hello everybody first thread
after flashing multiple ROMs and kernels my phone started to get really warm(noticeable when switching to ART) and the battery was only lasting a couple of hours
last night i saw faux123 post about the fix and thought it should be in a post so it is easier to find

i flashed to uninstall that show-p1984(bricked) has posted http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2524557 then reflashed faux123's kernel and the phone stopped getting warm and the battery is noticeably better!
thank you for reading and hope it has helped

Hello xda!
Lately my phone has been acting real crazy. I've been on Cognition rom for about a month and I never experienced any issue. However, after flashing SpeedMod k12t, my phone kept freezing while on sleep after 1-2 hours of use. I decided to reflash firebird 2 to make sure it wasn't the new kernel, but my phone recently froze in screen off. I am now sure this has nothing to do with a specific kernel. I have been trying to figure out what's wrong with my phone. I am pretty sure it has nothing to do with my modem either, since I have been using jk4 for about a week or three and this issue never came up until now.
All I'm really thinking of would be my setcpu settings. I recently started to use profiles with the following settings :
Screen off : 200-200 performance (now 400)
Charging : 1000
Battery < 101% : 800 - 1000 conservative
Battery < 39% : 400 - 800
I am thinking the screen off settings are causing all of this trouble. I only started using these a day or two before all of this started. Back then I was testing out a couple different kernel (suckerpunch, gb's kernel, firebird, speedmod). I had a rather poor uptime with suckerpunch because it took a while for me to find the correct settings, and when I did, I remember getting a sleep death that I blamed on the kernel because of the history of charge death it had back then.
Also, my original kernel was firebird and my phone was quite stable during the 3 weeks I've used it. I'm leaving the possibility of a bad kernel away because of this.
So here's my question, xda : What's up with my phone? Is reflashing back to stock and back to Cognition the only possible fix for this? Could me flashing kernels without disabling voodoo be the cause of all of this? Could disabling voodoo and reflashing the kernel fix this? Can set cpu be the cause of all of my trouble (i disabled it for now).
Thanks,
I have the same exact problem and it drives me insane. I have no solution for it except if your last 4 IMEI numbers (under your battery) are below 6000. Mine is 8355 so i dont know.
The last four numbers under my battery are 6, 5, 5, and 9. 6559. This only started a day or two ago. I've only had this phone for a month. So far the problem seems gone, but I've noticed my battery went from 67% to 80 after rebooting my phone to check the numbers under my battery. I recently wiped my battery stats though.
I've only had my phone for about a month too, so i don't know any more than you do. The only thing different for me is the shutdowns were already happening, and the the ROM I flashed just increased it.
Yeah, my phone also seems to freeze when alseep but only if its charging. Sometimes if i disconnect it, it will freeze or if i get a phone call while its charging.
My Captivate had sleep death (randomly) and charge death on some ROMs. After flashing several combinations of ROM/kernel/modem, it seems ok now. I think I will keep on finding a better combination.
SetCPU has some issue with OC/UV kernel on my Captivate, so if you have the same problem try to disable SetCPU first and see if the problem goes away.
Please can users post their opinions and recommendations for performance and stability of the Cyanogenmod builds/kernel combinations
nightly #16 + nova v10 kernel - its not the best performance (running lionheart with 300-600Mhz) but it never showed, only somethimes when loading menu
but what i really like is battery usage. i can reach 48 hours as i use it for music playing 2 hours a day, and continous messaging via 3g (its always turned on)
cm7n17 seems to be very stable, using either huexxx or aprold kernel
right now I'm using cm7rc0 and seems to be kinda stable too, but for some unknown reason I have 3 consecutive nights loosing signal at 2am [that's weird cause it's always at 2am] and loose battery about 20% but nothing seems to be draining it I mean cpuspy say "deep sleep" almost 100%
so if this issue continue on, I go back to cm7n17

