4 hour battery life for NOOK HD+ is notmal? - Nook HD, HD+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My NOOK still runs stock rom and the software has been updated to 2.1.1. I set 30% brightness and only use it for browsing Internet.
I always turn the Wi-Fi off when I don't use this tablet. But I only got 4 hour battery life from full charge. Is it normal?

That sounds too low. Is it new or refurbished?

Thanks for your reply. My NOOK HD+ was new, not refurbished.
I only installed some apps, as nova launcher, es file explorer and Dolphin browser.
Do you have any idea to improve or recalculate battery?

If you're talking 4hrs of continuous use non-stop it doesn't sound too far off. But if you aren't doing that, which I'm imagining you aren't, it seems low.
How long have you had it? If it's only been a couple days then your battery is still calibrating and will get better.

Run a battery app to see what is using the battery. You could have an application that is keeping the nook from sleeping. You should get better than that. Yesterday I plugged in before bed I checked and I was at 1 day 17 hours with 6 hours of screen time and I still had 41% left. That was 70/30 reading/games.

Galaxy Note not going idle?

Hi I think I'm having problem with my galaxy Note, I went for a meeting and leave it on my desk doing nothing and make sure that I turned off the display.
But when I came back it was so hot! It feels like it never went in idle or something.
Then I check on battery usage, it was on running on battery for about 5 hours. then this Android OS was also running for almost the same time. So I'm guessing that it didn't go to idle mode and consumed my battery significantly.
Then I remember, before going in the meeting I was reading my google reader feeds, and I just turned off/locked my screen without closing the app pressing the home button. Does it matter?

Not sure, but that could keep the Note from going to sleep, so use it some more and see if it still happens. If it does then you'll know, if it doesn't then install this and keep an eye on it (press menu and "App Sucker")
Ok. Thanks for the app suggestion!

I've used the badass battery monitor, for about 6 hours, the app said that kernel used 98% of the battery. Is this normal? I never used my note since I unplugged it on the charger with fully charged battery. And it drained 40%!! Even when I'm not using my galaxy note.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA App
Wow, no that's not normal. Mine says 3.2%. Are you rooted? What ROM do you use?
My note is not rooted... Only the stock rom I think. But I updated it when an update was available. My launcher perhaps? Keeps on draining my battery. This is really frustrating.
Any suggestions?

Low battery life

Hello,
Since I bought my cell (about 1 year ago) I've been experiencing low battery life. I've used different roms, tried about almost everything to decrease battery consumption (2g, no wi-fi, etc) but it still lasts about max 8h (moderate usage). While using continously it lasts max 2-3h. So is this normal, what could I possibly do about it or should I just buy a new battery?
Currently running Nova Hd RC 21-39 with Supernova pre RC-3 kernel.

No that's no where near normal. Could you get a screen shot the battery usage ?

Not sure if you ment those stats, just tell me if it are not the right stats.
Translation:
Signal mobile network
Wi-fi
Turned on
Screen on
Charging

Other stats are:
Screen - 92% (on automatic though) Wi-fi - 7%
Mobile stand-by - 3%
Yes, it makes 102% kinda weird ^^

don't sorry about screen percentage, its heaps inaccurate.
Could you install system panel from the market and tell me what the cpu's are doing on idle?
sent from my wii remote
Nothing really special, it varies tho sometimes it goes to max instantly and drops back within 2s

same issue here..
running nova hd RC22-41..
I'm pretty sure the battery if screwed. You can pick one up off eBay for a steal.

Your cpu is at 50% all the time, how is that nothing special?
Install os monitor and check whats using the cpu.

Wait. When you say drops back? What does it drop back to?

Short answer yes i did and it helps a nit

Looked at OS monitor and only thing that consumed cpu is android system (5%) and system (2%)
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA
I'm running CM7.2 RC1
Worked fine for a while and now th phone looses 10% per hour (idle). Checked OS monitor and System panel but there is nothing eating CPU or something that shouldn't run.
Only thing that changed between the two phone states (fine / annoying as hell) is some experimenting with GetRIL. So I re-installed the RIL (v20l) that worked fine before but it didn't help.
Also I have two batteries. The original LG and the Andida, both give crappy results. Think I'm going to try to go back to the stock ROM, see if it helps.
i just did that. having two batteries will probably confuse the calibration unless u calibrated them the same way. either way, from what im guessing, not fully discharging the batt will mess the readings as 1 constant battery ?
According to my earlier measurements the Andida is also about 1500 mAh in real life. So it shouldn't differ much. From what I read clearing the battery stats doesn't do much, said some Google developer. I'm back to v20r now and it looks much better.
40% in 7 hours, before it was 10% per hour idle.
Today it was even better, ~30% in 8 hours. This looks more like I was used to.

