I've searched and searched and can't find a fix for this, I can not send or receive MMS picture or video messages while running CM7, i'm running MIUI right now (1.9.9) and i can send and receive fine, as well as on stock 2.1 and 2.2, but not on CM7. I've tried fixing my APN settings (I'm on Rogers by the way) but it never works. Any help?
You need to make sure the apn is CORRECT, which provider are you with?

Thanks for the reply! I tried his settings and I don't get 3G or MMS now.. when I leave them at default I get 3G but no MMS I've tried lots of different apn's, I don't get why this isn't working!

This is what my apn settings are by default and it still doesn't work. I have apn's listed by default, Rogers, Rogers #1, Rogers #2, Rogers Tethering, and Rogers MMS. The apn named Rogers is selected and it has the same settings as you've listed. Is this how it should be?
Do you have Auto switch enabled?

I don't see any option to turn that on or off, I am back on CM7 as Miui runs to slow for me, I thought there was an option for that on Miui, but I don't see one on CM7
There is one in Miui, not sure about CM7 though as it is currently just a .zip on my SD card.

Oh ok, MMS works when I'm running MIUI, but I like CM7. I don't get why it works on MIUI but CM7.

EDIT : have you tried any of the ICS ports? Amazingly polished!
Well I've since upgraded three phones but I can now comfortably explain why, it either may still just be the APN settings OR it could be the kernel that is flashed with your version of CM7, are you sure its the official for your captivate? Or is it a custom ROM listed on XDA ported by another dev? Feel free to PM me as I'm not really monitoring these old posts I just happened to stumble with tapatalk (sorry!) but always willing to help!

I know this thread is old as hell, but to new users who are considering going with Straight Talk (ST), I suggest you do it. Its way cheaper than AT&T and you still get their coverage and not to mention unlimited data**. You can get the Straight Talk SIM card via their Bring Your Own Phone (BYOP) program. You can get it at their website.
**You get unlimited data as long as you don't abuse your data connection.
Oh and if you are having trouble trying to get data/mms working on your cappy with ST, here are the APN settings.
1. Download APN Back up/ restore from the Play Store

Why no slashes? That's what ST recommended and I haven't had problems yet with my captivate. Thanks for the thread.
I use Straight Talk myself. Anyone find a way to down load APN backup and restore without using wifi? I would like to change ROM away from home, but don't know how to get data working without that app.

Thank you for the info. I did want to ask though if you can direct me to the forum post that explains whats needed to be done to flash my pantech burst P9070 at&t phone to Straight Talk?? I moved to Greensburg Kentucky and trying to find a service that will work on my phone in this area.
There is no need to flash your phone, as long as it runs android, you just follow the instructions above. Also straight talk has realized that people will do this anyways so now you can just buy a straight talk SIM card from their website and I'm sure they have instructions too.
HTC HD2 converted to Straight Talk
I followed the thread best I can for this, but my HD2 has diferrent sequence for input fields / cell blocks and I was unable to get it completed. The phone works well and the text works well, but no emails. I am a rookie at this technology, so be gentle on me. I purchased this outright at Walmart in 5/10 and the phone is unlocked.
I used this sequence: START > SEETINGS > MENU > ALL SETTINGS > CONNECTIONS > CONNECTIONS >
ADD NEW MODEM CONNECTION > ENTER NAME FOR CONNECTION (STRAIGHT TALK) > SELECT MODEM (GPRS). I completed this part.
ST provides the following instructions:
FIELD = SETTINGS
Name = straight Talk (completed)
APN = att.mvno (can not located this input field)
Proxy = proxy . mvno . tracfone . com (can not locate this input field)
Port = 80 (completed)
MMSC = http: // mmsc . cingular . com (can not locate this input field)
MMS Proxy = 66.209.11.33 (can not locate this input field)
MMS Port = 80 (can not locate this input field)
I really need to get this corrected. Then I would love to upgrade to newer Windows version.
Thanks A Ton - Scott

Did you ever figure out how to recieve mms? I think it has something to do with cm roms, ive had this problem with cm7 and now cm9 on my gs3. THanks
All of a sudden lately my MMS have not been coming through. I just get a message that says I have a "download". When I click on it then it changes to "downloading" but after a few seconds goes back to either "download" or I get a message that I cannot retrieve the message.
I have gotten this a few times when I send myself an MMS just to test it. Im on AOKP milestone 6 and I think this started happening right after I upgraded to that. Last night I flashed back to JB 4.1 and it was still happening, so now I dont know what to do.

