[Q] got a dead phone after Cognition upgrade

i just upgrade my 2.1 into Cognition using rom manger
after installing i got a black screen with a blue text writing "NOW REBOOT"
nothing happened so i pushed the power button,since then nothing happened.
the phone dont response to nothing the screen is black like the phone is off.
i tried to go into download mode in order to use "one click odin" but nothing happens,the odin dont recognize the device and i get now picture while i am trying to get into the mode.
when i just got the phone i couldnt get into the recovery mode with the combination keys.seems like my phone dont response to any key combination.
and the biggest problem that i live in Israel and i dont have the option to replace it or something like that.
please,if can some1 root me what to do.

so i checked around here and i saw that device that cannot enter downloadmode using combination keys should use homemade 301k usb cable..
i checked the guide how to make 1 but it seems like very complicated action
can i buy it somewhere?
does any 1 want to make me 1 and i will pay him via paypal?

so i didnt wait enough and restart by pressing the power button.now i stock with a dead phone.
i cant use adb shell beacuse my computer dont recognize the phone nothing happens when i plug the usb.

yeah dude it looks that way maybe you should look around on how to unbrick i really dont know im kinda new to this all i do is read have much as i can on here and try not to mess mty phone up so far ive been doing a good job

got the same issue .. and the problem is that it's not mine .. it's my friend's phone :'(

I wish I was qualified to help you. There are several seperate ways to induce your phone into download mode with Odin and.revert back to stock. If I am reading the post here correct your phones do not even power on.
People have recovered from this state using Odin. I have never had to so I am not able to spell out the steps.

yeah .. all you have to do is pull out your battery and reinsert it then hold both of the vol buttons and plug the usb cable ..
or the other combinations ... I tried all of those .. but nothing at all .. the phone is just a rock !

2 other small things to try
1 make sure USB is in rear port
2 I believe some have had success by right clicking Odin then selecting run as administrator. Then follow steps

My phone is also stuck in this state (i.e. the phone won't turn on or respond to button presses or inserting usb cords). I'm not sure if Odin can fix that.

To all with this issue. Try Odin. Make sure you right click Odin and make administrator. Follow steps for Odin. It has worked for others. Make sure you are using the rear USB port. I may have this sequence off so search and make sure.it is right. Open Odin pull battery and sim put battery back in. Hold volume up and down. Plug in USB.

I had the same issue. Use odin. Hold both volume keys down and plug in the usb to your phone. You may have to hold it longer than normal. Sometimes the download screen does come on but odin will recognize it. Restore it and you should be okay.

I tried that already. The computer don't even recognize if there's any device plugged into it. I guess it has to be sent to Samsung

Mine was dead like yours with the black screen. My computer wouldnt recognize it. They have a post in general or Q&A where someone had the same issue as yours. I think is titled "Help". I was thinking the same thing that I would have to sent it in but it worked.

Procedure:
1. Remove the battery, external SD card and SIM card.
2. Wait 10 seconds.
3. Open odin3
4. Connect usb cable.
5. Hold volume up + volume down + Power.
6. Insert battery.
7. Release POWER BUTTON ONLY.

Vol up down and power? i would say just vol up and down (for download mode )

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S - can't turn on

i've tried to fix the dowload mode via the link

but i accidently plugged out the usb cabel out of my PC.
Now i can turn on my phone but I can't do anything,
there's just an icon that my phone isn't connected to the PC,

even the recovery mode doesn't work
the icon i described just flashes while i'm holding the buttons, nothing else happens...

Samsung Captivate Galaxy S

Is the icon you have a triangle with an android Guy and a shovel? If so try remove battery remove sim.remove SD. Insert bettery and go back into download mode and re odin..what phone also

If the icon is the one connexion posted, then it should be fixed if you build a jig. A jig is essentially 300k worth of resistors. You can research more on this subforum to find out more information about it

I had that icon after a soft brick trying to install GB, and my phone was actually in download mode. I opened Odin one click, plugged it in, and was able to flash back to stock. Then I got cocky and tried to install GB again, same symbol, different results. I was not able to save my phone until my jig arrived.
Moral of the story: phone!computer can sometimes be download mode, but not always, and keep a jig on hand just in case.

I had that when trying to install GB the first time as well. Have you tried putting the phone into download mode via vol down/pwr?
If that doesnt work try holding vol up/vol down and plugging in the usb cable. While doing both the above mentioned and this make sure the phone is powered off first. Perform battery pull
If you can get it into download mode, use odin to flash back to stock jf6 and then retry. Best use would be odin oneclick search for it, its somewhere in here

if key combo does not work for you, the jig will help then ... try to build one yourself, or buy it on ebay (search for "micro usb jig").

Help...Cant get phone into download mode.

Which Odin one click ? And what were you running before you did the one click?

Use a jig for dl mode.

