[Q] Question about flashing Radio/Modem - Moto X Q&A

Hi there...
I am experimenting with different radio/modem files for my ATT and my Vivo MotoX, and I'd like to understand exactly what the following commands do.
$fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
$fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
$fastboot erase modemst1
$fastboot erase modemst2
I imagine that NON-HLOS is the modem files...
but what is fsg.mbn?
And why do I have to erase those modemst's?
Is this the right order?
Some topics people put the fsg.mbn after the "erase modemst1 & 2"
Please, could someone share some info?
Thks!

i don't have all the answers you are looking for but Ill tell you what i do know. I would assume the order with which you do it doesn't matter. But when i have done it i did it with the fsg flashing after the modem erasing. I would assume that the modemst erasing probably has to do with stuff being written at boot. Meaning that flashing different HLOS and fsg will cause those things to write new code/info the modemst1&2, if they weren't erased then they might not write whatever they do and then they would just be incompatible (but this is purely speculation/deductive login, i actually have no idea)
that's about all i got, but if you can't find the answer im sure google searching those specific file names will return something on what is actually being flashed (if you google them individually so you don't get a bunch of results on "how to flash the modem" threads or whatever).

Thank you for tour answer...
I've really tried googling around... But I got nothing.
I also assume the same as you. But for me is very important to understand these files, because in My experiments, I'm gettIng some issues...

Fastboot files for the Razr I

This is not my work, all work done by kent.
Thanks kent.
Currently we have the Retail.eu fastboot files, more coming soon, till then happy unbricking
Download Ics fastboot files:

Edit: Visit here to see all the available fastboot files
Warning: If your phone is not a Retail.EU model and has NOT been bootloader unlocked please do not try these.
I am unlocked and started with Retail.GB. I can flash system, boot, recovery fine. I would not suggest flashing the other parts or the whole file in RSD if you are not a Retail.EU in any case.
Yeah it's leaktime, gonna also back up those in Brazil

Hey Guys, i got a lil Question. I have to manage the RazR i Forum here in Germany. Problem is, i own just the regular RazR.
Is there any big difference by flashing the RazR i Fastboot Files, compared with the OG RazR?
BTW: Nice How to's for unlocking the Bootloader & Root. I've used them to write an German one (of course with Links to Mattlgroffs Threads )

The filesystem is different, but the basic understanding is the same. bos is the bootloader, boot is kernel, cdrom is the mounted ISO, gpt is the partition table, logo is the boot logo, ulogo is the unlocked version of bootlogo, radio, recovery, system. A few others like ifwi, dnx, and sp.img I am not too familiar with. I am posting my firmware charger (includes German O2), on here and DroidRzr.com (got a post here now).
If you want to stay safe only flash system and boot. I haven't done anything else and been find. Been on German, Brasil, EU, GB firmwares all on my GB device with GB radio fine. If you want add me on gtalk and I can help with what I can ([email protected])
Thanks for Reply, i'll add the warning in to the Fastboot Thread, after open it tomorrow. I guess i will have some Questions, so i will send you an Message via GTalk.
Meanwhile i'm lurking on Amazon and the i will be realesed in Germany tomorrow.
We'll see, maybe something new to play with this year...

Anyone with an locked BootLoader tried to flash the Retail EU by using RSD 6.1.4?
It would be great, if someone can confirm that they're flashable like regular Fastboots on an XT910 with the newer Version of RSD.

Maybe, it's not a big secret...it's common android debugging commands. I've already posted the system backup command, and pulling the boot.img is just a dd command to copy it to the SD card.
Code:
adb shell
su
make_ext4fs -s -l 885768704 -a system /sdcard/system.img.ext4 /system
dd if-/dev/block/mmcblk0p5 of=/sdcard/boot.img
Yeah I saw it before, but where ever the questions is, we should be able to find the answer

If you click yourself on over to the Moto X General forum, you'll see this thread titled "[FXZ] Moto X 4.4.4 212.55.26 (XT1060)" which has 10k+ views,163 posts, and is at the very top of the first page right below the stickies. The last reply in that thread was posted tonight at 9:29pm. Between 9pm and the time you posted this thread, there were 8 replies posted so the thread has been at the very top of the General forum.
You've been a member here for nearly 4 years and have made nearly 1k posts in that time, there are no excuses. Could I have been more helpful by answering your question? Of course. However, when the answer to your question can be found that easily, why should I bother? It's obvious you didn't bother to look, because there's no way you could've seen "[FXZ] Moto X 4.4.4 212.55.26 (XT1060)" and not click on it.
Asks about updating a Verizon Moto X to 4.4.4, skips the thread which has all of the key words in the title.

