400 MB ramm Free ONLY !??? - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys !
i will get to the point straight ! i have only average from 400~500 MB ram free after installing all my stuff.
my previous phone was Htc One and with the same installation got 1.1 GB free !
i tried to disable some BloatWare belong to Sony that i dont use and ended up with average 550mb
Just to mention the device after reset consumes 1.3 ~ 1.2GB without any added applications.
So is it normal to have only this free ram ? i mean what if i played a heavy game as dead trigger or asphalt8 will the phone slow down ?
i searched for Freeze apps but all needs to root and am all stock cuz i read that root blow out the camera ?
any suggesstions ?

Same here but I think we spoke about this some where on xda. If I find the thread I will post it.
Basically the OS tend to have ready opened on ram all the common apps which you use ready to go. Even if I don't like this way is how it's working.
If you playing heavy games the OS will kill the unnecessary app in background.

You didn't search well, rooting your phone will not break the camera, Unlock the Bootloader will do that. With locked bootloader you still can root you phone and also flash roms, the only thing you can't flash is custom kernels.

i wont pretend to be smart but all my life been using samsungs and rooting was piece of cake with Odin and boom its done.
but here i cant keep up with bootloader and z1 rooting seems too complicating or maybe am getting lazy !
also i want to get the Over the air updates in samsungs after rooting it stops and i guess the same with sony !

Yes, I agree, that why the custom roms are made without all the crap running in background, and they are more battery efficient. Probably if we root the phone we will be able to uninstall or swich off all the apps which we don't need. I wait just to repaid my HTC and when I am ready I will root my Z1.

So i must root to freeze bloatware OMG so now i have to start learning rooting Z1
i thought it just a SnapShot of unneeded apps and we disable them and we are done.

rooting is easy
Just follow one of the several guides in the general and/or development section
The only real difference is that in non-sony devices people unlock the bootloader to root, but there is no need to do that in sony devices. Just run a rootkit.
The easiest to use is bin4rys root many android (Google it)
Just downgrade to a .534 FW using the original flashtool from flashtool.net and any 534 FTF file from themega collection in the general section.
You can be rooted in less than 5 minutes (Ignoring the download time of the 800MB FTF file)

yes, that's you get root on latest FW
It will update OTS from .534 to the latest .257 and keep root

Concerning Ram Management on Android, I would like to refer to a post I made a few days ago (I think it actually is the one eclyptos mentioned):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47914570
I highly recommend reading the article I named in that post!
Edit: Looks like directly linking to a post does not work in the mobile app, it's post #11

Am cool of understanding ram usage and this stuff. But am not cool about using apps i dont demand ? i.e: Bloatware
Just to mention Note3 out of the box uses 2.2GB ram! !! BLOATWARE EVERYWHERE the only phone tried with stock pure android is the htc one ram usage out of the box is 600mb leaving around 1.2gb for user to kick in
Sent from my C6903 using Tapatalk

Yeah 400MB free on mine, no problems with performance, as the system demands more ram the system should automatically garbage collect from the ram to gather free space. To a certain extent it is good to have the system like this (lower available memory) because many things are cached for faster access

Got the dev edition for vrzn, now what?

Thus far I have:
-Unlocked the bootloader, installed recovery, and Rooted (installed all my fav rooted apps)
-Installed Xposed for gravitybox
-Gotten tethering to work (what a pain that rooting doesnt just solve that problem)
-Deleted bloatware
Am I missing anything others are doing?

rooted Z1 with automatic system updates

Hey
I have C6903 with boot-loader unlock enabled (didn't touch it).
Currently I am running unrooted stock rom.
I want to root my device but I don't want (and don't have the time) to flash an updated rom each time android gets updated
long story short..
I want to get automatic system updates on rooted device without rerooting or reflushing my device.
In addition I would like to keep using some of sony's features (like stamina mode) but erase the rest.
thanks for the help!

It is not possible. All the System Updates will wipe your Root. To keep Root you will have to do it manually all the time when a Update will be available. Apps updates like Walkman ecc.. You will can update them Automatcally.

What is the closest solution to my request?
You send me your phone in the post so I can do it for you.
I mean, in all honesty, how busy do you have to be so that flashing a rom is too much trouble for you.
You could have it rooted and flashed in the time between your two posts in this thread

OK, yes, I can use titanium to backup and restore it all, but how can I figure out what is the most recommended rom dioxide stock or custom rom) for Z1?
I don't want to start trying them all..

In my Opinion when you will get a 4.3 or 4.4 Rooted and Deodexed Android and it satisfide your needs, then any Update is unecessary.
Stock is good.
Updates make huge changes and sometime they are not the right choice.
Like a new phone come on the market then is the same with Android.
You don't have to buy it.
Am I right?
what is LB-UB?