Hey Guys, I've posted in other conversations about bad battery life with blitzkrieg and it seems pretty split down the middle between those who experience good battery life and those who don't. I did follow the advice and wait several days after I re-flashed blitz and my battery has yet to level out. I keep background data off at night when I go to bed, I went to bed with 93% battery left and woke up 7 hours later with a 23% battery life - while the phone was at rest.
I also have a problem about once every two days my phone will freeze up and restart. When it happens it just gets froze on screen and the whole phone vibrates for 20-30 seconds and then restarts.
Has anyone experiences these problems and found a solution to them? Should I change my settings at all?
I really don't want to get an extended battery but with the life my phone is currently getting I don't see much more of an option.
Thanks guys,
The phone freeze/reboot is a known issue with no known resolution. Before I dropped my last phone it had that problem consistently from stock v4 through every variant of the ota updates, revolt roms, gingervolt roms, kennels, scripts, no scripts, blah blah etc.
Now, however, I picked up a second Revo and have run it through gb and flashed gv 1.3, blitz 2.1 and various scripts and tweaks virtually mirroring my old device. I did that Monday morning and haven't had a single instance yet! These guys here do awesome work..
As for the battery draining, I haven't put my extended battery back on this phone yet because I was curious how the stock would perform with these mods. For the first couple days I was discharging at an even 10% an hour. Yesterday and today its dropped to 7.5%. Why? No damn idea. But I can live with that.
So, nothing terribly helpful here but just a disclaimer that your mileage may vary and a nod to the devs here doing kickass work. Good enough that I actively went looking for another Revo instead of fussing with a second line upgrade. That speaks volumes.
Oh yeah I'm not dissing the devs at all they're great!
The revo is a strange device all the reboots due to GPS and airplane mode I'm sure is a hardware fault because every revo I've had has done it and I'm on my third. I love blitz and can't live without my overclock lol I'm just wondering if there's special settings or CPU governors I'm not using that would help.

I've used CPU Master and am on ROM toolbox now. Can't say I've seen a significant difference between the two as far as battery goes. I've used both ondemand and smoothass, same deal.
I did have some luck limiting reboots on my first by bumping up the min to 768 but haven't needed to bother on this phone so its 2 something. No extra settings or anything. : )
Guess it's just the screwy differences in hardware that make some a better build quality than others. Well I said I wouldn't do it, but I lied...
I'm restoring to my GV 1.3 pre-blitz image as I type this. Guess I like battery over performance, we'll see...I may be back to blitz.
Can somebody explain the difference between ondemand and smoothass. I still don't understand them that well. Thanks!
I didn't read the whole thread but seeing profiles for the kernel helps a lot like when my screen is off my phone is set to minimum on the min and max which sometimes causes lag turning on but once the screen comes on it's up and running fine. At that level if I keep the screen off it takes nearly an hour to drop a percent.

Perhaps this is not the best reference but here is one about charging your Lion battery:
This link won't paste:
[URL="http://dottech.org/tipsntricks/17705/tip-condition-your-new-cell-phones-battery-to-make-it-last-longer-but-be-sure-to-condition-it-properly/[/URL]
It points out two possible issue:
1) over discharge (perhaps our meters account for this,
2) getting the battery hot, my phone does warm up setting on the charger, sounds like the usb port charging might be better for the battery?
Hello everyone!
I've installed few days ago the onecosmic's ROM RC3.1, beatiful, perfect, smooth bla bla.
The problem is: i'm seeing so many post of people saying that with full charge, phone can stay alive for an average of 1 day- 1 day and an half (24-36h) with a normal use.
My phone can last 13-14h staying most of the time in standby and it's the 5th cycle so should be "stabilized" now. 1st cycle was awful, 8h (didn't expect anything else), then things got better but i've reached this cap of 14h.
I've tried Fugu kernel at first but i didn't get much improvement so i switched to paul kernel and changed modem too (jvk->jvt).
Still can't reach the dreamed 24-36h, i mean, i don't care about having 2 days of battery life, i would like to use the phone without having to charge it in the middle of the day.
btw nstools installed and set Deep Idle on, which seems to works just fine for me with the paul kernel.
(can't post outside link -.-)
nstools stats:
h*tp://i44.tinypic.com/6duvzb.png
does these stats means it's working?
i'll post also CPUspy stats:
h*tp://i43.tinypic.com/35052qf.png
is it everything ok here?
On standby there's no battery drain effect now, but when i'm using it, i get 1% down every 1-2 min.
What do you guys suggest? do i need to try other kernels/modems? shoud i try to flash again?
p.s. on 2.3.5 stock i used to have 24-36h but there's no way i'm going back to GB, i love ICS.
I used to have 24h of battery life, but I don't know what happened, after a week or so now my phone is draining 20% every hour, dead by noon...
Tried NStools with undervolt, and it didn't change anything.
It's now an useless piece of junk... this is retarded, either i will try reinstalling ICS or im going back to GB.

