I have been testing the N1 for a few days, and just making sure there aren't any hardware issues before I void the warranty (possibly) through unlocking the bootloader and flashing a ROM. I would like to know if it is possible to revert to a factory settings ROM with exactly the "out of the box" settings and OS.
Backup: Unlock, install a RA-nexus recovery, save current ROM to SD, save settings with a backup app.
Restore: Start RA-nexus, recover ROM from SD, do factory settings wipe.
Is this correct?
Currently you can't relock the bootloader, you can revert everything apart from this. It does void your warranty but apparently HTC have been decent about fixing rooted N1s with hardware defects anyhow.

As @nDrg said, you can't relock the bootloader, but you can restore the phone completely to the stock ROM... download the EPE54B stock ROM, rename it to PASSIMG.zip, copy it to the SD card, enter bootloader mode. The phone will find the zip and ask you if you want to apply the update... this will restore everything to the stock EPE54B ROM
Didn't work for me, please help...
Hello,
I tried to place the above listed file on my SD (tried the one from the link on your sig, and one from another source) and could not get it to recognize the file from bootloader, nor could I flash it from zip (via recovery).
I have been searching for a way to revert to stock ROM for days now (and I have been researching) and I can't seem to find a way that I can get to work. (I am running both cyanogenmod 5.06, and modaco's sense - switch back and forth with the RA revovery screen). I can't connect reliably to wifi on either, and want the option to go back to stock.
I'm very much new to Android (and the Nexus) thus I'm probably just missing some things that are obvious to more advanced users.
I was hoping that you might be willing to post a step by step guide to reverting to stock for newbies? (Explain each step, eg. I barely know what fastboot is). Or, do you know of a guide that you could point me (and others I'm sure) to?
One might ask why I rooted and modded my device when I did not understand enough of what I was undertaking to reverse the process. One would be absolutely correct in such a question! That being said, if anyone is willing to help, it would be much appreciated.
Thanks so much,
Randy
Just curious why you'd want to go back to stock?

I do love both cyanogenmod and modaco's sense rom, but I haven't been able to connect via wifi on either for quite awhile (though normal network connection works fine). To be more specific, if I have been able to connect via wifi without the sim card in the phone, but not with it inserted.
As well, it seems like a good idea to be able to revert to stock if I did need to (stock updates, etc.) and I'd like to try wifi with stock, to see if it's the phone or the ROM. (My fault for not figuring out how to do this before I modded )
Thanks so much,
Randy
if u want to go completely back where u still receive ota (minus the locked bootloader that u can't change that its unlocked) u can download the signed secure nexus 1 Rom from modaco and then flash the boot, system, and recovery.img though fast boot go to nexus one forum and search rolling back to stock Rom it gives detailed instructions on how to do it I did it to make sure it works and was simple it is and u even get ota updates from Google hope this helps if u need any help just send me a pm good luck let us know how it goes

Whenever I flash custom ROMs I have several problems. One of them is random rebooting. This isn't the problem with the stock ROM. Another problem I have is not receiving messages. If I flash back to a stock ROM I receive tons of messages that I didn't get while I had the custom ROM installed. I have tried re flashing the custom ROMs several times. The question is has anyone had this problem, and how can I fix this?
my question to you is what custome roms are you flashing that is a start and then i can help
i will check when i wake up there had better be a list

Need to know what ROM's you are attempting to flash.
What version of phone do you have? Pull the battery and look at the white
label and tell me the build # of that phone. It's a 4 digit number (I.E. mine is 1008) If it is a 1008 - this is a known issue - and you'll need to test by going back to STOCK and seeing if the issue continues. If it does - you will need to warranty replace it.
The "tons of missing messages" means that the flash of the custom ROM didn't work right.
Best thing you can do to fix these issues - make sure you are installing the custom ROM correctly - make sure to follow the "chef/dev's" instructions before flashing the ROM.
Also.. if you go to the Q&A sticky it will point you to all sorts of different information - I would look at the "How to install a custom ROM" sticky in the dev section.