[ROM] OctamodWear - Stock + root + busybox + Reboot2Recovery

CAUTION!! This ROM is mostly made for developers and people interested in developing for Samsung Gear Live. I take no responsabilities for possible damages to your device.
Hi everyone.
I open a new thread here in General because I have not enough posts for posting in Development, and I don't want to spam other threads only for posting there. Moderators can move this if they want.
We have here the first Custom ROM for Samsung Gear Live: OctamodWear
Currently we have very few new features, but this is only the beginning.
Features
- OctamodWear 0.2
- KMV78Y based
- Fully deodexed
- Root
- Busybox
- WearControl, the system management app. Reboot2Recovery is gone; install WearControl from PlayStore to ensure you always have the latest version: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=octathorp.wearcontrol
- ES File Explorer and Quick System Info preinstalled
- OctamodWear 0.1
- KMV78X based
- Root
- Busybox
- Reboot2Recovery, it's an app made by me that let you reboot in recovery mode (interesting for use with custom recoveries).
- ES File Explorer and Quick System Info preinstalled (mainly, for developing purposes. I included them because it was a pain to install again with each data-wipe during tests).
Important
- Superuser permissions (root) are enabled by default, without Superuser or similar app. So, whatever app that you install and require root permissions will obtain them. That's due to the fact that there is no Superuser app for Android Wear yet.
- We need unlocked bootloader in order to be able to install the ROM (fastboot oem unlock).
- This system (Android Wear) is still very recent, and there are many things we don't know, despite its similarities with Android.
Work-in-progress...
- Get a better battery consumption.
- Improve performance
- Other things I have not thought about yet
Installation
If you don't have unlocked bootloader, follow this steps:
- Connect using ADB and run "adb reboot bootloader"
- In the bootloader screen, run "fastboot oem unlock". Warning!! This will wipe the device.
- Once you have unlocked the bootloader, the next step is to flash the provided system.img, using "fastboot flash system system_octamodWear.img"
- Done!

I will try to help you if you need it, but please, there are a lot of pages on the web where you can get information about ADB drivers or bootloader unlocking effects, so please, use Google.
Furthermore, I don't have much free time due to work and personal life, so this ROM will not have a very fast development. My main purpose is to give people something they can start working with, and make a great development community.
Enjoy it!

This is the best day EVER!! Thank you so very much!!
Hey @octathorp I just received an update a couple days ago and did it... I assume the update would not be compatible with this ROM, or can I still install this ROM? Thanks!
Update is KMV78Y by the way.
Hi.
I have not received the update yet, so i don't really know. It should work well, because this is only system.img, but i'm gonna update the base rom as soon as I receive the update.
One thing i forgot to post some days ago... I've made an app that lets you reboot your device into recovery or bootloader, as well as changing CPU governors. It's Reboot2Recovery replacement, and it will be included in next release. Meanwhile, you can get the app from Play Store, searching "WearControl" (sorry i cannot post links yet).
I'll update the OP.

Return to Stock?
What would be the best way to return to stock? My guess would be to flash the system img that Adam Outler posted but want to make sure that I'm correct. I got excited and flashed this without backing up on TWRP first.
Hey is it possible to put the ROM in flashable form for TWRP?! Would make it much easier to install

Awesome man! I know you said in OP that you are very busy and stuff, would be appreciated though if you got the flashable working, then I can flash stuff on the watch like I do on my phone, so easy.... instead of having to go thru ADB!

I can access them though using start tho. Anyone know how to get them into the launcher?

And my phone works 100%. I could delete more maybe 10 to 15 max it just depends on what your needs/uses for the phone are. Thanks again. Some food for thought You can get the project desire 4.0 sound mod for z2 z3 it works awesome. (take a back up just in case) The z4 bootanimation is better and smoother than ours. Xposed modules= -no device check- - xblast tools- -native freezer- -xinternalsd- -xperiafmwohs- -Xperia xposed LP - all of these are worth your time enjoy.

All I've really noticed is a boost in performance. Also, I believe I was getting around 5 hrs of SOT with .485 and now I'm getting around 5:30, but I haven't gone through enough battery cycles to make any definitive conclusions. Only thing you have to worry about is the fact that 509 is a lot zippier and feels a lot lighter than .485

I might suggest going with the Z2 compatible version since the Z3v is basically the same as the Z2 in terms of physical design and they both run under the same production name Sirius.

Dude I was going to do this to get the stagefright exploit patched but it's already patched on 509 check for yourself and I checked my build prop and all my stagefright media is on true.- not vulnerable- so I have to say I'm very happy and if verizon ever pushes the ota we will have advanced calling. (Edit) I belive this 509 firmware may actually be 5.1.1 even though it says it's 5.0.2- this could be possible since when I looked up firmware 485 it had 66xx so... -because my stagefright exploit is fixed and I can't activate advanced calling - meaning I can get into the menu but not to the verizon part- 5.1.1 integrates advanced calling so.. This may be 5.1.1 (edit)- it's not - its 5.0.2 with stagefright patch and some ui updates over 5.0.2 -485 firmware

I am on build 23.0.E.1.44 - do I need to change that to flash this FTF?