maybe your problem is caused by an app, or more than one, which are using push notification, you sould try uninstalling some...
Tried undervolt too, i got maybe an hour more.
Update: i just flashed again with RC3,1 and paul kernel. Situation seems a little better, gonna update again after few battery cycles.
What thing is in the battery status menu?
If it is media server: settings-->apps-->all--> Mediastorage-->force stop(dont wipe data)

sure! with the new paul kernel the battery life is better! amd now i'm trying the last glitch...my phone seems to work better...!i will hope to have also a good battery life without hard drain (with didle support maybe it's possible!)
actually, there was a lot of "Android OS" usage, maybe something went wrong from the beginning, the phone wasn't going to deep sleep state when put on stan-by and use more cpu than necessary when active, that must have been the main issue.
As i said, installed RC3.1 again this morning now everything is gooood
Lots of facebook, whatsapp, camera and 1 call, still have 67%. When put on standby battery almost doens't drop at all (checked on battery graph).
I think it's solved
I've the same problem. my battery life sucks...
Now my question. Where can I find/download the paul kernel? I#ll re-flash it too .
And my second question, do the "devil - der teufel" kernel do a great job too?

dunno about devil kernel, i read that for someone is even better than paul and it solves also "green screen" issue that appear when you lock the phone. I'm happy with this config so i won't touch it until RC4
I confirm that ,now, when my phone is in stand-by, battery usage is almost 0.
btw paul's kernel can be found here:
h*tps://w*w.dropbox.com/s/ts8j2o7wuklq9zg
(sorry about the "*" in the url but it won't let me post link 'til i get 10 post -.-)
is also in the first post of the Team ICSSGS rom btw
I have flashed RC3.1 yesterday, it lasted for 8 hours. I was using it heavily to check all the features, syncing the contacts etc. I have drained the battery fully now. Will charge it upto 100% and see how long it last now with normal usage.

thank u
i'll try it today and pray for a better battery life...
when RC4 is out than i think i will try the devil kernel... but until that i think "paul" will make it ^^
Battery Drain
hello everyone - I have been searching a lot abou this i9000 battery drain on ICS. I am using ICS and Devil karnel and battery lasts for around 11-12hrs. My usage is pretty normal. I dont use phone for most of the time but still it reaches to 12hrs mark. If I check battery stats then Android OS and Display (brightness is very low) are consuming most of the battery.
Please let me know if there are any ROM Tweeks or any other way to increase battery time. Or I will have to go back to GB because I hate charing battery two times a day.
Thank you.
Hi all,
I'm currently running AOKP milestones 6 with the Devil Kernel, and everytime I activate the DeepIdle option with NSTools or with the Devil Kernel manager app I get Bsods.
It's not specific to AOKP rom because I had the same problem when I was running CyanogenMod 7. I tried to use Glitch Kernel or Semaphore Kernel but it's everytime the same thing : I get one Bsod after a few hours, and after they come every 10min or so. If I pull off the battery or keep pressing the power button the phone reboots normally but until I deactivate the Idle option I have always this same problem.
I tried using smartass V2 governor or modifying the voltages, doing fresh installs but I can't solve this problem. I also used the BT killer script to see if it changes anything but it didn't solve my problem.
Could it be my phone or am I doing something wrong?
I'd say its probably just the DeepIdle. I do remember reading that DeepIdle support is kinda... weird. In my own experience I've had trouble getting it to work. Had SoD's only a couple of times but actual DeepIdle state won't be used much. It has improved a lot from the Cyanogenmod7 days though.
Is the phone very hot on such an event?
I'd say just don't use DeepIdle if you've had such a long history of problems with it.
I put devil Idle option permanent and I didn't have Sods since this morning, maybe you're right and the Deep idle doesn't work. It's quite sad because it seemed awesome on the paper
And about your question the phone doesn't get hot when this happens, it just stop responding but I have no memories that this happened when I was using the phone only when the screen was off. I'm not sure if it's important but it happened when the phone wasn't used for some minutes or if quickly press power button multiple times.
How did you managed to get it working?