My last IMEI numbers are 4486, and my build number is 1008.
I have been flashing Darky 7.01 up to 7.7 and perception. Before installing the ROMs I flash back to stock firmware and I do a master clear.
I have a hard time believing that the ROM is just flashing wrong because I have tried this around 10 different times. Each time I get a removed SIM error,

10,9.9, and 9.5.
Try running Assonance and see if you get the same issue.
And.. Build 1008's (my build btw) is known to have random shutdown issues.
Mine is very specific - when I fully charge my phone to 100% it won't stay up until the battery drains back down to around 85% then no more shutdowns.
Will need to warranty your phone for replacement if it is still doing this while stock. I'd recommend flash back to stock - DO NOT ROOT - just run the phone for a day or so with a full charge and see if it is still shutting down. If it is.. then you will need to have it replaced.
And I randomly get "no sim card found" errors with i9000 roms after a reboot. I just turn airplane mode on/off and all is good afterwards.
I don't seem to have any problems with stock firmware

Hi all,
I've been unable to find a post about this for quite some time so I decided to make a threat about it.
I have a recurring problem with my captivate. Usually after about 2 weeks of using a ROM my phone will have 2 issues pop up simultaneously. They seem to always happen together. It seems to happen after my phone shuts off and will not turn back on until I battery pull. Once I do that I am presented with these two issues:
1.) When I try and toggle Wifi it attempts to then simply says "error" underneath it. I have found a few threads about this but no answers
2.) Upon installation OR restoration of any app with Titanium Backup my phone does a soft reboot (goes to spinning CM logo or for ICS goes to the multicolored squares flying around).
Edit: On the newest MIUI it now says "insufficient storage available" instead of rebooting when I try to install an app after the issues crop up, wifi "error" is still the same
I've had these same 2 issues occur with CM7 Stable, RC, and many nightlies, MIUI, and TeamHacksung's ICS build. I believe it may have happened with cognition too but am not positive.
I do not restore any data with TB. Before each flash I wipe system, cache, dalvik, and do factory reset and still this issue occurs without fail after about 2 weeks on any ROM and the only fix I have is to flash a new one.
Nandroid backups DO fix the problem. If anyone is willing to look through logs or something and see what was different I would be eternally grateful and certainly send you something through PayPal
Any help is greatly appreciated and I am willing to try anything at this point. Thanks!

Nah this is the right place. That's a very strange problem you're having though, and I don't know what the exact solution is, if there even is one for this. The only thing I can suggest is going back to stock, and then reinstalling CM7 or whatever you want

Well happened again on newest MIUI. Gonna go back to stock and start over. I'll update the thread if it does or does not happen again.
Unfortunately after using Odin to go back to stock and rerooting/flashing it happened again on the most current build of MIUI. I'm currently at a loss for what to do. Has anyone heard of or seen anything like this?
Thanks in advance

Just curious, have you tried leaving it stock and seeing if it happens on a pure stock ROM? If so it could be a defect with the phone?
If you flash back to pure stock and the issue doesn't come back, maybe try a custom ROM that's closer to stock, not a CM or MIUI or ICS build. I haven't seen this issue, just trying to suggest some solutions.
I had this same problem with my fascinate. I flashed 1.10.21 MIUI follwed by glitch 13.1. This combination used to work, or so I thought. I flashed back to stock, 1.12.1 then a different package of glitch 13.1 and my wifi started working again. I know the captivates and fascinates are somewhat different, but try this out and see if it works.

