[Q] Insecure Kernel download? - Sprint HTC One (M7)

I want to S-OFF my ONE (1.55 hboot) but rumrunner requires an insecure kernel. Right now I'm at work and downloading an entire ROM that contains an insecure kernel is out of the question. I RUU'd back to stock 3.04 last night, and I'm now dev unlocked and rooted, but the kernel is still secure. Is there a way to just get a flashable insecure kernel without having to download an entire ROM?
Thanks.

It doesn't state anywhere it requires an insicure kernel, where did you find that info. Read here http://rumrunner.us/instructions/

flash an unsecure kernel
This is what I get from rumrunner:
Please wait....
..........
Checking for updates......
Test 1: Rebooting into bootloader
Waiting for fastboot (8/120)
Waiting
Test 2: Booting device
Waiting for ADB (33/120)
must ferment longer...
must sanitize, skunky rum is nasty
hold please..............................................
[------------------------------------------------------------]
Rebooting into bootloader (again)
Waiting for fastboot (7/120)
Waiting for ADB (33/120)
must ferment longer...
chilling..................
it's a little stinky here, hmm....
bottles are packed, here we go, shhhhhh....
hmm, cap is on tighter than I expected........
hell, that damn cap is on REALLY tight.......
unfortunately this isn't going to work out with your configuration. you have 2

2.) flash a different rom.

Easiest thing to do is just flash a different ROM. OMJ's stock 4.3 rom has an insecure kernel built in. Rumrunner workes first try for me after flashing that rom.

[Q] I have S-ON... why?!

OK, so I unlocked my HTC one bootloader with the 'legit' method (as it came with android 4.2.2) via the HTC site.
I have TWRP, tried a bunch of custom roms and a couple of different kernels.
Well, I decided that I liked a previous kernel and went back to re-flash it again. It wouldn't work. When doing it the phone would just reboot every time, or simply freeze on trying to do it.
After a while, I noticed that S-OFF was S-ON again :S
I haven't made an intentional attempt of switching it back again.
Not sure even how it happened!
Any ideas how to get S-OFF again? And maybe any ideas why it may have reverted on it's own accord?
Thanks,
Mark.
I don't think it was ever S-Off; the HTCDev site unlock keeps security on. And as to my knowledge Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 has HBoot 1.54. Someone double check me on that... But yeah, you can't S-Off now with HBoot 1.54; only 1.44 is supported. If your HBoot is 1.44, then just do it through Revone; Google "Revone S-Off" and you will find the XDA thread on how to do it.

OK, that's fair enough, I probably was under the false assumption that I had S-OFF and didn't.
Having said that, I was also under the assumption that to flash a kernel, S-OFF was required?
Am I wrong on that? I have definitely managed to flash a couple of them already, and now they won't do so. Any thoughts on what could be causing that, if this isn't the issue?
Thanks,
Mark.
Nope, with the One, we can flash the kernel in recovery with s-on.
Only in some device like One X/S/V we can't do this without s-off.
However, from htcdev you will only unlock the bootloader, you will stay with s-on

OK, thanks for the consise info.
Based on this though, can you think of any reason that I wouldn't be able to flash a kernel?
It was working fine, and now it isn't.
I've tried elementalx and bulletproof.
I can set them both up through the aroma installer, but when it actually comes to flashing, as I already stated, the script starts and my phone either freezes or reboots.
Kinda annoying
You can flash any kernel with s-on.
I flashed they before achived the s-off
So, aroma will freeze?
Try the faux and report the log here

This is an aroma bug. Came with an update to the aroma installer, not kernel related. Current fix is to retry process until it works.

htc one rum runner s-off hboot 1.55

Hey all ,
I recently updated to 4.3 with hboot 1.55 and ive been trying to get s-off with rum runner tool. However when I use the exploit it reaches a point where it says that there is a rom or root issue. I am running the stock rom and I rooted the phone properly as I have superuser. Anyone knows what might be wrong ?
Disable screen timeout and if it prompts on screen, hit agree.

I am running the stock 4.3 rom from htc with sense 5.5. Should I try flashing CM or something ?
I guess get on ViperMod or ARHD ROM and try it again..

Hello,
Any luck with S-off htc one?
I`m having the same error when trying to s-off my htc one 32 gb bootloader unlocked/rooted (Nightly ROM > CM11 - 4.4.2)
Whats your main version?
fastboot getvar version-main
You should flash a rooted ROM (best would be stock ROM), which match your main version.
And then you could try again to S-OFF your device.
Also you should disable your anti-virus software and firewall, during you try to S-OFF.
And use a USB 2.0 port.

