Does it require rooting? While I have you, which method of rooting did you use with Kit Kat?
Much appreciated.

The app Adaway is very good, but requires root, haven't checked if it's compatible with 4.4, I'm still running 4.2

While I have your attention, what is the best root method with 4.4?
Many thanks.

I believe with a locked bootloader, the only option is jcase's Slapmymoto, to root 4.4

haven't had to install it for some time (was on GNEX for a long time running CM), i know adaway is not on gplay anymore, where do you get it from? i see it on f-droid, wondering if that's a "reputable" site
edit: found it right here via xda

is bigtincan still supporting adfree? i've used their app since the first droid and within the last month, it would appear as if they've completely abandoned the product. i've since swithced to adaway, although i haven't implemented anything on my X as i have yet to root.

For ad blocking, I use Bigtincan's AdFree -> http://adfree.bigtincan.com/index.php
As for rooting.. if you have a locked bootloader.. then JCASE's methods, depending on your ROM version... SlapMyMoto (if you have 4.4), RockMyMoto(if you have the "camera fix" OTA), or PwnMyMoto(if you are using the original shipping rom) available in this section-> http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/orig-development
If you have an unlocked bootloader, then see -> https://plus.google.com/110773150384694258853/posts/VhtJtg92sTP there is also a thread somewhere here with the the same instructions and discussion.

How can I tell if I have a locked bootloader and if I have the the "camera fix" OTA or just 4.4?I just bought my MX from AT&T a week ago and it updated to 4.4 immediately.

At&t has locked boot loader and you can't unlock it.
The camera update ota was still 4.2.2. If you upgraded to 4.4, you have the one and only kit Kat ROM so use the Slapmymoto thread to root.

Check out the "slap my moto" thread in original development. It'll take you through the process of installing a back door for root (not actually rooting yet) on 4.2.2 and then upgrading to 4.4 with root

TMO Xperia Z update 10.4.C.0.814 will it break root?

I just rooted my Xperia Z (C6606) last night, and now this morning I notice my xperia is downloading a new update. I'm not new to the scene with rooting, I'm sure it will break my root, is there a root method for this new update?
It most likely break root if successful or fail to update.

I loaded the update and lost my root access. Trying to find an updated root process now that will work with the 10.4.C.0.814 version. Very frustrating that I can't simply post in the thread for the previous version of root to ask for an update.
TMo? An update? What android version?
If you want root you will have to go back to 4.2.2 and root it again then flash a pre rooted stock based ROM.
Usually an update kills root.

It's not an Android update. It's updates to some of the Sony applications and I think some UI tweaks. According to T-Mobile, Sony has not released an update to the phone beyond 4.2.2. Ha.
I researched it after the question. Its apparently 4.3 as said in other sources. TMo cant document did their life.

Flash the ROM in the recovery console, such as TWRP then flash the kernel with FlashTool. Many of the threads in the dev section do a good job of quickly running through the steps.
I used NUT's 4.4.2 pre-rooted ROM.

Just keep stock rom without root, and wait for OTA
Edit: If you want the update and dont wait for OTA just flash 4.4.2 Tmobile version and download the OTA (Tmobile version too).
Then install recovery twrp and root your phone using the twrp.
I did that !!!! Now I've 4.4.3 rooted

It is our blessing and our curse. Whether it is the chip or a combination of our different chip and locked bootloader, there is no way to root the SM-T807V just yet, or should I say I have not seen a way to root it without tripping Knox.
The only reason it can't be rooted is because of the locked bootloader.
Kingroot is the only option for locked devices at the moment, but only works on kitkat.

Fair enough. The reason I perhaps responded in the manner I did was because in another thread Ihad someone tell me that the locked bootloader made no difference and that Kingroot would work with the locked bootloader. Well as I keep saying Kingroot did not work with the locked bootloader regardless if I tried it on Kit Kat or Lollipop. Ieven tried it again last night and I keep getting the message screen telling me it failed but research info was sent with the picture of an envelope. I guess it also claims that they have received over 10k updates with info regarding devices on which it has not worked.

I have the AT&T S5 running Lollipop.
I don't recall - but I *think* I got this device before Lollipop was released. I got the device in May'14. My research shows that Lollipop came out Nov'14.
So - if I got the device with the prior release - but it's running Lollipop now - is there a way to root it?
Thanks.

If you are on the official 5.0+ ota, through any means other than the prerooted flashfire method, there is no known way to downgrade, root, etc. If you flashed the ota for lollipop, bought your phone and it had lollipop, or took the ota, and it is an att s5 (G900A) then it is not, at the time of me posting this, possible to downgrade to KitKat or root or anything of the sort.

Does anyone have the firmware for the lollipop on s5 active?
Does anyone know if models of S5 being sold as new now are being released with lollipop or kitkat preinstalled?
Is there a way to know by serial number on the box?
The reason I am asking is I just purchased one online a few days ago on the daily steals website has it was advertised As new and unlocked. I did not realize being that I am from Canada that this was a lockdown AT&T model. It is scheduled to arrive in the next day or so and I would prefer not to open the box and affect my ability to return it without restocking fee if it already comes with lollipop on it. Hi I'm less concerned about achieving root and more concerned about having the ability to native flea tether on my plan back here in Canada.
Also if it did come with lollipop firmware preinstalled, is there a way to enable native tethering on the phone if root is not achievable?

I'm not sure either I would just see if it is a 5.0 and below and just achieve root its so simple then you flash native tethering it just sounds like that would be the easiest way
5.0 and below or just kit Kat?
