I experience something interesting after updating to kitkat.
Yesterday morning, I found my Nexus 7 with the update notification. Battery was at 55%, so I have installed the update. I left the Nexus 7 at 50% (updated to kitkat). When I returned home in the evening, the battery was at 47%.
Previously, My nexus 7 could loose from 10-25% in 12 hours of standby.
I just charged up the tablet, to see if the second charge is similar (or if it was a battery calibration glitch).
Battery life while using was similar as before.
Don't tell me that you created a new thread just to tell us how unpredictable battery can be after OTA ?
I'm getting poor battery life as well trying to figure out whats causing it

I noticed some post a few days ago mentioning battery problems so I wanted to put this out there in case it helps you out.
Earlier this week I started experiencing horrible battery drain. I'd be down to 20% by lunch each day. Eventually I realized Instagram was the culprit -- Specifically I was on 5.0.1 and it seemed to be keeping the CPU abnormally busy. I had to manually kill the app to stop the drain.
The 5.0.2 Instagram update from Thursday seems to have fixed the issue. Hopefully anyone effected has updated by now but just in case I figured I'd post about it.
Cheers!

I've not had any issues with 5.0.1 at all since I've had it. Running on cataclysm with elemental kernel.

I just got my note3 on Friday and right out of the box the battery seemed way better than my s3. But after 2 days of using it stock and battery life seemed a little low at 3 1/2 hours screen time, I decided to root it and debloat all at&t and Samsung junk and battery doesn't seem to be much better even with greenify and power save on. Does anyone have suggestions to make the battery life closer to 6 hours screen time like I've been reading everywhere.?

My battery got to about 6 hours screen on time after I installed dynamic rom. The best I had was just over 6 hours screen on with a total up time of 1 and a half days.
Edit: currently I'm at 22% after 15.5 hours with 5 hours and 45 minutes screen on time.
I don't want to get to far away from stock. I just want to have "normal" battery life. I checked a few reviews out and almost all of them said they had over 6 hours screen time.

I would say it may be doable stock but it seems pretty optimistic to me. I guess you could turn brightness all the way down and turn on battery saver and other things but that makes the phone a bit harder to use and less enjoyable imo
Yea that's true I'll just wait for my zerolemon to get here :good:

On my first charge so we will see. Please post your battery life stats and pics.
Six and a half hours and it's almost at 50%. I had an iPhone before this phone, and if I used it half as much as I have been using my phone today, it would probably be at around 10-20%. I love the battery life. Screen has been on half brightness, WiFi/Bluetooth off, no battery saving mode on.

Here is what I have so far. Going to let it get to the power save mode before I charge again (IF that actually happens before I sleep), so I will post again then. This is mostly on LTE, btw, as I've been away from home most of the day.

That's good to hear. I've been using a One M8 practically in place of my 5s all day today and with battery saver on (only decreasing CPU speeds) but Wi-Fi off the entire time (just 4G LTE), I'm only down to 48% after being unplugged for 13.5 hours. Looking forward to what my GS5 will deliver.
Coming from the iPhone 5 (had the 5S, but got damaged so I switched back to the 5 during the waiting period) the battery on the GS5 is incredible. I'm just now doing a full charge cycle, so I'll report back later with some battery results, but I can already tell I will be very happy with this.
I just plugged my phone in so I wasn't able to take a screen cap. I was at 32% battery left with 16 hours on battery with about 4 hours and 2 minutes of screen on use. Most of the day was on LTE, but I did not turn off the wifi radio. All background data options were left on along with location services.
not great..barely got through the day with fairly heavy use. 4 hours screen on time.
Not doing so good. It is the first full charge so I will judge it after it has a day or two to settle in.

Coming from iphone 4s, battery life is FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!:good::good::good::good:
Pretty disappointed. Worst phone on battery that I've had for 2 years. Looks like there is something up with the kernal android os

Putting this all in one thread folks...go here...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2714014
So here's what I noticed. With kit Kat stock, or stock based rooms, the battery life seems really good while not using phone. It goes in to really deep sleep and sips on juice.
Whole using it, for example Clash of Clans, it literally sucks like there no tomorrow.
I see small difference between email or xda or other not graphic intensive apps.
Anyone else having noticible worse battery life vs 12a?
My friend who has the same phone said the same. Before update he never needed to charge during the day. Now he had to connect it to car charger mid day.

I regularly have scenarios like this.
- phone is at 27% battery
- few minutes later it beeps and shows 14%
- 30 seconds later - 5%
- few more seconds and it shuts down.
I don't run anything special and through the day it lowers steady (although 100 to 27 in 12 hours is not that great).
I run official 5.0.1 rom and never unlocked bootloader.
So is it a problem with a phone, the battery or just OS that sucks?
Anyone else having the issue?

Most likely it's the battery. Have you looked to see what is using the battery in settings?

Nothing unusual running. I think Android OS was main battery user, may be with hour and half of screen time.
In this specific instance I was running Toyota app while driving.
But similar things happened before without those factors. And mostly it worked ok in the car as well.

How many hours total on battery do you think?
Sent from my SM-N910T using Tapatalk
I took it off charger at 7am and drops started around 6pm. It was going down evenly during this time.

Sorry I forgot that was in your OP. Did you look at the battery to see if it was hot or bulging even slightly? Personally for the $15 it takes to get a new battery, I would. Worst case scenario is you end up with a spare. I don't know how old your device (and this your battery) is, but it's not uncommon after 9+ months for them to start dying.
Sent from my SM-N910T using Tapatalk
Yes, it probably makes sense to get new battery. I got the phone last November or December but problem started early summer. Seems pretty short time for battery to go bad.
Thank you

It's not unheard of by any stretch. Heat will kill them fast as well. Does the phone ever get hot?
Sent from my SM-N910T using Tapatalk
I haven't noticed it being hotter than other phones I used. Yet I carry it in external pouch so would not always feel it.
It definitely wasn't hot when battery was dropping.
More over, last time I turned it off for 3 hours at 14% and when turned it on, drop just continued and it was 5% in 30 seconds.

I got not only a new battery but a new phone and have been experiencing a similar problem. Seriously might just jump ship to the N5. Any suggestions on what else to try? I really don't want to shell out $20 for yet another battery if it's not guaranteed to fix anything. I'm running PopRocks v14 with the stock kernel. Any suggestions?
I had the exact same issue. It was from letting the battery die too often. A new battery fixed the issue 100%
Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app
That's true. Running it down to 1% all the time definitely shortens the life. I'll try to find the article I read that interviewed battery scientists.
