What's your biggest pet peeve with the Nexus 5? You may have one, you may have many, or you may have none, but list only one.
For me, it's the vibration. It sucks so badly that I can't even feel it 1 cm away next to me on my desk, which needless to say is uber annoying. I'm on my second N5 and both are the same, so it's not a matter of one being defective. I can feel it find in my hands or in my pocket, but on a flat surface, nothing. I stopped counting how many important calls/message I've missed over the past week because of it.

I've just started to notice the same thing, the vibration is pretty weak
My biggest pet peeve with the nexus 5 is the fact that it randomly heats up when just browsing reddit or something similar. Its not like I'm playing dead trigger or some other graphic intensive game.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
For me it's the speaker, distorted and I can feel vibration from it throughout the phone.
Also the whole phone feels a bit cheap compared to how the n4 felt last year, with a solid feel and beautifully curved glass screen.
Odd, when my phone vibrates I can feel it from across my desk. And that's with vibration turned down to 50%, if it's at 100% it feels like it's going to shake itself apart (and gives me a heart attack whenever it goes off as well).
My speakers, however, are quite bad. Even with a volume adjustment tweak they're very quiet and very little sound comes out of them despite the back of the phone vibrating a lot, it looks like glue/whatever it was got in the way of my speakers. It's fixable but... I don't use the speakers enough to risk taking apart my phone.
my beef is with the placing of the volume and power buttons, maybe its my small hands but whenever I wake the phone up I press the 'volume down' button also ...
Weak, almost noon existent vibrator, terrible speaker, terrible battery life, useless ambient light sensor, terrible viewing angles of the screen. List goes on

So much for 1 annoyance.
You do know you have a choice when it comes to android phones, right? Feel free to return the nexus and try something else
Vibration here!
Have missed so many texts and calls and in turn I find myself pressing power button more often to make sure I don't have any notifications.
The locked ringer and notification volume
I had to wake up to take a call, but I didn't want notifications waking me up. There was no easy way to silence notifications because the ringer and notification volume controls are locked together. I had to use Xposed Framework with the Ringer and Notification Volume Unlink.
The crappy thing was that I also had to revert from ART to Dalvik because Xposed only works with Dalvik.

I know it's not ideal but you can go to
Settings --> Sound --> Volumes and then change them there.
For me its 100% the speed (or lack thereof) of the camera. I have a young baby daughter and trying to get shots of her is virtually impossible b/c this is the slowest camera I've used on a smartphone since 2008. The pictures themselves come out great but way too much blur due to the shutter speed being a complete and utter joke.
Mine is when I hold it in landscape I'm often covering the speaker and can't hear anything.
When 4G is enabled, the phone randomly goes beserk and drains the battery in a matter of hours, reporting 75% "Mobile Standby". Shut off 4G and it's fine. 4G remains off.
Oh, Bluetooth contact sync still sucks compared to CM10.x on N4. Only get partial contacts sync'ed to my BMW E61 :-/
Otherwise, I love it. Light usage day today - 15 hours off charge, 1.5 hours SOT (quite low for me, but I've been doing real work!), 45 mins of voice calls and bucket loads of emails - 61% battery left
The speed of the camera, absolutely. It takes pretty good quality photos (particularly with HDR+ enabled), but it's sooooo slow. I'm also really not happy with the relatively bright black level and light bleed issues of the display.
That being said, I still love this phone. The camera speed will most likely be fixed with an OTA update, and the black levels are not a deal breaker by any means.
My biggest pet peeve has to be the speaker and the camera focus glitch. If I tap, it'll focus then unfocus. It's driving me nuts. Camera speeds are not as slow as everyone is saying they are.

My biggest problem is the ringtone sound its not loud enough and why didn't they put two speakers in there I can't see any glue covering my speaker grill. I've missed so many calls even with volume on full.

Wow so many ppl complain g about what seems to be an awesome phone battery life is plenty good for me getting 3-3.5 hours screen time what more do u want?
no dead pixels no yellow coloring vibration is just fine and with audio and camera mod those two are just fine now to ppl its a 350 dollar phone not a 600-700 dollar phone that alone make any other small thing erelevent. Just my opinion.

