[Q] what class card for CM? - Nook HD, HD+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought a class4 for my new HD thinking that class best as with my older nook tablet. But I just noticed the user guide says class 6 is supported. BUT....is it supported (and STABLE) with CM? I may be able to return the class4 as I didn't open it yet. Especially if class6will speed it up quite a bit? Advice please?

No, keep the class 4. It is best.

Thanks. Since the B&N Nook HD+ User Guide only listed Class 6 (not higher or lower) for sdcard spec, I wasn't sure a Class 4 would work. But thanks for verifying that's not an issue.

Was wondering if this card like this will work in my Nook HD before I order one. Seems to be a pretty good price I think.

Great price on Amazon! Picked up the exact same card last week and am using it in my Nook HD+. I have been running CWM10.1 PureSD on it for a week now without any issues. Has booted up from the card every time so far.
I've got that card in my Nook, no problems so far
Thanks everybody. Got one ordered. I know locally they want much more.

Same here, no issues whatsoever with bookbokan's hybrid install.
I just saw this on Amazon and am so happy to find this thread here! Just purchased. I was needing a bigger card for backups and storage, woohoo.
Forgive my noobness
I just ordered one of these as well. Assuming I use this as a CM bootdisk do I still have the rest of the card as available storage?

I am using this same card to run the CM 10.2 SD card version. Works really well I do still get reboots every so often but performance is good.

If you mean you are installing CM on SD, yes it uses all of the card once installed.

Do you all leave it as exFAT, or reformat it as fat32?

Fat32. Although since about 7/8 exfat is supposed to be supported.

I use the 32gb ultra version as well. Excellent card, no problems. I completely set the card up through my Motorola Bionic since i dont have a microsd reader haha.

[Q] 64 GB SD Card on HD+?

The specs on the website say that the HD+ supports cards up to 32 GB, but occasionally I have seen posts that infer people are using 64 GB cards. Can anyone confirm that the HD+ will read a 64 GB micro sdxc?

Thanks guys. Don't wanna drop that kind of money on a sdcard if it wouldn't work.

Class 10 microsd card

For a nook HD, do class 10 cards work? I've read that class 4 is recommended on the HD+, but what about on the HD?

How exactly does a class 10 worse? It is like the freezes the HD+ gets?

No, the difference mainly comes when trying to run a ROM off of the SD. It runs slower. But it also sometimes does not work well for use as a boot CWM card. It may refuse to boot. And lastly, it sometimes will give i/o errors when used as a normal SD and may take more than one attempt to read or write. But that is less troublesome than the first two issues.

Thanks for the info!
It's interesting that a class 4 is faster. How exactly does that work out?
I guess I'll be heading to microcenter for their class 4 cards.

It has to do with small file read/write speed, which class 4 does better than class 10. There is a whole thread devoted to this on the Nook Color forum. It still applies to the HD/HD+ too. See here:

Don't get the micro center brand, though, they're not as good - quite bad actually. Get the SanDisk brand. I I had the micro center brand when I first started, and had to return it for the SanDisk. Not sure what the difference is, but it was significantly faster after I made the switch.
Now I'm running on EMMC so it doesn't matter that much. But if you plan on running the ROM on the card, get the SanDisk.

I've actually sent back my hd for hd+ and now have an option of buying a Samsung class 6 shown here: http://slickdeals.net/permadeal/115836/shnoop---3-pack-of-16gb-samsung-class-6-microsd-memory-cards
Would that particular SD card be suitable? I actually will be using all 3 of them so the price isn't bad at all for my needs, but I'm not sure how well these class 6 do on random write. My new hd+ does have 32 go of storage so I suppose I should just install to internal but I'd like to have both stock and custom rom available

Look at this thread. It has benchmarks for various brands and classes. I don't know if that card is in the thread somewhere, but you can search to see.

Thanks for the help. Decided to just give up on stock nook and just install cm to internal and ditch the microsd rom idea. Android really makes it better as a daily driver tab for the family to use.

[Q] How can I get B&N content to download to SD card

I just got a Nook HD, & I love reading and I love books and like the stock rom as is, except for one thing. I really would like to be able to download my B&N bought content (which is considerable) onto my SD card. I considered verygreen's:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2330083
as a solution but am not sure if this will accomplish what I hoped it would do. I hoped that the Nook HD would boot to the sd card with the stock rom on it and thereby extend my memory for books. Is this what will happen? Or is there perhaps a better way to accomplish this?
It only gives you more space for B&N content if you have a large SD. You don't say which size HD that you have (8GB or 16GB). You probably have an 8GB if you are complaining about content storage space. Then a 16GB or larger SD with stock installed will help. Be sure to get a proper SD (SanDisk class 4). Since it is B&N content you want more room for that is the only way you will get it as other methods don't help with B&N content.

Thank you very much for the response! and the info. Yes I do have an 8GB. I tried to do this yesterday, but ended up with a 32GB card formatted to 4GB. Not sure what I did wrong. I didn't have a Sandisk Class 4 though.
Thank you again!

That is the size you see. The rest is partitioned so only the ROM sees it. Go ahead with the rest of the install and everything should be ok.

[Q] sd help

I have a nook HD+ and finally getting around to doing a cm 10 or great mod to it. I haven't done this type of thing since the old nook color. I know back when I did that one there were specific brand and grade of sd cards needed to do the mods. Is that still true. I can get a samsun class 10 pretty cheap but don't know if they will work to mod the device.. please advice thanks

It should work fine. You only have to worry about brand and class if you plan to run the ROM from SD.

SanDisk Class 4 is still the best, although some say the class 10 works passably.