You can only flash this through a custom recovery. The actual ftf is elsewhere. While I'm here, if you want root you must get it on KitKat then flash this zip to maintain root. If you don't need root find the ftf and flash through flashtool. You can not get root once on lollipop, other then downgrading back to KitKat.

So, if I understand correctly, after I've obtained root with KitKat, I then flash the zip provided in this thread using a custom recovery such as TWRP, and then I will have a rooted lollipop device?

Are you guys wiping anything prior to flashing the rooted .zip? or just dirty flashing without a wipe?

I flashed dirty kept all my apps and data- my phone is working great. But you may want to go clean to avoid problems
The only issue I've run into is WiFi not staying on through a reboot, neither soft nor full. Only device I have on 5.x.x that does so
Has anyone else gotten a "system uids inconsistent" error? I keep getting that error and a force close on Google music (continuously) even after a full wipe. Any ideas?

Can't stay rooted!! Can anyone help?

Hello, everyone. I'm having an issue on my G800H I can't get figured out. I'm no stranger to rooting, having rooted 15-20 of my own devices, but only 3 were Samsungs (two S5 Sports, and a Galaxy Admire). I've never had this problem with any Android, but I can't keep a Touichwiz OS rooted. I've rooted both 5.1.1 firmwares many times over the past month using both Supersu 2.50 and 2.66. I've never kept root for over 24 hrs. I've thought it may be a Knox issue, but even when I uninstall every Knox related app I can find, I still lose root. The Knox apps I'm aware of and uninstall are:
BBCAgent
Bridge
ELMAgent
KLMSAgent
KnoxFolderContainer
KnoxMigrationAgent
KnoxSetupWizardClient
KNOXStore
SecurityLogAgent
SwitchKnoxl
SwitchKnoxll
Maybe I'm missing a couple. I've tried with both the Russian kernel and with the Tardis Ultimate kernel. I've even tried returning to the stock kernel after rooting just because I wanted to try everything. I've also tried rooting with about 4 different versions of the kingroot apk and even tried the PC version last night...none will Root either 5.1.1 firmware... @sasukesama, which version is working for you? I even tried the new beta apk!! I would use CM or BlissPop, but I can't stand my phone to not be fully functional and I can't stand navbars...but I can't stand losing root even more so I may use 1 of the 2. This morning, I even decided that I'd rather have Root than Lollipop, so I returned to 4.4.2 and rooted with SuperSu 2.4.6...a zip I've used many times on many phones without a problem. I lost root within 3 hours. If anyone has heard of this before or knows a solution, please help me out...I'm losing my patience with this phone, and I don't want to give up and sell it....

Try this:
Flash stock
Flash twrp
Wipe>>advance wipe>>>check the data box
Now flash
steve's kernel
Flash su 2.50
Use the phone for more than 2 days see if it works correctly
If yes try to install one root app (x-plore for example)
Because I think there's an app that is causing this

I was thinking the same thing... So about the past 8 times or so I haven't even set it up. I only install busybox, kernel adiutor, and es file explorer. But I do use an older version of ES... And I do grant it root permissions, I use all the same app versions in my Zmax, too. I'll give it a try without granting root to anything and see what happens.
I'm on CM now btw. Stays rooted and getting used to the navbar.

I've configured everything with the home button
Single=home
Double=back
Long=recent
Way better than nav

I dont think gravitybox gives a triple press option, but you could probably do single press, double press and long press. Since they don't work, I turned off the capacitive backlights and fixed the native brightness slider, and now it may be time to try service on this phone.
I do like that the navbar puts the back and recent buttons back where I'm used to on other devices.

I fixed it by switching to CM. It bugs me bad to be defeated by Android though, so I'm sure to go back and try again...just not right now...lol. I'm enjoying CM. Not even noticing the RAM difference after raising the minfree values, but I haven't tried any serious multitasking yet, I don't think.
BTW, @sasukesama, I've read that this phone has the msm8226 and I've also read it has the msm8228. Well, the Zmax has the 8226 and it gets LTE. A friend who uses international phones said that to enable LTE on them, you have to add some 2 letters to the end of the APN. I will ask him about it later when he wakes up and I'll post back unless you already know about this and it didn't work.
Hahaa! Home button wake has as always bugged me about Samsungs . Since I have a navbar, I disabled the home and both capacitive keys. I'm so happy to be having fun with this phone again! Now it won't waste battery turning on in my back pocket.

Yes, I can try, but building PAC for the Nexus 7 was easy because it was a supported device for that source. I haven't even begun to learn what it would take to port it to an unsupported device. I can't even get a kernel to build without errors with a configuration I know is working.... Yet.