You tried Vol Down-Power and then after the splash screen releasing the power button and continuing to hold Vol Down.
Does your phone fully boot? If it does and you have adb on your computer. Turn on USB debugging, connect the phone to your computer via USB, and then use the command 'adb reboot download' without the '

Its risky but IF YOU ARE ON 2.1 YOU CAN FLASH THE 3 BUTTON FIX, or flash i897 gingerbread bootloaders, but DO NOT FLASH THE 3 BUTTON FIX AFTER FLASHING THE GINGERBREAD BOOTLOADERS OR YOU WILL BE HARD BRICKED YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!!!

I would recommend i897 GB bootloaders instead of the 3 button fix. It still fixes the button problem, but never, never, never flash the 3 button fix after flashing GB bootloaders. You have been warned again.

ok finally got into dl mode but when i plugged phone up to usb it went to the phone ! computer screen what do I do.Thanks in advance..

It should. Also, hold volume up + down, then plug in USB should also. Before you try that, restart your computer and pull the battery on the phone for a couple minutes before trying again. Have Odin open before you plug in the phone. Make sure you are using a pry on the back of the computer ( #1 on a laptop).

No. I used a jig last time it happened to me. They only cost about $10.

I had this a cpl of times, u'll have to reinstall drivers (uninstall first) ,or I use kies mini to reinstall drivers all the time when the pc won't recognize it (this usually happens after switching bootloaders), reboot ur pc and after that ur pc should pick it up (found new hardware). Once the drivers are loaded head back to odin and this time ur com port should light up.

Try this method for download mode... It's worked on every build captivate I've tried, even the fabled 1008 build.
1. Turn off phone, pull battery, sim card, sd card
2. Open ODIN (optional)
3. Plug in USB, then hold both volume buttons (NOT power button)
4. Re-insert battery while still holding volume buttons.
Phone should instantly boot into download mode

[Q] Phone is dead

Hey! I have a major issue
Today I decided that I am going to change my ROM from darky's to CM9.All went well until I typed the pin of my SIM and just before I was on mobile's desktop CM9 told me I have to reset.I did and got into boot-loop.
Turned on my Odin to get stock rom on and try everything again , went to download mode but after a few seconds of pressing start Odin wrote FAIL. Since then my phone is dead,can't get into download mode,can't turn it on,doesn't charge. I only hear the 'bleep' sound (the sound when the usb has succesfully been plugged in) when I hold vol+ and vol- and plug usb at the same time but thats it.
What can I do? :crying:

Try a usb jig.

Before buying a JIG, try this:
1. remove battery
2. connect phone to computer via usb (without battery)
3. then press 3-button combo for download mode
4. while pressing these 3 buttons (phone is still connected to pc) put back your battery (for example using your nose )
Worked for me already a few times! If it won't work for the first time, try again and again..

The first thing to do is charge your phone just in case you have been victim of a sudden os battery drain

Now I know why it all went wrong.I accidently downloaded cm9 for galaxy S2 and put it on my phone. But could still get into download mode but it's dead since Odin failed.
Ajoslaf I tried that and all I got was the sound of the usb being plugged in,nothing else.Tried filling up the battery and got the same.
Now I can try with usb jig,but doesn't that only work in download mode?

My samsung galaxy mini has got into dead mode,because I installed a custom rom from this link . My phone is not turning ON. Even when I'm charging my phone,it is not showing the charging icon and also when I connected it to PC via USB,it is not showing the battery icon. My phone was totally got dead.So,now I jus want to go to download mode,How can I do this.Please help me.....I heard that we can do this by using JTAG blah blah, I couldnt understand ,So give me the clear (procedure)explanation and required files that how can i go to download mode.

You have the right area so don't worry about that.
It looks like your phone is done for good, but let's try to salvage it. Follow the steps carefully to avoid messing it up even further.
1.Make sure your battery is charged. Use an universal charger or something similar to charge it if not.
2.Unplug your phone from your USB cable or charger.
3.Put the battery back inside but do not power it up yet.
4.Hold the VOLUME DOWN button and the HOME button. While holding both of them, press and hold the POWER button. You should be prompted with a DOWNLOADING message. If nothing shows, then it's dead.
5.If you are shown the message, then you can still make it work. Make sure you have all your USB Drivers installed. After that download ODIN.
6.Open ODIN and plug in your phone while it is still in DOWNLOAD mode.
7.If it recognizes it, follow the steps here and you should be done.

As you mentioned in the 4th point, I've done what u suggested me to do by pressing the keys VOLUME DOWN,HOME,and POWER keys,but my phone is not switching into download mode....It is Dead mate..... Please help me

There is not much left to do. If there is a method of fixing this type of hard brick, the chances are very slim. You're better off sending the phone to Samsung Care.

Google and YouTube search for USB JIG. that might help you. It works on dead phones.

try a stock gingerbread by odin
and if it stuck at Samsung image go to recovery mod and clear data and cashe

Connection: 0 is drivers or kies problem. Uninstall all the Samsung USB drivers and re install them and also force stop or close kies running in background.

Hmm