Ok, so its not just me. Yes, it only just started happening within the last several days. I just spent an hour on the phone with google support trying to figure it out. Ended up doing a full reset and putting the phone back the way I want it right now but I still get the same MMS issue. At this point it has to be on ST's end of things.

Everything worked just fine until the weekend here in Indianapolis. I dug up a forum from 2011 on Howard Forum with similar issues but didn't want to respond to an old post.
And lately while browsing the web on data, I get an unable to connect to network error. If I refresh the page, it eventually goes.
Everything fine up here in Minneapolis St. Paul on Straight Talk. Streaming Pandora 20 minues here, browse the web, check Facebook all without any hault.
I'm using a separate APN setting specifically just for MMS and works great. I then have a 2nd setting to get data connection.

I have no problems with calls or data or streaming or anything other than not getting MMS at all. Would you kindly share your APN settings?
Here are the APN settings I used specifically to get just MMS: http://wirevalley.com/straight-talk-day-1/
When you enter in these APN MMS settings, you won't be able to physically "select" this APN setting. However, it still tells the phone how to route MMS properly.
Post your results! Let me know what you find out.
P.S. - I'm also using Android... hopefully you are too. Otherwise, not sure if the results will be the same.

Ive tried different combinations of APN's. Ill try this one and see how it goes. Thanks for the recommendation. Yes, Im on Android, Galaxy Nexus specifically but found this thread and figured Id post in it.
I know there are plenty of global-network related threads on here, but the majority of them were made back before the OTA update and reference the complicated stuff while leaving out the more basic stuff, like *where* to set your APN.
I've got a standard Telus SIM card (from my old Milestone, which was just barely hanging on in a few vital areas... proximity sensor flakes out, headphone jack has been repaired three times, GPS no longer works...) and just trimmed it with scissors based on this guide: w w w . techradar . com /news/mobile-computing/tablets/how-to-make-your-own-ipad-or-iphone-4-micro-sim-681020 (sorry, can't post links so remove the spaces...) I'll note that I marked which corner of the SIM was "rounded off" before cutting, so I wouldn't lose track. (just make a little mark at the edge of the "chip" contacts in that corner.)
Opening the back of the battery cover without the original opener tool isn't as nice as it could be, but I've successfully used staples and a mechanical pencil tip.
One you put in the SIM and power up the device, you'll get an "unknown SIM" error, but it should still start fine.
After I got through the setup stuff, my phone worked for dialing and receiving calls, but no data. here's what I had to do:
[menu]->[system settings]->[wireless and networks: more...]->[mobile networks]
Make sure [Data Enabled] is checked.
tap [global data roaming access] and set it to [allow access for all trips]
Scroll down to "GSM/UMTS settings" and tap [Access Point Names]
tap the [menu] button and [new APN]
Use these values: (from: androidforums dot com /hero-support-troubleshooting/45005-mobile-network-apn-settings.html#post348959)
Code:
Name: TELUS SP
APN: sp dot telus dot c o m (sorry, can't post links so remove the spaces...)
Proxy: 74.49.0.18
Port: 80
Username: <Not set>
Password: <Not set>
Server: <Not set>
MMSC: h t t p : / / aliasredirect dot net/proxy/mmsc (sorry, can't post links so remove the spaces...)
MMS Proxy: 74.49.0.18
MMS Port: 80
MMS Protocol: WAP 2.0 (not used, don't see it in my menu)
MCC: 302 (this is already filled)
MNC: 220 (this is already filled)
Authentication Type: <Not set>
APN type: default,mms
APN protocol: IPv4
Bearer: unspecified (Haven't tried changing this yet.)
tap [menu] and [save], data should be working!
Take a look at my Rogers thread, it will help you get tethering up and running!

Recently connected an ICS Verizon Droid 4 to Telus but am now getting -100 dBm signal both inside and outside the house. Old Milestone never had any signal issues, whatsoever, inside or outside.
I created the Telus APN using the correct settings, which got me H data. Then, I went through the network settings, manually chose Telus, manual set on GSM/UMTS (not global), and set to UMTS only for network. Still only 1-2 bars max, always.
Any ideas or settings to change?

I very rarely see more than 2 bars. My old Motorola xprt was this way until it received an update than the signal meter was more accurate, I think it something you just live with.
Question have you tried to setup call fowarding? It doesn't allow me say I am roaming.

