[Q] Failed OTA 4.4 Update - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First I had a HTC One with Sense (European edition, GSM) then I flashed to 4.3(with htcdev). That worked but now I did the official 4.4 update. And now I can't boot anymore.
Tried a lot of things but all I tried didn't work, would really apreciate if somebody could help me (don't care if I lose all my data just want a working phone again).
What I know about my phone:
-modelid: PN0710000
-Can boot to and use fastboot (although only with Ubuntu, fastboot in Windows 8.1 doesn't recognize the phone)
-adb doesn't work in fastboot, but works when I access CWM (through bootloader -> RECOVERY)
-Bootloader info: TAMPERED, UNLOCKED, HBOOT-1.44.0000
-S-ON, phone is not rooted
-Getting S-OFF didn't work (-> CWM -> adb -> ... with revone)
I'm pretty overwhelmed with all the things you should supposed to know, tried my best to get all the relevant infos together.
Sorry if this question is stupid, but I just can't figure it out how I get out of this mess, Any help is greatly appreciated.
Edit: Forget to say: Unforturnately didn't make a back up.

Can you post the output of fastboot getvar all ?
Also what is the date for your HBOOT 1.44 ?

Its the 5-6th line probably on bootloader screen. Should say Feb, May, or June..

VODAP110 CID corresponds to x.x.161.x image.. The only thing I have found you can restore to is http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/m7-cwm-nandroid-backup-cid-vodap102-1-29-161-7-7z/ Please use nkk71's guide listed in my signature to restore.
Also just to check, can you issue a command: fastboot erase cache, and then fastboot reboot ?

"fastboot erase cache and then fastboot reboot" didn't work out (HTC logo stays indefinitely).
I try to load now this image and report back if this worked, anyways thanks for your help so far :good:

Unfortunately tried that already and didn't work: In fastboot adb doesn't recognize my phone and in CWM ./revone -P gets an error back (error -1 I think).

This has to be ran when booted in the phone OS

[Q] No Rom and RUU not working

My terminology will probably be off or just plain wrong. Sorry but I am doing my best to give as much info as possible and appreciate the help.
I have a Sprint HTC One (US). I recently tried to put a new rom on my phone and messed up somewhere along the way. I think I wiped where I was loading the rom from :silly:. I now have no rom installed and my computer is not able to connect to or see the phone. When I try and use adb and run the "detect devices" command it comes back with nothing. So then I tried running the RUU for my phone and in versions 1.29.651.10, 1.29.615.7, and 1.29.615.6 I have received error code 155 in all of them. I read that means I need the boot loader to be locked but cannot find a way to do that if the adb is not detecting my phone.
I am able to get into TWRP v2.6.1.0. If I do not hold down the volume down key while trying to boot it will sit on the HTC logo screen.
At the top of the boot loader I have:
***TAMPERED***
***UNLOCKED***

HBOOT-1.44.0000
RADIO-1.00.20.0626

Make sure the rom you tried to flash was sprint compatible. Might be your issue. Boot your phone in bootloader mode, select fastboot then connect usb cable to computer. Open a cmd prompt from your adb/fastboot folder and type this command:
Code:
fastboot getvar all
copy/paste output here but remove IMEI and SN
also ADB only works when phone is booted to OS or RECOVERY
FASTBOOT works when phone is in bootloader mode.
so the command to relock the bootloader is
Code:
fastboot oem lock
don't lock the bootloader yet, want to be sure if the ruu match your getvar info.

You need s-off to use these ruu because its a version downgrade (from 1.31.651.2 ----> 1.29.651.7)
So you need to s-off with revone tool before using ruu. don't forget you have a sprint version and you can't use some stuff here. You must make sure you always download srpint compatible rom and recovery (M7_WLS)

So what would the order of operations be? Relock boot loader, s-off, then ruu?
Is there any problem that when I type "adb devices" it returns with nothing? I know it was able to pull the info for the getvar but am unsure how that is possible.

don't relock bootloader! Flash a sprint compatible rom, then s-off with revone. when you have s-off, remove tempered flag from bootloader and set it to ''locked'' not ''relocked'' and then flash the ruu.
btw adb commands like ''adb devices'' will only work when OS is booted or in custom recovery, not in bootloader.