Firewater S-OFF on Sprint HTC One w\hboot 1.56 works

I can confirm that firewater s-off works perfectly on the later kitkat software for the sprint htc one with hboot 1.56.
I prefered to use a rom with insecure kernel and root, infact I used the ViperOne 3.5 rom, and it worked perfectly on the first try. Its fantastic, that you dont need windows necessarily for this method!

I just figured I would post this, just incase there are those who arent sure if it works or not.
i am trying to do this from my mac on an unrooted/s-on stock Sprint HTC one on 4.4.2
i have uninstalled HTC Sync Manager
I have the temproot and firewater files in the same android folder as adb and fastboot
adb reboot
adb wait-for-device push firewater /data/local/tmp
The phone reboots and i get the following message
cannot stat 'firewater': No such file or directory
any suggestions?
Maybe the space after firewater is causing the issue?

Sadly I can confirm the temproot method does not work with the htc one, so you must be unlocked and rooted in order to use this method.
This is the error I got every single time I attempted to run temproot:
[email protected]:/data/local/tmp $ ./temproot
run_root_shell, thanks fi01 - https://github.com/android-rooting-tools/android_run_root_shell

error in setsockopt().
Failed to get prepare_kernel_cred address.
Failed to get commit_creds address.
Failed to get ptmx_fops address.
Failed to setup variables.
So that would imply the htc one doesnt work with the temproot method. sadly.
Does this work work with Viper Rom 5.0?
It should work

It should, cant imagine why it wouldnt. I think you just need to make sure you are rooted, and that adb has root access. I imagine an insecure kernel is probably something good to have for this, but thats just my guess. in any case this is the second easiest root method for the htc one lol

easy as pie, folks:
1) load up @benny3's latest stock deodexed (or odexed if your really care) ROM;
2) yes -- the above has the correct kernel;
3) run it, update SuperSU just for good measure (run SuperSU and let it update in TWRP (mine, of course -- lol -- unless you like another build );
4) follow instructions.
takes about two minutes, done.
1.55 hboot is fine too, so's 1.56. How do I know? Cuz I did 'em. LOL.

No go running 1.56 here. Any enlightenment will help. I've done the above and followed the instructions on an OS X 10.8.2, Windows 7 x32 fresh, and Windows 8.1 x64. Baseband 1.00.20.1108 Software 3.05.651.6 if that helps.
Firewater worked on 4.4.2 with hboot 1.56
I tried Rumrunner with no succsess. Used several different Roms. Tried with unsecured kernels. Odexed and Deodexed.
I was about to give up. I saw several folks had used Firewater with good results.
1) I HTC Dev unlocked
2) Used the Android Revolution HD Rom.
3) Updated to SuperSu 1.94 (1.93 was giving me a weird boot loop)
4) Debugging engaged, Fastboot disengaged.
5) No sync software from HTC or anyone else on the PC.
6) Dropped the firewater folder in with the adb
7) Ran exactly as directed. I did get a root type request. So I answered SU.
8) One bottle of firewater was chugged. Stated as good and hot.
9) S-off achieved in about 4 minutes or less
Now, I cannot tell you if I needed the unsecured kernel for Firewater. But, to get anyplace close with Rumrunner it was needed.
Rumrunner went through a bunch of bottles then told me to reboot, rerun Rumrunner, and pray.
Now, I can complete my original task from 6 weeks ago. I want to go back to 4.3. Some things I am using do not work well with
4.4. Photo Vault. Mighty Text, Emoticons vs the suck-ass emoji, and so forth. I will thank the devolopers with a bottle of firewater
later today.

