preparing to root device - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

good day
i have been reading through the forums and various links
i have already tried to root my Sony Xperia Z1 with vroot and 360root, but just before i did that i connected my phone to my pc and it updated to 14.1.G.2.257 so now i have to use flashtool and downgrade to .534
so both vroot and 360root failed so i not sure if they got my IMEI number or not
anyways my current phone is branded with vodacom and along with all the vodacom bloadware, the main reason i want to root my phone is becuse i hateeeee being forced to have apps that i dont use and that i can not uninstall
phone info
device model - C69033
software version - 14.G.2.257
software ID - 1276-1257 R13A
baseband verision - 8974-AAAAANAZQ-10270011-22
i have also read that i may loose the bravia engine
so if i read right the steps that i should follow are;
1. downgrade to 14.1.G.1.534 Commercial/Journalist 1277-1398 with flashtool (as this as per what ive read in the forums already has a OTA update)
2. use this method to root the device Root MANY ANDROID! [Upd: 20.11.2013] - Added Z1 Root
3. Back up TA with [TOOL] Backup TA v9.8 for Windows [20130928]
4. to get rid of the vodacom startup screen i should run bootloader?
5. to get rid of apps that i dont want i use flashtool ?
thanks for the asistance

Not if you just root, only if you unlock the bootloader as well
so if i read right the steps that i should follow are;

No, once you have rooted, install Titanium Backup from the play store (Free version, but I recommend the paid for version) then just uninstall the apps you do not want
5. to get rid of apps that i dont want i use flashtool ?

No, flashtool is for flashing stock FTF's, you uninstall your bloatware using Titanium Backup

You do not have to unlock the bootloader at all if you just want to root and uninstall bloatware.

oki downgrade to 14.1.G.1.534 Commercial/Journalist 1277-1398 with flashtool then i rooted with Root MANY ANDROID! [Upd: 20.11.2013] - Added Z1 Root then i updated through pc to 14.1.g.2.257
how can i confirm that iam rooted now ?

Look for supper user app in app drawer, or do something that requires root.

Not sure what you are saying exactly, your phone didn't root that you are doing it again? make sure you have the phone in developer mode, if not under settings keep clicking about phone until it comes up and says you are now a developer or similar. Make sure you have USB debugging ticked, and then try vroot, worked well for me.
First launch of Titanium backup should ask for root permissions.

ok i got 14.1.G.1.534 Commercial/Journalist 1277-1398 rooted on my phone now
but now i cant update ota to the next version and if i do it via pc i loose the root
but my biggest problem is that now i can not restore my contacts back onto my phone :crying:

got good news i flashed my phone again this time with the C6903 14.1.G.1.534 Central Europe1276-4314_R2A ftf and then rooted with "Root MANY ANDROID!" and then confirmed root and also then was able to OTA to 14.G.2.257 yayyyyy and kept root awsome stuff
also i got my contacts back as i had a .257 backup that i could use to restore them yayyyyyyy

[Q] Can't update via OTA Xperia T

Hello guys,
Since days I'm trying to update my Xperia T to the Firmware 9.1.A.1.141 after I've got a notification to update it, but whenever I do this during installion the bluebar (the one which shows up after the device turns off for updating) just loads till the half and then the phone restart itself. The only think it shows is: the update didn't work, please try again...
I'm currently just rooted with SuperSU, without CWM, stock ROM.
I also tried OTA Rootkeeper but this didn't work. Any ideas?

i had the same problem here, but the main point with me was that i unlocked the bootloader, and didn't create a backup of TA files, and relocked the bootloader by a FTF from development section, so i thought that relocking the bootloader may cause the problem....
now, are you RElocked or LOCKED?

Have you deleted any of the system apks or moved any non factory installed apps into the system? I find when I do that I cant OTA I guess it is some check or verification the update does on the system. Now is just disable apps via the settings page and keep user apps off the system as we have plenty of storage anyway.

Yes that did it for me. I have moved a system app away. Thank you +1
Just download correct ftf file from general pages. There is plenty of costumization over here.
Flash ftf without wipe data. Root with doomlord script again.

only the download link is banned, you can get the file somewhere else, and the guide tells you how to use it, and this one is actually an easier option:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2130276
it roots the nexus 4, which is the same hardware as our zxr, it should work.

Thanks, I gave this a try.
The two exploits, Aragorn and Gandalf, both fail. "Try another exploit if available. Error 5" Well I gave it a shot. Any advice is welcome
I also want to root my c5503, with a locked bootloader.
I found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2386405 and according to it i just need a older kernel.
So here are my questions: is the 10.1.1.A.1.310 old enough and does it work with this root method?
How do i get just the kernel out of an existing ftf file?
Thanks for help guys!
Download vroot to your pc and intall, plug your phone run vroot and press green button that says root, that's it, now you can change the superuser app of your choice.
Hope I helped

Not really. Vroot is no longer available anywhere.
Thanks for the hint, but i don't trust in vroot...
try kingo root
Made in ZR
I finally managed to root with the following steps:
1) flashed the .310 Nordic ftf
2) used doomlords exploid v18
3) ota updates to vers .67 --> root still persists
I also tried to flash only the 310 kernel (like rooting the description from the z says), but that ended up in a bootloop with the Sony logo. -no idea why!

how did you enable the ota update on rooted .310? I temporarily disabled it with ota preserver but nothing happens.
I didn't had to enable it, it was enabled by default!
I just gave the ota update after the root a try and it just worked...

