8MP shots from 2/3 sensor are very good, 20MP great for manual shooting so you have all the control of the shot.

Unfortunately you can't use the Scene selection in 20.7mp only in 8mp manual. Currently there is no fix or workaround for that.

Thoughts on Snap camera? My experience with it so far

Surprised no one is talking about Snap camera here. Its a new camera app in CyanogenMod 13 nightlies that is based on the Snapdragon camera app from Qualcomm.
Compared to Google Camera, Snap camera is significantly faster. It does not support RAW capture or any other advanced camera option like shutter speed, ISO levels etc, but it is well worth using just for the speed increase.
I also think that my N5 focuses faster with Snap camera compared to other camera apps that I have tried.
Made a video of the UI in action over here if you guys are interested: https://youtu.be/O3NpF9ZcT1M
On other phones compatible phones like LG G4 etc., the app does support HDR mode and other advanced features like ISO levels, exposure levels etc.
Ive used this app for about a year. The clean UI and the amount of features make it easily one of my favorites. (fyi ive used it on a g3, n6, n6p, opo, edge, edge+, BlackBerry Priv and a moto x 2013 & 2014 and its always worked for me with HDR working best on the Nexus devices)

This link points to Snap camera HDR, which is in my knowledge different from Snapdragon camera. As fa as I know there is no way to install Snapdragon camera on N5 with stock marshmallow. So CM13 and variants after the 1.09 build are the only way to go . However the camera does not support HDR mode yet.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

Asus PixelMaster Camera & Nokia Camera Mods on MI A2

Hi!
Anyone is using any of this mods? (all work without Root)
ASUS PixelMaster Camera From Asus ROG
https://www.xda-developers.com/asus-pixelmaster-camera-port-asus-rog-phone/
and
Nokia Camera Port
https://www.xda-developers.com/nokia-camera-port-3d-personas-animojis/
Or even this mod - Xperia Z1 MotionShot
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2573312
If so, what are the best settings?
I tried Nokia and Asus cam apps today, they don't have any special settings, just check everything to most high option that you can select in menu and that is it.
Nokia makes decent pictures for the picture size, and Asus makes also good pictures but a little darker.
They are both better then stock cam app :good:
I'm not certain of this, but the Asus cam might take good low light pics. Not in a position to test this but pure speculating.
tried the asus one in non rooted but the highest MP setting is 3MP. is it normal? Thanks

Is it possible to use the 20 mp sensor with Google Camera?

Yes, i have camera2api enabled and the quality of the 12 mp sensor is stunning. But... i want to take adventages from the second sensor. I've tried some fu24 mods but all crashes right away you start the app.
Thanks in advance.
20mp is for the depth sensor and Mi A2 doesn't click pictures of 20mp. (i think so).

I'm not sure about this. In the Mi A2 page says that it uses the 12mp sensor to take daytime photos, and the 20mp to take low light photos. I think that the stock camera app can do this change automatically. But I'm not sure if GCAM app can do this too.
Probably GCAM is using the 12mp to every situation, and doing all the work into software, even to manage the portrait (focus) effect, ignoring the 20mp sensor.
It is possible but you will have only 5Mpx, because it's quadra bayer something technology
On latest pixel experience caf I can switch to low night lens (latest arnova gcam). On stock it doesn't work

Wow, do you use a magisk module or something? or only pixel experience?
It takes 20 mp photos or 5 mp like someone suggested?
Could you share samples?
Sorry, a lot of questions, i know, but i'm trying to see if it's worthy install pixel experience for the second lens, or with camera2api enabled on stock i'm fine.

I am using
MGC_6.1.021_Arnova_xcam_mi9_v8.apk
on
RR7. 1
In options you can enable second camera.
Pictures are 5mpx in size. There is some pink tint, but not much. Quality is same as using 12mpx camera. I will post samples later.

Only magisk module I have is pixel3 gcam enabler for mi a2(I think I found this on xda). GCam_6.1.021_Advanced_V1.4.032219.1950.apk
Quality is not too low it is almost same with 12mp. Color correction is more accurate. It works for only photo and portrait (video, night sight tested others untested)
Edit: for samples I don't have stable interneth connection for now
Edit2: I found a way to use low light lens with night sight. After switching to low light lens just close your camera with your hand. on bottom try night sight will appear if you click that you can use it with night sight

Samsung Front Camera only left with 5 MP after Wide Selfie Update

It seems to me that the Wide Selfie Mode is a Scam. I realized this already a few Updates ago but was able to still downgrade, now with CSF9 i am stuck
In normal Selfie Mode i can only take Pictures with 5 MP, also other Camera Apps only recognize 5 MP. Only in the Samsung Camera and in Wide Selfie Mode i can take Pictures with 8 MP.
Could someone confirm this to me?
I had a short chat with Samsung Support and they told me it should not be that way and it would be fixed in the next Update but no idea how much i can trust in that
No one is on the same build that could tell me if its the same for them?
yes, same here

Not quite sure what you mean, you're issue is that your selfies are 5MP using the stock camera app?

Yes... if u open up the selfie camera and leave it in normal mode and look into the settings u can only apply up to 5.2 MP, only in Wide Selfie Mode u will see 8 MP as an Option, also in other Camera Apps u can only choose up to 5.2 MP
same here
ME TOO!!
Yes true, first I thought its an issue with mine only!! the thing is it shows in SAM info+ app as 5 MP and on any other 3rd party app its only 5 MP!! mine is exynos N960f
Same for me, only 5.2 MP for normal selfie... exynos note 9, June patch.
same here with last update
Just change the selfie mode. It starts with the wide selfie and not the "normal" selfie.

If you click on "wide selfie" you will see that it uses 8mpx... ?

Now I've made some tests.. You'll see 2.8 mpx only in panorama mode... You have to select photo and click on the left button over shutter button!
I swear it's not that confusing to use a camera on a phone

You always had 8mpx on your camera.. ? ?
The sensor is 8mp arranged in a 4:3 aspect ratio. You cannot get 8mp for an aspect ratio wider than that. An 18.5:9 wide image from that sensor is done by chopping 2800 pixels of the top and bottom (5.2mp left).
Now, if you zoom your selfie cam in and go back into settings to select your aspect ratio, you will see that 5.2mp is all you get for the 4:3 aspect ratio (that's the most mp you now get).
I suspect people are seeing this happen when they have their cam zoom on. Turn off zoom and look again.

Is there a way to change the default camera to the 12MP one?

Is it possible to use the low-light camera as the default one so 3rd parties like GCam can work with it?
Just use night view or manual but why you want to do that? More megapixel won't mean better camera just larger image

It actually means brighter photo in low light. The megapixel count might be higher, but it uses pixel binning to give 5 MP output, but a better low light image.
I think the reputed devs owning MI A2 here should develop some patches or modules to use second camera with GCam.
- Mi A1 has got it done with the telephoto lens
- One plus 5 got it with almost similar config as MI A2. Its secondary lens is low light, and uses same pixel binning like MI A2.
All we can do is hope that some dev researches a bit on this and gets this working on our device too. I'm very sure that its possible since GCam has made its way to triple lens switching already.
