Keep my Prime Keyboard dock? - Asus Transformer TF701

Im assuming the answer will be a big NO but here goes any way. If I get a new Tf701, can it be used with the keyboard dock from my TF201 Transformer Prime?

Nope. You have to use the crappy new 701 dock.

Could you elaborate on what is "crappy" about it? The keyboard dock is something I've always liked about my Transformer Prime so if the 701 is not as good somehow, that could be a problem for me if I decided to get the 701. I kind of expected I'd have to get a model specific one though.

See thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2509983 among others. The docking connection between the tablet and dock is just plainly badly designed. Unfortunately, it seems that it cannot be fixed by simply redesigning the dock - the connection on the tablet would need to be redesigned too. Personally I'm waiting to see what Asus do about this before buying a TF701 or its dock.

Many people like myself don't have dock issues. It works just fine.

Mine also works flawlessly.

Do those of you who have working docks have or not have the flex in the tablet/keyboard hinge?

For Sbdags and others that have no connection issue: can you post your serial numbers and date on the box?

Yeah, this is the big question. So far I haven't seen any evidence of the existence of good, non-flexing tablet/dock connections. I would love to, though. Then I might consider exchanging rather than returning.

Yup, no issues with the dock or any flexing. Really good and I'd say more usable than the TF700 as mine was a little flexible and moved on contact.
This one is much better but would still have preferred it to be aluminium.

Well, probably depends how on the benchmark, mine is slightly flexing, but probably wouldn't worry about without this thread no connectivity issues at all. I'll look at the box regarding production date etc.

Take a look at this video in which you can still see the extreme flex of the tablet/dock connection. It happens right around 12:45. Look closely and you can see the docked tablet itself tilt up and down several degrees without the hinge moving at all. This is the bad flex we've been experiencing. Is your dock like this, or is there very little play when you tilt the tablet before the hinge itself starts to move?

From what I see in the video, I think mine has less flex compared to the one in the video, although is also there for sure. But is I said, mine did not lose the connection so far. But I don't know whether this relates to the flex or whether it's a connector only type topic.

I loosened the 2 phillips screws where the connector is screwed into the dock.
Now it is less sensible because the connector will partially flex with the tablet.
But it is no solution.
Only one that will work is to elminate the flex completely by redesign of the dock. Look at a TF700 then you know how they should have done it.

Those of you that are saying you have no problem, are you saying that your docks don't have the flex problem as shown in these two videos?

Ah btw, I just sold my tf101 n m getting a n7!!!
Seems like a good deal, but I get extremely nervous at the idea of the N7 being connected via a relatively fragile microusb slot and standing up in portrait mode like that. Probably because the cats like to knock over everything in sight...

Evidently MHL just isn't supported (or some other term), I tried it on mine and no luck. Google supposedly used a "custom" N7 for I/O to display the N7 on the big screen.

Nexus 10 Official Dock?

Just watched the Android Christmas Card video....there is a Nxxus 10 dock pictured right at the 1:00 mark...hoping this is real. Looks like it is.
It's certainly encouraging. With the news of the POGO pin connector, the pictures of the Nexus 7 dock and now this video from the Android Team, I'm very hopeful. I know I will buy the dock as soon as it is released.
It would be a Christmas miracle!
Will it charge faster than the micro usb?
Otherwise why waste the money.

Some of us wants to be able to use a dock as a dock... charging faster will be a plus for me but i'd like to use an official POGO pin dock that I can place on my counter to charge as I browse. Or even slow the battery drain when I play music/movie.
TLDR: Having a dock is freaking awesome.

A dock offers more then just charging... It also serves.. as a stand.
Also audio out for your stereo/speakers.

Good eye! I was hoping we'd see a dock with pricing and delivery at CES next month. Can't wait to get one so I can hack it...
Guess it does mean, a dock is coming, couldn't care less about it though I would prefer if they would release an official keyboard dock like the one ASUS transformer has.
I wouldn't be waiting for this to come out as Nexus device accessories don't have the best track record. *Waiting on Nexus 4 orb charger*
while u wait get the energizer qi on amazon, i found one for 50 bux totally worth it
The nexus 7 dock looks nice but I thought the nexus 10 dock looked too small and the tablet didn't seem very secure /stable /safe in it. I wish they made it longer.