I plan to purchase this phone and based on the specs I've seen it should have no trouble on the new Telus/SaskTel network here in Saskatchewan (Please correct me if I'm wrong). Just a quick question for those of you who have the phone, can you or do you have to root this phone to delete the unnecessary bloatware that comes on the phone?
Thanks in advance
Hello,
I have a Samsung i896 Captivate, which was originally with Rogers. I purchased it from a cell store second hand and unlocked. I am with Virgin Mobile. I have spoken to them about my issue that the MMS will not download. They say they're down loading but then never finish and eventually expire. Even as I added the APN according to the instructions from VIrgin, nothing has changed. Still not down loading MMS. They say that because the phone was not originally with Virgin they can't do anything about it. Is there anything I can do to get my MMS downloading even with my unlocked phone??? Please help and thank you for reading.

When you entered your APN, did you delete all the others first?
Being unlocked doesn't change much other than you can use it on any carrier. Did you check with them to see if they locked your MMS?
Also, MMS can only be downloaded on data (can't use wifi).

Thank you for your reply BWolf56! So I haven't checked with Rogers to see if they lock their MMS as they are not my carrier. (they were the original phone owners carrier) If I call them do you think they'll assist me even if I am not thier client?
When I entered the APN there were no previous APN entered so none to delete.
I turned off the Wifi and then turned my phone on and off, just to see if that made a difference...I don't even know what to expect will happen if I do find a fix. Will my pending (NOT expired) MMS be able to be down loaded?
Would you have any other suggestions as to how to fix this problem? I really want to receive these messages before they expire and am getting kind of desperate. Thanks again.

Locked MMS would come from your current carrier so you would have to ask them.
Although, if you were on Wifi this entire time, it's normal it didn't work. As I mentioned earlier, you need to be on your data (3G/H) to download MMS. You should be able to redownload the pending ones, just hold over the MMS and hit redownload.

Out of curiosity, did you set two APN's? By the looks of it, there are two for Virgin - one for default and one for mms. I had the worst time doing a Rogers apn setup and eventually had to go to the default one and put default,text,mms,...etc for the type. Virgin might work the same. If you already have figured your problem out, then sorry for a late reply.

There should be 2 APNs indeed: Rogers' look like this:
Main APN:
Name: Roger #1
APN: internet.com
MCC: 302
MNC: 720
APN type: default,supl,mms
APN protocol: IPv4
Bearer: Unspecified
Leave everything else as is.
MMS APN:
Name: Rogers MMS
APN: rogers-core-appl1.apn
MMSC: http://mms.gprs.rogers.com
MMS proxy: 10.128.1.69
MMS port: 80
MCC: 302
MNC: 720
APN type: mms
APN protocol: IPv4
Bearer: Unspecified
Leave everything else as is.
There's also a LTE one and couple others but aren't needed on our phone.
So yeah, Virgin should have something similar to those. And of course, gotta be on data (3G)
Let's hope that's all it is, I couldn't help but notice that the reference was "APN" instead of "APN's". I'm just finishing work on a Captivate and happen to have a Virgin acct so I'll try it shortly and see
Oh my. I am so sorry, I didnt even get close to trying my virgin acct on the captivate I was working on. The customer was hovering to get it back, so sorry for misleading. How did you make out ElleJay? did you finally get your unit going?

i had a similar problem a few months back and sporadically since. i talked to rogers and was advised to go into apn type and edit it to say - internet, mms instead or default, supl, mms
try it and exit then go back in and make sure it stuck. for some reason it takes more than one try sometimes.
hope that helps
Remember, they bought with rogers as original, but are trying to setup virgin...but yeah, the overall consencus is that they may be missing an apn setting and "of course, gotta be on data (3g)" lol. Now just more concerned as to whether its up and running.

maybe try restoring only the modem from the last good backup where you had 3G?

Also, like laughingT mentioned, flashing another modem could help.
On 4.2.1 I couldn't find how to access APN settings. The ROM seemed a bit stripped down to me. Not as many options as on 4.1.2. I'm sure it will get better with age. I'm not a complete noob but I can say I've never flashed a modem or fiddled with APN settings. Never had a reason to. Guess I have some reading to do.

APN = settings -> more -> mobile network -> access point names (APN)
Flashing a different modem is quite simple, just grab the .zip and flash it but check your APN first.
Anyone have the APN settings for this ROM? I've entered my previous settings and still no luck. Also have entered other settings. Haven't flashed a modem yet cause I'm not sure if APN is right. Why has noone else had this problem with this ROM?

It's not a ROM problem. APNs are from your carrier, if they don't matches, you make them match.
If they're fine, try flashing other modems.
I've entered the 5 or 6 different APN lists I have found for att captivate and nothing has worked. I have the same modem everyone else got with the ROM yet I've seen no problems posted. I'l take your advice though.

This did it! Only thing I notice different is instead of blinking 3g/H above signal bars, H stays there and never goes away. Is this normal?
H instead of 3G is normal. Its a little bit faster than 3G and shows you've got it.
