[Q] Keep the LED on for taking pictures?? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Alright, so I can't find the answer to my question anywhere so I am posting here.
Is there anyway to keep the LED light on for taking pictures? I hate how the LED only turns on when the picture is actually being taken because the pictures are always out of focus or over exposed. I would like to either have a way to keep the flashlight running in the background with the camera on or some other kind of mod to do essentially the same thing.
I am on rooted 4.3 with S-off. If you need any more details, let me know!
EDIT: Alright, I found a flashlight app that keeps the flashlight on without being in the app or the screen being on. The problem, however, is that if it is on, the camera app says "Unable to start camera" when I try to open it. Perhaps the stock camera app needs a mod to allow the LED to be on when launched?

You could always start videorecording and keep the flash on during the entire recording. Meanwhile you can tap the photo button to take pictures. Delete the videoclip afterwards. Thats the only way I think. Or maybe with an app, but I have no clue which one would suit your needs.

While that would work if I really needed it, the pictures would be 1920x1080 instead of the 4mp. I'm really looking for an app or mod to allow the flashlight to stay on without the app being open.

flashlight when camera starts

does anyone know how to enable the light on the back to automatically come on when the camera starts. Right now i have to click on the screen then click settings then click flash light, i would just like to skip all that. thanks
up and up and up
This feature would actually make the camera act like a camera....lol
Really wish HTC and Microsoft would finish their programs. It seems like they start it and quickly make everthing work....sort of.....lol
waiting for this too...

to go left or right you actually need to click between the buttons (ex. between home and call) there is actually a youtube video teaching people how to do it.

well you are correct, it still hit the ok if i go fast but i can live with that but i still want my flash to come on when the camera comes on
thanks for the tip and making me look stupid lol
for athena it is not a setting in registry. just DeviceIoControl calls to set led on and off, while camera program is running. i wouldn't be surprised if touch pro is the same :/
in that case easiest i could think of is make a small app that does:
1) look in registry for setting if flashlight should be on or off when starting camera
2) load driver (or the camera api dll) and send the ioctl for ON if the registry value is set so
3) then it would launch the camera exe and then exit
4) whole thing would be registered in place of camera program for programs etc
(or patch camera app but that would be a bit more than a couple of bytes long patch. )

That sounds logical. It could actually poll the light sensor when the camera is run and then turn on the flash...

I don't think it polls the light sensor unless somethings wrong with mine cause i just went into a dark room waited about 30sec then turned on the camera and no flash unless i turned it on manually

I was implying that if someone could write a script or something that they could poll the light sensor to see if it was dark. Then tell the camera to turn on the flash.....lol
That's what i wish would happen. Thanks for testing it out though...lol

What about skipping the polling and just having the flash on every time the camera is on day or night. Girls love a flash going off.
Maybe there is a command line for this?

Auto flash on camera??
Is there a rom/cab/file/tweak that gets the cameras flash to work automatically as opposed to having to manually turn it on - this is silly!

it's semi-automatic if you turn it on, it's only lighting half's its power. When you take a shot it's flashes
However, you're absolutly right, we need more options
nope, i couldnt find it. In the past there was an other HTC model (dont remember which one) who also had a flash light but also didnt work aswell.
This is in development right now. There is a thread regarding this. I am just to lazy to search for it today.
cool well its good to know its in development, i cuoldnt find it either - Xperia has the saem problem
strange really but hope they sort it out its time cnsuming and annoying - seeingas we are able to use things like Htorch i cant see it being a big deal unfortunately i cant cook otherwise id be on it
any news with this?

Shoot Video with LED Flash on? (like Iphone 4)

Hey guys,
As you know there is an app called which turns on the LED Flash. I tried to use camcorder and Tesla at the same time but seems like camcorder wont work simultaneously with led on.
I was wondering if our developers have an idea to make it work.
using camcorder when its dark it totally not practical.
Froyo (Android 2.2 as you seem to not know) does this.

Try the Nexus one torch. I got it working.
if you open the app from the menu then close it to open the camcorder then it wont work, but the n1 torch has a widget. you can click on the widget to turn it on then clock on the camcorder.
the nexus already does this with the 2.2 froyo update. its built right into the camera app, straight from google themselves.
Im using Froyo actually, I opened Tesla first then opened camera to switch to camcorder but it fc.
I installed rudrigez rom, do you guys have separate camcorder icon, mine just has camera (used to be separate)
Im gonna try torch as u said tnx let u know it worked

No, you can switch the LED on/off. It is built into the video recorder. I use it all the time
My old BB Storm could do that.

heheh yeah, open the camera and switch to video mode. it can now turn on the LED while you record a video in the dark.
This thread should be renamed "iPhone 4 can use flash during video recording just like froyo has always been able to do"

[App] SpyCam - use your Mango phone as a hidden camera!

