[Q] Bricked GPE HTC One - blue grey screen - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Phone: HTC One GPE
OS: was 4.3
HBOOT: 1.54
S-ON
Tampered
Unlocked
I got the 4.4 OTA and attempted to install it. It got to the TWRP screen and started installing something that I couldn't stop.
It rebooted to the Google screen, but then it got to a blue grey screen that a couple of others have seen.
I cannot get back into TWRP but I can get into fastboot.
bootloader - cannot connect to adb from my mac (do not have access to a windows machine)
fastboot - can access
$ ./fastboot-mac getvar all

I cannot sideload or get into a recovery. What can I do?

Same issue here as well... I will watch this post, and happened the same way as you. Fastboot still works, phone will not connect to computer.

Can you flash custom recovery like TWRP or CWM? looks like your main version didn't update to 4.4 as it is 3.58, but you are on 3.06..
Also try to issue a fastboot clear cache command and reboot?
What

I was able to re-flash TWRP 2.6.1.0 (this was the one that was on when I first installed TWRP).
When you say clear cache - what do you mean?
Do you mean
Code:
fastboot -w
Code:
-w erase userdata and cache

There's a very good reason as to why your not supposed to install OTA's via custom recoveries
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk 4

fastboot erase cache
for good measure I'd do
fastboot erase userdata as well [note that this will wipe your device!]
your /system is likely trashed due to the borked OTA. So the best we can do with an s-on device and no official RUU for the GPE is write the system files from recovery using a rom.zip or a clean nandroid (couldn't find one). This rom seems to be the least tampered with: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2341395
before booting the rom the first time, reboot to bootloader.
you now need to flash the firmware.zip from the OTA.
fastboot rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
fastboot reboot
should be good to go after that.

Am I reading that right? flash firmware.zip twice?

yes. I know it looks retarded in sequence like that. it's because your updating hboot. it starts updating then reboots itself to flush and then you continue the flashing.

Still having trouble...
Code:
./fastboot-mac erase userdata
erasing 'userdata'... FAILED (remote: not allowed)
Tried to skip that and install from zip using TWRP, but that fails.
Code:
Setting permissions...
set_metadata_recursive: some changes failed
E: Error executing updater binary in zip '/sdcard.. (cuts off)
Error flashing zip '/sdcard/bigxie_m7_GPe_KRT16 (cuts off)
Updating partition details...
Failed
I appreciate your help, but I'm completely lost now...

yeah, apparently hboot on the One won't allow the erase userdata command. Other devices do allow that.
The partition details message is not a good one. I got that one time while flashing the gpe conversion ruu on an ATT one. The fast fix was to run the official ATT RUU and then run the conversion RUU. For your GPE there is no official RUU.

If you can get to TWRP, can you do adb push romname.zip /sdcard/ and install another custom rom?

No - I tried what ipfreely mentioned on the previous page to install the "vanilla" rom, didn't work.

[Q] Bricked M7-UL ...adb disconnect after 2 sec in recovery

Hi everyone.i'm desperate with my Htc One!i can't find a solution for fix him.the story begined last week when i've installed a pack via recoery..and i discovered that pack was not for my rom(was for google edition)and the phone won't booted up anymore.I'm not new in flashing roms,i've had 3 phones with android before(all rooted, custom roms,kernel,overclock..etc).the problem is like this!when i enter in recovery, phone is recognized by computer 2-3 secs and afer disconnect...so adb is not working.into fastboot the phone is working very well it dosen't disconnect but i don't now how to flash/push rom via fastboot.i've tried with this comand:fastboot update "rom.zip"..not working..i ve been tried even with Ruu..but i getting an error..i don't now. how to do.i m not an expert..maybe one of you can help me

You need to flash a ROM, the mod broke it. Did you not take a nandroid backup?
If you don't have a recovery, flash one, like TWRP or CWM.
If you have a recovery but can't get into it:
fastboot erase cache
If your recovery works, mount the sdcard and copy a ROM.
Saying RUU gives you an error without specifying what error is not helpful. To flash an RUU the CID, MID needs to match your phone and you need to be relocked (fastboot oem lock)
Post the output of:
fastboot getvar all
Without IMEI and Serial.

hello!
1.I have custom recovery(twrp 2.6...but adb isn't recognized)
2.I can't mount sdcard from twrp(cwm have that option but also is not working)
...if you can explain me a little how it s work with the RUU...im noob
and my phone is s-on
Sounds like you'd need to fix your drivers before RUU anyway.