Nocoast, shame you can't use it on the n10. I'm sad no company has made a generic qi home dock for phones and tablets. I'm even more sad no company has made a universal car qi dock.
I use touchstones in the car and house for my gnex and the wife's s3. Of prefer having something more future proof for phones like the n4 that have it built in. Hardware jacks aren't that fun. The touchstone are nice and small though, but the phone angles will in it are shallow. Pivot mount mechanism works in the car though.
I gotta say I don't think that's a dock at all, it doesn't make sense to have a 4 inch dock for 10 inch tablet, I think that was just a generic plastic stand
Hmm, have you ever seen an official iPad dock? there is a reason behind that, the tablet is not small, big dock will look bulky and no aesthetic with it, maybe Apple know something we don't , but then again there are magnets, we also don't know what the shape of it, maybe it holds still, and actually similar to iPad dock...just my thoughts :cyclops:

The N10 is my first Nexus product & I expected more from Google in the way of accessories. I work for B&N & we have the widest & most varied selection of accessories that I have ever seen for any device under one roof. Perhaps I'm just spoiled, but I don't think my expectations are too high. Google has the capability to provide accessories & I don't understand why they haven't.

car lighter note 2 mount/holder anyone ?

you should be careful with these and make sure that your dc socket can handle the stress of carrying the phone.

No keyboard after wake up

Hello everybody.
I have a problem with my TF701T:
Sometimes the keyboard does not work when I wake up my tablet.
I have to disconnect-reconnect the dock so that the keyboard works again.
I think that the problem is already present on the TF201 (my wife has one).
I wanted to know if somebody have this problem, and possibly found a solution (other than wait (how long?) Asus to address this problem).
Friendly.

No it's just you. If you had the same problem on your TF201 I would suggest checking the apps you have installed. One of them might be causing it?
I don't think it is due to an app because :
- My wife and I don't have installed the same apps
- I had the problem just after unboxing my tablet

As is see its the standard keyboard for Asus TF701T. The only thing that u have to check is the Keyboard FW when it arrive, cause FW under 2013.11 have the disconnect issue, so the keyboard disconnects and u have to unplug/ plug it to solve the problem.
SO when its under 2013.11 u have to update it first. But i dont know if we could seperate update the keyboard, does anyone tried it before?
greetz
monkey
P.S.: I bought the Pad with Keyboard. I love it, feels good at writing, the buttons are big enough and the touchpad also do his work great. After Updateing in the first time with the TF701 i had no problems again with the dock. The USB3 port works good, high transfer rate and no problems with watching direct from the usb.
I do a lot with the pad and dock, much homework over citrix and it works great with keyboard.
The only little thing i miss, is the light at the keyboard, but i think im only spoiled by my lenovo T540p ^^
EDIT: correction: FW under 2013.11 have the issue, with 2013.11 and higher sould it work without problems.
The biggest benefit to getting a Transformer is getting the keyboard. That's its claim to fame and its reason for being. The keyboard gives you that extra battery time and connectivity with USB that is the main, if not the only, reason that I got the Transformer in the first place and why I upgraded to the new model. If you do a lot of typing for work, or need the extra battery life then get one. With the keyboard connected you essentially have a type of netbook and you have built in protection for your screen so you don't need a case. Try to get one with a build date in 2014 though.

It depends on how your behavior towards functions of the docking (i.e keyboard, function keys, mouse pad, USB 3.0, SD card reader, external battery). For me, I love it so much. I fully utilize all functions about the docking. i.e pluged a USB hub with a mouse and a 16GB USB memory stick to save my doc. it sometimes share a bit battery to my phone in very urgent case.
however, u may stuck if there is firmware version difference or Dalvik cache problem.
so far, ASUS's hardware quality is wonderful but the supporting matters are terrible.
Don't worry! you may find the solutions in this forum.

Hi to you,
I read quite some threads about this TF701 dock connection and I have quite some experience with it.
Situation seems to be as follows:
The newer 2014 dock models appear to have a better grip and a slight more flexible electrical connector to maintain connection during mechanical movements. But over time the problem still exists depending on the use. It is a mechanical hinge design imperfection that did not change between 2013 and 2014 models. I expect Asus will not give the existing dock productline a redesign since the tablet has to be changed as well. With product life sycles of about 2 years it just does not make sense for a manufacturor to do that.
Therefor this TF701 instability will stay part of the 'specifications'. Besides that, the TF701 is a blast of a tablet, with stunning speed and resolution. Especially with the recent KitKat 4.4.2 update. Almost one year on the market, it still can measure with more recent and more expensive competitors. So this makes the TF701 still high performance for money.
It is difficult to track the dock production dates. It is only on the box they are packed in. So hard to discover the production year from the product code itself. Anyway, If your tablet-dock combination still have a mechanical or electrical issue over time, a modification kit is available as a solution for fixing both issues in 2 minutes. It took me quite some time to find out the exact match in material, shape, thickness and placement to overcome this weak design. The result on video shows a firm and stable grip between tablet and dock, including a reliable electrical connection. And it will last.
