[DISCUSSION] LG G2 ROM for Nexus 5 - Nexus 5 General

Since the Nexus 5 is the sister phone of the LG G2, I was hoping that a Dev could port a ROM over. This was done with the nexus 4 and the Optimus G so I guess its possible but a lot of work for whoever wants to go for it.

I think this is something that you need to gauge interest from the community and then find a dev. Perhaps a poll on the general forums?

Because one of the biggest reasons why I got the Nexus 5 was the multitude of ROMs being developed for it.

Ok, sounds great, get a g2. Why get a nexus and put ****ty software on it......

I would argue against that statement. While heavy, you cannot deny many features are very useful, such as quickmemo, floating video player, and the sexy ripple effect.

Hopefully it'll happen one day & yea I would like to run a ROM like that on my nexus. The more the merrier. Its a nexus it could happen endless possibilities

I wouldn't count on it, the Galaxy Nexus was the sister phone of the S2 and we didn't really get a touchwiz port (or at least a fully functional one, we got a few VANILLA based touchwiz Roms which were just AOSP that looked like touchwiz), and likewise for the Nexus 4, no LG ROM (again there was probably a really small dev project that ended up with a really bad port).
Anyway, point is, when you don't see an LG G2 ROM for the Nexus 5 I wouldn't throw the finger at Google or at XDA or at the developers.

Optimus G port for nexus 4 was ****. In alfa stage since beginning. Then no development at all. So I doubt there will be any functional G2 port for N5.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk

That being said I understand the amount of ROMs that a phone has is good...but why on Earth would we want to go back to anything like Sense, Touch wiz UX, or whatever LG calls their Android skin?
I thought owning a Nexus to go AOSP was part of the freedom. Anyways...if you do like the look of any ROM, there's tons of themes on XDA and the Market that mimic the exact look of other skinned Android distros.

I think you missed some of the point of the OP. Getting the N5 to look like a LG G2 isn't the problem, they want some or all of the functionality of the G2. Yes some may think that the UI is crappy, and they are entitled to their opinion. But then they're those of us who who do not share that same sentiment. I have both phones and while I like them both for the uniqueness, I use the G2 as my daily driver because of its functionality.
Sent from my LG-D801 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

Good God no.
I understand that Android is about having choice, but at least pick the RIGHT choice. LG's bloated, uglier-than-Touchwiz skin will never be the right choice.

You should keep in mind though iOS 6 has added some major new features. Nevertheless, Google releases new features with every release of Android.

iOS was ok while people were transitioning to smartphones.
But, now that everyone's grandparents can rock a smartphone its useless unless you have a hard on for Apple stuff. Even jail broken you can't do as much with a brand new iPhone as you can with even an antiquated Android phone.

There is no generator for the "we need a new idea" meme.
Gentlemen, we need a new idea for the new iPhone
inovate
5 rows
I'm disappointed by the lack of innovation with the new iPhone and iOS 6. I've always kept an eye on the iPhone, and has pretty much always been in my shortlist of phones simply because it is easy to use and so integrated. Sure it may have lacked features that were available on android and lacked customisation, but customisation isn't regular Joe Bloggs cup of tea.
As far as I can tell, it isn't enough of an upgrade to be considered a 5, more like a 4GS. huge disappointment, guess Samsung, HTC and windows 8 phones can breathe a sigh or relief that this incantation of the iPhone is utter wÄnK in comparison to the competition.
Has there been any benchmarks for the new A6 chip?

What happened to the semi mythical 4.2.2 update

I know I saw something about how an Android 4.2.2 was supposedly seen in India or China or somewhere far from the US and all sorts of speculation arose. Now nada. All for nothing I assume. Is there any real information out there about a bug fixe release date?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Xparent Purple Tapatalk 2
Nope, haven't heard anything more on the subject either... no idea if we'll still get it or if we will get a more recent update (maybe even the fabled 5.0 Key Lime Pie).
Before the big G announces something though, everything else is pure speculation... for the time being.
I hear 4.2.2 will ship on the next wave of Nexus 4's, due in March.

i doubt there will be a new device launched at IO they only just launched and sorted out their supply issues of N10 and N4. i reckon they will give out white versions of the N4 at IO like shown in the leaked photos, and MAYBE the nexus 7 refresh will appear; releasing a new phone now will kill sales of the N4 and it wont happen nexus 5 or w/e it will be will be seen around sept/nov like every previous phone.

Most likely few people outside of Google have the Nexus 4 4.3 version. That is probably why you rarely see leaks with Nexus devices. Probably there are quite a few people outside of Google testing 4.3 on the GE phones. So it makes sense there was a leak. It sounds like 4.3 is going to hit soon anyways.
It will come when it comes. If 4.3 is almost ready for the sgs4 and the one it is probably ready to go for the nexus line as well.
Its not like we are hurting for good ROMs and kernels for this phone and need 4.3 to make are phones usable.

Some of people would also rely on developers and just wait for them to fix bugs in stock rom, but imagine that untested or not tested enough build is released today for nexus 4, we all know how many stupid threads about "how google could release builds like this" woukd be created so people have to decide, if they want android quicker, or more bugless

One never seen that list of supposed specs anywhere else. I don't trust this source, but I guess it could be legit. But I doubt it, Google won't release another Nexus until it's ready to release 5.0 IMHO

Their ability to create an entire sweater from a single tiny thread astounds me.

Don't believe everything you see on the internet. Unless it comes from the manufacturer themselves, it's most likely bulls**t.
The white nexus 4 production stopped as it was only limited, the regular black nexus 4 is still in production.
Only the white 8gb version if I'm not mistaken, watched it in Pocketnow.

Not doubting you, but the N4 is 4.7". If Google wants to simplify it that would be very confusing to those that don't know. For a phone, 0.7" is a huge difference.
And besides, the nexus phone lineup is already on its 4th gen. Makes sense for the tablet series, but not for the phone. Plus, what if they come out with an 8" tablet? Nexus 8.1 sounds like older specs than say a Nexus 7.2.
Where did you get this info from anyway?

"This week Google revealed that it was sold out of white Nexus 4 handsets, and instead of offering preorders until more stock becomes available, the firm removed the pearly smartphone from the Google Play store."