have you tried these drivers: http://www.mediafire.com/download/j55vk6qbbr6250c/HTCDriver_4.8.0.002.exe
also update adb sdk.
adb may not work on a 4.3 ROM, but they should in recovery.
try flashing recovery again:
fastboot erase cache
fastboot flash recovery <name of recovery>.img
fastboot erase cache (yes maybe a bit redundant, but I like to do it twice)
fastboot reboot-bootloader
-> RECOVERY
then adb push or adb sideload, your choice.

i would assume the above would refer to a 2.24.401.x firmware, you may want to try and find a signed firmware.zip and flash that in fastboot RUU mode.

an older RUU will not work, you need to find a 2.24.401.x signed "firmware.zip", then use
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip (yes twice)
then if success: fastboot reboot-bootloader
but it has to be a signed firmware package.
Do you know if you were on 2.24.401.1 or 2.24.401.8 (or some other version?)?

I meant the actual firmware, the one that shows up in fastboot getvar all, or the bootloader screen. Though you being S-On, I don't see how you could change/loose firmware
Anyway, before we mess with that can you download and flash the following recovery (only because I'm using it and can confirm adb works just fine):
recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.3.2-m7--v2.img (7.2 MB)
https://mega.co.nz/#!6E8RiIrQ!GF5LyhmEdg8OQJxuQVVjwSxBljxhW7xsZAHLzjVACsc
in FASTBOOT USB
fastboot erase cache
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.3.2-m7--v2.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
-> RECOVERY
adb devices

WILL NOT WORK!! STOP!!
you are trying to flash a ROM using fastboot, these are NOT firmware packages!!! firmware packages are more like 40MB not 1GB which are the ROMs.
try the CWM recovery and post back.
@nkk71 Can he extract the signed recovery from that rom and flash it? He has tried flashing custom recovery i think.

hi @[email protected], I think you mean signed firmware (not recovery), I guess he could, but him being S-On, firmware flashing is not easy, and before trying to do that, I would personally explore other options before.
I've once "updated" to a CWM recovery where adb (amongst other things) didnt work, that's why I'm hoping he uses the one I suggested, because I know it works.
If all that fails, I do have a signed 2.24.401.1 signed firmware, I can upload, but firmware (with S-On), is really a one-way-ticket, no way to upgrade or downgrade with s-on.
so I'm trying to take a cautious approach, I do not want him to get to a stage that (s)he may feel I made things worse.

[Q] Boot Loop Newly upgraded GPE HTC One 4.4 SuperSU 1.8

I have a Google Play Edition (the real deal from Google, not flashed from something else) was on 4.3, was trying to upgrade to 4.4 using the OTA upgrade. I'm now in a boot loop. I'm *think* my issue is related to SuperSU v.1.8: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47868582
I was on Rooted 4.3 with SuperSU 1.8 running properly. Got the OTA message to upgrade. Flashed my Recovery Image back to 4.3 stock from this image: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2358781 in the 4.3 RUU Zip.
Ran the OTA update, everything seemed to install correctly.
I can still get into the Bootloader, Fastboot, and Recovery.
On regular boot I get to the select your language screen and then the phone reboots. Just guessing that something is happening between S-On and SuperSU that is causing problems. I've tried a couple older versions of SuperSU pushed with adb in CW and have the same problem.
If anyone have a link to a stock system.img I could flash for 4.3 or 4.4 that would solve all my problems. The system.img I thought I had for 4.3 out of the 4.3 RUU Zip is too large, as is the 4.4 RUU Zip.
Thanks in advance for the help - please be gentle if I'm violating an unknown procedure. I've searched an this for a few hours and haven't been able to find anything that might help me.
Thanks,
Matt
I've upgraded 3 phones so far (all converts, not real GPE) that had super SU installed and not had this issue.
if your seeing select language it means either 1. you wiped data before the OTA? or 2. something went wrong when converting your data.
It's doubtful but possible that anything is wrong with /system. The update script checks for specific versions of files and would have error ed rather than patched a mismatch. Lets start by wiping data and cache.
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot
since your S-On you can't use the RUU's and I'm pretty sure those system.img files are not signed; they are just dumps in img format so even if they weren't too big they still wouldn't work.

Thanks so much for the reply.
I did wiped AFTER installing the OTA as part of my troubleshooting. I did it through CWM recovery and regular recovery to see if it made any difference. I can do it again through fastboot if you think that will have any affect. Thanks again for the reply, appreciate it.
dunno about stock recovery but CWM doesn't actually do a proper wipe. it leaves /data/media intact. fastboot erase will rewrite the file-system.