Buzz from earphone speaker
- May be due to poor shielding. Some may be able to hear the frequency, some may not. 666FFF summed it up the best "...It's such a low crackle/hiss sound. You really need to press the phone against your head and be in a quiet room to hear it. Ambient sound is much louder. My only worry is if it is using battery constantly..."
Tell Google about it here. LEDs tend to produce a lot of noise, and with such a high density battery in the device, there could be some resonance occurring (since it buzzes/crackles all the time, but seems less so when in deep sleep).
[UPDATE] Seems it is a mfg. defect. Some people with their replacement phone/friend's phone have commented on it being fixed. However, others have reported the replacement is worse. So...buyer beware. If anyone knows how to figure out the batch number of our phones, maybe we could track it that way?
"Unreasonably" hot device
- The thermal conductivity is much higher in glass than plastic. I wouldn't worry about it.
Poor battery performance
- Give it a few charge cycles...Got 5 hours screen on, 20 hrs on, 5% left yesterday on first charge! Also disable location tracking via WiFi, and disable Google Currents auto-update.
Poor touchscreen sensitivity
- Not sure. Screen protector?
Feedback when plugged in.
- It's a ground loop. Google it and fix it.
Easy scratching/cracking
- Doesn't make much technical sense (http://www.corninggorillaglass.com/sites/all/files/GG2 PI Sheet Rev b_050912.pdf), but perhaps things are cracking due to high thermal gradients (GG2 has a lower coef of expansion than GG1, so not sure why that would be the case...perhaps the thinner material?).
When has an Android phone gotten more than a day with moderate use? RAZR Maxx doesn't count.
But yes, I have noticed it getting very hot especially when charging. Probably because it is glass.

I get 2 with a crappy myTouch Q.
The thermal conductivity of glass is 5-10x greater than plastic, so I would think glass is the culprit.
Add rattle and yellow tint.
And touchscreen unresponsiveness.
The speaker make some noises - also if it is not in use. Hold it near to your ear and you can hear it. (pls test it). It crackle low.
Is there a bug report or something?
If your going to make an issues list please make sure you take into account how many phones have this issue.
I dont have any of these issues, and the battery 'issue' is not an issue at all. I am waiting for someone to pipe up about a rattle:laugh: that can only be heard when shaking to phone near your ear!
Also take into account some issues phone may have will be faulty devices. A standard manufacturing fault rate is <3% however most are happy with <5%.

1. Barely noticeable on my device unless I shake it like a maniac next to my ear.
2. Don't have this
3. Mine is centered perfect. Keep in mind production is never 100% perfect so there's bound to be misalignment on occasion.
I also have yet to experience any warming and I've been messing around with it since early this morning.

However, I don't care at all that it makes this noise.

It should be noted that the most typical reason for a slight rattling in a smart phone is an auto-focus camera sensor/lens. This is an "issue" that seems to plague all smart phones with auto-focus cameras.
Just from reading through a load of the threads in this forum, I've noticed a lot of indecision.
Let me explain...
Apparently, this phone has not got enough in stock to make sure everyone gets one, there's a buzz from the earphones, it heats up too much, it has poor battery life, poor touch sensitivity, easily scratchable, screen smashes too much, it drops down the toilet too easily, it makes a rattling noise, yellow tint, screen glitching, the screen looks washed out, massive interference whilst using a car charger, a looping FC of Bluetooth Share, not enough vibration, it randomly reboots, black dots under the screen, no connection on WLAN, not enough storage, dead pixels, grainy photos, LED flash doesn't work, wonky haptic feedback, antenna gate issue, slight lift on screen, brightness gets broke, unresponsive power button, slow auto focus, creaking on bottom right of the device, most free media from the play store only available in the US, purple glaze effect on the camera, wireless charging problems, the onscreen soft key, poor WiFi signal, gap between bezel and the side of the phone, it won't drive your car for you and it won't grow legs and kick your enemies.
I'm surprised I haven't seen a complaint saying that the box it comes in is 1mm too thick.
And yet the majority of people think it's the best phone ever.
Just make up your freaking mind!!!!!

The box is way too thin. It creases way too easy and under a lunar eclipse you can really notice it.