Hi,
I just want to share my app with community - the app is called SpyCam and it's pretty simple - you can use it for taking pictures using the main camera in predefined interval. The pictures are then saved into Saved pictures folder in Pictures Hub. But what is so unique on this app - it works under lockscreen - that's right, you start the photo shooting, press the on/off button to turn off the screen, plant is somewhere and let it take photos secretly
Note the app must be in foreground when locking using the on/off button to take pictures under lockscreen, it can't work in background.
I tried to put it on Marketplace, but it failed two times because "it appears that this application promotes spying". According to the certification guy it's not allowed in certain countries to have such app. Strangely there is lot of similar apps in MP for recording sound under lockscreen, so I don't know where is the problem.
I had big plans with this app, because the idea of taking pictures under lockscreen is quite tempting, but with the fail during cert process I don't have strength to develop it further. (Skyrim is more important right now I got even somewhere my technology demo based on SpyCam for storing taken pictures on SkyDrive, so it basically works as a live webcam - you can watch what's going on in front of the phone on Internet, but it's not stable enough for general release.
Feel free to use it under condition you wont try to publish similar app on marketplace Let me know, how it works. Note although it's not 100% stable, it should just work most of the time. I'm using there a bit of thread magic to handle all that PhotoCamera callbacks and async calls for taking photos and storing them, so nothing is guaranteed
And one more thing, you just need Mango and regular dev unlock. Interop unlock is not necessary Tested on HTC HD7
Don't hesitate to share it using Twitter or other media
my address: twitter.com/martinsuchan
Edit: uploaded two screenshots
Also my second try in MP used different name for the app: 'myCam', but they rejected it with the same message
Edit: This app does NOT work on WP8 as I have just discovered, it even causes freeze or random reboot!
Good work Sir!
Shame the Marketplace Police have no sense of humour
N3croman
cool app , thanks man. upload in marketplace
Works exactly as you said . I am getting a video done will post it here. Reviewed it on WPXBOX. com However I dont get to understand how to make it work under lock screen. I tried pressing the camera button when locked but nothing happened.
Check out the video here.
Under lockscreen
You need to check the "run under lockscreen" option in settings and then restart the app (press Back button in the main screen and start is again).
Then start the shooting (optionally wait for the first pic to be sure), and then press the on/off button. Now it should take photos in selected time interval.
Note the app must be in foreground when locking using the on/off button to take pictures under lockscreen, it can't work in background.
If you have selected 5s interval wait about 20s and then press On/Off button again, unlock the screen and if everything worked as expected there should be new 3 or 4 pictures
this app is great and cool and has a big potantial
well done (graphics, functionalities...)
ty
but can i wish a request, could you add a feature to enable flash/led on photos? (i know that this make the app less spyfull... but i'd like to keep pics during nighttime, i.e. of my pets while sleeping or to see what i did while dreaming ^^)
fyi
tried on omnia7 interopped latest fw
Thanks. Yes it took me time to realize on this. But loving your app here.
You might think of integrating it with Dropbox or a cloud service to give option to someone to upload it right there. Just an idea

I realize some countries may not allow it, but couldn't you just submit to certain countries?
Rename the app to "Time Lapse Capture" and change the description to be as such. Problem solved
Very good thank you
Awesome app with great potential
As suggested in a previous post I would resubmit as a time-lapse photography app, that's what I have downloaded it for, I will test it while climbing mountains and then relive my route after. What's the chances of of getting a 5 min interval option. Great work don't give up on getting it on the MP pls
Hi,
Your app sounds like a good idea. Will try it.
Don't give up, good luck with the re-submit!
Great app!
Have great protential too bad MS isn't into great apps :-(
Nice app, thanx

Virtual Tour Shot Camera Mode

Anyone have any idea how to use this? When I select this mode, I get the pop up window that explains what it is and the message at the bottom to align the circle with the pointer, but the screen shows a blue dot inside the white circle no matter where I'm pointing, which orientation I'm holding the phone and there's no option to activate the camera....it's grayed out, and the settings are for the video only. I can tap on the video button, but then it just records video.
Anyone have any idea how to actually use this mode?
Follow the information on the screen. It'll tell you what to do. The dot will be your focal point and the Circle will eventually pop up. You'll need to go either left or right or straight.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
The circle doesn't do anything. I have it pointing down a hall way and nothing happens. ..
once you start panning or moving forward a new circle shows up, you just match the dot to the new circle, very simple
Is it supposed to automatically just detect the "scene" and start? Are there some other settings that, when activated, disable this functionality? Do you have to activate the first shot by hitting the camera button (because if so, mine doesn't let me tap on it).

I swear I tried that! I started walking down the hallway, and there are doors visible that are open along the hallway, and NOTHING happens... :crying::crying::crying: I WANT THIS FEATURE TO WORK! LOL

Ok, after 30 mins with Samsung tech support and then booting up into Safe Mode, we determined that there's some 3rd party app that may be inhibiting the VT Shot function, because it DID work in Safe Mode. I even uninstalled the google camera app.....Although that didn't seem to be the issue.....with this in mind, and knowing that this phone is not rooted, what's the best approach to help identify which app could be the culprit here? I don't want to wholesale factory reset and slowly add one app at a time....any ideas?

SOLVED! I FIGURED OUT THE CULPRIT! On my old S4, I was using the app "Moves" (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.protogeo.moves) which was a Pedometer app. But now that S Health is so integrated with the phone, I actually don't need it, so when I removed it, Virtual Tour Shot cam mode started working. Makes sense that the app would interfere with the motion sensor.....

i bet you feel soooooooo relieved. its one of the best feelings in the world to go through meticulous trial and error and finally find the problem. congrats i really know how you feel haha
For sure! Especially because this is my first Android device which I have NOT rooted (victim of circumstance, not elective), so I knew it wasn't because of some weird rooted circumventing process. On the plus side, with s health's built-in pedometer setting, there's no need for Moves anymore.

background access

So I've been getting notifications that Google allo has been using the camera in the baground And screen over lay, I'll add a screen shot as well. Anybody got an idea as to why it would be using the camera in the background? I haven't used the camera on the app at all, and I can't remember the last time I did.

Did you try to attach any pic? That might gave it camera permission.
Anyway you can disable that permission in settings/apps/google allo.

I did end up going in, and disabling the camera permission. I was taking pictures around that time, but with the camera app, and not sending them with allo. I just stored them on the phone. Its just my paranoia that makes me feel like it's taking a peak at my pictures even when I don't use the app, which it probably is doing.