I think I'm ready to just push a stock backup nandroid on to the device - any recommendations as to which I should use?
sorry. I didn't realize the one blocks that command. I use it all the time on other devices.
I actually made a stock 4.4 nandroid last night that I'll upload soon. I haven't seen any untainted GPE nandroids posted. with a clean nandroid and the firmware.zip from the ota you should be pretty much the same as running an RUU.

That would be awesome. If you don't mind sharing the link when you do I'd appreciate it.

Here you go:
https://mega.co.nz/#!TMlgWLDJ!ZfFlcxcRkebpb3cciULnlTf4GMJfy4grwOLi-Ied3Tg
extract the zip, then copy the folder to your recovery's backup location. I made it with CWM.
If your using CWM you can use the command adb push 2013-11-28.07.23.56 /data/media/clockworkmod/backup/GPE/

Here's a link to the untouched firmware.zip from the OTA:
https://mega.co.nz/#!DV0UEbBY!Vv6H4Ebf8WRCXrKwe5TGDUQqnvNk-9FiSjOvhjXAQvE
flash that zip from fastboot.
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip 4.4 firmware.zip
fastboot flash zip 4.4 firmware.zip
fastboot reboot
should be good to go then. You'll have stock /system and stock recovery so future OTA should work.

I'm hoping this will also work for my situation as I am stuck. I purchased a pre-owned GPE HTC One. The previous owner re-loaded JB stock but left clockwork mod on there. Last night I discovered the stock recovery image and loaded that successfully (wanting a stock experience now). This morning the phone successfully upgraded to the most recent jelly bean. Soon after that upgrade kitkat was ready for download.
As soon as the install finished the phone was stuck in a boot loop. I have tried numerous things to get it to stop but i have been unsuccessful. It appears that it is S-On, which I believe is also adding to my issues. Do you think the situation and nandroid you posted above will work in my situation (total stock recovery and no superSU)?
Thank you!
s-on is not the problem unless the previous owner lied and that's a converted phone and not a legit GPE.
I assume you've done a factory reset from recovery or bootloader?
Feel to try flashing CWM then restoring my nandroid and then flashing the firmware.

It did come in the GPE box, so I hope he didn't go that much out of the way to lie! lol It is the official GPE.
I did do a factory reset with no luck.
I have tried using the RUU files I found on another thread to flash through fastboot but I get a failed 99 error.
When I attempt to find device with adb, it does not list a device ( I assume b/c of debugging), but finds fine the phone fine on fastboot device.
Also, I thought about reflashing to CWM but when I try to bring up the bootloader after flashing the CWM recovery nothing will come up at as far as a recovery and will just begin to boot the phone.
Thank for any help you may offer and I apologize in advance for my noob questions. I've flashed recoveries and ROMs on the past on other devices but this one has me stumped.
there is no legit RUU for GPE! The conversion RUU only works with s-off because it is not properly signed!
flash this CWM: http://flyhalf205.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.4.5-m7ul.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.4.5-m7ul.img
after flashing fastboot erase cache
select reboot bootloader on your phone. then select recovery.
then continue with restoring my nandroid and then flashing the firmware in RUU mode.

The nandroid worked great - not sure what you wanted me to do with the firmware.zip, I *think* the link to the firmware.zip was the same as the nandroid link. Let me know if I'm missing something. Just need to install SuperSU and then I can restore everything from Titanium.
Again, thanks a ton!
That's what I get for listening to other NOOBs when it comes to this. I did as suggested below re: CWM

When I reboot the bootloader and select recovery it reboots and starts the loop over again. that's where I was stuck. I figured if I could load another ROM I'd at least be okay, but I can't get the darn recovery to work.
Ok - at least I know what my issue was before. I attempted to install SuperSU.zip 1.8, installs fine, but when I go into regular boot get boot looping again. Looks like I'll need to wait for an update to SuperSU.zip - if someone with authority can post in the SuperSU thread that might be really helpful.
Thanks!
good eye. I have fixed the link. here's the right one: https://mega.co.nz/#!DV0UEbBY!Vv6H4Ebf8WRCXrKwe5TGDUQqnvNk-9FiSjOvhjXAQvE
The purpose of the firmware.zip is to get all your firmware on the correct version as well as writing the stock recovery so that future OTA will work without issue [assuming of course you don't screw with /system by deleting apk you don't use or editing files].
you flash it using fastboot after rebooting to ruu mode. re-read my post.
I think you have a bad super su installer. I've installed super su 1.8 on three ones so far all running the 4.4 GPE and not had issue; however those were all converts and are s-off so that may have something to do with it. However it doesn't make a ton of sense.