Mine has 'niggles' but I don't care, I'm picky but I'm not THAT picky!
The vibration works well, my alarm went off in my pocket when I was driving, gave me a boner so it's clearly strong enough! lol
People seem to be vocal with problems. I've always received an item, decided if it lives up to my expectations and returned it if it doesn't, without moaning on the forums. If it's a software issue, like most of my niggles I'm going to just deal with them until the fix comes, since this is a Nexus device after all, we're in good shape for updates!
Products have issues, welcome to the realm of early adoption.
Phil
Yep I agree. As much as everyone wants the perfect device you can't have cutting edge tech the day it comes out AND have a perfect device.
Under testing there is simply not enough retail devices made at this point to mass test under mass production conditions for long enough to find faults.
Even apple and Samsung and Sony etc etc all release devices be it phones TVs laptops hard drives or a desk fan all will be released before kinks are worked out
This is not deliberate, its just that issues which come up have not been found yet.
Check any identical devices made even 4months apart and you will no doubt find that there are different revisions of board used in them or chip.
Plastic production can be different and parts can be sourced else where .
So unless a recall is required for a dangerous fault, issues will be resolved in future devices.
This is not lg this is anything with a plug that this relates to.
I do agree however many cosmetic flaws should never pass quality control as they are easy enough to see and most of these QC checks are done with cameras now not humans so any discrepancy should be picked up easily to be referred to a human to double check.

Yeah, F this forum! Let's move to 4chan/nexus4!
Mine has a slightly buzzing earpiece and the screen seems a little darker on one side although this is probably just my eyes lol.
I have none of the other issues, and have to say that it is a MUCH better phone than the SGS 3 I had for six months.
I was constantly changing ROMS on the SGS3 and was never 100% happy.
This phone is built better, is louder, has a stronger vibrate, better screen, louder and clearer speaker, clearer in calls, much faster and is truly smooth and lag and skip free. The touchscreen is perfect.
Cannot make even one complaint about this phone that would put me off it.
I am enjoying my phone a ton!
My phone rattles but since I don't have Parkinsons I don't hear it.
I have the buzz but the only time I would be able to hear it is when I am on the phone and either me or the other person is talking to I can't hear it!
I don't take my phone to the bathroom so I haven't dropped it in the toilet yet.
Overall a great phone and totally worth the purchase price!

I ordered my Nexus 5 October 31st, and have read countless threads about defects for the phone. UPS just delivered my Nexus 5.. this phone is absolutely amazing.
01. There's no wiggle/rattle when shaking the phone.. the only sound I hear is the camera lense, nothing coming from the power button. Power button isn't that lose, sits tight, same with volume rockers. The edges are a little sharp on the buttons but I like it - easier to find them in the dark and press.
02. No dead pixels.
03. No strange sound when tapping on the display
04. Display looks amazing - nice bright colours. Natural tones. Awesome. No odd yellow tint on whites.
05. Vibration sounds solid - not too loud, not too soft, just right.
06. Why is everyone complaining about the sound? Seriously? Just tested music and YouTube - and sounds great (had the HTC One and I'm not complaining here)
Prior to receiving the phone, I actually compiled a list of things to check to see if my phone has issues. These are all points I read in threads, and made me feel uneasy about receiving my unit.
- speakers: higher than 70
- speakers: less than 40
- whites (google page)
- light bleed
- ceramic buttons rattle
- phone rattle
- clicking when pressing down
- vibrate motor
- dead pixels (display tester app)
- speaker pop when turning off?
- check if sim tray closes completely

Anyways, yeah, mine is fine too, other than I really have crappy signal coverage here regardless of what T-mo claims... but at least I'm finally back to what I had as "good" HSPA+ latency/bandwidth(LTE mind you, c. 10Mup/2Mdown/70+ms latency T-mobile USA) before it all went to hell last spring... so it's an upgrade in that sense, although I must admit overall the n5 is MUCH snappier than the n4, and the radios really are better(or at least WiFi, hard to tell with cell)...
Build quality is NOT NEARLY as good as the n4 overall though IMNHO... the n5 is like a ghetto/trailer park version...

Maybe I got lucky, but my phone seems to be just fine!
Mine seems fine too, but I am waiting for my Sim card to ship. Arrives on monday. Hopefully I don't have radio/connection issues.

Only problem with mine is the power button rattles. With a case on it doesn't happen though.
The vibration also whistles a little bit, but it just needs setting to 30ms and it will be fine.
Power button has a bit of play if I move my finger over it sideways but only noticed it now after reading the poll, so not really a problem per se.
Perfect unit here
I must be lucky also after hearing about dead pixels and loose vibrator's etc, nothing wrong with my unit what so ever

I tried to rattle my power button and barely hear anything. I tried to see the light leaking and bleeding and once again nothing. I was so paranoid about dead pixels and dust lol that i spent 15 minutes examining and cleaning the screen with a micofiber cloth under a powerful flashlight to see if i found anything and nope. I'm glad to say I got one of the perfect units since I was so paranoid that my 32Gig Stormtrooper was going to have dust under the screen.
Just for people who think they have no faults, might be worth checking with a dead pixel checking app, might surprise you!
Mine actually is fault free.
No dead pixels (I can notice I returned an HTC One for dead pixels).
Vibrator seems solid, no button issues. Very happy with it.
I have a white 16GB, bought on launch day if it matters.
My power button has a little room and rattles a bit when i tip on the screen. But that's the poor mans vibration and thus saves battery, so i don't mind.
Otherwise the Phone is fine.
Mine is fine too! No faults, no problems.
Got it a week ago.

