Is there a method that survive OTA update from 4.2 to 4.4? I've SuperSU Pro has a survival mode and worked on the Samsung Galaxy S4 update from 4.2 to 4.3. Would that work on Moto X?
Thanks

Hi all,
I have a few questions that burn me. Just received the OTA notification that .569 is available (304.4 MB)
I am running .67 with stock recovery, root and phone encryption. Will those be preserved if i OTA update ?

AFAIK root is lost and recovery is rewritten. I don't use phone encryption but I guess it is ok (or it would be stupid of Sony).
My experience has always been that OTA updates break root, and most of the time you wont be able to get it back until there is an exploit for the new firmware
4.3 OTA update will take away root and you will be unable to root under 4.3 directly.
You have to use the root methods shown as below(root under 4.2-flash another recovery-flash pre-root 4.3).

OTA left my root as it is. Check my post, how I did it:

This was the first OTA that broke my root, even with supersu in survival mode.
I updated ota from 4.2 to 4.3 and kept root.

I have a Nexus 7 (2013) running Kit Kat (4.4.4) and recently got the the OTA update to 5.0.1, but haven't installed it yet. I rooted it using the WugFresh Nexus Root Toolkit sometime some the last OTA update.
So how do I update to Lollipop? Do I need to unroot with the toolkit first? Will I need to backup my apps first and restore after the update?
Also, for some unknown reason, I no longer have the OTA update although I was notified that it had been downloaded. Odd! Guess I'll have to manually download it and side load it.
Thanks in advance...

Hi
Is it good to root 5.0? or shall I wait to 5.1?
what will happen if I rooted on Lollipop 5.0 the upgraded to 5.1 using OTA update? will it harm my device?
Is there a trusted/tested root for Moto X 2014 Lollipop 5.0?
If you are rooted you will need to do a clean install of 5.0 before accepting an OTA to 5.1 or the OTA will fail. The way I use to root is to flash a custom recovery and then flash SuperSU.

what do you mean by "good"? in what aspects? the answer will depend on how you want to use after root features.
AFAIK, you have to stock recovery installed before getting any OTA, they wont even downloaded if you have a custom recovery, so you have to use fastboot to install stock "recovery.img" before getting OTA.
I used CF-Auto root method, its safe and easy, but beware, you have to unlock bootloader first.

I hope it helped.
Well, I checked to see if at&t had 5.0 available before noticing that 4.4.4 has a confirmed process for rooting now. It sounds like it's possible to keep root while updating from 4.4.4 to 5.0. So, I'd like to do the 4.4.4 root process before updating. The only issue is at&t doesn't seem to allow you to cancel the update process once started. What are my options for canceling the update / rooting 4.4.4, and updating the OS through other means?

It sounds to me that all u did was download the update, because when it installs the phone will shutoff. So just downloading it technically has no effect on your phone. So if ur check onn att galaxy s5 xda u should be able to find what zips u need and how the process works. Muniz ri is the op of the post to root on 4.4.4. god luck
I've got a rooted M8 with twrp, but now I'm getting notifications for an OTA update to marshmallow. Is there a way to stop the constant update notifications? Would flashing the latest SuperSU (with MM) be the only option?