I got the installer from:

I haven't tried to get s-off, on on the 1.54 version so that makes things a little harder, I've seen some posts about it.

[Q] HTC One (T-Mobile) soft bricked

Hey guys Im trying to fix my HTC One. I was on a call last night and the battery died and now it will only boot to fastboot. Problem is my Windows 8 box is not working with ADB. ADB does not see the device, but fastboot works. I try booting to twrp recovery and it just reboots to the HTC logo.
Can anyone help me out? I dont mind completely blasting it, but I dont want to waste a $600 phone.
Also good to note guys

I have tried this several times. I even tried to flash clockwork and a few different versions of twrp, and clear the cache and when I go to recovery it shows the Teamwin splash screen and then it reboots.
It says it transferred successfully, but even when I flashed clockwork I still see the Teamwin splash when entering recovery mode.

hm i dont know if i can help anymore... but some steps to do
fastboot erase cache
then write the recovery again
again fastboot erase cache
reboot your device and then try to boot into recovery
else
flash stock recovery and then try again to flash custom recovery...
Last choice is to restore with a RUU
P.S If you dont have any luck flashing openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.3-m7.img then try with this version:
openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.0-m7.img
EDIT: twrp25.img???? i dont think this recovery is meant for htc one..you are flashing wrong version of twrp.... flash with the recoveries i mentioned above
Its correct - actually TWRP 2.5.0.0 renamed

That's just the filename that I renamed TWRP 2.5.0.0 to for a simpler command.
I found the problem but dont know how to fix it. My device is in Fastboot which means no ADB. Also without being able to boot I can't change that (at least I dont think I can.).
Anyhow the damned thing re-engaged S-ON and its blocking access to the NAND (even if its saying it wrote to it, it can't be because of S-ON).
How do I RUU?
HTC One M7 Tmobile.
Thanks for the info sir. Much appreciated.

[SOLVED] Soft Bricked - Need Help!

Hi All,
I'm a noob when it comes to this stuff, but I've learned a lot over the last day. I soft bricked my HTC One Developer Edition while trying to do the most recent OTA update to 4.4.
What happens:
When booting normally, it goes initially to the normal white HTC screen, then to a "pink" screen (it's mostly pink, but it's really just messed up graphics), then goes to the HTC One loading screen (except BEATS is blue instead of red). Then it just freezes on that loading screen.
I can boot into the bootloader and recovery (currently TWRP, but was stock when doing the OTA update)
What I've tried:
I've used Fastboot to flash TWRP, so that part is good. Within TWRP, I've wiped the cache, system, Dalvik.
I've tried using Fastboot to flash the RUU Zip file (first one in the list here) in both Windows and OSX, while in "FASTBOOT USB" mode and in RUU mode. Each time, it starts sending, but around 43-44 secs it fails with "remote:not allowed: For reference, the top of the bootloader screen says TAMPERED, then UNLOCKED. I'm running HBOOT 1.55 and have S-ON (but unlocked bootloader). OS shows 3.22.1540.1
I can't get past the remote:not allowed issue, and I'm not such an expert to know what to try next. Can anyone please give me some tips on what to do next? I've tried searching, but I don't know what exactly to search for.
Thank you all!

ok, first you can't flash that ruu you linked above (first in the list) because its a decrypted ruu. Decrypted ruu.zip require s-off and you are s-on. Whit s-on you can only flash signed ruu.
and btw did you enter ruu mode before ''fastboot flash zip rom.zip'' ?

I saw that I already had the 3.22.1540.1 zip file on my computer, so I tried. It got a lot further, but still failed with a remote:not allowed (see attached pic).
My next tries will be to re-download the file and try again, and if that fails, to try the RUU.exe file on the Windows 7 laptop. Is this correct, or is there something else I should try?
I'm leaving work now, so I won't be able to answer for another hour or so but thank you for your help thus far!

My next tries will be to re-download the file and try again, and if that fails, to try the RUU.exe file on the Windows 7 laptop. Is this correct, or is there something else I should try?
I'm leaving work now, so I won't be able to answer for another hour or so but thank you for your help thus far!

ok, first you can't flash that ruu you linked above (first in the list) because its a decrypted ruu. Decrypted ruu.zip require s-off and you are s-on.