I guess I could try that, I just like CM7/MIUI so much. Another thing that happens is many different applications start FCing after the problems all begin.
I tried to restore to a nandroid backup I had made before it happened this time and I received an MD5 mismatch which I believe happened last time I tried to restore...
New info:
I have not realized this before but it seems that I start getting a message that says, "Google Talk Authentication Failed", around the same time. Also FCs happen much more frequently. Is there anything I could be doing to cause this?
New Info
Just going to keep this updated with things I have tried in case anyone ever searches for this that has this issue:
Full format of SD card and odin back to stock did not prevent the issue from cropping up on the DarkKnight3 ROM with Icy Glitch. At this point I can only assume it is somehow hardware relatedl
Hello guys,
I have a samsung gt-i9000 with cyanogen 10.1.3 and a few days ago I had experienced some problems, the home button stopped working. I tried quite a few things, based on the info I found on this site and others (like factory reset), but no joy.
SO I thought to myself, better reflash the ROM, but to be honest, if I do that, I might as well install the latest one (10.2.1), and so I decided to do that, but before I start I have a few questions:
I had a look around but I couldn't really find a definite answer to the following questions, so I thought I might post here.
1)Has anybody encountered any issue on the gt-i9000 with the latest ROM?
2)Can I backup all my apps, upgrade the ROM and then reinstall everything from the backup, rather than downloadeing all the apps again? I have never done that before, so I am not sure if it is possible
3)I had a look at the cyanogen mode site and found the relevant info http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_galaxysmtd, but I was wondering something: occasionally on my phone a message appears
and asks me whether I want to update the ROM to the latest available one. I have always dismissed that, but I am thinking, can I do the upgrade from there without going through the trouble of reflashing
it (following the instructions above), or is it essentially the same thing?
4)In the instructions it says "The install guide assumes the Galaxy S is running Android 2.3.". Now, last time I have upgraded - from cyanogen 7 to 10.1 - I attempted to install directly 10 over 7 and things
went horrible wrong. I then reflashed the ROM to 2.3 and then installed cyanogen 10.1 and it was OK. DO I have to do the same thing again and install 2.3. first and then 10.2? If so where do I get 2.3 from?
Thanks
Sorry, can somebody move this under questions, just realized that this isn't the right place.

1) Didn't use CM, been on OmniROM
2) You can use Titanium Backup
3)Yeah, you could do that, update it via CMUpdater
4)Just before you install a ROM with a higher android Version, always wipe /system partition.
cool thanks!
I have just recently restarted using this phone due to my uscellular S4 getting turned off. I am now back on my LG-P990 currently rooted and running CM10.1. BUT most importantly to me is the fact that I have all my wonderful apps on my s4, I want to be able to use them by using the LG phone as a tether and calls not much else BUT CM10.1 tethering does not work, so i find myself flashing rom after rom, avatar rom, older CM mods, none would turn on tethering, so i flashed a modded version of MIUI for this phone and it worked except for ONE thing no signal, tethering turned on just fine so i decided to look around for other roms and found Slimrom TRYED to flash it didnt work, try to flash actual MIUI roms off there site, didnt work, met with an error in CWM Recovery after some searching I found its because Im running the OLD Bootloader -_- THIS is the issue im having IF MIUI does NOT work is it possible to downgrade the bootloader again so i can restore my CM10.1 backup? I have been working at this for a week, if there is something here about this can someone please just point me at it? I would appreciate any help.
On a side note i DID soft brick the phone the other day and found a program called nvflash witch flashed an install of CM mod. Dont know if that will help any.

I really do not understand how other ROMs deny Tethering. Did you flash the latest 2.x kernel by pengus77 after installing the rom? Did you make a clean install(wipe everything then install)? On the other hand, yes you can switch bootloaders as much as you like, just remember that changing the bootloader wipes everything on your internal memory, so do a backup. Did you try just plain old stock 4.0.4? Should work there. Ask anything you want, if you're still having questions.

As to the flashing to stock i lost the original rom backup i had made along time ago and cant find the original firmware anywhere online. When I flashed CM 10.1 I just ran with it, when i go to try tethering it says "Turning on portable wifi hotspot." and it stays on that no matter what untill i restart, left the phone running for 2 days once and that was still stuck on that before i restarted. As for flashing a 2.x kernel i had no idea about that. But yes when i did the installs i would do a clean wipe and install. Most of what i read online led me to believe that there was an error with CM 10.1 nightlys that was not being fixed for the tethering. So that is why i decided to go to another rom. Two questions one how do i go about finding the original firmware for this phone and two how would i go about updating or downgrading the bootloaders and could i be pointed to the files please?

Okay, This is SFSP by @sgspluss which is a pretty fast, stable and battery-friendly slimmed down version of stock ICS. It is available for both Old and NewBL, so you might want to try that first. This is AIO Toolkit. I know that you've used it and bricked your phone, but try again, and for the love of God install the nvflash drivers because most people skip that part. You have to do it manually and if you're running Windows 8 you need to disable Driver Signature Verification. But yeah, you switch bootloaders with this.
