I have my vCard file from HTC HD2 with Android 4.0.4 and I want to import the contacts to my Xperia Z1 and when I click the button Import I got the message: Memory Full. Could not import contacts!
I got more than 1gb free on my phone.

Not sure why you are doing this, why don't you sync you contacts from the HTC to your google account, then they will automatically sync to your Sony phone if you are using the same google account

I never did that and now I can't because my HTC is broken, but I did a backup of my contacts so I don't understand why I can't backup the contacts to my Z1. This is a problem on my phone anyway, why?

I have never been able to import a vcard sucessfully, have you tried searching the net, there are some youtube vids and some discussions on xda?
The easiest way is probably going to be to import the contacts to your computer, then use PC companion to sync them to the phone. Can I suggest in future that you store the contacts in the google account for your phone, that way whatever android phone you get in the future the contacts will be synced automatically after you attach the account.

Of course, one of them is this one: http://www.sonymobile.com/us/suppor...ntacts/backup-import-and-send-contacts-ps101/
Very easy, I click on Phone, Contacts, Menu at the right bottom, I click on Import Contact, I got: Memory Full.
On Sony Web site they saying to select Back up Contacts from vCard, where it is on Z1?

I can't to my computer because my HTC don't working. Also I was never worry to store my contacts in google account because we have the option to backup contacts in Android, the problem is that option is not working, why?
Now I am forced to store the contacts in other ways but how I will back up more than 200 numbers from my vCard Today?
Someone know how extract the contacts from vCard? That will be enough.

I really don't know why we are discussin this, surely you all back your contacts up to your gmail account....

Also I logged into my gmail account month ago and nothing happened so I was completely convinced.
Btw, Import Contact don't working but problem solved.
Thread Closed.

Yep, you and me both, was my first comment. But since it seemed that the contacts were not attached to the google account offered other options

Never solved the problem. Like never solved the problem installing (massage:no sufficient memory on phone) updates even if I have space on my internal memory.
I always used vCard because I never liked to store my contacts on a server, kind of paranoia privacy!
..but I give up so now I do not do anything than just log into my google account (play store) and they show up.
I think you have to do the same, log into your account and import contacts.

I'm sorry for digging out so old thread, but I have the same problem on my good, old Xperia Z. I have free space on internal memory, I recieved the e-mail with some vCard attached and I can save or even open it. All I get is this message "memory full could not import contacts".
Do anybody knows how to solve this problem?
Thank you.

import contacts w/o google account

Hey there,
this maybe a nooby question... but i read a lot, tried a lot and did not find an answer to the following:
I am using CyanogenMod-4.2.15.1 with Wysie Contacts V2.7 on my G1 and i'm looking for a way to import my contacts to the phone offline.
So to say, a simple import without using google account.
I never used google to take care of my private data and that's why i don't want to put everything up on their servers to simply import my personal addresses.
I'd simply like to have all phone numbers, e-mail addresses and other contacts fields right in place, that's it.
I followed several how-to's but nothing worked out like it should.
The possibility of Wysie Contacts to import my SIM contacts is no proper way, because any additional information is gone.
Also some of the apps on the market (e.g. Andook Lite, vCardIO) did not work out properly using Wysie Contacts.
Is there any way to create a database or anything on my host.
Maybe also an editor or anything.....
It is really annoying
Aynone tried this using CyanogenMod-4.2.15.1:

Any help or hint would be appreciated!

I don't think there's a way. Also, G1 will sync all contacts to Google anyway, so might as well go that route.
Hey borodin1,
thanks for the reply!

G1 will only sync all contacts if you allow the phone to do so...
I know it sounds little crazy, but it should be possible to use a Google OS without using Google services.
Apart form that, this project looks promising.

Come on guys.... there must be a way.
All i need is a simple import function...

Just so you know... if you manage to accomplish this and then later (for whatever reason) attempt to sync with Google it may cause problem and even duplicate entries. Unfortunately I am not aware of any such resolution.
Perhaps import everything to your gmail, let it sync, remove the Contacts sync and then remove them from you gmail via pc. this way you should have everything in your contacts and the google.com server should be clear of your entries. This is all theoretical though. Good luck!
Hey Binary100100,

Though i really thought there'd be another way... looks like this is the only way to go for now.
BTW, anyone knows something about the format of the contacts database?

[Q] Major contact duplicates problem!

Hi there, I've had this problem since day 1 I own the Galaxy S. I've tried every method, clear off everything and re import from Sim card, tried to clear duplicates using Contact Analyzer 2, but still, duplicates randomly appear again and again.
My sim card seems to duplicate itself everytime I flash a new rom or SYNC contacts from facebook/twitter. So, I untick display sim card. Seems to clear off. Then, I realise that in each of my phonebook contacts there are several similar contacts merging into one! This is crazy! I am getting tired of this.
I have 1000+ contacts and it's crazy to delete duplicates one by one. That would be 3000+ contacts to delete or so.
Your help is appreciated! Thanks!
i think maybe is is the Google contact...this is happened in my SGS too and it is named as joined contacts
i have a similar issue
i had to manually Merge or link duplicated contacts from different profiles together
and I happen to have 17 accounts in my phone
so i had to uncheck the box to NOT SYNC the other accounts that i don't use often
else it turns into a major bloody mess
Damnit guys, I lost all my contacts. Wtf, SGS contacts are not easy to manage. I didn't store contacts in Google. I should have, now I can't retrieve my contacts back!