Sorry I didn't explain better - the file I meant was the one from HTCDevs - I downloaded it a while ago when I had a different issue. I just renamed it to rom1 or whatever. Is this then the correct file?
Also, the phone was not in RUU mode - it was in regular fastboot mode ("FASTBOOT USB"). I'll try again in RUU mode.

you can not flash ruu with fastboot. you MUST reboot phone in ruu mode using ''fastboot oem rebootRUU'' it will then reboot with a black screen and the htc logo. so:
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip name_of_ruu.zip
fastboot flash zip name_of_ruu.zip <------ yes again!
fastboot reboot
When in ruu mode you'll have a screen similar to this:
then proceed with ''fastboot flash zip...................''

Ok, I booted into RUU mode and flashed the file twice as per your instructions. Both times it failed. Screenshot is attached. (I even tried it a 3rd time but it still failed with the same message)
Also, I renamed the zip file to rom1.zip just to make typing it easier, but it is the file from HTCDevs, "3.22.1540.1 Developer Edition", Zip (not RUU).
Thank you!

Ok, I tried it on the Windows 7 laptop and got another error (155 - unknown error). Pic is attached. It was in RUU mode btw.
I'm currently downloading the older 1.29.xx version (Android 4.1) and will try again with that.
Just for my own knowledge - how many "parts" (partitions?) of the system are there? As in, there's the recovery partition, the "main" ROM, etc. Are those the only two? I only ask because I wonder if I messed up something in another part that makes the phone think it's not the Developer Edition? (the errors seem to point to using the wrong image, but I got it directly from HTCDevs and have now tried both the RUU and Zip versions.

I got it! I had to relock my bootloader for some reason. Then, the Windows RUU installed fine.
Thank you alray for your help!
Is being stuck at the booting screen (Htc one with beats audio (red color)) same as this scenario ? Is it soft bricked or boot looped or what's it called?
I'm S-off, rooted, stock rom, hboot is 1.56 w/ CWM. At some point the phone just rebooted on its own (I was even in a different place at that time!!!) and got stuck forever at that screen. Rebooting would just make it get stuck there again. bootloader, custom recovery all work.
what do?

Mine did get stuck there, but after a weird messed up pink screen (and the Beats text was blue, not red for some reason). If I was in your boat, I'd just flash a fresh rom and be done.

1- Please also post a screenshot of bootloader.
2- So you're on completely stock ROM?
3- are you able to enter recovery?
4- have you simply tried "fastboot erase cache" and tried booting?

Let's get this started:
1- done, see attached.
2- yes, up to latest OTA but i was rooted.
3- yes , CWM
4- done, still gets stuck at the same screen.
now: million $ question - is there a way to get out of this stupid problem without having to lose any data at all ? one gets quite sick at having to wipe and restore backups everytime there's a booting problem with the phone. i remember with the SGS2 i just had to reflash with odin the rom i was using and boom, back in order!

Well first I would recommend you update recovery to TWRP
2.6.3.3: http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/m7
or 2.6.3.4: http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/m7ul
since they are more compatible when flashing 4.4 ROMs (make sure to check MD5 on the files, that site doesn't play nice with download managers!)
Code:
[B]fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.3-m7.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader[/B]
-> enter recovery
Second, in TWRP, make a nandroid backup, you may need it later *** (please check below)
Third, put a ROM on the phone (in custom recovery):
Code:
C:\ADB3>[B]adb devices[/B]
List of devices attached
HT34xxxxxxxx recovery <- you need to be in recovery
[B]adb push <name of rom>.zip /sdcard/[/B] <- this will take about 5 mins without any progress
and install the ROM, don't select WIPE during installation, and you should have your million $ question solved... all apps, data, etc should be there, but if you get apps crashing it's because of the "dirty-flash"
As to which ROMs you can use for the above procedure, there's is a 100% stock version of 4.19.401.9 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2224752
I'm personally using ARHD 52.0 from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2183023 (stock but with improvements, and rooted)
I haven't checked if there's a 100% stock 4.20.707.6 ROM around, so you could do some googling and see.
Hope that helps
*** once you've done the backup, you can try wiping "data, cache, dalvik", and then restore the nandroid... sometimes that works
if not keep the nandroid, as it has all the information, and you can use Nandroid Manager (in play store) to extract individual information, if need be.
Good Luck

HTC One M7 Stuck in a Boot Loop

Alright, I recently purchased a phone that was stuck at the screen with the download icon in the arrow circle (http://forum.xda-developers.com/album.php?albumid=11886). When it is like this is can not be put into hboot. I then somehow got the phone into a boot loop. I did wipe the cache and that did not fix the problem. I did a factory reset via hboot, and it sent me back to the screen I mentioned before (http://forum.xda-developers.com/album.php?albumid=11886). I've now gotten the phone back into boot looping so I can access hboot. Recovery does work and you can access all the options. This phone is basically a stock HTC One M7. Has not been rooted, is locked, and it S-ON. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you!