[Q] [Solved]HTC One Re-locked and S-ON

I'm trying to find some solution for me since yesterday with no joy...So I think that I'm one the most stupid or the most unlucky guy in the world.
My cousin bought one HTC M7 which was running Cyanogenmod, and he wanna go back to Android. As I had done already some flashings, a long time ago back to the HTC Diamonds, I stood up to help him.
I was following one guide which didn't mention the S-ON/S-OFF, and I just read about that after relocking the bootloader. Now, the phone is relocked and won't boot up the Cyanogen, and I can't unlock it in fastboot because it's S-ON! So, the only hope for my, as I understood, is that I need one RUU signed (because it's locked) and versioned above my current version (because it's S-ON). And there's my last problem: the CID is H3G_001 with version 3.62.771.3, I can't find any RUU above this one!!! :crying:
Is there any hope for me? Anywhere I could download the RUU or anyhow to unlock/change to S-OFF?
Here is my fastboot getvar all:

s-on has nothing to do with unlocking the bootloader. All phones come locked and s-on
just go to HTCDEV and get a new unlock token
---------- Post added at 07:05 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:00 PM ----------
Try these instructions I posted for someone yesterday
Unlock the bootloader at HTCDEV
then from fastboot USB
Flash recovery TWRP 2.6.3.4
http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/m7ul
fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.4-m7ul.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
then sideload this Rom to your phone
http://www.androidrevolution.org/downloader/download.php?file=Android_Revolution_HD-One_31.6.zip
TWRP / Advanced / ADB Sideload - swipe to sideload
From PC adb / fastboot folder
you use
adb sideload name-of-rom.zip
make sure the rom is in the same folder as adb / fastboot
Once your unlocked, flash recovery TWRP 2.6.3.3 then flash this...

Wow! We get some progress! The phone is finally unlocked, thank you very much! :highfive::highfive:
But when I'm trying to sideload it, won't work. If I try TWRP / Advanced / ADB Sideload, it returns:
Code:
ADB Sideload Complete
Failed
[CODE]
Updating partition details....
Full SELinux support is present
[/CODE]
And when I try from PC: adb sideload ROM.zip, it returns "error" device not found". What am I missing?
Thanks

I have an unlocked tampered bootloader, s-on, twrp installed and working (unrooted because su will not flash successfully) and no working OS. I have a usb otg flash drive working with the ruu and I can access it without any problem. Before I flash it, if I understand correctly, I'll need to relock my bootloader, right? How can I relock it with s-on? is there a way or should I go another route. I just want to get back to any working rom right now. I really don't care if it is rooted unrooted locked or not. just working. any help greatly appreciated.

majmoz, yeah that worked but now I am not sure if I should have locked it. I can't get to recovery anymore. just have a working bootloader and that is it. the bootloader is Tampered, Relocked S-on. Do you know if I can still install an ruu via fastboot and/or adb? Or is this the end of the road

You can install a RUU.zip via fastboot. Just place it in your fastboot/adb folder and rename to ruu.zip.
Code:
[B][I]adb reboot bootloader[/I][/B]
After that, type:
Code:
[B][I]fastboot oem rebootRUU [/I][/B]
NOTE: You should see a silver HTC logo come up on your phone after executing this command.
NOTE: if this command freezes, just disconnect the USB cable and hold the power and volume down buttons until the device reboots. Then, repeat the steps above again.
Finally:
Code:
[B][I]fastboot flash zip ruu.zip[/I][/B]
Repeat the same command: IMPORTANT
Code:
[B][I]fastboot flash zip ruu.zip[/I][/B]
NOTE: The green bar on the phone may not go to 100% of the bar ... but If you see completed on your computer command window, wait for a few seconds and move on.
Last Step:
Code:
[B][I]fastboot reboot[/I][/B]

What does it say in bootloader (relocked, tampered...?).
I bought a used M7 with warranty, of course it has pink tint on pictures, and sadly in bootloader it says relocked So probably no warranty... or can I get it back to locked?
It's S-ON

with S-ON, you can only get it to say RELOCKED at best. if you want to fully return to 100% out of the box you need S-Off
depending on what firmware/hboot/variant you have:

you can forget revone, moonshine, and rumrunner
you could try firewater, but I doubt it'll work (i could be wrong), but if you are willing to pay the devs $25, then I would recommend sunshine... it should work without any problems
after S-OFF, it'll be pretty easy to get you 100% out of the box

If that doesn't work, while still rooted do the following (I can't remember where I go this from though so I apologize to the source for not linking). Ensure of course that you have root before this and have adb setup correctly and connected to the phone with debugging enabled:
Code:
adb devices
adb shell
su (if needed to get a # prompt)
echo -ne '\x00' | dd of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p7 bs=1 seek=4265988
(i would very strongly recomend you copy/paste this)
exit
(exit a second time if you need to to get back to a normal > prompt)
adb reboot bootloader
Now you can confirm the removal of the TAMPERED status.
Mine is quite fun now... My device is rooted and s-off but with no TAMPERED sign

Soft-brick. Need help!