Can confirm this. Followed your directions and got s-off on 1.56. Thanks!
I can't get it to work at all. I have tried15-20 times and every time the same result. 12 cans and no buzz
I have tried the Android Revo 31.6 ROM, 3 different Venom ROM's, 2 different Bad Boy ROMS and benny3's latest ROM
I try on a hard drive with a new install of Windows 7, installed HTC Sync and removed HTC Sync. No other programs installed. It's a fresh
windows 7 install.
I have all the correct settings including 1 hour wake, no lock screen, and some other various settings I stumbled across.
I am plugged into a USB 2.0 port on back of computer(Tower PC)
I have SuperSu 1.94( which always wants to install binary and reboots)
It does not work. My phone is brand new, not sure if that makes a difference.
Any help is appreciated

[Q] flashing rom s-on

I have an AT&T variant m7 running 4.1.2 and I'm gonna be unlocking, flashing tarp, and rooting. Ok so I after having a bunch of issues with htcdev site I finally unlocked my bootloader using the kingo program, then I flashed twrp 2633 and rooted although I forgot to erase cache after flashing twrp. At first it didn't boot in recovery, just booted up normally but it worked the second time, after rooting root checker said I didn't have proper root but after rebooting again it says it is rooted. Superuser said I need to update binaries wasn't sure how but I read somewhere to install superSU from playstore. Anyways that's not really my issue, just thought I'd let u know it was goin. I'm not sure why you want to S-off. You have now unlocked, changed recovery, and rooted. You can simply download viper one rom and flash it from recovery. You dont need to flash any boot.img for m7. I hope that helps. If you still want to S-off use rumrunner. revone is not supported for bootloader that comes with 4.1.2. Do note that you cannot s-on again once you s-off the device.

I was getting s-off because I was told to get s-off so I could flash the 3.17 ruu to update my hboot/ touchscreen drivers and radio before flashing viper, which I figured so viper would run smoother. I'm a noob just getting into modding. Well after failing with revone, rumrunner, and firewater I went ahead and flashed viper, and everything was fine. I can't help be bugged by the fact that you told me to get s-off and flash that ruu to get the updated radio and touchscreen drivers, I read that I need a 4.2 Rom to get revone to work so I am gonna give it another try. I tried running firewater with ARHD and it said that it had an anti-firewater patch. So I am just curious as to what the importance of having the updated hboot, radio, and touchscreen drivers. I just feel like I should still get it done since u told me not to skip that step, not to mention later on down the line when I get more familiar with all of this dev and modding stuff I might want to do other things that require a-off. Thanks for all your help and info . Before I continue with it I made a backup of viper with the setting and themes I've set up, after I get s-off and flash the ruu, should I 're-flash the Rom or can I restore my backup with out changing any of the updated software, I didn't think the Rom would have anything to do with it but I just wanna make sure. Thanks

Do you think firewater will work with viper+Elemental X kernel? If I used the same guide as with ARHD. I tried to s-off with revone by flashing a 4.2.2 viper Rom but I lost all signal and service, so I restored my backup. Also I was wondering since I'm running the 3.17 ruu to update radio and stuff , should I use the 4.18 ruu since its newer? Thanks again for all the help.
UPDATE: Well ran firewater since coudnt get revone to work , took all of like 45 seconds and it said device is s-off. Couldn't believe it after all the trouble I've had.Awesome!

So, for the past two days, I have been trying to S-Off my HTC One (M7), and it seems I have never been in luck. There was only my last hope with the Insertcoin gpe ROM, and it just opens, I click next in the setup, shuts down, restarts over and over. Basically bricked my phone, I re-installed my last ROM again. I have tried Revone, firewater, moonshine, and rumrunner. All of them didn't work for me. I'm currently running the AICP 4.4.2 ROM. My bootloader is unlocked, I'm rooted, and my hboot is 1.57.0000. I don't see what is the problem with my device. I am trying to get S-Off so I can convert my One into the gpe edition. If you could tell me step by step, thoroughly on how to get S-Off, or even install Insertcoin with S-Off, I will be very grateful. Thanks in advance. PS. Sorry if I posted this in the wrong section, I'm quite new here.

Well, it didn't work, but something has changed. Usually, I used to get to bottle 12 and then it tells me to restart and try again. this time, it gets to bottle 2 and tells me to retry. Is there something else I'm supposed to do to get it to work? Thanks for your reply btw.

What about rumrunner s-off
.
@omarx5656
Flash bulletproof 14.2 kernel and then firewater step by step and you will get s-off quickly

just take the boot.img from the bulletproof.zip file and flash it manually, flashing the zip in recovery wont work

You can use flash image gui app from play store for kernel flash
.
The best way is to use your originally 4.4.2 stock and then flash only bulletproof 14.2 for 4.4.2 roms

Sorry but, do I need to have Sense or GPE in order to install it? Last time I've tried installing that kernel on a custom ROM, it bricked my device. So, I'm guessing I will need Sense, but do I need to be fully stock or can I just install another custom ROM with Sense such as the ViperOne?