Bluetooth Quality
The only issue I have with my Nexus 5 is Bluetooth Connection Quality. This issue was persistent from brand new out of the box, and through flashing of custom roms.
With my Nexus 4 I would connect to my speakers in the next room via bluetooth while in the bathroom taking a shower. Connection quality was always perfect. With Nexus 5 it will connect and sound great, but will get the occasional static and distortion you find when going out of range of your bluetooth receiver. The problem is that the distance this is happening over is between 10-15 feet. Never had this problem on the Nexus 4.

Used 2 dead pixel apps and a magnifying glass as well. I was really paranoid lol. Only thing is that the speaker volume actually is low and I'm coming from a Galaxy S2 and I'm disappointed in the speaker quality.
Loose power button but everything else perfect. Not worth RMA'ing for. Slapped a case on the phone and power button now firm and solid.
I only have 1 thing that bothers me about the phone. The size doesn't matter to me, and neither does the price.
But the battery, on the other hand, doesn't last very long. I can only get by about 3-4 hours of on screen time. They should have made the Nexus 6 with a 4000 mAh battery.
I'm not a fan of the Miracast option being taken away. Unsure if it's just a software piece, but I'd really be sad if the hardware didn't allow for this.

The fact that Motorola didn't use a IPS over a AMOLED when Lollipop is the Android reiteration that moves away from dark backgrounds to having white backgrounds.
AMOLED doesn't display whites as whites and whites consume more battery than black backgrounds.
Everything about the phone is great looking aside from the unsuccessful launch with supply meeting its demand.
The power button placement with a case. I tend to press the volume up more than the power button.
Nothing that a future version of Xposed can't fix. Physically the phone is great.
Camera. Takes quality pics once it focuses, but low light sucks compared to the N5. I can't even take a good selfie for Snapchat sometimes ☺

I think Snapchat doesn't play well with the Nexus 6 yet because I have the same problem.
Also, HDR+ mode helps a hell of a lot with low light situations.
Hmmm would probably be that the back of it is an insanely good fingerprint magnet...that and a ton of apps don't work with lollipop, or are not optimized for it and are unplayable

The power button placement with a case. I tend to press the volume up more than the power button.

Yep...[emoji651]
Now dealing with a dust particle that appeared overnight showing on every photo or video I take. Time for a replacement.
Hard to pick just one. These just about tied:
1. Forced encryption
2. New volume mess - - no mute
3. My new ailment : Carpal Nexus Syndrome.
I CAN use it one handed but using all day yesterday my hand is very sore. MOTRIN FRIDAY!
Any of you notice any screen burn in yet? Just watched a video where a 2 day old nexus 6 had burn in. My pet peeve is still no micro SD card slot!!!
The signal bar in the battery screen is inaccurate unless they changed things up? My bar shows orange even though I'm getting -98dbm.

I only have 1 thing that bothers me about the phone. The size doesn't matter to me, and neither does the price.
But the battery, on the other hand, doesn't last very long. I can only get by about 3-4 hours of on screen time. They should have made the Nexus 6 with a 4000 mAh battery.

I have been trying to buy a nexus 6 and am getting frustrated about the order process as I want to purchase from Google Play. The battery issue is one thing that is making doubts. I had a Mate 2 that got 3 days use. The Mate 7 is looking more and more like a better phone and I may just wait for it.
AS said above the proximity of the power button to the volume buttons and the the fact that I can mute the phone with power buttons.
Hopefully the mute can be fixed in Xposed one it is ready for user consumption.
same here the power button is to close to the volume buttons i always press the wrong one..
not as much an issue now since i got the case-mate folio on it.

I've been using the heck out of my Nexus 6 for the last 10 days and haven't seen any burn in yet.
It doesn't bother me that much anyways because I might switch to a HTC One (M9) when it releases if it impresses me and if by that time my N6's burn in really bothers me.
(Or of course if there's something else I hate about the phone at the time)
No LED...
No xposed. I knew that going in though.

The back is more slippery than I thought, but that's about it... I really love this phone. I can't look at the N5 screen now. My eyes bleed.