You are correct. With this FXZ, one can flash from *any* version straight to 4.4.4, unlike OTA's which are "incremental" in nature.
No need to flash stock recovery, either. :good:
Thanks for the actual response! I did see that thread, but I'm not familiar with fxz, I looked it up and it appeared to be for a Windows only toolkit. Am I mistaken? Can this be flashed in twrp?
I have been on xda quite a while and it's quite common for real information to be lost in posts because people jam them up with useless bickering and shaming instead of real information. The moto x posts seem to be lost in the thousands of Combinations of downgrades upgrades and write protection combos that people have. I'm used to phones with unlocked bootloaders, where someone usually posts a stock rom that you can flash. I haven't found that here.

RSD Flasher is a java program, should run anywhere, but I don't know about RSD Lite.
I extracted the FXZ file, and then flashed it manually because RSD Lite won't run on USB 3.0, but fastboot will. I don't know if it is supposed to work that way, but seems to be working for me. I'm in the process of rooting right now.

I can help you with this....
First, @T-Keith , I came across your post after @dhoppy had just answered your question, pointing you to the fxz thread.
Second, T-Keith, you can absolutely flash this in Linux OR Mac (let me know which you are running, and I'll help with both the tools and commands necessary).
It will take only a couple minutes to complete and your data will be left intact.

I'm sorry, I'm jumping in late but...
IF you are on 4.4.2, and pretty close to stock (i.e. Xposed disabled, system files not modified, etc. so that the manifest checks inside the OTA will not fail) then you can just use mfastboot to flash stock recovery and take the OTA.
If the OTA hasn't been pushed to your device yet, but it has leaked (like the 4.4.4. OTA for Verizon) and you want install it, see -> http://mark.cdmaforums.com/MotoX-SideloadOTA.htm
This process will NOT impact your data or apps.
If you are TOO far from stock... then just return to stock by flashing the full SBF/FXZ for your phone. If the 4.4.4 FXZ/SBF has leaked for your phone, then just flash it using RSDLite, mFastboot(manual steps), or other tool. This will likely wipe your data, apps and settings and put you back to stock.

The new Leaked FXZ is a "KEEP DATA" FXZ - Moto Made it this way (thanks Moto!!). Unless someone explicitly runs "fastboot erase userdata" or uses a different tool to erase userdata, it's just as good (BETTER) than taking the OTA. :good:

OK, have you managed to do it already? My response was from last night, so if you have already managed to flash it, I don't want to go finding the tools and spend a few minutes writing up a guide for you. Confirm (quickly) if you still need it, and I'll write it right up for you, if so.

EDIT: @T-Keith : Well....here's the info anyways. Use it if you want..
1. Download the FULL FXZ from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/fxz-moto-x-4-4-4-212-55-26-t2827307
2. Extract it
3. Download the attachment that I was so kind as to attach here for you (you MUST use this variant of fastboot - for Linux) Extract THIS fastboot to same folder as the FXZ files (possibly need to change permissions +x)
4. Boot phone into bootloader mode (AP Fastboot Mode): Unplug phone, power off. Hold Down VOL DOWN + POWER
5. Execute the following commands IN ORDER:
fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
fastboot flash motoboot motoboot.img
fastboot flash logo logo.bin
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase customize
fastboot erase clogo
fastboot reboot
DONE! And your data should still be intact....if you would PREFER to wipe your data, add the following command BEFORE "fastboot reboot"
fastboot erase userdata
Thanks. Does this method work with twrp then?

