After installing CM 10.2. Milestone1 I lost my IMEI on my Sony Xperia Z.
I backed up my user data, but not the system itself...
I read in another thread you have to restore the TA partition to restore the IMEI.
Now, without having a backup, is it possible to restore the TA partition?
And where in the file system is this partition located?
Thanks in advance
I'll keep it simple:
No back up = No restore (NO WAY AROUND IT!)

This is really bad sh*t. If I only knew I would run into such trouble I would have made a thourough backup of the whole system. Now my phone is bricked...

Your TA is gone for good, matey! I'm truly sorry for you, but there's nothing anyone can do about it.
A word of caution: if you tamper with your TA, you *will* irreversible transform your XZ into a (very stylish) paperwieght.
PS: TA has nothing to do with your IMEI
thats why forums like this exist so you can read everything you need to know before u start playing around.
before i rooted my 1st android i spent more than a week just reading and browsing bout it. now i know what i can do without makin paperweights
cheers
ps if u somehow manage to fry ur phone you might get new one (if unrepairable) but i wouldnt try it

You know, long time ago I used CM on a different phone and all went fine and smooth. Thus I did not expect any problems. Maybe using a CM nightly or Milestone may cause some higher risk... But, I was able to install CM from scratch and get my IMEI back. Sometimes I learn by the hard way, no pain, no gain Oh, I purchased Titanium backup yesterday, lots of people talk about this tool, they say it´s useful

Incorrect. IMEI is stored inside TA partition. Flashing some ROM's may make it seem that it has disappeared, but it is still there. Just flash a stock FTF with Flashtool and it should come back. If not, TA partition may be corrupted, and unless a restore of an unccorrupted one can be achieved, then there is no hope

Dear all,
I really should not post this, but i will do so.
I have unlocked bootloader to install CM 10.2 NIGHTlY. Despite of the so much warnings to backup your TA partition i did NOT backup it, because i thought "I never bought music so i have no DRM keys". Oh boy, was i so wrong to think that DRM keys are not only music related.
However: i was not happy with CM 10.2 and relocked bootloader with flashtool and reverted back to stock wit a FTF file.
For now: everything works fine.
Now my question, i see that my trackid is working fine, it recognizes music, so it works, also i still have the bravia engine option in the menu. So i am missing something here? I'm a lucky bastard who did not lose the DRM keys with unlocking the bootloader? How can i check if my TA partition is intact with all DRM keys?? Also OTA updates are working fine (yeah, of course its saying no update available, only there was 1 walkan app update available and i installed it success)

Drm keys have gone for good then, BE2 won't work on pictures. Track ID works on unlocked bootloader anyway
Edit: of you go into service menu and click on service tests then security down at the bottom you will see the top two are unknown error that is your missing Drm keys

You are correct, i see unknown error 2 times. So that means i will never get the functionality back then?

Nope, it's gone.
Skickat från min C6603 via Tapatalk 2
Nope they are gone your Drm keys are generated via your imei number at the time your phone is made, the only way is if you work on the production line of the Xperia Z and specialise in that with the software which is very slim and the imei number would most probably change which is illegal

I just want to ask that if I create a backup using TWRP or CWM before unlocking my bootloader. And after that if I want to relock it, will I get my DRM keys back if restore the backup which I created using TWRP or CWM?

Backup your TA partition with this tool - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598
You can backup everything else with your custom recovery.

i am a newbie dealing with Android as I have been BB user for a long time, although I can get around with rooting devices but the problem is that while rooting my Xperia SP while bootloader unlock was allowed but I didn't fully read following thread from beginning (stupid I know although I am an engineer )
now while reading your post someone said something about losing DRM keys and Bravia engine which is now seems very worrying to me and I can see in Settings>Display that Bravia engine is selected but I am not sure now if it really works
maybe it is not working as while receiving calls contact pictures imported from Facebook are blurry all the time, whatever i do to enhance them but they are still blurry
any help to restore Bravia engine and why i should lose it as I am following sony official method of unlocking bootloader

Official or Unofficial, you lose the DRM keys + BE2 on unlocking BL.
Only method is backing up a TA partition BEFORE unlocking... then when you have unlocked and restore the TA partition, the BL gets LOCKED and all DRM+BE2 are back working.
OK I understand but I didn't take backup before unlocking bootloader so I have even lost drm keys forever
but what if I installed custom rom will I get back BE2?
Sent from my C5303 using Tapatalk
Nope. It will just be a placeholder. You need those drm keys for BE2

Frankly, you dont need to backup your stock rom... just use the backup n restore app to make backup of all important stuff. it will be stored on SD card...
Then do whatever you want... when you want to return, just lock the bootloader, run sony update service and you will be back to stock...
Someone confirm what i wrote above...

ur choice,,, titanium is an advanced tool with more options. sony backup is user friendly n easy to use with no options,

How to be sure that it is not there?

full backup of the phone require an app like titanium backup. Unfortunately those app generally require root privileges. Btw contacts are normally saved to your google account. You can backup your user preferences and app settings with htc backup. You can also restore app from google play store. You can backup all your media directly on your pc.

after you unlocked bootloader and flashed a custom recovery, make sure to make a nandroid backup of your phone before starting to flash stuff. So if something goes wrong you can restore from that backup. Make sure also to make a copy of that backup to your computer.
beware that when you will unlock your bootloader.......it will wipe your apps......just do some more reading before starting......cheers!

this is an app to backup ur apps. Install the program on ur pc nd back up. the backup will be created in a folder called Carbon in the root of the phone internal storage. MAKE SURE THAT YOU COPY THIS FOLDER TO UR PC COZ THE INTERNAL STORAGE WILL GET WIPED AFTER A BOOTLOADER UNLOCK
To backup call logs,
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.CallLogBackupRestore
Just drag nd drop the media to ur PC(music, pics, movies, etc.)
If anyone like me, reading this way later...
There seams to be some apps that doesn't allow Helium to backup it's data. App tells you to ask the individual developer to allow backups for the app in question. I did it anyway, because none of the apps that was disallowed had data you'd want or shouldn't backup. Mostly banking stuff and some secure conversation apps. There are also a bunch of apps just failing to backup...might be something I did wrong...
Hi guys
I have backed up my TA Partition using TA-Backup Tool and have rooted my device XZ1.
I am about to restore my TA Partition for the same device to XZ1.
When I want to restore my TA Partition its shows me in the final Restore unsuccessful.
Anyone can help me??
Thanks
Why would you restore your TA if you only rooted your phone? Your TA is intact, if you didn't do anything else.

Whatever you do DONT REBOOT!
If something really went wrong a reboot will probably hard brick your phone.
For some reason I had the same issue yesterday evening.
In my case it was an not properly working su binary.
But who knows, maybe something more serious failed on your phone.
Try installing SuperSU application from Play Store and update the SU Binary.
After that try again.

Maybe TA was restored already.
And the script just fails to compare the written TA Partition and your Backup.
Try entering Service Menu and check for bootloader unlock status.

I'm in the same mess, I remember back when I followed the guide that it basically said "If you're at latest update, you can unlock the bootloader but there's no way to make a backup of your TA." No biggie I thought, I'm not gonna miss the bravia much and I really really wanted to get rid of the bloatware...
Now the newest PS App is also DRM-Locked, and there's no way to make Remote Play work either. Guess i'm gonna buy a Z3 tablet and keep it stock as a reminder of my failure