It thinks it's already updated for me. so is there no way to enable it?
EDIT: Never mind, managed to fix it: It turns out I was trying to upgrade from the global version of .310; reflashing to the Hong-Kong version allowed me to update.

Rooting xperia zr without Loosing drm data & having locked bootloader

As you know there are not many kernel options for ZR as in Z you have to unlock bootloader to root the phone to flash it with CWM or any other recovery.
So this is detailed Guide to root Xperia ZR & having Locked Bootloader
1) Don't upgrade your phone to 4.2.2_10.3.1.A.2.67 Firmware & If you already updated it to Downgrade it to 4.1.2_10.1.1.a.1.310 Firmware In Flash mode Using Flashtool 9.13 (Download Flashtool 9.11 install it After upgrade it with 9.12 & 9.13) don't unlock bootloader.
2)Now Root it Using DooMLoRD_Easy-Rooting-Toolkit_v18_perf-event-exploit. to root just click runme.bat. Your phone will get root access & you will get Superuser app
3)Then use Backup-TA-9.8 to backup your TA.img & save it at any Safe location for further Use ( It Content DRM Data & must be saved throughout lifespan of your phone).
4)Now upgrade your phone to 10.3.1.A.2.67 either by OTA or Using Sony PC companion & if you are unable to get upgrade don't panic just use flashtool & flash the 4.1.2_10.1.1.a.1.310 again & try the OTA upgrade. (As i do have both for Indian region but attachments will be too big to Attach here).
5)Now install Vroot on your PC & root your phone with it. Now you can see that your bootloader got unlocked but don't panic install SuperSu from Playstore update binary for it reboot your phone. now freeze Superuser from Vroot using titanium backup then update binary for SuperSu. Now convert Superuser from Vroot into user app using Titanium Backup. Reboot Your phone update binary for SuperSu & uninstall superuser from Vroot.
6)Now Use BLU button From Flashtool. on pressing BLU button Flashtool it will prompt to start phone in flash mode to unlock bootloader just do as prompted but dont disconnect the phone after boot loader just hit the BLU button to re-lock bootloader. Reboot your phone.
7)Now just flash Back-up your TA Using Backup-TA-9.8.
8)Congratulation now you have rooted phone with locked bootloader with full functionality.
I wrote this because i just lost DRM data things cant be undone.
SO for all Niewbies this is guide to ROOT ZR with Locked BootLoader.

OK i agree there are there are many guide for rooting but all are applicable to Z or Zl having many kernel options. not as Zr which has very few kernel option.
Try any Method except vroot on Zr & tell me which are more useful.
Even vroot unlocks bootloader so to get root with 4.1 without unlocking bootloader is precautionary because accidental wipe of Ta partition may void Warranty.
This is not for pro who can build kernel for those who knew very less about android, to avoid them all pain i suffered.
& again i joined this forum 4 days ago as you think but i used this subscribed it 4 years ago with my first X10 & used it Since then anonymously as i lost my password for cant retrieve it.
& Tell me What is inaccurate i will try it Myself.
If you think its ridiculous why you haven't posted how to Root Zr it would have saved me a lot of pain.
So as you done nothing before stay as you are at least i m trying to save pain of others.

DRM data is Digital Rigths Management Data which links purchased data to your phone without which you cant use data u purchased. More Important without which warranty voids, Bravia Engine seizes to work properly as it works with DRM Data. & Track Id downloaded from Market will not integrate with walkman which are Sony proprietary software's.

hmm... i don't get any sort of crap from that software on my PC... maybe cos i was smart enough not to just blindly click Next all the way. IE/reg/security settings are all fine (part of my job is IT security so i know when weird things come into my PC)
as for the screenshot of the superuser app "dialing home", well one of the first few things i did was to replace it with SuperSU...
what..?? I've never seen a rooting procedure which unlocks the BL... and that last one absolutely doesn't need to be unlocked for rooting ! Honestly, I've serious doubts about your intentions. Why the hell do you tell upgrading, flashing, flashing back and blabla... this is too complicated.
Get vroot or kingo root, that's all you need
> chewdaniel personally, I use Superuser by clockwormod, it's open source and a safe alternative as well.

I'd like to know this myself.
I have a feeling a flash to an earlier version is needed. I've tried several outdated roots with no joy.
OP you will probably get ignored or told to read a 100 page thread.
Use Easy root for xperia
google it
I know, right! Well, don't download the EasyRoot because afterwards it asks for a key and the website to get it from doesn't even function (unstableapps.com).
i think we may just have to go back to iPhone, or wait for a truly customizable new platform, where you can change battery icons and fully control your device. there doesn't seem a way to utilize our phones any longer.

New Root. I didn't have any issues. Installed a recovery too
Newroot newroot newroot!
Guys just go to this thread and download this tool by munjeni. Easiest root unroot you can find. No need to go back to an older firmware n all. Just hit root/unroot and you are all set. Make sure you install proper phone drivers though. PC companion should show that c6902 connected. I had a slight issue while rooting since the phone was not getting detected. Simply reinstall PC companion and you are good to go.

You need to read bilboa1's guide completely, before you start and make backups of your TA partition for good measure.
Unfortunately, you will need to downgrade your firmware to an older version, then root it, add recovery. Then you will be able to flash a pre-rooted MM build.
Don't use kingroot.

Kingroot sends all your phones details and account information, including your IMEI number to an unknown server in China, leaving you open to the possibility of a clone of your phone. It uses several legacy apk's that behave like malware and are hard to remove, it's also difficult to move onto normal root (SuperSU) and you will always have problems .
