Forgive me for asking this, but if your phone is unbranded, why were you complaining about Three being slow with updates?

Updates for unbranded handsets are nothing to do with carriers

No, because you need to flash a custom kernel.
Question - has the unlock status always said 'No', even before rooting? If it has, then there is no way to unlock it at all. Even if you debrand the phone by flashing a generic rom

I think it said no before aswell.
Would it be unlocked if I decided replace the boot partition

It's not that simple. If it was, someone here would have done it already. The bootloader is protected by all sorts of encryption as far as I know (I'm new to Sony and Qualcomm devices in general, but there's definitely some heavy security in place). Messing with that sort of thing will probably result in a brick.
Looks like you're stuck with stock based roms

At least the stock rom is pretty good, and there are plenty of stock based roms to play with
I had the same problem with my xperia play and my refurbished htc sensation. They all couldn't have their bootloaders unlocked by normal means.
I managed to unlock them in the end with third party programs. But any way when i tried unlocking with flashtool, i got the following log.

Be2 (pmr)## close please##

Pimp my rom has updated his bravia engine maybe its workin on the roms of you guys when you lost your be2 due to unlocking

Safest Way To Root

Hey everybody, I just got my note 3 this morning. I'm not new to rooting but I don't know the root procedure for this phone. Could someone please guide me in the right direction? My build number ends with MI9 if that helps ..

IF using MI9, use RDLV on it, and quickly, before it gets the OTA update (I'd disconnect it from networks entirely until it was rooted. Don't use RDLV if it's gotten the update!)
If it's not on MI9 anymore, your only options are kingo/vroot. Both of those are not allowed to be linked to on XDA because of suspicions about them being malicious (though many people have used them and reported no issues)
Downloaded rdlv last night left my phone charging woke up to my wife playing on it. She took the update cuz the phone asked her if she wanted to update. :banghead: anyway to downgrade don't really wanna use the other 2 options

No, you cannot downgrade the firmware. I think trying bricks it and trips knox warranty void.

The way I read it, currently unlocking bootloader force closes camera. Is camera force close still there if I use custom Rom I.e. I won't be using Sony camera app but I think camera firmware will still be Sony.

I think that app should be patched directly on device you want to install it. Or maybe you had installed "normal application" on xsp first, didn't work, patched and tried to update? I had a problem with gta:sa where obb files blocked me from installing patched app. Deleted it and it worked just fine.

There are threads in dev section. I think custom fw is worth trying as well. Even better than stock. I didn't want to dabrand my phone when i got it and later go away from stock rom, but now i'm sure cfw are being done to be greater than stock. There you can find detailed instructions