Screen on time

Respectable battery time on a $150 tablet i would say. I put heavy usage on it, mostly browsing and researching, a few add on flashes, around an hour of video time, 30 minutes or so of gaming and still pulled a little over 8 hours screen on time on a full charge. Cm 10.1 installed. Color me happy.

Install Carbon ROM. You'll be happier.
Just a suggestion.
Edit: This is also with PIE enabled. It supposedly drains more battery.

Holy NiCad Batman. That's some sweet battery life. Might have to try it out soon. ATM I'm on Verygreens and I like it with the tablet UI mod but the browser is a bit wonky. Ill run it a week or so and see all the bugs then try Carbon and decide on what I like more.

Stock ROM and arrrrghh's kernel. I drain the battery a lot, but it lasts me 10h oc'd to 1.8

I've haven't tried any other custom roms beside CM 10.1.3 stable: no bloatware, better than stock battery life, and tons of customization. I wouldn't want to try anything else.
Update#1: I've been experiencing frequent reboots through out the day. Seems to happen randomly or before and after being plug in to charge.
Update#2: Too many crashes/reboots on the CM10.1.3 stable. I couldn't take it anymore so I flash CM10.2..latest nightly. Amazing! No reboots, far stable than 10.1. Gonna stick with 10.2 for a week or two then try custom roms as ProBam and Carbon.
Update#3: So 10.2 does crash and restarts. It will happen while it is plugged in "Charging". GAPPS would crash i noticed. wth
HoloBlur, Carbon, or CyanogenMod hands down.

4.2 ROMs (especially AOKP): +++battery, -stability.
4.3 ROMs (LiquidSmooth 2.10, Carbon): -battery, +stability.
There is no golden middle choice. However, 4.3 roms provide much more features and the battery life is compared to stock (but still worse), so, not a bad choice to try.
Tried all everything you guys have said and I've come to the conclusion that either my battery is defective or this phone just sucks when it comes to battery life regardless or ROM or kernel. Thanks anyways

What kind of Battery life are you getting? I get anywhere from 6-8 hours with heavy use to 16 hours with light use... Stock battery btw
One time I was playing gangstar Vegas on medium settings with lowest brightness for like 30min and the battery went all the way down to 25%. I started out with 100%. Also even on standby the battery goes down like 15% with WiFi and everything off and airplane mode on. I just don't get it. It pisses me off. The battery lasts me like let's say 8hrs with VERY VERY low usage. Like I'm talking like only maybe 25-50min screen time at like 25 percent brightness.

Sounds like you need the MAXX battery mod. My battery will last in excess of 30 hours on one charge. The battery isn't that cheap, but imo, it was totally worth it.

Best Rom
in my opinion, holoblur 0.9 tuned edition or x 0.9 Pure performance edition, are the most stable and less battery consumption, the other roms left out of the ADH standard features like HDMI mirror. The other functions that handle the other ROMS are esthetic and user support that we like to be playing with our phones giving better appearance.
Hey guys. So went back to stock 4.1.1 and its been great. I'm using the stock kernel. I'll get the maxx battery soon or on black Friday but overall in terms of battery life, stock has it.

So you're not running rocking the "HoloBlur-X ROM PurePerformanceâ„¢ Edition" anymore?
There is no best ROM/Kernel, try them all and see which "best" suits you.

HD+ battery drained 40% overnight

My wife's Nook running 10.2.1 went from about 55% to 14% charge overnight last night. It was in sleep mode and WiFi was off. Normally it would lose 2-3% in that length of time. Usage was mostly Google Play services and Android OS. What would Play Services be doing while the tablet was asleep?

Play Auto updating? Just a thought. Most of the time I've found excessive battery drain attributable to some app's hidden agenda.

WiFi is off (supposedly) when it's sleeping so that shouldn't be happening. Even so, I wouldn't expect apps auto-updating to take the battery down 40%.

Possibly an app goin crazy during a wakelock, which allows an app to do stuff while the phone is asleep.http://manojprasaddevelopers.blogspot.com/2012/02/what-is-wakelock.html
There are sleep related bugs sometimes as well in the roms, but since its been out a long time now, probably isn't that.
Not sure what else.
