I've just tried installing Meow kernel onto my Xperia Z. I'd had the Cyanogenmod 10.1.3 ROM installed with the Clockworkmod recovery.
Meow doesn't work for me, all of the colours are messed up and it would seem the screen resolution is too.
I thought I could then get back into Clockworkmod and restore my backup. But I can't get back in! When I try to go into recovery mode, all I get is a great big battery symbol.
What can I do? I can see the device from linux when I run lsusb. Emma on Windows can't see the device, but I can explore the files on it.
Is there anyway to force Clockworkmod back on there and get at my backup?
I just found that by pressing the up key whilst it was on the meow boot screen it gave me a menu system that allowed me (complete with touch screen) to install a ROM from my SD Card.
I've just been able to reinstall Cyanogenmod! That was heartstopping for a while!

Tryed this?
Edit:I was a second to late
By the way, I had installed a kernel that was incompatable with CM 10.1.3. It requires CM 10.2!

I flashed the Tayutama 1.0.3 captivated ROM, then I used the clockwork recovery to replace the glass lock screen by the Froyo stock one.
Now the phone automatically boots to the clockwork recovery screen, tried to take the battery out but no use.
I still can boot to download mode, but the point is that I left something important in the old system, and now it seems I can't take it out because of this bug.
Any idea?
Fixed it. Here's the tips for people who have the same problem as mine:
1. Use clockwork create a backup.
2. One click flash
3. Install Tayutama's ROM
4. Use clockwork again, choose "Advanced restore" and "restore DATA"
It should work.

Did it wipe your data? Or is it in a backup? You could ADB pull the file/information if its a picture or file .... IF you didn't wipe your SD Card.
Also you could attempt to find Tyutama 1.0.3 ROM and find the stock lock screen and try and push it back on and see if your phone reboots.
But rule of thumb:
Always put a backup of whatever your about to screw with on your SD Card. You can use root explorer/ADB/Little Green Men to do it.. doesnt matter how you get the file.. important thing is to have it on the SDCard.
When it fubars you can always (usually) copy the backup back to the location where you fubard it - and *voila* your phone should boot right up.
I have done this (countless) a few times and have always been able to restore the phone to have it boot up enough for me to either re-flash or go on my merry way.
Good luck.
Well, i wanted to change my rom, CM 7.2, with DjangoManouche 1.2 and used the rom below..i backed up, and when i started flashing, it said that"this is not a ROM"..i..kind of panicked and after a minute, when i seen "nothing moves" i removed the battery. When i tried to start the phone, it only shows the LG logo..but does not boot(i waited for just 1-2 minutes..). I hope someone could help me.

I recall reading something about using NVFlash to force the stock rom on and allowing to recover from a bricking.
I'll defer to someone with experience in fixing bricked phones though.
Thank you...now..it wont even start, even when i plug-in the charger..it had pretty low battery..i am pretty ducked..
You have to reflash it with KDZ recovery method. Look up google and you'll get it working. I did this the first time too (what a bad joke to say "this is not a ROM")...
I'm sure you can still enter Cwm if you hold down volume- while pressing power button until it the Cwm menu appears.
Sent from my Optimus 2X using xda premium
First of all, don't worry, O2X is pretty unbrickable...at least in the level you're messing with it!
If you have recovery installed, you should be able to reboot into recovery : press and hold vol down button, then power button until you see blue halo of LG. before that, download another ROM and put it in your external SDcard. Flash that ROM.
You can also download and flash the original firmware of LG by using smartflash. You can find those in ANDROID DEVELOPMENT section!
Also check KDZ recovery!!
Thank you..it worked with recovery mode..i had back-ups. I got a bit scared because when i pressed vol_dwn+ shut down button..after i release the 2nd button, it turned off...but i menaged to make it. Again, thank you for help.

The common mistake for new people is that they restore entire nandroid backup after flashing ROM. CWM doesn't have option to backup DATA only, so you have to restore DATA from nandroid backup using Titanium Backup etc.
Try this:
1. Restore into fully functioning ROM(+data) if you don't have already
2. Reboot to recovery
3. Format /system
4. Flash new ROM
5. Clear cache and dalvik cache
6. Check if phone successfully boots
7. Flash Gapps if needed.
8. DO NOT DO ANY RESTORES AFTER STEP 1!!
9. If it doesn't work out, try another ROM. There may be some error with the file!!
So i wanted to update to cm10.2 (from 10.1) , i am using a i9000 and clockwork mod recovery.
I wiped the relevant caches, formated /system then flashed the file from my sd card. Everything seemed to work alright (no errors) , but now the phone wont boot on its first attempt (longest i have left it so far is about 20 mins).
The main issue here is that i cant boot into recovery from it being off. I have tried volume down and power (i believe this is the correct combo) , all i get is the samsung galaxy s splash screen over and over (flashing every 3-4 seconds).
So what is the best way to proceed from here? (in order to just go back to cm10.1 probably), shall i use odin or something to reflash cwm? or to flash cm?
EDIT : i do have a backup which i made with cwm before the flashing, and have extra copies and whatnot. So how would i go about getting cwm to work again?
Im not quite sure what to do at the moment, any advice would be handy.
Thanks in advance
right , well edit didnt work.
I was using the wrong combo of buttons and have managed to get into cwm, so ill just give the install another go, before restoring my backup i guess.

PROBLEM IS SOLVED. since i managed to boot to cwm properly.
Turns out that cm10.2 is laggy as **** on my device, and so im restoring back to how it was , a shame XD

So I was running a cm 10.2 nightly (late december) and today decided to try the new CM11 ones.
I download it and try to install it through the standard cm updater, when it reboots to CWM I get the famous "status 7" error.
I didn't think much of it and selected reboot now, then was presented with the "root permisions possibly lost want to fix now" message, I hit go back.
Ever since then, my device has been on a boot loop. After I re entered CWM I selected the option to fix the root permissions and after some attempts to start the phone again I did a factory reset&wipe cache which didn't help at all.
I have a backup on my computer of stock 4.1 rom but I don't know if/how I can use adb push while on CWM or bootloop to transfer it to the phone. I may be able to use a card reader to put it on the micro SD card and will try it tomorrow because I have to sleep now.
My CWM version is 6.0.3 and not 6.0.4, not sure if that caused the problem but I read that to update to CM11 you need the 6.0.4 version.
Any help to unbrick my phone would be greatly appreciated.
You've answered your own question as to the cause. People on here don't normally say things like "CWM v6.0.4.4 or newer required" just for fun.
As for getting the phone back, search and read.
Yeah I read that after I had bricked my phone, trying to load my backup to external sd right now.
I need your help
my phone (running on cm11) boots to the cyanogenmod logo and then nothing happens. So i thought about putting the stock rom back on it. However, i have just a mac right now...(mac os x 10.6.8)
and i can't access cwm recovery (i had it installed via the rommanager app)
any ideas how to solve my problem?

Got ,after 500 failed tries, into CWM recovery :victory:
backuped to stock and yes i'm happy
idk how to close this tho
Don't worry, I reported so an OP can close the thread, although you can also just let it die (by not posting )
I'm glad you got it working
