So i know this is probably covered and i been looking through the forum but i was hoping someone could link me to it fast. I want to completely turn my kindle fire hd 7 into a driod tablet. I seen the way were u have both kindle os and jelly bean running, but can u compeltely remove kindle os and have a purley andriod tablet....maybe i over looked it during my search through ur forums and if i did my apologies, but any help would be awsome.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean. Do you mean running stock Amazon OS + JellyBean? If so, that is not possible. Stock OS uses Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0.3), whereas JellyBean is version 4.2.2 (for KFHD at least). At it's core, the Kindle already does run Android. It's just really locked down by Amazon. Rooting it allows you to do your own things to it to make it more like a regular Android tablet. Installing JellyBean completely wipes out all the Amazon apps and services.

yes i know kindle os is based off andriod, i dont want toerun them both i want to completely take the kibndle os off and have a plain old driod 4.3 jelly bean running on it, or even better 4.4 kitkat

now is this cm11 process the same thing as what im describing...alot of them seem like just rooting options aand then u can add google play app...i just want the kindle stock os completely off..its useless to me...eveything i wanna do wit a tablet i cant do on it cause its so limited by amazon
I'm confused as to what you are asking, dude. You can't "turn off" the Amazon OS. You do have several options though. You can run stock, root, and install a 3rd party Launcher like Nova or Apex to keep the Amazon installed OS (which is an Android base) without being a slave to the interface, or you can run Kinology, which is the stock Amazon OS with some pretty slick tweaks, or (and I think this is what you are asking) if you truly want to eliminate the Amazon OS and go with stock Android you can install 4.2.1, 4.2.2, 4.3, and now 4.4 beta all from the Dev forum. These pure-ish android ROMs are all CM and all the non-Amazon based ROMs in the forum currently will be built from these. I hope this adequately answers your question. If not maybe you can clarify a little more and we'll be happy to help.

Your last option is the one im looking for...I jus twant the amozon os gone and a pure andriod one....sorry for the confusing.. Ive never rooted anything and i didnt know which process on the forum was the one i wanted to use.
One word of advice, read through the instructions a few times before you take the plunge. Once it's set up its simple to try out the different ROMs. Just need to be sure to follow the instructions.

2 very important things to note, make sure in fire flash to check the box about downgrading the boot loader, its the box at the top with red text after it. The other thing is to download a ROM you want onto the device first along with its gapps or you will have a bit of a hassle getting it on there after you do this because the kindle will bootloop into recovery after you do this because of a stupid boot loader version check the os checks on boot up, and if the versions don't match it bootloops. Just make sure to read through that entire guide and I suggest making backups like it says.

So my dad got this for me for black friday and at first I was really excited to get it but I learned that this isn't a tablet like the galaxy tab or ipad but an e-reader with some tablet like qualities.
As much as I like it, I'd like an android tablet to actually download apps and stuff from....
I hear you can root it/hack it to act as an android base tablet...
Is this something that is easy for a newbie person who is not familiar with rooting can do?
Where would I need to look at first for directions on rooting and installing the Android OS?
I just want a stock android build that allows me to download google play apps.

The Rom I use is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1344873 . To make it look like ICS I use a theme from the themes and apps section. There is a guide in the development selection that will walk you through the setup process and installation to either internal memory or Sd card.

Yes, you can either root the stock ROM so that it has more Android tablet features or you can put a custom ROM either on SD or internal memory replacing stock. If you just want to root, use Manual Nooter here. If you want to put on SD, go here or here. If you want to replace stock, go here.

Mirage is based on CyanogenMod 7. CyanogenMod 10 is also available.
I´ve been researching this forum for the last week since I´ve got my new Kindle Fire 2nd. Generation. with software version 10.1.1 already rooted using this method and now I´m in doubt about the next step.
Whats the best option? Go with a custom CM7 or CM10 ROM? Stay with the custom firmware and just use one of the several custom launchers to get rid of the horrible Amazon Carousel interface?
Is the CM10 ROM stable enough? All of the functions work properly? Is battery severely affected?
Also I cant seem to find a simple step by step guide for installing CM10 for the KF 2nd Gen.
Most of the content seem to be for the Kindle Fire 1st. Gen or for the new Kindle Fire HD.

Generally speaking (I can't testify to how well CM10 runs on the KF), I prefer to use the existing Android base that is installed and customize THAT rather than using a custom ROM. Amazon optimizes the version of Android to support the hardware so using that will generally have the best battery life and best performance.
I rooted my KFHD 7" and installed Go Launcher EX. Using that launcher and a few more tweaks like using Google Play and Chrome browser work extremely well.
CM 10 has many things wrong with it, and it should not be used as a daily driver. I recommend for the moment enjoying, the amazon rom, or you can mess around with the other if your willing to test things.

thanks for the tip! I will choose the custom rom route then, so I'm wondering, is there any safe way to prevent the ROM updates from Amazon? (in order to keep my KF rooted and with my configuration.

All of the methods I´ve been reading about blocking updates seem unreliable, with users reporting finding the Kindle with a new updated ROM after an automatic update and things like that, thats why I´m asking.
Regarding that, is better to leave my KF rooted with firmware 10.1 or update it to the latest firmware version?

Fire or Fire HD? There are no Jellybean ROM's yet for the Fire HD. Yes, there is an early alpha for the 7".... but seeing that your looking to be directed to one I bet to guess your not up to skill for an alpha build.
Just read the forums and decide whether or not to root for your taste, and then install a gapps package if you feel educated enough.

Rooting doesn't take much skill, as long as you're careful and can follow exact directions. Once rooted you should be able to install a 3rd party launcher, such as Nova,Apex,GoLauncher etc. From there, nobody would be able to tell that you don't have a Jellybean tablet. My tablet actually functions and looks almost identical to my Jellybean Nexus S 4g phone. Give that a whack, and maybe when there is a stable Jellybean build available you'll be up to par for Flashing a new ROM to your tablet without bricking.

Do what he said. It works, and my tablet is decent now. There is currently now way to put a new ROM on your KF2 though

Only one ROM so far. Kinology ROM. Just go to 7 inch KFHD android development forum and follow the instructions exactly. I found the Tom to be much better than stock. Much easier to intall all the Google apps and whatever launcher you want.

There is no good kernel for the kfhd7, so no real Roms yet.. just modded stock roms

I think I will stick to my current root, seeing as my battery is already down. Although, if this Kinology ROM will change my status bar and such, I will probably do it. Also, will Titanium backup work with it?

Ive never done this before, and i see ALOT of info on here about it. Basically, im sure there is already a thread that will tell me everything i need with download resources.... just asking, can someone direct me to a link, with everything i will need to do this without a Boot cable, and include a stable version of the Android OS, something in the 4.x series.
I dont care if its the stock rom, or a custom rom, prefer a debloated custom rom made to run great, without any bugs or so.... Im confused by everything going on, its alot to take in when your not up to date on whats been going on. Thanks everyone!

If your Kindle doesn't have a camera, it won't work with the ROMs in this subforum.
That being said, for tutorials, check the stickied threads.

You have the 2012 model of the Kindle Fire HD; you're in the right place. Read Seokhun and Hashcode's stickies above -- there's a lot of information here, but those are far and away the most important and have all the links you need to go from stock Amazon to Cyanogenmod 11 (Kit-Kat based), although you should refer to the post about installing TWRP 2.8.3.0 recovery below instead of installing 2.7.0.0. What you should know about development for the Kindle is that hybrid OSs (opening up Amazon's version of ICS) were followed byJelly Bean and then Kit-Kat based ROMs and there are now Lollipop-based ones too. CM11 is a good choice.