I bought it for a friend. He wanted something other than his locked up att samsung s4 active. He doesn't have much money and he figured he could fix this one and if he could't, he would just sell it again. I am personally used to iPhones (typing this on a jailbroken 4s right now) so this is all pretty new to me. We started troublesing it yesterday and he seemed to get stumped. He hates forums so I went ahead and signed up and made this post for him. Currently I have no access to a computer right now (at least one where I can install sdk and so on), but will have access later today. Will post when I have it.

Latest HTC driver here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/8pawcxm9walwras/HTC_Driver_4.14.0.001.exe
You can install minimal adb and fastboot instead of the complete sdk, will be easier to use for you: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790
Once you have both installed, connect the phone to your computer, make sure its booted in bootloader mode --> fastboot mode and showing "fastboot usb" in red.
On your computer: Start menu --> Programs --> Minimal adb and fasboot --> minimal adb and fastboot
in the command prompt, type:
Code:
fastboot getvar all
copy and paste the output here (except the imei and s/n)
see you later

Ok well there is no RUU you can use with s-on so while the bootloader is locked all you can do is try to flash the current firmware. If the phone doesn't boot after that you will need to unlock the bootloader.
Download the firmware here https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23501681358543602 put the zip in your fastboot folder on your pc and rename it "firmware.zip" Now with fastboot usb connected in the bootloader flash the firmware with the following fastboot commands
Code:
fastboot erase cache
fastboot oem rebootRUU
case sensitive
Your phone will reboot to a black screen with silver HTC logo. This is ruu mode we can now flash the firmware.
Code:
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
The first flash is just a pre-update. The screen will go off and then return to ruu mode. Flash the zip again immediately.
Code:
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
The second flash will flash the firmware, the progress bar on the screen will not reach 100% this is normal as long as the command line has finished it's output it's done.
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Now try to reboot the phone. If it doesn't boot you should now at least be able to do a factory reset. But you will need to unlock the bootloader at www.htcdev.com register an account and follow the instructions in the Unlock My Bootloader section. :good:

Now the bootloader is unlocked you will need to flash a custom recovery and install a new Rom.
Download this http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/m7/openrecovery-twrp-2.8.5.0-m7.img *<<<<< Put this in your fastboot folder and rename it recovery.img
Download this https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23501681358545274
Boot the device to the bootloader and connect fastboot usb. Flash the recovery with fastboot
Code:
fastboot erase cache
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
When back in the bootloader select Recovery from the menu to load TWRP recovery. Before we do anything else a little spring cleaning. Select "Wipe" from the TWRP menu the "Format Data" You will be prompted to type yes to continue. When its done Select "Reboot" then "Reboot Recovery" You will see a message "No OS Installed" Reboot anyway and say No when asked to install supersu.
Now back in TWRP recovery you should be able to see the Internal Storage on your PC. Copy the rom file to the Internal Storage then from the TWRP menu select install and choose the rom .zip :good:
During the install with Aroma choose these options
Stock Radio = Yes
Stock Recovery = Yes
Root = No
When the install is completed reboot the device and hopefully it should boot up normally without any problems :good: :fingers-crossed:
P.S The first boot after a new flash can take an extended amount of time. Don't be supprised if it's stuck on the HTC logo screen for 15 minutes+ Just be patient

For s-off he will have to use Sunshine App it's the only working method for hboot 1.57. It does cost $25 but It's very easy. Just install and run the app :good:
Rooting can be done a number of ways the 2 easiest are to allow TWRP to install SupeSu when leaving recovery. Or you can install root with the Guru reset rom by selecting root during the installer. Also if he want's to keep the TWRP recovery don't take the stock recovery during the rom install.

Unable to mount /cache and /system happens during format or after? Did you reboot recovery after the format?
When you exit recovery TWRP will detect wheather or not the device is rooted. If it's not rooted TWRP will ask if you want to install supersu to root the phone. Say yes and TWRP will install root.
Although you could just install root when you install the rom. Just install with these options instead
Stock = Recovery No
Stock = Radio Yes
Root = Yes

When you format data it is like repartitioning the phone. All the partitions are gone until you reboot. That's the reason they won't mount
