZN and LG both couldn't get figure out a method to properly secure KK. I think the final OTA will have some method to ruin someone's day. My opinion, VZN is having fits over the old bootstack booting the ROM. I also figure they wanted the root method from ioroot to try to close it as well. Talk amongst yourselves ?
I just can't buy that there was an accidental slip up by both companies. Seems they setup a situation and decompile everything the devs post.

Definitely a possible... Tho our devs have skills that border on the magical, and the power of collective knowledge is a wonderful thing haha.
But as far as VZW's predicament, I have no doubt that someone watches these forums, and curses over the extra dollars they'll have to spend on keeping their big red fingers locked tightly around our phones. As to whether it actually delays their official OTA, I'm sure they have deadlines to meet (esp. where the bloatware vendors are concerned), but it would be anyone's guess.
I'm just thrilled we have these leaks period. Even if the official OTA seals up security holes, this leak means a big boost to VS980 custom development!
The new KK leak seems odd, especially when some of its not even working correctly. I'm kinda stuck now. Device can get into Download mode but it just locks there.

You ever think maybe they release it so devices get bricked and they gotta pay for new ones?
Well, if we're tossing out ideas...what if it got leaked so vzw could track who has 4.4 installed? Then they can red flag the rooters.
Today, I called to get a replacement. Speaker stoped working... she asked me if it was the original one I bought. I said Ya, then asked if I traded it or rooted it. I was Like, root? Lol...anyways, something on her end was flagging the phone. Of course, at the time of calling my phone was 100% stock. But I DID have 4.4 installed..replacement is in its way but still..more complicated then I expected

I don't really believe it, but I've seen some say VZW knows what apps you've installed. I saw a user once say they told him exactly what root apps he currently had. If that's true, some root app you've installed at some point may have flagged it. Or she was a liar. Lol. To be honest...once it was confirmed that you could downgrade and keep Loki on the other variants, I'm surprised LG didn't pull the Sprint rollout.
When the KK kernel source was "accidentally" leaked early after the devs were having problems with trying to create a zip rom from the KK leak and needed that info, that's is when my eyebrows were raised....lol. I was like, that's too much of a coincident. Somebody" was reading and listening to our cries....lmao. Nevertheless, thank you to whoever it was.

Serial number is hardware level. Not possible unless you actually were swapped. They don't check it until old one is sent back, which is why you are given a purchase clause on returns. I'll assume your account was a bit jacked up if she wasn't lying, otherwise, liar.
Maybe Verizon wanted to wait for the knock code update to release KK instead of releasing it and then putting out another update right away for knock code.

I don't know if it was necessarily a leak; I pulled it off their servers and published the link here one xda like a week back. It took us a few days but @xdabbeb found a way to trick our devices into taking that OTA. One thing I find suspicious is that it hasn't been taken down yet, which means it *might* be our official, it just hasn't had the green light yet. Also, the kernel source is still alive (direct link download) it just has the link removed.
Agreed. At the very least I think it was intended to be the official release. Whether they're holding off on pushing it to everyone because of a last minute issue they found or internal delays is anyone's guess. I tend to believe it's the latter.

Liar? About what lol what is there to lie about. It was just an interesting conversation that kind of applied to this thread. And by the way, when I said serial number I was referring to the IMEI which, like the mac address is supposed to be unchangeable and yet there have been cases where they changed. When I quit working for VZW a couple years ago, the systems we used listed all the software/update/PRL version info of the software you had installed on your phone. It seemed that a lot of that info was based on the updates your phone pulled from the servers, and I never saw anything that actually indicated root status. However, they are constantly updating their capabilities so I wouldn't put it past em. I am of the opinion that most manufacturers don't check all that closely for root, at least if the phone is on a stock rom. I have never actually heard or read online of a VZW customer whose phone got rejected purely because it was rooted.

I don't think it was rooting but maybe my update status. Example, my warranty date on the phone 2/4/2014. This is located in hardware information, hardware not software. I'll assume the warranty date is assigned the day you buy your phone. Now, it's changed. Point is, if that's changed what else could have changed