Definitely! (so long as you are UNLOCKED)
AFTER you complete EVERTHING in my instructions...and you boot into android successfully...and confirm everything works:
Just reboot BACK into the BL, and
fastboot flash recovery twrpfilename.img
(get the latest version here: http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/ghost )
then immediately afterwards, type:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
then VOL DOWN to RECOVERY, and VOL UP to select it. (you HAVE do this immediately after flashing TWRP or it won't stick and will revert back to stock recovery...for unknown reasons. As long as you boot into TWRP IMMEDIATELY after flashing it, it sticks forever...)
When you go to exit TWRP, it will ask you if you would like to install SuperSU installer. Tell it YES! Then once rebooted, you will have an icon for SuperSU Installer. Click it, and select "PLAY STORE" method. Done. Rooted. 4.4.4
Any idea if this will work with an encrypted phone? I believe the data partition is the only one encrypted. Mine is throwing an error trying to install the OTA. This looks like a promising second option.

When installing the OTA via stock recovery (i.e. have OTA.zip on the /SDCard, boot to stock recovery, select install update and pick the OTA.zip) it will tell you exactly why the install is failing.
With the phone being encrypted, I would only consider doing the OTA. Doing an FXZ will over write the system and other partitions, any phone encryption settings will likely be lost.
If you do try FXZ, please copy your data to your PC FIRST!!!! just in case!!

TO ANYONE ELSE WHO COMES ACROSS THIS THREAD:
The VZW 4.4.4 FXZ is ****NO LONGER**** A "keep data" FXZ. If you download the FXZ now, you will need to modify the XML file and remove the line containing "erase userdata" if you want to prevent all of your data from being erased.
Just to clear it up: The original leaked FXZ was indeed a keep-data FXZ and did not have the lines for erasing userdata.
NOW that the new official FXZ has leaked, it DOES contain the erase userdata command.
Other than the slightly modified XML (used for flashing), ***ALL OF THE PARTITIONS ARE EXACTLY THE SAME***
So anyone who used the "old" FXZ - Don't worry! You are NOT using a outdated version, and you don't need to flash the new one. They are 100% identical aside from the additional command to erase userdata.

PROTOTYPE, BOOTLOADER UNLOCKED,Kitkat 4.4.3! RARE MOTO X 2ND GEN (AT&T)

So , i've bought moto x2 from ebay. as a title says it's prototype version. with unlocked bootloader, At&T(but sim unlocked), With adroid 4.4.3 . phone has different construction, as frame from ordinary moto x2 doesnt fit and i have to cut some plastic to fit that frame. prototype come without power button, i think it was inside of motorola logo (as it was seen on prototype version of Droid turbo), that's whay i did all that stuff.
BTW pc see's it as XT912A ( no it's not razr )
now about these thread. i want to ask devs if they want any kind of information from this . i've done nothing yet (rooting, changing rom ,ect)
i'll post some pics later if anyone wants to see it
yeah, pics would be great!
here is some pics
2nd screenshot shows camrera app additional settings, 3rd shows some motorola test apps.
btw forgot to mention this one have bigger camera, it's also 10mp but slightly bigger . pictures taken by it have "cross processing" effect (check it in photoshop tutorial). can't take "normal" , only with that effect
Here is more pics and more info.
prototype phone have toshiba eMMC instead of sandisk (as it's on pure edition xt1095) also, Ram is different it's from hynix instead of Elpida.
Last pic is from pure edition (1095) you can see difference

software isn't as stable as it should be, sometimes it crashes , lags ,ect .. so i can't see difference.
i've tested it with antutu and got 38,6K . i think it's same as other variants , but not quite sure.. also it's on 4.4.3 non stable soft and some motorola "crap" , like bug reporting app ...
as i know Elpida chips is more hotter than hynix ( at least on amd video cards) , but i'm not using phone for "heavy tasks" to see how hot it will get. it gets warm/hot while charging with turbo charger, thats all i can say about temperature's

it's motorola test device, prototype or whatever you want to call it.
Very interesting. I'd be curious to see an Antutu test side by side on clean flash on the prototype and clean flash on the production product. Probably slight differences from read/write speeds between disk manufacturers. Have any specific plans with this device?