So I had my m7 running fine, rooted and running a custom ROM. I got the M8 and so I wanted to return it to stock so I could sell it. Im now regretting that because I can't get it to do anything now. I've reflashed various ROMs (stock and custom Sense ROMs) without any success. For awhile I could get the stock rom (or what i believe was stock) to boot but the touch screen wouldn't work so it was worthless. Now I only get it to set on the HTC logo with the white background. I've left it for over 30 minutes and nothing happens. I'm a semi-noob but this one has be stumped. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Here is what my bootloader looks like:

Your phone is the (M7_WLS CDMA) Sprint variant. You are not posting in the right forum, so I guess you are flashing roms/recoveries for the wrong variant (M7_UL GSM)

if your phone is s-on make sure to use the encrypted/signed version , not the decrypted one. bootloader must be locked or re-locked.

Yeah i'm using the encrypted one as far as i can tell (Sprint_HTC_One_m7wls_4.06.651.4_RUU.zip)
I am also relocked as you can see in the GET VAR screen. Maybe it has something to do with recovery or hboot. I don't know.

no, locked/unlocked/relocked status is not included in a getvar, its only displayed on the bootloader screen

Yes i ran the reboot command and it went to the htc screen and i powered it down and went back into fastboot-usb and ran the RUU. It stops at 4% and says Error 155 (unknown). Im using Windows 7. Thanks for your continued help.

well this is what the error means:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ERROR [155~159]: IMAGE ERROR
One of these error messages will appear when you use the incorrect RUU to update and the image file size is larger than the Flash ROM size. In this case, download the correct RUU version and try again.

[Q] NOOB Help - RECOVERY SIDELOAD Works, BOOTLoader FASTBOOT does not

I am stuck on trying to get my phone back to stock.
In doing so, I am sure I have made it worse! I still have bootloader which I "RELOCKED" so I could load stock ROM. S-OFF. I was on HBOOT 1.56 and down-graded to HBOOT 1.44.
Now I am at a loss as a NOOB!
I can sideload a ROM, but am guessing I need stock ZIP (decrypted)? I can only "SEE" device to sideload. Nothing else seems to work!
I don't care if it's AT&T stock or T-Mobile, but I am trying to get back to Factory. Can anyone HELP or point me in right direction? I am lost! :crying:
(I am sure I have spent 20+ hours trying to read/fix! my BRICK!)
I am running ClockMod v6.0.4.3

1) i'm assuming you have
modelid: PN0713000
cidnum: T-MOB010
(ie US T-Mobile M7_UL)
next time post a "fastboot getvar all" (excluding IMEI and s/n), which would provide much more info than the bootloader screen.
so you can use this RUU:
http://dl3.htc.com/application/RUU_...6_10.33Q.1718.01L_release_421697_signed_2.exe
2) you dont need a LOCKED/RELOCKED bootloader when you are S-OFF
3) your recovery is way outdated if you want to flash newer ROMs (TWRP is usually the favourite) http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/m7
4) are you running Windows 8/8.1 it's known to have issues with hboot 1.44, check http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52135024&postcount=2
lemme know if you need anything else, cause not entirely sure what your ultimate goal is
Can't get ROM to load.
Thanks for the INFO.
I tried that ROM and it fails. I am not sure what this phone had originally because I bought it used of EBay. I am trying to get back to "STOCK" so I can send in to HTC for camera repair.

Hboot 1.57 suggest a 6.xx.502.x version, you can't flash a 1.xx.502.x RUU, its a downgrade. Dowgrading requires S-OFF. Use a 6 or 7.xx.502.x RUU.

You can't downgrade the hboot with S-ON and you don't want to downgrade it if flashing a 7.xx.xxx.x RUU, you need at least hboot 1.57.

PLZ TELL ME HOW TO GET RID OF THIS ERROR....!!
Try with another computer, looks like a Windows problem not related to the ruu itself. Do you have the latest C++ redistr installed on your computer?
