First you have to make sure your phone is rooted.
Head on to the play store and download a file Explorer of your choice
Open the app, go to systems and open the app folder scroll down till you see the VVM.apk or Virtualvoicemail.apk
Rename the VVM.apk or Virtualvoicemail.apk to VVM.apk.bak or Virtualvoicemail.apk.bak

Set Phonebook as default

Hi,
I am trying to set the Phonebook app as my default contacts manager but of course it does not offer that option.
Anyone know whether it is even possible yet or if there is another app that can replace the stock contact manager.
Im really just looking for an easier way of scrolling through my contacts
For example iContact burt edition for windows mobile
i wish i could just find phonebook, its no longer in the market. im assuming it was removed so they could start charging for it.

it's not listed with the featured apps on mine and checking with others on the #android chan, they dont have it either.
Thats odd, I am looking at it right now maybe its because I already have it installed on my phone or because google has damned me for the time being and hasnt allowed me to see paid apps!
the featured apps right now are
Wertago, wikitude, personal safety, imap, klondike, blackjack, brain genius, pro football live, ebay, picsay, shopsavy, telegraph, bluebrush, bonsai blast, myspace.
pm me the apk of it if you would!
I would love to have the phonebook apk back, if anyone could pm me as well.
Here's phonebook app.
Here you go, just rename it back to .apk and install.

dude, you FREAKIN rock !
thank you!
So it cant actually be set as default? maybe in future updates
I think it can not be set as default at this moment. I have searched for this answer a lot, but found nothing.
jus delete your orginal phonebook, back it up first, thats what i did
Where do you find the downloaded apk from the market?
I can't compare to Phonebook, because it's been so long since I've used that app. Acontacts (totally free) is the most full featured contact app on the market IMO, and allows you to set as default when you press the call button. Good call log which can be set default and very responsive dev, as well.
Another one I've recently tried is Easy Dial Pro (ya I know Pro usually means $, but it's free, also). I heard about it in a thread here. Not quite used to it yet, but it seems really good when I played around with it. The call log may be better than aContacts. Again, you can set Easy Dial and Easy Call Log as defaults.
Hope this helped.
When you press the call button it will come up with "Launch using Dialler/Phonebook" tick the "Always use this program for this function" tickbox and select Phonebook.
If that doesn't come up then you have the dialler set as default go into applications > manage applications and then click on dialler, press the clear defaults button.

Anytime you install a new application that can be set as default, you are always prompted for which option you would like until you default it in the checkbox. Last time I tried to clear stock dialer default (user error), there was no option (donut drc63) so I had to un/reinstall my dialer app to get the list back.

Market Fix for Leaked Froyo

Install it via rom manager or clockwork. Backup prior to doing so.
If things do not show up immediatly, try installing some random app and see if it populates then.
Otherwise, it will happen the next time the market data sync with the phone.
http://www.4shared.com/file/yHlfPvuv/fingerprint_froyo.html
are there any reasons not to do this? will this lead to bad dependencies? incorrectly installed applications?
What problems can this cause? Is this fixable?

A. This isn't Redhat, circa 1997. Android doesn't work that way.
B. Either they install, or they don't.
C. Problems it can cause? It can prevent Incredible only and/or Verizon only applications from showing up. I don't forsee that being an issue, ever so...
This is a simple build.prop change so that the market will show all paid apps.
Before:
ro.build.fingerprint=verizon_wwe/inc/inc/inc:2.2/FRF91/212490:user/release-keys
(Market: wtf is this?)
After:
ro.build.fingerprint=google/passion/passion/mahimahi:2.2/FRF91/43546:user/release-keys
(Market: Oh hai, Nexus One!)
Thanks
This worked for me and I got the Documents to Go paid version which was the only thing that I was needing. I had some problems with it kicking me off the network and having to use wifi to connect. After a reboot I was back on the network though so I don't know if that had anything to do with adding this.
Out of curiosity is there a way that I can go back to what it was so that when the market gets fixed it would work like it is suppose to? I saw in the build.prop file what you changed and thought I could just change that back but I wanted to ask before I did.
Thanks so much for this.
This will break custom boot animations?

Thanks for this, one of my paid apps wasn't showing up, this did the trick!
Ok the reason I asked was because someone in ##incredibleroot said it would cause problems
Did they specify what?
Random text about causing problems from someone in IRC without a reason of what or why is pretty worthless.

To have the market checkin right away do the following so you don't have to wait or download any other BS apps.
1. Open the Phone app
2. Dial *#*#CHECKIN#*#* (2432546) ** When you type the last "*" what you typed will disappear.
3. Wait for the message on the notification bar to say "checkin succeeded."
4. All paid apps that were missing should be available.
Thanks.

I guess I'm the only one that has great streaming audio quality. I use Pandora and even before changing the audio quality setting to "High" it didn't sound bad. I wonder what that is that makes it hit or miss on these devices.
Anyways, I just wanted to point out that the AAC fix really slows the phone down a bit. It changed my quadrant scores from 1200's down to 790-800.
Just a FYI.
P.S. Thanks for the Market fix!
i have the htc music widget on my homescreen. after installing the update with the streaming audio fixes whenever i reboot my phone my music starts playing automatically. now when i remove the widget and reboot the music doesn't play.