Yes you have to keep that fsg.mbn which i gave you with every rom you use, this fsg.mbn is from 912A made for that prototype.. You need it every time you flash any rom. Okie next step is 10gb stuff.. Flash any latest rom you need and then flash twrp recovery and do a backup of system, and boot. Pull the backup and save it somewhere in your hard drive. And then find xt1085 stock rom, google it you will find one. When download is complete flash xt1085 full rom.. Next steps after you will done with this

Yes, i've flashed it again and it worked again . I haven't done backup when it was on stok , that was my mistake
I'll do that stuff , after i get in home .
Any way it says that 7,XX GB has system and other 8.33 is usable . So it still have 16GB... However almost 8gb is too much for system, right?

Moto g6 call issues

Hello everyone I recently unlocked my Moto g6 xt1925-13 had some issues had to revert to a stock rom after having no carrier signal period. Well I have the signal now, I can even connect a call, however there is no ringback, person who received the call can't hear me and I can't hear them... So... Any ideas? I tried to look for a cache in persist to see if that would maybe help as I saw a post on that before but the file is non existent. Any ideas help thanks.
Update - I re flashed my stock rom and changed a line in the command.
fastboot flash dsp dspso.bin
to
fastboot flash dsp adspso.bin
For me that fixed it. Hope this helps others in the future.

You can't take someone else's files to get your IMEI back.
If you could explain more detailed what you've done, then it might be helpful for others to find a solution.

Although this example is for Moto G5 it's nearly the same for G6.

My problem is that I have IMEI 0, what happens is that I flash the android rom 8 to 9, then I wanted to try the pixel experience rom but when I return to android 9 because I don't like its excessive battery usage I realize that I don't count With a signal to what I look at and I do not have my IMEI number, it is at 0, it looked for things to solve but it did not find anything, I cannot find my EFS folder or where the IMEI is, I wanted someone else's file to be able to put my imei again modifying the file and thus return but I don't know, I can't find anything

Your IMEI files are in /persist/rfs/msm/mpss/dhob.bin + shob.bin
EFS1=modemst1
EFS2=modemst2
That's a usual problem when downgrading your ROM and the reason why it is not recommended!!
Make sure you are running Android 9 and the mentioned files are available. You need also the NON-HLOS.bin from your stock firmware. Boot into fastboot mode and type
Code:
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot reboot

I have got two devices: Moto G6 and Moto G6+
Due to a very dump mistake I killed my dhob.bin and shob.bin files on my G6+ and lost my IMEI forever. That's the reason why I bought the G6.
I know there are a few people here in this forum offering a persist.img for those who ruined their own. As I can see on your screenshot the hob+dhob_report.txt files are a clean sign for flashing someone else's persist.img on your device.
To make matters worse, your shob.bin file was created at May 2016!! The release date was March 2018! I don't think that Motorola developed that device two years before the official release date...
Option 1: You flashed another persist.img to get your IMEI back
Option 2: Your device is a used one and you bought it with a already messed up persist partition.
At the end it doesn't matter, because your IMEI will remain 0.

Your persist should be this way

Where can I get persist.img? To test, I'll make a copy of the ones I already have in case of doubt. Another thing is that my problem was that I used the rom pixel experience and when I saw that I did not like it, I returned to android 9 stock and there my problem

The files shown on your screenshot do not belong to your phone. They belong to another Motorola device. But to get your IMEI back you need your own files. They are unique. These files were created and encrypted by Motorola and there is no chance to recreate them!! In case you haven't got a backup of your own your IMEI is dead, zero, 0, gone. bye bye!

The second sentence:
This method will not work if you have restored other device's persist from some Youtube video or some Internet guide.
Here, you can flash my persist.img from my G6 (XT1925-5, ALI_RETEU_PPSS29.55-37-7-2)
https://mega.nz/file/hzYUDa4T#hAxvNSk4X5orTkUapJ35v3BY09QqIkH_Mq5-hM1IDGM
Have fun! It won't work!
I had this very same problem today after trying out Android 10. How I fixed it was to download the LineageOS 16 and install that over the top of whatever firmware/rom you have on your phone. Then once you've booted properly (Don't do root or anything, just boot the rom) check your IMEI has gone back to normal and if it has then you can flash a stock rom over the top (wipe all partitions as normal).