How do i do this?

[Q] Lost all contacts!

When my USIM contacts were not recognised by Whatsapp on my O2x, I converted them all to MS Exchange contacts. Today I froze the stock email app to replace it with a different one. After I did this, all my contacts vanished! I lost all phone numbers stored on my phone. Unfreezing the mail app has not brought them back. What can I do? This is a disaster!
Sorry if this is the wrong forum.
don't have an answer for you but I always sync my contacts with my gmail just in case something like that happens

Unfortunately I didn't sync my contacts with anything..
I don't understand, surely freezing an app shouldn't delete any data? I'm hoping the contacts are still there some how and can be recovered.. but how?
EDIT:
Nevermind, found a solution. I remembered that, when I first put my SIM card into the O2x, a lot of contacts were there even though I deleted them in the past on my previous phone. So I figured the reverse might be true.. and yes, when I put my SIM card in my old phone, I was able to see my contacts again. Apparently when USIM contacts are deleted they are not actually removed from the phone, although for some reason the phone that deleted them does refuse to read them. Now I just have to manually enter each contact on my O2x and make a back-up.

Empty Duplicated Contacts Read Only?

Ok I've done some digging and can't seem to find anything with my exact problem.
Yes I have looked up duplicated read only contacts BUT everyone seems to have this issue with contacts synced from another app. Mine is no.
Got this baby this past Sunday (found out that I can upgrade 7 days early so of course I did it. Love the phone and think I will be okay without root. Got Helium backup to backup my data. Only thing left is for them to add a Restart in the power menu then I'll be fine with no Root. OH and they need to get Lolipop out ASAP)
But ever since then I've been having this issue. I've been having new contacts made, same name as a contact I have, but with not info (most of the time. Sometimes it has their number in it). Now here is where it gets weird.
They are Google contacts that it says are saved under my Gmail. I go to Gmail, No duplicated contacts there, I try to delete, says they are read only and can only hide, AND it seems like the contacts that are getting duplicated are contacts that I seem to call most often. I have all other apps and their contact sync turned off so I know it's not an issue with them, and since they are saved under Gmail and when I turn off the local Phone contacts they are still there so I know they are not local saved/SIM contacts.
If anyone has any suggestions let me know. I felt like I had this issue loooooong ago with another phone but pretty sure it was back when Facebook synced its contacts and I had to link them.
I'm a savvy guy and know my way around Android.
Thanks
Ok well i ended up getting it myself.
For people with this issue:
Turn off google contact sync. Then go to apps in settings and then look for the contact storage app. Force stoo the act and clean all data. Check contacts to make sure its empty. Then enable google contacts sync.
Sent from my XT1254 using XDA Free mobile app
Contacts in Android are stored in a database, and as they come from multiple sources (synced from Google, Facebook, Whatsapp, LinkedIn and copied from SIM or stored as "local phone" contacts...) it's easy to have multiple instances of same contact with different info or even duplicates. Contacts app let you "join" multiple contacts from different sources so they will appear joined in your contacts list, but they will still be stored inidividually in the database.
Anyway, there are multiple apps that let you manage your contacts at a deeper database level. With MiniContacts https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brapeba.minicontacts you can see all raw contacts one by one showing its original account source (group). And you can delete all contacts from a source (i.e. those coming from LinkedIn, or Facebook) or choosing manually those you don't want. Notice that if you don't disable the syncronization with the source those deleted contacts will reappear again. So, first disable syncronization! If you want to delete the contacts permanently from everywhere instead of just from your Android database, go to the source (LinkedIn, Facebook...) and delete them there.
Hope it helps...

I could kiss you right now. I have been scouring the internet and downloading apps for hours trying to figure out how to fix "read only" and "can't be deleted" contacts on my second replacement dud Turbo 2. Duplicates galore, and they wouldn't go away. Thank you, thank you, thank you! No more Verizon Cloud - that really messed it up both times. Merry Christmas! :good:

The app Simpler Contacts can merge duplicate apps. I've used it on friends' phones to do that.
Of course, Simpler Contacts also would like you to keep using their app and even their backup service, and they have a Dialer app too. But you don't need all that. I just use Simpler Contacts once in a while to check for duplicate contacts.
But this solution above is good too.
I also used Simpler Contacts to export all contacts from a "local" account. Helped to friends do this when they switched from iPhone to Android and the carrier store exported all their iPhone apps to "local" phone account -- which is STUPID. All the contacts need to synced with Google.