[Q] GV audio playback issue with stock sound player

I have a Droid Maxx with 4.4.4 but don't think this issue is hardware or OS related, as it worked fine up until about 7-10 days ago. No OS updates.
So I have a few work-related Google accounts on my phone that are tied to a few different Google Voice numbers. When a voicemail is left on one of the numbers, I get a transcript and audio link email sent to that account's GMail. I can open the message and see the transcript and have the 'Play message' link. But when I open the Play message link, it opens Chrome and then asks me to Choose an action. My only options are Camera, Camcorder, Sound Recorder and Documents. I can't choose the stock audio player, nor any 3rd party MP3 player apps that I've downloaded trying to solve this problem.
When I used to do this it would either download the message where I could open it from the status bar at the top, or it would download and automatically play the MP3-format voicemail in the stock audio player. If I go to the app launcher and go to Downloads and pick an older voicemail and tap on it, it immediately starts to play with the stock app. So that tells me that the stock app is still installed and still plays audio files.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
I don't mean to bump my own thread, but any ideas? I can provide any technical information you'd like.
Thank you
Well, you're in the Droid Turbo subform. I was just about to tell you to go check out the Droid Maxx subform just to realize there isn't one?! How did that happen?
In any case, it almost seems like you aren't being linked to download a file; it sounds like you're being asked to UPLOAD a file, which is weird. Can you download the file on your PC by following the link in the email?

Hi Ekkoria, thanks for replying, and yes I figured this forum would be the "closest" to the Maxx since there isn't a dedicated section.
When I open the link on a PC, it opens a new tab that embeds the audio and plays the voicemail, so it doesn't appear to me that Google Voice has changed anything with the way the process and send out their audio in emails.
Here is a screenshot of what I get when I click on the "Play Message" link and then Chrome opens: (i dot imgur dot com/Ke6hLDL dot png)
I hate factory resets and hope there is a simple solution.
Thanks

The link is to an mp3 file then? Hm. I'm not entirely sure what to tell you, I don't really think a factory reset would help. Have you tried another browser by any chance?

Well, the issue is fixed though I can't give an exact reason, other than the most recent OTA update seemed to fix it. So, if you experience this issue, I guess make sure your software is up to date.

I installed the Volte status remove download and it worked last night and this morning but when I got to work I noticed the icon was back but now it is black instead of white. I haven't downloaded or installed anything else. No other themes and still on the stock theme from Samsung. It really isn't a big deal but I just thought I would mention it and see if anyone else had that happen. I do not have the best signal at my house and will go between 1x, 3g and 4g all during the day but at work I am always on 4g so I wonder with it switching if it caused the Volte icon to reappear. I did re-flash it thru Flashfire and the icon went away again.
Edit. Just made my 1st phone call since last night and now native call recording is gone. I know it was there last night because I tested it on a call after flashing it. I am going to re-flash it again but not sure why both of these mods are disappearing when nothing else has been downloaded or installed. Once again not a big thing just wanted to mention it. I appreciate all the hard work being put into this phone from everyone!
Have you seen the Dual Speaker Mod? Confirmed to work on Verizon N7. You can add it to the list as well.

Disable Shutter sound?

Hey,
I had to buy a new phone (P10 VTR-L29) in Japan and I have an japanese SIM card. Japanese phones and SIM cards always make the shutter sound. By rooting my phone and by flashing a magisk module, I could delete the shutter sound for whatsapp and other apps. But the stock camera still makes the sound. Is there a way to disable it? There is no option in the camera app to turn off the shutter sound.
Thanks!
Go to settings o f the camera app then scroll down find the mute settig then enable it.

Like I already said: "There is no option in the camera app to turn off the shutter sound."
There should be mute in the settings (drag from right in camera app).
I haven't yet rooted this phone so can't be sure but there should be somewhere in "system/media/audio/ui" to find the camera .ogg files and either rename so you can easily put them back or delete. I would just rename to play safe camera_click.ogg.backup or something (for all camera sounds).
Obviously remember to backup before fiddling in /system

In the attachments is a screenshot of my settings.
I also replaced the system/media/audio/ui files by flashing a magisk module. It worked to some extent. Snapchat, whatsapp and so on won't make a sound, but the stock camera app still makes a sound.
So I am guessing that Huawei hardcoded this setting into the stock camera app if you bought it in Japan.
Maybe someone can extract their stock camera app so I can install it on my phone?

I wouldn't imagine be hardcoded into apk. If you are rooted there is no reason I can see you not being able to turn it off. I would try changing all the sounds off manually rather than through module in case is slightly different names or something, only verified working for Lineage.
Also I think you can change the camera names in build.prop
As I say I haven't rooted this so can't be sure where it is, what it's called or indeed even if there is something there.
